The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“Oh Sweet Mahadevi, I do not know that the world will ever be ready to behold you beauty. However It will certainly be better for it.”
Mahadevi granted him a brilliant smile as he led her to the car. It was an elegant, really elegant car, fit for a god and a goddess, and she smiled again, enjoying the feeling of acceleration as they pulled out onto the road. She wondered where he was taking her; she also knew, just like he did, that there was no way anyone could follow them there. They were on their own.
"Gorgeus" she said when they saw the mountains "They remind me of my home, yet they are so different. Kamadeva, where are you taking me? Or is it going to be a surprise?"

>>"Yeah, I'm among those who have special powers... but mine is anything but a gift. Curse would be a better term. Sure, it's the reason why my art is so unique but it's still a curse."
Mahadevi watched in confusion and fascination as the malachite came to life. It was, once again, quite the spectacle to see someone's gift at work, but she was distracted by wodnering why he would see it as a curse instead. She saw nothing that would have been a curse, not by the measure of the Hindu gods anyway. Maybe American gods were just not that creative.
>>"Anything you need to do before we begin? This will take at least an hour, maybe two."
"Time does not matter to the divine" she smiled a bit, dropping her outer garments until she was standing in front of him in a long flowing skirt hanging low around her hips, and strips of silk wrapped around her chest. She had never been ashamed of her body. Also, she kept the jewelry on.
"I wish that you explain to me your curse, if it does not hinder you in making your art" she announced, gracefully lifting her arms in a sign of blessing.

>>"Okay then, but I have several different types of clay. Sometimes the most expensive isn't the best. Let me show you four different types of clay. We'll begin as soon as you decide on a type of clay. Also, do you want me to paint if afterwards so it will look exactly like you?"
"I trust your judgement on your art" the Goddess allowed as she looked at the tyes of clay, her gaze naturally falling onto the golden one like a magpie's. Gold had always been the symbol of divinity and nobility. She wondered what kind of clay that was, and how a humble artist like this one could get his hands on such exquisite materials.
>>"We'll do it right here since this is the most open spot of the shop I have. I'm ready when you are."
She looked up when the artist spoke, and golden clay instantly went forgotten as she saw his eyes glow.
"You are one of those people gifted with special powers, aren't you?" she asked curiously. The old servant who had been sitting in the corner for a while now looked up anxiously, but didn't make a move. "Is that why your art is so unique?"

Mahadevi appeared from behind flowing curtains and graces Kamadeva with a brilliant smile.
"I am ready for the world to see me like this" she announced, offering one hand to him "Lead the way."
He was her leader into this new and fascinating world mortals inhabited. She was not sure what to expect, but she felt safe by the side of her red skinned lover. Adrash looked more than nervous at her leaving even though he knew better than to question her decisions. She was almost sure he was going to send guards after them, she just hoped he would be tactful enough to keep them hidden. Illusion was everything.
Mahadevi looked at herself in the mirror and admired the simplicity of her attire. She was wearing a turquoise colored sari with silver linings, and silver bracelets on her wrists, but the usual glamour and grandeur of her divine presence was left in the wardrobe and the jewelry box. Her hair was let down; it was symbolic, the way Kamadeva said, but it framed her face nicely.
It was time to leave her suite behind, together with her guards and her servants, and go out into the world, accompanied by no one but the Deva of Love. It was going to be an adventure. Maybe she could have someone write a song about it later...
>> "Hm... I guess I could do it and I can make it life size too, but I must beg you not to tell anyone how I made the statue."
The Goddess was intrigued now. There was a secret about this place, rather, a secret about the artist, and the paper on the counter, and the lifelike statues, and she was determined to find out what the secret was. She deserved to know. And if he did really well with the sculpture, she might honor his request and keep his secret too.
>>"Hm, I'm sure I have a book on how they make divine statues over in India. Give me a second... Ah! Found it!... Ow. Why is it I always become a klutz in front of customers?"
She allowed him time to rummage around under the counter; a slight nod of her head instructed the old servant to close the door of the shop and turn the OPEN sign. Now they had all the time in the world. The Goddess studied the face of the mysterious artist as he looked through the book.
>> "Uh... oh dear. I think I might have to stray a little from normal India artwork. Uh... every single statue of people in this book are a bit... what would be an appropriate word... exposed. Um... how close to traditional Indian artwork do you want this to be?"
"Not at all" she answered with a small, amused smile "I want it to be your very best, something unique that has not been done before. Do not worry about clothing though. There is no reason to hide perfection from the eyes of the devoted."

>>"Yes... I made it... What happen to my manners? My sincere apologies for my rudeness! It's not everyday that a goddess enters my humble pottery shop. Your presence here shocked me to the point that my mind was no longer functioning. I'm Alexander Davis."
The man called Alexander finally seemed to have found his manners. Mahadevi forgave him with a graceful nod. It was only human to forget about manners in the presence of a goddess, and that was even more true for men, naturally weak in the presence of the feminine. Mahadevi glanced at the paper curiously just before he turned it away.
>>"And yes, I did make that statue that was just taken out of here. Do you have any questions about it? I'll be happy to answer them."
"Do you work after models?" the Goddess wanted to know with mild curiosity "There are plenty of statues sculpted after me in shrines all over India, but here, I have none. I wish to commission a talented artist to create one for me. I wish it to be something special, to capture the attention of even those who do not believe in the divine."

>>"Excuse me?... You guys are serious, aren't you?"
The graceful form standing in the doorway, one toe lightly touching the floor inside, looked at the man with a questioning look. The old servant cleared his throat and whispered something in Hindi.
"I'm sorry, your holiness. I apologize for the manners of this man."
Mahadevi acknowledged the whisper with a nod, and then stepped inside, looking around with mild curiosity.
"The statue" she said in her accented yet smooth English "the statue of a woman we just saw. Was that your work?"

A Goddess indeed. The mere statue of one, lifeless and too Western for her taste, still, brilliant in execution. Mahadevi admired the statue as it was loaded onto the truck.
Walking the City had been a new fancy of hers. Of course she would not do it completely alone, but she did not require another god's company either. For now, she only had four bodyguards with her, the best of the best, and her trusted old servant, who, once the entrance was free, walked up to the door of the shop and opened it, announcing her arrival.
"Her divine holyness the All-Goddess of India, Mahadevi, the Splendid, Graceful and Eternal in her immaculate person has decided to grace this place with her presence today. All bow in greeting of her divine presence, and praise her shining beauty!"

>>“Their reactions to people they consider to be of higher status then them can take some getting used to but all you have to do is remember that they don’t have royalty and such in this country. The idea is both foreign and interesting to them. And I prefer to meet in public when it comes to things involving good press. I work rather hard to keep my image up so I may have the opportunities to do good work if I can.”
That was quite the fascinating idea. Relying on the eyes and ears of obnoxius little people to be able to do good? The lack of royalty really did damage to the soul of the people. Mahadevi felt worried for them for a fleeting split second.
>>“What can I get you to drink miss?”
She ordered herself a cocktail; she knew her choice, just like everything else about the meeting, would be analyzed later, so she made sure to make a show of it. When the waitress left, she turned back to Kate.
"So, what good do you expect to do with the help of their attention?" she was honestly curious.

>>“Sweet Mahadevi, I assure you, I would not leave your side, and there is no one that would survive the foolishness in attempting to harm you. There is something to be said for the protection love can offer... The man that came toward you with any ill intent would meet the same fate.”
The display of power was quite impressive. So much, in fact, that the Goddess considered postponing the conversation a little bit longer while she enjoyed Kamadeva's company a little bit longer...
>>“Beyond that promise I assure you the world is not so treacherous as you may have been lead to believe. I have walked this realm and saw it sights, while chaotic it is largely invigorating. Why should you in your divinity not walk where ever you so please? Watch the mortals seizing the most life has to offer is quite entertaining. Showing them how to seize it can be better. Worry not sacred Devi, I would never lead you astray. Or anywhere if the thought does not please you.”
He had a way with words too. Kamadeva was truly a divinity with many gifts and blessings.
"No, it..." she looked at him for a few moments, hesitant yet intrigued "No, it quite pleases me. I will take that journey with you, Kamadeva. I am not afraid with you by my side... although I do not know what to expect from this strange place, and these strange people. But it would be foolish to worry for two gods when they walk the streets. You are right. We shall go."
Her opinion on love and marriage seemed to please the painter. That amused the Goddess to the extent of making her smile. Mortals could be so prideful sometimes, they could have put the gods to shame.
>>”Would you like to see how it came out, your holiness?”
"Indeed" she nodded, rising from her pillows and walking over to look at the canvas. She hoped the painter did a good job. For his own sake.
>>“It is very nice to meet you Mahadevi. Won’t you have a seat.”
The young woman's hand was warm to the touch, and Mahadevi let go after a short handshake, and took her seat across the table from Lady Finch-Hatton. People murmured, people watched, paparazzi snapped pictures from outside the window. Mahadevi ignored all of that.
"I assume you must be quite used to the attention" she noted to the English lady politely "People in this country can be quite obnoxious. Still, they insisted on us meeting in public, to give them something to talk about."
The woman did not answer. She did not leave either. The Goddess found that strange. Did she not understand what she was saying to her? Americans could be strange sometimes...
An even stranger silence stretched across the room. Almost unnatural. Mahadevi shifted in her seat, looking at the woman from the mirror, not giving her the satisfaction of turning around.
Not until she saw the knife.
The Goddess opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. The strange woman was using magic. Or some ability that she could not even name.
Eight hands moved at once, reaching behind her to block the stab of the knife and the Goddess finally spun around in her seat, trying to push and pull the woman off balance. She had not been trained in fighting. But against one woman, two hands, and one knife, the eight arms of the Goddess were definitely an advantage.
