The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gina was surprisingly fast for a girl of her stature, flying up the steps (figuratively, since there was little space for her wings to help her out along the way.) Becca was thankfully filled with the same excited energy, so she was able to keep pace with her friend. Being with Gina again made her feel like the high school senior she was when they met years earlier. Agnes was always going to be one of the first people Becca met when she got to America, and she was of course the one she grew closest to, but Gina was genuinely the first person she met at the Mansion, and truly, her first friend in America.
During their ascent, Gina could not hold back questions about Becca’s teaching, thrilled to learn more. The redheaded teacher was happy to oblige. ”Weel, Ah’m an English teacher, an' Ah teach a range ay grades frae first tae twelfth. Sae actually,” she drew out her answer on where she was teaching before finally admitting, ”Ah’m workin' at th' Mansion! Daein' th' whole 'returnin' alumnus' hin', ye know?” If she was going to be using her degree to teach, it only felt right to return to the Mansion and give back after it gave her so much in her short time there.
Making it up to Gina’s floor, a keycard granted them entry into a warm, cozy living space where Gina could explain the living situation. Though Becca cringed a little at the word “mutie,” (which she was less comfortable reclaiming than some of her kin,) it was nice to know Gina was living somewhere accepting. Her friend could not pretend to be human or hide who she was, and while she was sure the gargoyle girl could defend herself, that did not mean she wanted her to have to in her own home.
The way Gina excitedly explained the space to her as she led her through the building made Becca laugh. ”Gina, Ah know we're baith excited, but Ah promise Ah’m in nae rush,” she teased. She meant nothing by it; on the contrary, it was heart-warming to see Gina and have her high-energy voice back in her life.
Gina led Becca into her room, and the older girl was immediately impressed by it. The room was lived in and had the hallmark of an artsy spirit, from the hanging decorations to the sewing machine to the wall filled with memories collected in photographs. Gina thought the room felt very Medocino to her, which Becca remembered as her hometown. Becca had another thought. ”It feels very ‘Gina’ tae me,” she replied with a toothy grin.
Now that they were settled, Gina seemed ready to pry about Becca’s new girlfriend, and she was, in turn, happy to oblige. Pulling up the gallery on her phone and tossed the device to Gina on the bed. She would provide her with some Nessa insights while the curious college girl could scroll through photos, which recently consisted of selfies, pictures of Nessa, pictures with Nessa, and pictures of her cat, Domino. (And, seemingly forgotten by Becca, were two photos from weeks earlier, one sent by her and one sent to her, of a more… intimate nature.) ”Her name’s Nessa. She is pure sweit when ye gie pest hoo snarky an' sarcastic she is. She works oan a gamin' channel. She's great tae me an’ cute as a button.”
While Gina looked through Becca’s photos, the guest decided to take her turn, looking over the photos collected on the wall. It was not hard to see herself and her ex-girlfriend sprinkled through the collection. Her hand rested lightly on a snapshot of the three girls in Central Park indulging in the gorgeous weather and ice cream cones from a nearby vendor. ”It’s amazing hoo time flies,” she mused quietly, thinking of how different all three women’s lives were now.
Turning back to her friend, not wanting to have all the focus on herself, she asked, ”Sae is th' machine a hobby, ur did ye end up gonnae skale fur fashion design loch ye a’ays said?”

Becca was initially worried by the seeming delay between Nessa opening the door and words exchanged. Were her girlfriend and her ex-girlfriend sizing each other up? It was hard to tell since the door opened in her direction, obscuring her vision of the meeting.
Thankfully, there was a greeting to follow, and Becca could breathe a small sigh of relief. She needed this meeting to go well, and while logically it was likely to be fine, she was also aware that Agnes could struggle with some new people, and Nessa could be… well, a rough person for someone to meet for the first time. Her girlfriend was an absolute sweetheart, but her natural instincts in conversation led to her saying things that could be considered…
”Nessa. I’ve heard a lot about you. Lovely to meet you finally. Becca talks about you all the time.”
”You too. All. The. Time.”
”I hope you like vegetarian lemon poppy seed cookies?”
”Oh good, there’s no bacon in these.”
…Rude. Becca cleared her throat loudly to alert Nessa to her flat tone. With her group, her constant quips and snark were expected and even beloved, but in the real world, she needed reining in. ”Sorry. What I meant was I appreciate it. I’m not a vegan, so thankfully I’m not a huge pain in the ass to buy food for. Thank you.”
It was the best Becca could hope for. There were no vegans in the room, so she would let the last comment slide. Bigger battles, after all.
Unsurprisingly, Agnes was nervous about the video they would be filming. She knew it was something outside of her ex’s comfort zone, which was why Becca was all the more appreciative that she did not back down from the invite. It would make the video more dynamic, and she was sure those asking about her ex were hoping to finally put a name and face to the stories. As much as Nessa’s proposal was agreed to out of anxiousness, it could turn into a video that would rake in plenty of views for her. ”Dinnae gie tay woriat. Yoo're gonnae dae great. It's nae live sae we can tak' as mony takes as ye need.”
With the setup complete, Becca was free to walk over to Agnes as she greeted Domino, who was thirsty for her attention. ”Ah know th’ feelin’. Ah hae lint rollers oan standby if ye need.” After all the apprehension Agnes had about hosting Lilith, it was heart-warming to see her accepting her role as a true cat mother. ”Ah hope mah Lily is daein’ weel?”
Becca looked over her ex-girlfriend-slash-temporary-co-host and gave her a once-over. She would look great on camera, and the outfit was not green, which was great. Becca had forgotten to warn Agnes about the green screen, so that could have been an annoying delay at the hands of her own lack of communication. ”Dae ye need some makeup? Nae 'at ye dornt look gorgeoos, but wi' th' cameras an' lights an—”
”Eavy vere, Sprinkles,” Nessa interrupted, nibbling on one of Agnes’s cookies of good faith. ”What she’s saying is doing makeup for recording is a little different. I can take care of it if you like,” she offered. She then, as a non-sequitur, pointed back to the tin she left on the counter in the kitchen area. ”Also, I’m going to eat literally all those cookies tonight.” Of course, Nessa was open to sharing if the other girls wanted a treat, but they had to be aware that the cookies were delicious and not long for this world.

It was hard not to feel dirty dealing with thoughts of her ex-girlfriend while Becca had a perfectly sweet, caring girlfriend at home. Nothing had happened to make her unfaithful, but dealing with thoughts of straying was enough to leave Becca wracked with constant guilt.
Maybe she needed the chance to finally just get her problems off her chest. It helped having friends around to support her and remind her she was not a terrible person or bad girlfriend. She was busy looking forward at her knees when Serena came in to hug her, the squeezing catching her by surprise with an, ”Oh!” before she reciprocated. She felt the comforting hand on her back from Juliette and supporting words from all three women assuring her they were here to support and not judge.
Looking to move the evening forward, Cosmo was being proposed, which Becca could get behind. Feeling her guilt receding, the idea of slowing her drinking down was a smart one.
Sarah came over and Becca politely skootched forward to give her new friend some space behind him. She smiled brightly when she realized she was volunteering the space so Sarah could braid with or play with her hair. ”Thes. Thes Ah approve ay.” It did not matter who did it; Rebecca was a sucker for someone playing with her hair, and braiding was close enough as slender fingers ran through to part her wave of red hair.
Becca was not the only one with concerns about her current love life situation it would seem, as Sarah admitted her own issues. ”Hoo unfair tae keep somethin' loch 'at frae ye!” It was her initial reaction, because if she was in Sarah’s shoes, she knew she’d react poorly to finding out her lover had withheld something like that.
Maybe she was not the only one being unfair. She had a habit in the past to quickly get upset by undisclosed information, a la Age of Sebastian Agnes, but that had been a mistake. She had to be reasonable and remember people had their reasons for making decisions, even if she disagreed. ” Sorry. At leest he tauld yoo; 'at is important,” she added, appreciating that Sarah’s mystery man came forward to her willingly. The whole situation reminded her of a recent re-addition to her teaching staff. ”Jules an' Ah wark wi' a bloke fa turned himself in fur things he did. He's back noo, an' he's actually an alright bloke. Hot, tay,” she added absentmindedly.
Returning into the moment, she spoke over her shoulder, ”Ah guess Aj’m sayin’ mebbe yer bad boy micht nae be sae bad?”

”You know, I could totally build you an actual gaming PC. Just say the word.”
Becca looked up from her laptop, snapped out of the trance the screen often put her in by the low voice of Nessa sitting at the foot of her bed. ”Oh? Ah mean, Ah’m nae playin’ games; just lookin’ ower comments tae see whit fowk want advice oan.” Becca’s advice vlogs were some of her most popular videos, and her fans knew she would look through comments to find out what they wanted her to talk about. The channel was a conversation and a community; that was well known as one of her philosophies for Pixelbecky.
Nessa, who was a gaming channel girl and whose idea of “community” often meant hopping online to play games, rolled her eyes at the extra effort that went into such a personal blog. ”So many feelings!” she joked, falling back on the bed to sit next to her girlfriend. ”What do the masses want to hear about from Pixelbecky?”
Running the fingers of her free hand through Nessa’s short brown hair, Becca looked over some of the comments with the most likes. ”Looks loch… ‘Hoo tae teel a girl ye loch ‘er—’”
”Which you suck at,” Nessa teased.
”’Whit tae dae when ye love a straecht girl—‘”
”Do you even know any straight girls—oof!”
Becca lightly slapped Nessa in the stomach to shut up her joking for a moment. ”Ooor… ‘Hoo tae be friends wi’ an ex.’” Once she realized what she was reading, Becca’s voice trailed off into a mumble.
Nessa sunk her teeth into the question, arching her brow and smirking. ”That one sounds perfect for you. You and Agnes seem to be thick as thieves these days. Maybe you should bring her on for an episode,” she teasingly suggested.
The thought was scary to Rebecca, who had been working hard lately to keep her thoughts of Agnes tame and appropriate. At the same time, she did not want to make it sound like something was wrong between the two ex-girlfriends, so maybe she overcompensated. ”Ah mean, it's nae a terrible idea, reit? Ye hink?”
It did not sound terrible, sure, but that did not mean it was an idea Nessa was on board with. Quietly, she had been growing more uncomfortable with how much time Rebecca was spending with her ex-girlfriend lately, but she did not want to come across as a jealous girlfriend. Things were going well between them, and paranoia was a death knell for a happy relationship, right? ”Yeah. Yeah, um, sure. That could be an interesting video,” she agreed half-heartedly.
Which was how they ended up here.
Any video had some jitters associated with it, but Becca was genuinely anxious as she worked on setting up her cameras and audio equipment. The two girls had spent time together since the sleepover night, and on the surface, everything seemed normal. She was sure Agnes had no idea what was going through her mind. Becca was being plagued with the ghosts of memories from their former relationship, as well as fresh new memories like the kiss they shared, or the sight of Agnes sneaking into the living room to grab her phone. She feigned sleep, but had not missed Agnes walking out in boyshorts before returning to her bedroom. Becca had to calm down her racing heart and the compulsion to follow her back to the bedroom.
All these thoughts were unfair to the woman setting up Becca’s green backdrop. Nessa had been nothing but a great, accommodating girlfriend since they got together, and here Becca was getting butterflies over another woman.
Add to all that stress the knowledge that her girlfriend and her ex-girlfriend were about to meet, and Becca was dealing with a feeling of dread. She rationalized that having the girls meet each other would make things easier: she could establish her relationship with Agnes as platonic in the eyes of Nessa, and make it clear to everyone (including herself) that Nessa was the woman she wanted to be with. Almost in an act of affirmation, Becca chose a sweatshirt from Nessa’s company’s clothing line for the video.
Her hair was done into loose curls, her make-up was carefully done with products that would not hide her signature freckles (since she had an audience and two women to impress, all of whom enjoyed her freckly visage.) All she needed now was—
KNOCK-KNock-knock…!
Becca jumped at the sound of Agnes’s first loud knock, her nerves already suspect before the introduction of new surprises. The knocking was followed by an apology from the other side of the door that sounded very representative of Agnes.
Before Rebecca could make a move for the door, Nessa almost excitedly replied, ”I’ve got it!” and was on her way to greet the newcomer before any objections could be made.
Nessa opened the door to see her black-haired predecessor standing there, waiting. Before any words were shared, she locked eyes with Agnes, and for a moment she appeared to be in thought. Seemingly realizing how long her gaze was lingering, Nessa’s eyes darted away and she forced a smile. ”Nice to meet you. I’m Nessa.” She offered her hand for a firm shake before moving out of the doorway, welcoming Agnes in with a, ”Make yourself at home,” carrying the confidence of a woman who knew she had the authority to say such a thing in her girlfriend’s apartment.
Becca looked up from the laptop she was connecting her camera’s to, smiling nervously at the new presence in her apartment. ”Hi, Aggie. Ye excited fur yer PixelHearts debut?”

It was rare these days for Rebecca to spend her nights at the Mansion. Now in her twenties, the former student had her own apartment in the city, relegating her former home to a place she only frequented for work. She loved the Mansion, but between all her commitments, her time was too limited to spend hanging around the lounge each night, like she once did.
The Mansion at night held so many memories of her early years in New York: her first birthday sleepover, late night snacks with friends in the kitchen, and most of the key moments in her relationship with Agnes. The kitchen, the dorm wing, the library (she thought with a blush,) and of course, the garden. It was possible these days, her choice to spend time away from the Mansion was a precaution to keep her from drowning in nostalgia.
Tonight Agnes was already on her mind, making her question her relationship with Vanessa, so rather than shying away from her memories, she decided to just lean into it. Her focus had been poor lately, and training sounded like the best way to counteract that. She passed by landmarks of her old relationship because it was necessary to get to the Danger Room, where she could work on herself privately, assuming none of the other X-Men wanted a late-night session as well.
The walk was quiet, occasionally punctuated by passing students who were keen on staying up late. It was well past her working hours, so the teacher felt no need to play den mother and tell them to get to bed. Some students would say hi, but let her pass unbothered; they had their own late-night plans, she was sure. Soon she was walking down the empty hallways alone, with the sneaking feeling she was being watched… before remembering the Mansion had security cameras, so a feeling like that was unavoidable.
Becca made it to the first set of sliding doors, using her ID card to grant her access. The off-limits hall would have been where she grabbed anything she might have needed from her costume, but that night, she just passed through. The thought occurred to her to grab her armor to practice levitation, but she wanted to focus today on physical training and using her magnetism on external forces. Once she got to the end of the hall, she granted herself access past a larger set of metal sliding doors that, when finally opened, allowed her to enter the Danger Room.
Now in the currently empty room alone, Becca dropped the duffle bag she was carrying on the ground and started with some light stretching; pulling her arm across her chest before switching to the other arm, lifting both arms over her head, and any other basic stretches to get loosened up. Feeling alone enough to ignore the feelings of being watched, she unzipped her hoodie and tossed it, along with her jeans, toward her duffle bag. Finally in her sports bra and yoga shorts, and with her red hair tied in a ponytail behind her, Becca could enjoy full freedom of movement. In a moment, she would call out one of the training programs designed for her, but first, she wanted to finish her stretches and go through the fighting stances Emerald taught her.

It was refreshing how the whole Mission Team was acting so casually on the X-Jet as they flew to the mission, making it almost feel like they were not on their way to potentially throw themselves into danger. They all understood the premise of what they were doing and the basis of “the plan,” but with so many variables to anticipate, there was no reason to spend the whole flight in their own heads thinking about what came next. Becca was understanding that being an X-Man meant being fine with improvisation in a pinch.
She was familiar with most of the team, with Jorge helping her and Agnes out several times when they were younger, and Mirror as the teammate she saw the most as a personal friend, (not that it would affect how she treated Gawain on the mission.) She had been on a mission with Saph in the “Living Tower,” and it was good to know a team veteran would have her back out there if need be.
Maya, codename Ghost, was the one teammate she only knew in passing. Maya’s situation had been explained privately to Rebecca, which she was thankful for, because if she had met the partially-transparent woman without prior preparation, she might have risked putting her foot in her mouth.
It was Maya that pointed out there was a sixth person tagging along on their mission, which was unexpected. She would have believed any of the kids at the school might have known better than to hide away when the X-Men were going on a dangerous mission.
Of course, that belief did not accurately accommodate for the brat that was Elke. Back when Becca had first met the girl, she was very young and a total brat, going by her nickname, Moose. Now that she was back in the states and teaching at the Mansion, Becca had to deal with Elke as a student, and as it turned out? Still a total brat. ”Ah swear, Ah’m nae sure if ‘Ah should know better’ is e’en in yer vocabulary,” she said, accepting that this kind of acting out was probably inevitable and not worth getting worked up over.
Bigger problems were on the horizon, which was clear when Jorge made it clear he was hearing things.
In fact, it was not just Jorge; Gawain seemed clearly uncomfortable as he admitted to hearing whatever it was the elder X-Man was talking about. This was enough to worry Rebecca, because as far as she could tell, she was hearing nothing but the standard sounds you’d expect in a jet flying over the ocean. ”Okay, Ah’m nae hearin' it.” She paused for a second before looking at the other mutants aboard the jet, trying not to sound concerned. ”Am Ah th' only one nae hearin' it?” At first, she was worried for Jorge and Mirror, but now it was occurring to her that she might have been the odd woman out.
Which was annoying, because she would love to know what was going on that was so creepy. ”...Also, Eh'd loove if someain coods at leest teel me whit ‘it’ is.” A Mirror recon mission sounded like a good idea, because they clearly had a lack of intel coming into things.

If Rebecca had to sleep in her jeans, it would not be a first for the girl, whether it was a night where she fell asleep at her laptop or crashing unexpectedly at a colleague’s flat at Oxford. This was kind of like those nights, where Rebecca changed her plans at the last minute for one reason or another to remain where she was, but her old colleagues did not give her butterflies. Knowing how close they would be all night, the feeling of fluttering was noticeable.
Thankfully, Agnes was kind enough to look for something Rebecca could wear out of her wardrobe. It was not uncommon for the girls to occasionally swap clothes when the need called for it back in their day; Agnes was definitely the thinner of the two, but their builds were close enough to be comfortable in some of the same clothes. While the hostess ducked away into her room, Becca was doing her best to tuck a sheet around the seat cushions, leaving her with a sheet and a warm blanket to cover herself with.
A curious Lilith apparently had a different goal, choosing to paw at the free corner of Becca’s bedsheet. Becca wanted to be annoyed as the kitten tried to undo her attempts at sheet tucking, but it was hard to be upset when Lilith when she now got to watch a confused kitten as her tossing and grabbing resulted in an unexpected kitty burrito.
Becca was giggling by the time Agnes returned with pajamas she was pretty sure the musician had for years. A ladybug top and loose flannel pajama pants; if it was not an old outfit, then Agnes’s tastes in sleepwear had not changed much. The outfit was handed her the outfit alongside a comment that made both of them laugh nervously. In an attempt to lighten the mood, she replied, ”Sae there’s a guid time fur nudity, then?” Of course there was. Seconds after a bedroom door slammed behind them but before Agnes’s body was thrown on her bed to be—
bzzz! bzzz!
From the nearby couch, Becca’s phone was buzzing. At this time of the night, she could guess who was texting her, and the thought of Nessa broke her trance.
Covering her mouth, she chuckled nervously, speaking through her fingers. ”Sorry, Ah’m feelin’ silly. It’s getting’ late.” It was probably for the best for the girls to retreat for their corners for the evening so Becca could focus on clearing her head. Holding up the clothes, she smiled. ”Thenks again.”
There was a pause while Rebecca looked at Agnes, who was in turn looking at her. To break the silence, she mumbled, ”Sae, Ah shoods probably gie changed.” Glancing over to Agnes’s bedroom, she added, ”Ye can gang tae bed, Ah hink Ah’m guid haur.” Her bed was made, the kitten’s needs were taken care of, and her girlfriend was waiting for a response.
”If ye need me, ye know whaur Ah'll be,” she joked. Once Agnes was on her way back to her room, Becca turned her back to her and started removing her shirt to change into her wardrobe for the evening.
Once she was in infinitely more comfortable pants, Becca hopped into the impromptu bed she made for herself so she could finally check her phone.
Hope the kitty is feeling at home. I’m jealous
Of the kitty. I’m really missing you tonight, hun. Sleep well.
What was wrong with Rebecca? She sent a cute little status update to Nessa, but her heart was not in it.
It was too busy thinking about how, after all this time, the scent on those pajamas was still the same. Her head was filled with thoughts of lavender and honey and the past and Agnes resting only a room away...

Rebecca had a few reasons to attend the “Unity of Arts,” not the least of which being her desire to support a friend. Agnes played a role in the entertainment for the evening, and being there for Agnes was enough of a reason to pick out a nice dress and be social for the evening. As of late, her ex-girlfriend was coming back to the forefront of her mind with growing regularity. They were still working out the kinks that came with transitioning into a healthy, appropriate friendship, and maybe she would be having an easier time of it if Agnes was not the most stunning thing in a black sheer gown Becca had ever seen.
After performing, an attractive blonde woman in a red dress reached Agnes before she could. From a distance, the woman’s face seemed familiar, much like the angry Russian blonde Becca once enraged by accidentally flirting with her French boyfriend. It was for the best that the redhead spotted the women from a distance; Svety (as she remembered Jude calling her) might have still been carrying a grudge, and honestly, it was probably safest for Becca’s heart to keep her distance from Agnes. With Nessa out of town for the evening, being at a Gala with Agnes would begin feeling like a date almost immediately.
Instead, Rebecca spotted another reason she had decided to attend the Gala, Devon Hadden, talking to an older couple. Part of the reason the event was being hosted at all was to build support for a new organization he was organizing called Haven. Support came in many different forms, be they man hours, financial backing, or good press. Rebecca’s time was limited between work and her duties as an X-Man, and her financial situation was stable as long as she was only looking to support herself and her cat.
Rebecca could, however, be a voice of support for Haven if she thought there was merit to the organization. It was surprising she would even be reached out to for an event such as this; new media was still looked at with prejudice by those who mingled with old money. It made sense though; of the voices on the internet, Pixelbecky was well-known as a vocal supporter of mutant rights, mutant equality, and anti-discrimination laws across the board. She was not just a popular face, she was seen by many as an advocate, and atop that, she was a member of the X-Men. As public endorsements go, she could be a beneficial one.
Knowing Devon as the man who “cleaned up Sanctuary,” Becca had been curious enough to see the man’s plans for herself. With her ice-blue floor-length gown trailing behind her heeled feet, she approached the host as he wrapped up his conversation. ”Mr. Hadden, man ay th' hoor, Ah presume?” She offered him her hand in greeting. ”Rebecca Grey. Thenk ye fur th' invitation. Colur me flattered, an' quite curioos tae learn mair ay whit yoo're plannin' haur.”

Lilith responded positively to the name Rebecca had granted to her, which warmed her pet friendly heart. There was a debate to be had about how much pets understood the people who took care of them, but Becca had faith that cats were smarter than some people gave them credit for. Lilith was a great example: in less than a day, she had gone from living on the streets to winning over the heart of a skeptic like Agnes (whether she wanted to admit it or not,) and now had a cozy apartment to sleep in for the night.
Agnes was less pleased with how quickly Becca bastardized a demon name into an adorable pet name, but she clearly appreciated the name as well. They were sharing a quiet, pleasant moment of petting Lilith and winding down the evening when Agnes broke the temporary silence with a yawn. (She always had a cute yawn.) She tried giving Becca an out for the evening, but the guest shook her head. ”Nae, Ah’m a woman of mah word.” She was directed to a nearby linen closet where she could gather herself some sheets and blankets, as well as a fluffy pillow her neck would surely thank her for.
While Becca was gathering her essentials for the night, wondering why she had the nagging feeling she forgot something, Agnes was doing her part to threaten Lilith with the fire escape as her own personal time out. Pouting, she rolled her eyes and appreciated the kitten’s response, taking the pointed finger with her paw and giving it a lick. ”Oh, Aggie,” she said with a sigh, before turning her attention to the sleepy kitten. ”Dornt ye worry, Lily. Momma's only jokin'. Yoo'll be stayin' it haur wi' me sae Ah hae a cuddle buddy.” That was well-received, with Lilith purring like a motor.
Becca was laying a sheet over the cushions of the couch when she finally figured out what was missing from her nighttime setup. ”Ah shoot,” she said, pouting at herself. ”Ah forgot pajamas while Ah was it earlier.” She had been so occupied getting things to prepare for Lilith that dressing properly for sleep was a lower priority.
Sighing as she felt resigned to her night, she shrugged her shoulders. ”Whatever, Ah shoods be able tae sleep in jeans fur one nicht.” In truth, Becca probably was not thinking about the necessity of sleep clothes because the last time she shared an apartment with Agnes, they had long since reached the point where pants were not a bedtime requirement. She should have known better, but her mind was in all the wrong places that day.

Becca was filling her glass… again. Wait, was she on her third glass already? This game was dangerous, from both an alcohol consumption perspective and a secret divulging perspective. She was pretty sure as the game went along that the sips she was taking were getting longer with each question, which was a reckless trend to continue.
It was not only the freckled redhead who had wine-reddened cheeks; the whole group was getting red and giggly, almost devolving into the stereotypes of their gender. Juliette groaned at Sarah’s question, shifting awkwardly in her seat knowing she was being called out for her relationship with the X-Leader, but she was not the only one forced to drink. Becca almost felt bad because she was sure this was at least the third time Serena was drinking as penance for kissing her. Meanwhile, Becca drank in memory of her overseas tryst with Gawain, even if she was not going to let the girls know exactly which of the X-Men she knew intimately.
Juliette was calling her out, but for a different answer. Rebecca had been the only one who could own up to loving two people at once, and her friends were calling for story time to begin. Becca groaned, wondering if it was wise to divulge some of her current emotional struggles. ”Mebbe. First, Ah get mah turn, at least. Ne'er hae Ah ever kissed tois people within twintie-fower hoors.” If Becca was going to throw her shame out on the table, she wanted to appreciate that there were still some things on her harlot bingo card she had yet to check off.
Juliette and Sarah both sipped from their drinks, with the latter muttering to herself ”Within an hour honestly, but who’s counting.”
”Mah party girls,” she replied with a grin.
”I mean, I did at least know both those people longer than thirty minutes.”
Becca gasped with faux offense. ”Hashtag-rude,” she replied before giving Sarah an over-the-top wink, which the tanned brunette returned, leading to a back and forth of winks before they fell back to giggling at their own absurdity.
With her turn out of the way, the other three girls were looking to Becca exeptantly, and she knew it was time to come clean with her story. Was relationship talk not one of the staples of a slumber party anyway? The cliché was boy talk, but this was clearly a more progressive party anyway. She sighed but ultimately submitted. ”Sae Ah am nae at th’ point yet whaur Eh’d say Ah loove Nessa. But Ah loch ‘er. Ah really, pure dae loch her.” She knew she liked Nessa, even if she occasionally had to use it as a mantra to make good decisions.
”But… Ah… micht still loove mah ex-girlfriend.” There was a sting in her chest admitting that aloud, and she might have kept it to herself had the encouraging presence of alcohol not aided her forward. ”We kissed again, ‘afor Ah got together wi' Nessa, but Ah almost did it again recently.” The temptation to kiss Agnes again the night she helped her look after a stray kitten was strong, and if it continued to grow, it would be stronger than her.
It was a messy story, but what was she forgetting? Oh, right. ”Also, she’s engaged. Ur maybe nae anymore, we’re nae sure.”
Rebecca took a moment amidst the uncomfortable silence that followed to drink more than half of her glass in one long sip. A fourth glass sounded great.

Becca could not remember meeting a cat she did not fall at least the tiniest bit in love with, but she might have had a particular weakness for strays. Those poor kittens who grew up alone, with no one to love them, had a special place in her heart. They were always the most affectionate, and once she earned their trust, they appreciated all the love she had to give. It was comforting to return home after a long day and curl up with a former stray, watching a movie and playing with her hair.
Fur. Petting. Petting their fur.
Okay, so maybe she had a little Agnes on the brain. Given the way they were spending their evening, it was natural to have nostalgic thoughts. Dating Agnes was a major part in her life, and ignoring it was going to be impossible. Maybe she had to find a way to interact with Agnes like any other friend, while accepting there would always be occasional memories that would resurface.
She was not going to forget the way Agnes would sit near the window in their living room playing her violin, filling their apartment with music. Occasionally, she would find herself daydreaming about Agnes stepping out of the bathroom in a towel so she could approach her from behind and get her shirt wet hugging her, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. When she woke up next to Nessa, there might even be mornings before she opened her eyes when she forgot which body was laying next to her, if only for a moment.
Maybe she had to learn to live with those memories and those ghosts of their past, and have the self-control to leave them in the past. This would be a challenge, but she had to do it.
ANYWAY.
The cat. The kitten. The stray. Becca had proposed giving a name to the poor thing so she could mentally stop calling it the cat, the kitten, and the stray. It felt rude for a creature to just be called what they were. It would have also felt rude to name the cat anything Agnes was suggesting; she could make a big show of it, but she was clearly growing a begrudging resentment for the little beastie. It had been minutes since the last time she saw Agnes take a break from petting.
”Kinda small tae be a Heel Beest. if yoo're gonnae make 'er some kin' ay demon, at leest make it one wi' a nam. Loch…” she thought back to the demons most people would know, ”Hecate? Ur Gorgon? Ur… Ooo! Hoo abit Lilith?”
Pleased with herself, Becca scratched under the Lilith’s chin. ”Ye loch ‘at, Lily?”

One round through her first game of Never Have I Ever, and… Becca had gone a solid three for three. Never had she ever thought she would be the type of girl who would hit every criteria of every question in a game like this. The once innocent Scot was going to have to take some time to seriously assess the habits she was picking up.
Rebecca was not oblivious to the look Jules gave her when she took her sip for sleeping with a guy. She was not shy about being bi, but given the one instance where she did indulge in the opposite sex, the fact that she had sex with a man was not one she advertised. Somehow, she doubted that excuse would fly with Juliette, especially after that cute little stunt she pulled, outing Serena and Becca for their meeting on the Mansion bench. (At least that would keep her from having to explain the time she did the same thing with Vicente.)
After Sarah asked a question that would obviously get her, (and herself as well, which Becca was not entirely sure was within the rules, but would not stop a girl from drinking,) Becca was already starting to feel warm. She was not a total lightweight, but red wines were a weakness for her.
At the very least, she had a turn off as the great asker of questions. Glancing around the room again as she nibbled at the potato chips she had pulled from her bag, she knew she had a question at the very least Juliette would have to drink for. ”Ne'er hae Ah ever... dated a bad boy. Ur girl. There's nae judgin', obvioosly.” About the genders, at least, because she was ready for some high-key judging.
Jules was quick to reach for the bottle (probably) jokingly, but Becca lightly swatted her hand away, giggling. ”Yer datin’ choices urn ae excuse tae gie greedy.”
Sarah was the first one to say something, looking as though she were perturbed with someone who was not there with them. "Does it count if I didn't know he was?"
Becca smirked. ”Ah hink ye drink twice if ye didnae know." Sarah laughed and conceded her two drinks.
It was then Juliette that gave the extra rule some thought. ”Do I have to drink twice?”
Becca arched her brow, remembering Jules telling her how her and Sam met. ”Ye mit hem when he cam intae th’ hospital fur a stab woond. Ah hink ye knew.”
”But he said he was a cop...”
“He has an eyepatch.”
Serena was cackling, and Becca and Sarah were adding in with fits of laughter that almost took them off their chairs. Juliette refilled her glass after her drink and defiantly added, ”Well, bad boys are better in bed.”
“You would know, since he’s two doors down.” The final tease was only met with a wink from Juliette and laughter from the rest of the room as they opened a new bottle to refill any glasses in need.

Sarah introduced herself, making all four women in the apartment officially acquaintances at the very least, which was a good place to start any slumber party. Becca wanted to have a good time, but she was not the type to feel comfortable if someone felt like an outlier. In an effort to get the party started, (and get a glass of wine in her to loosen her up,) she followed Sarah to the kitchen to help her gather wine glasses and the bottle opener.
Juliette proposed some activities to start the party off with, a few of which perked Becca’s ears up, but Sarah, as the newcomer, had a good idea to warm them up. A game to get to know one another and open the girls up more sounded like a great way to get familiar. She had only just met Sarah, known Juliette for a short while, and only recently reconnected with Serena, so she would certainly reap the benefits of an ice breaker.
”’At soonds barry. Ah say Ne'er Hae Ah Ever since Ah've ne'er played 'at!” Back in Scotland, she had played Truth or Dare, resulting in her first kiss as a teen, but Never Have I Ever was a boring game for a group of girls who were still too young to have many diverse life experiences.
”Ah’ll start!” Taking a sip from the wine glass in her hand, she looked over the group she was with and wondered what she might have been able to catch at least one of them on. Her surveying stopped when her mismatched eyes landed on Serena and her lips curled into a mischievous grin. ”Ne'er Hae Ah Ever snogged a redhead.” It was true; of all the people she had now kissed, none matched the Paisley girl in hair color.
As expected, Serena took a sip from her glass, looking at Becca as a blush crossed her cheeks. Juliette took a sip from her glass as well, making her curious (and maybe a bit jealous) as to who the redhead in her past had been.
The only holdout was Sarah, who kept her glass down. Becca smirked. ”Mebbe we change 'at if ye play yer cards reit,” she joked, before remembering she was not, in fact, single—a fact she was still getting used to after two years. Her forwardness caught Sarah off guard, and she ended up in a coughing fit from the surprise, like she swallowed something incorrectly. Hastily, Becca added, ”Is a thing Ah woods say if Ah didne hae a girlfriend.”
When Sarah recovered, she managed to reply confidently with, "If you were single I might have take that offer."
Becca could only blush, having received a taste of her own medicine. She sipped her drink, not because she had kissed a redhead, but to shut herself up for a moment. ”Okay Serena, yer next!”

PixelBecky was in the home stretch for the on-screen portion of her AMA! Of course, she would gladly spend plenty of time answering questions with text replies, but it would be a relief to have the live portion of the event over. Even if she was comfortable in front of a camera, it did still require more thought and more conscious effort when it came to her posture, her diction, and avoiding streams of thought that might take her off topic. It was always going to be easier to write out her responses because she could take a moment to think over her answers rather than being put on the spot.
Whether the questions were coming for her fans or just the funnymen of the internet, they were getting her to laugh after almost every question. ”Ah mean, hoo can Ah say nae tae dyin' orphan puppies?”
Thinking over the question more seriously in a general scope, she mused out loud. ”Weel, it's one ay those things Ah woods hae ne'er dain when Ah was yoonger. But noo, Ah mean, Ah’m nae ashamed ay myself, sae fa knows? Mebbe if th' reit cause cam alang,” she answered with a wink, before remembering her student was behind the camera, causing her freckled cheeks to blush.
The next question was a more serious topic she was actually thankful to get a chance to talk about. ”That's... toochy. Scientific classifications ay species ur one thing, but we're aw quite literally part ay th' sam family. We're different, an' different isnae bad; we're aw still on th' sam team.” So many people would use the separation of species between “Homo Sapien” and “Homo Superior” as a reason to cast the two sides as warring factions fighting for survival, but Becca saw no need for two sentient, reasonable groups to fight rather than coexisting.
Asked about tattoos, Becca groaned. ”Ugh, not yet! Mah mate Nessa oan Th’ Pow Block Party has a couple cool ones, an’ she’s startin’ tae win me owe roan th’ idea. We’ll see,” she ended in a sing-song tone. If Nessa really did convince her to get a tattoo, there was no way Becca would not share that news on a Vlog update eventually.
The last question was a request, and one Becca was okay with, even if it might be one with creepy intent. Pixelbecky was constantly telling her fanbase she loved them anyway, so it was not like this would be the first time she’d be recorded online saying it. She was curious why he might need both accents if he only needed one ringtone, but she shrugged off the thought. ”Sure, why not?” She smiled and spoke in a clear, cheery tone, looking to avoid anything that sounded too intimate.
“Ah loove ye.
“I love you,” she added after a short pause in her false American accent.
Smiling to the camera, she added sincerely, ”An' truly, Ah say it a lot, but Ah loove aw ay ye out thaur who hae bin supportin' me an' who Ah am an' whit Ah dae. An' cheers fur keepin' me very entertained wi' yer questions!”
