The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“How can you be free from this one room? You aren’t a prisoner, but, Do you decide on a whim, where to be? Happiness from others is a fine gift, but true happiness is from within,”
She listened to his words; there was something utterly mesmerizing in the way he talked, and the way his finger traveled along her skin. She felt like a snake watching the charmer, unable to hear the words, but captured by the movements.
>>“ Ah, physical love is glorious. Loved can be called forth, but the best kind is given freely, And while I assure you no man can lay eyes on you and not want to give his love freely, Is it true love? Love that warms you on cold nights alone? Is it the kind that your heart aches for when you have tasted it and it is gone? Is it the kind that you fall asleep and wake to?”
She had to lick her lips first, to be able to answer. There were so many questions, even if he did not expect an answer to all of them. She shivered as his hands and.... tail?... traveled along her skin.
"Mortals are not capable of loving a goddess" she answered, still staring into his eyes "They love, and then they are set free, to live the life they are destined to live. No lover can be equal to a devi, for their love is not divine."
Her eyes finally left his, traveling to his hands and tail.
"If you were mortal, Kamadeva, I would have your hands for this."

>> ”Oh? Is it forbidden for a goddess to love?”
She could tell he did not approve of what she said. No matter how he tried his best to hide it, the Goddess had met enough people to know. Especially in this country, where her words so often caused confusion and controversy. The ruby red lips curled into a smile.
"A goddess is allowed to love whoever she chooses to love" she told him; it was not his fault he was not educated in these matters in such a godless country "But love has nothing to do with marriage. It is a desire of the heart and the soul. Marriage is a lasting arragement between two people."
At least it was where he came from. This man probably had other ideas. She was intrigued to hear them.

She had six weapons and seven arms. She had a reason for that. Several reasons, actually. One being that she did not want to drop a weapon for the opponent's (who are we kidding, they were the enemy) advantage if she needed to use a hand. Another was that she needed a free hand to juggle. She used to have eight. Now the lowest arm on her left was just a stump. If saved her life, however. Asymetry was still better than death.
Two of the men stalked towards her. She was aware that the other two would try to go around. Let them try. Makes for a better show.
Weapons slid from hand to hand and her seven arms twirled around with a speed that made them look like a blur. A halo. A halo made of the sharp glint of steel and the dull gloom of jewelry.
Knives? She had a knife. Hammers? She had a hammer. She also had a Japanese sword, an axe, brass knuckes with nails, and a spiked dog chain.

>>"Well, I guess plenty of mutants end up with other mutants, but it's mainly because it's easier to be with someone who understands you. It isn't a law though. There are some mutants who date humans, too. It all comes down to who you fall in love with."
He was obviously not comfortable with the question. The Goddess wondered why. It was a simple question of culture, and nothing to be embarrassed about. She wondered if it was because of how mutants were treated in this country. Abuse tended to make people shy.
"Love?" she arched a perfect eyebrow at the painter "Oh. People here marry for love? How... adorable."

>>"Sad to say, but not everyone who is gifted has a blessing that is so recognizably divine. Even my girlfriend catches so much hate, and she's a police officer."
Girlfriend? That was how Americans referred to their lovers, she already knew that. So, the woman of his choice was a police officer. How interesting. Not only that, but she, just like the painter, was also one of those mutants. That peaked the goddess' interest.
"So, do mutant people here usually choose other mutants as partners?" it only stood to sense that they would; after all, no one could be in a relationship where two people were not on the same power level. "Is that a law, or a tradition?"

>> “I have chosen this vessel for my own, he was inclined to pure and open handed love from the moment I found him, so I made him mine. I know, I know, it isn’t typical to take an avatar in such a way, but they are building them builder and better these days and childhood is such a bother.”
The Goddess arched an eyebrow. Did Kamadeva just take over a mortal's body as a vessel? She, as someone who had been born a goddess, had never contemplated that option before, or known any gods made flesh who had appeared that way. She knew the old stories though, and that was good enough.
He proceeded to answer her question.
>>”What else, but you my lady? You are here in this land sitting on your throne, like a well guarded secret, are you happy? In love? Free? I have come to ensure you have these things.”
That was a very poetic question... and at the same time, very confusing. Happy? How could she not be happy?
"How can I not be free? I am the All-Goddess. No one can keep me prisoner." she pointed out, looking at him, searching to see what he meant "And how can I not be happy, with so many people worshipping the Goddess in me?... And how could I be without love, if I can have as many lovers as I wish for?"
>>"Not these powers specifically, but there are teachers who can create ice, and students who can do everything from summon insects to move metal."
Well well. Americans, at least in New York, had their own little pantheon. Mahadevi did not understand how people so gifted and powerful could be threatened into hiding away in a school. Strange.
>>"If we get you clearance, we might be able to arrange a visit, if it would interest your holiness."
Clearance? For a goddess?...
"I would very much like that." she agreed, letting one more subject slide "I do not see why these mutants would have to hide from people. They have so much to give to the world, don't they? When I was born, no one thought of fearing me. They knew I was a goddess made flesh. From the arms."
The Goddess watched in fascination as the shadow crept towards her, and shivered a bit at the touch. What an amazing, beautiful power. Why would people fear that?
>>"I can manipulate and give my shadow shape. It's a talent that's certainly proved useful in life."
"It is fascinating." she said, for once with complete honesty in her voice "All the people in your school are gifted with these powers?"
Because if they were, she wanted to visit that place. They might not be divine like she was, but they most certainly were blessed by the divine. That was a rare thing, especially in America.
He laughed, and she could tell it was not a happy laugh. She almost decided it was disrespectful, but she was too much interested in what he had to say.
>>"Having power doesn't exactly mean you'll be respected in New York. Here, it usually means people will fear you and hate you."
Fear and hate? Such strong emotions, and so much misplaced. Why would people hate someone blessed by the gods with something that by nature should not be possible? Was it just the Americans? Was she missing something?
>>"My fair goddess, I am one of those people."
That explained a lot. Mahadevi tilted her head, looking at him again. He did not show signs of any power.
"That... is interesting. So what power have you been blessed with?"
>>"It is a place where mutants can seek refuge and go to school and even learn how to control their powers. There are more people with unique abilities in New York than you'd think."
Again. Interesting.
"Why would they need to seek refuge?" she asked, this time with sincere curiosity in her voice. This world was all new for her, and sometimes hard to understand, but she did know that in many ways it was the polar opposite from her beloved India.
"Don't people respect them for the gifts they have?..."
It just sounded strange. She did not know many people with special gifts, and certainly only a few with divine powers like herself, but she was sure they would be feared and respected in India.
He sounded honest. Then again, most men did, especially the ones that worshipped her. But coming from an artist, it still made the goddess' lips curl into a small smile.
>>"I'm not much of a film buff, sad to say. I have no doubts you are magnificent, Mahadevi."
"I don't expect you to compliment me if you have not seen the thing you are complimenting" she waved one hand before she returned it to its carefully designed position. She could tell from his glances that he was working on her image now, so she remained still.
"Tell me about your art. Is this what you do for a living?"
There was a low murmur in the restaurant as the door opened and the Goddess walked in. She was used to the looks of Americans by now; even at highly respected establishments like this one, there were always people who blatantly stared and showed no signs of respect for the divine.
Mahadevi swept into the restaurant; she was not wearing her full divine regalia, she was out to have lunch with a lady of high birth, after all, there was no need to dress for worship. She was wearing a dress made of blue silk embroidered with silver and the silver-and-sapphire jewelry that went with it; simple yet elegant. Not to mention expensive.
She was escorted to the table and then her entourage left her alone with the young lady she was supposed to have lunch and a polite conversation with. Mahadevi looked at the Lady and nodded to her in greeting, offering one of her hands for a handshake.
