The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tonight was a very good night. Skydancer could feel it in her skin, there was just something exceptional about that night. It didn't hurt that it was clear and warm out, with the moon nearly full in the sky but that wasn't enough to explain her current feelings of good will. Perhaps it had to do with the workout she had engaged in earlier, finally learning a difficult flip that she had been trying to master for more than a week now. There was just something in the air, something special that hadn't been there in a very long time.
Skydancer had experienced quite a few ups and downs since coming to the city. With the help of the kindness shown to her by those who ran The Mansion, she had managed to pull herself up and out of the destitute poverty of living on the streets. She had managed to get over the fact that her previous Olympic dreams were dead and dust and discovered new dreams of learning the skills that would allow her to join the circus as an acrobat and as the days ticked on and one, that particular dream became ever closer. Now, the dark moments of her past seemed to be fading to distant memories as her new life took route in her mind and she finally began to realize that she was capable of happiness again.
Skydancer didn't have any particular goals that night, except to enjoy the night time air and be content in the direction her life had somehow managed to go. As per usual, she travelled by rooftop in a combination of jumping and swinging, though for once she wasn't training and instead opted for a more leisurely pace. Stopping on a small three story apartment building just across from a gas station, she considered jumping down and grabbing herself something to drink. The question was, did she really want to risk the chance of some ignorant human in the gas station ruining her nearly perfect night?

Once again I appear to be a bit short on active threads at the moment. Thus, instead of creating a new thread sifting for threads, I figured I'd just bump this one. Anyone interested?

With stars momentarily dancing in front of her eyes, at that moment Skydancer would not have been ashamed to admit that she was genuinely afraid. She had gotten into fights before and even been kidnapped, but there was something about being in the centre of an angry mob who wanted to maim or kill her that was terrifying in a way that few other things were. Taking care of herself against a person or even a few people was something she felt confident she was proficient enough to do, but what did you do when there were dozens of people at all sides wanting to do you bodily harm? That was a whole different sort of problem.
“Ohmygod! Are you…?”
Skydancer had enough wits about her that she was able to nod and allow herself to be pulled along. A bruise would heal but if allowed herself to get dragged into that mob, she knew they would do things to her that wouldn't have a chance of healing. An image flashed before her eyes of being literally torn limb from limb and she shuddered, reaffirming her intent not to get caught.
"Not worth it," Skydancer agreed. By now, despite her high level of physical fitness, she was panting from both fear and exertion. Something else flew past her head, though she wasn't able to catch exactly what. They couldn't' keep up the pace, she knew that, and the moment they faltered was the moment the hungry mob would devour them alive.
"We need to go high, where they can't." It was easier said than done, running for her life and keeping an eye out for an accessible rooftop but the ability to do so might just be the difference between life and death or at least bodily well being and grave bodily harm.

Allison taking the ink back into her skin was fascinating in a creepy sort of way. Then again, Skydancer knew her own power could be considered a bit on the creepy side as well, so who was she to judge? Not that creepy was necessarily a bad thing; after all, sometimes simply creeping out a potential enemy was enough to prevent things from degenerating into actual violence.
Despite the words of contrition and the repeated statements that the little gang was oh so sorry, Skydancer couldn't quite squash the feeling of wanting to go and physically show them the error of their discriminatory actions. Instead, knowing that it really wouldn't' accomplish anything, she had to satisfy herself with glowering in their general directions.
"You all are very lucky that I'm the type to think before I act," Skydancer spoke in a low growl. OK, so maybe a little threatening speech might be added to her death glares, but no one could begrudge her that could they? It wasn't like she was actually going to do anything regretful. Besides, her words were true. There were some mutants who wouldn't care how sorry they were, they'd just start maiming and killing and maybe some of them even deserved it. But she wasn't that sort.
Skydancer half turned from the group of humans, preparing to take her leave of the situation. She managed to keep them in her peripheral vision, just in case they should try something stupid one more time, though she thought by now they might have a little more sense than that. Her tubes she kept in a loose circle around herself.

I especially like the idea of acid rainstorms. That could make the quest for survival even more desperate and make it imperative to actually have proper shelter. I'm imagining some of the more poorly constructed houses and other buildings slowly getting dissolved by the acid rain with holes in the roofs and walls of some buildings out outright inoperative roofs of others. Depending on the severity, it could also make other necessities of living more scarce as things stored within many of the poorer houses and other buildings would never survive.

"I would love to come alone," Skydancer agreed with a friendly smile. She didn't have much of an idea what to expect of The Danger room but even if it didn't turn out to live up to its name, it was likely to be an interesting experience. Perhaps she should have asked Koga for more information about the place.
"So, what's your power, if you don't mind my asking?" There didn't appear to be any visual clues that Skydancer could pick out from just looking at him but she had learned that there often weren't any. For that matter, her own visible mutations didn't exactly give much of a clue about what her own powers were.
"I'm Skydancer." Skydancer extended her hand in case Sam wanted to shake it. Respect was one of the things she had been taught growing up and it was something that stayed with her quite strongly over the years. With some people, it went a surprisingly long way. "Nice to meet you Sam."

Allison's attempts to garner peace, it seemed, were not quite so successful as they first appeared to be. Skydancer couldn't help but cringe as the woman's friendly discussion took on a darker turn as the others realized that she was also a mutant. It took more willpower than it probably should have to keep herself where she was and not simply rush over there and start showing people exactly why it was a bad idea to hold such blind hatred towards mutants. She knew, however, that it wouldn't do any good. Reacting to violence in self defence was one thing, but instigating violence was quite another and would only make things worse.
It was when one of the group dared to lay a hand on Allison that Skydancer got truly angry. She got half way to the group before Allison turned her back and started walking in the opposite direction. It wasn't, she knew, the smartest thing to do in the face of potentially dangerous enemies, but not everyone had experience in those sorts of combats. She herself was only just learning and half of that learning was occurring in real life combat situations, which probably wasn't ideal.
Kitra, it seemed, had similar thoughts and for now Skydancer was content to be her backup. Two tubes burst from her chest and she held them, tips out offensively towards the group, while standing just behind Kitra. She was impressed by the paper whip, though now wasn't quite the time to state as much. "She's the nice one," Skydancer nodded towards the paper whip wielding mutant. "I'm not. So you can either listen to her or you can meet my tubes and I'm pretty sure none of you will like them." She smiled, allowing the razor sharp tips of her tubes speak for themselves.
No one made any immediate attempts to challenge her words, so Skydancer half turned back to Allison. "You all right?" She wasn't quite ready to let down her guard just yet, in case the idiots actually decided they had more guts than brains.

Devyn was depressed. It wasn't an emotion she was used to because normally her life was so full with training and school and family and a million other things that she didn't have time to be depressed. Stressed sure, she was well familiar with that emotion, but not depression. She life had too much meaning to submit to such a lesser emotion.
Except now she didn't have any of that. Skydancer had woken up, so very recently, in a strange place far away from anything and anyone she knew and to make matters even worse, she woke up purple. Now, discovering that she was a mutant wasn't so bad, it was something of a dream come true really. But discovering that she was a freak who couldn't even pretend to be normal, well, that was different and a whole lot worse.
Not only was Devyn in a strange place with strange abilities she didn't know the first thing about actually controlling, but she was starting to go a little stir crazy. She couldn't' remember the last time she actually had a full day of doing nothing; future Olympians couldn't afford such days. Now, however, she didn't have anything at all to do, she was just a lost little girl in a big strange Mansion. She knew she wasn't the only one, but somehow that didn't really make things any better.
Deciding that she had to do something or go completely crazy, Devyn took careful look at a map and decided that Central Park wasn't too far away. Despite the warm weather, she wore a long heavy jacket and a wide brimmed hat, in an effort to hide her newly distinctive purple skin. The last thing she needed was to attract the wrong kind of attention and have someone try and hurt her.
When Devyn finally arrived at Central Park, she found a swing and sat down, feet dangling over the ground and eyes pointed downwards. After a short while passed, she looked up and spotted another mutant, this one hard to miss and, it seemed, just as alone as she was. Feeling just a little bit nervous about approaching a strange mutant, she got up and walked over to him. "Hi. I'm Devyn." Purple hands were held in front of her, fidgeting nervously.

Skydancer nodded at the three red giants as they were introduced, fairly certain that she wouldn't be able to tell one apart from another. Now there was a curiosity though perhaps now was not the best time to indulge said curiosity. She filed away the thought for later questioning.
Skydancer gave the young man and his portal a long look. Now this was the sort of situation she never could have expected herself to be in. Here she was, in the middle of a dirty alley with mutants all around and an offer to go to some sort of paradise island. How could she ever have thought that such a thing would even be something she'd have to one day consider?
The portal boy, however, made a rather convincing argument made even more convincing as, one by one, the mutants around her decided to take him up on his offer. How dangerous could it be, really, with the giant red mutants and a lava mutant around? Besides, it wasn't as if she couldn't take care of herself as well, if it came to it.
"If nothing else, I suppose this'll be an adventure," Skydancer spoke to Aedus with a shrug and a grin. With that, she took an impulsive step through the portal, consequences be damned. If this really was some kind of mutant paradise, it was an opportunity too appealing to ignore.

"Don't you think you could consider making new choices and having a new direction in life now, if you wanted to?" Skydancer had dedicated her entire youth to becoming an Olympic athlete only to have that dream torn from her so she understood how difficult it could to be radically change one's direction in life. Still, she was proof that it was possible.
"I'm sorry you're friends are dead," Skydancer spoke truthfully. She had her own experience with death, even if it was only a single person she had lost. Still, she knew what it was like. "If you want, I can offer to be a friend. Even if, as you suspect, we may one day end up on opposite sides of the conflict." She was certain there were those who would disagree with her decision, marking Aura a murderer and a psychopath, but it felt like the right thing to do and she wasn't about to take it back. "I'm not so easy to kill." She smiled, trying to keep the comment light.
"Did you want to leave now? To head towards Sanctuary?" Despite everything, Skydancer still felt in important to see the place for herself and actually speak to those who lived there. She was starting to feel like she belonged at The Mansion, but how could she make any sort of sure decision without first understanding and experiencing all angles?

The swarm of bug life was both impressive and rather terrifying. It wasn't as if Skydancer had any particular phobia of bugs, but seeing a swarm of angry stinging and biting creatures was enough to send anyone running in the opposite direction. Or at least it should have been. Certainly the crowd was milling about in confusion, some trying to flee, some frozen in terror but there were still too many that, despite the onslaught, seemed in no mood to simply let their mutant targets leave unmolested.
“Come on. Let’s get out of here before these people do something stu—“
A hand came out and grabbed the bug woman's wrist. Before Skydancer could think of reacting, she opened her mouth and a horrific swarm of buzzing death came out of her mouth and into every opening on the man's face. It was the kind of thing that nightmares were made of, although she couldn't bring herself to feel sorry for the man. After all, he had brought everything upon himself.
Seeing that the man, either because of panic or sheer foolishness, still refused to remove his grip from the bug queen's arm, Skydancer took things into her own hands. A purple tube wrapped itself around is wrist and began to squeeze. She felt a distinct crack as the tiny bones in his wrist shattered under the pressure and it was only then that he finally released his grip. A casual flick of a tube and he went flying into the rest of the mob.
"I think its time we left." Skydancer brought her hand down and attempted to take the other woman's hand. It would be better if they remained together for safety reasons. A mob like the one they were in, they might attempt to separate the two of them and they were much stronger together than they would be apart.
A rock flew into Skydancer head, causing her to momentarily see stars as pain blossomed from the impact point. Apparently the humans had decided that attacking from a distance was better than confronting them head on. Perhaps smart of them, but why couldn't' they just flee and leave well enough alone instead?

Being the hero was not all it was cracked up to be. Sure, the comic books and movies made it sound awfully appealing, but they were clearly leaving some very important information out of the picture. Information such as, it hurt to be a hero. Maybe if she had heard that part of it she might have reconsidered her actions. Actually, she probably wouldn't have but telling herself such at least made her feel a little less insane. The one good thing about the situation was the fact that, at least her opponent looked as bad as she currently did.
Skydancer gingerly made her way back to her feet. The only good thing about the situation is there were no large heights involved and no baseball bats, pipes or anything else capable of breaking bones. Scrapes and bruises sucked big time but they could be recovered from. Broken bones meant tubes most likely would be burst as well, and that was far more serious and far more difficult to recover from.
Skydancer ducked as the shield was thrown and went sailing over her head, although in truth she probably hadn't needed to duck in order to avoid it. "Can we just end this foolishness? I don't want to fight and you don't like to be in any shape to fight, so can we just end this and I'll let you go peacefully?" Just in case the shifter wasn't willing to listen to reason, she kept her tubes defensively in front of her, pointed tips directed outward.
“Hey, lady, Are you okay? Do you need a doctor?”
"No doctor," Skydancer answered. She spared a brief glance and a tired smile at the man before returning her attention to the threat. Her skin was all ready healing and unless he should throw something very unexpected at her, she didn't think a doctor would be necessary. "How about you? Do you need a doctor?" They had all taken a bit of a beating and not everyone had the advantage of miraculously healing flesh. Of course, some of the deeper pains would remain with her for days, but at least her skin would be nice and unmarred, right?
