The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Akshay had asked a perfectly innocent question. All he was doing was fawning and wondered just how real the simulation he was staring at was. But instead of a nice answer or a explanation, there was a sudden movement followed by the indescribable sense of flying through the air. Akshay had felt the initial blow, the pain radiated throughout his body as he his sense of weightlessness took over. But even that only lasted mere moments before he felt a sudden and hard THUD against the grimy, brick wall of the church.
A gasp fell from his lips as he slowly rolled down into a sitting position. Still dazed, he lifted his gaze at the dark, towering figure, and immediately eyed the fangs that were in the creature’s mouth. That was no ordinary human impersonating hologram…that was a VAMPIRE impersonating hologram!
Eyes wide, his back aching, Akshay watched in bewilderment as the creature advanced on him! But before it could get too close it suddenly paused as a whizzing sound cut through the air. Suddenly the vampire went rigid and collapsed into a pile of ash.
Akshay sat there, dumbfounded, as he tried to make sense of what happened. It was then that he noticed the arrow now sitting in the pile of ashes and one very badass, yet pissed off, looking young woman saunter up and notching another arrow.
>> "Get a grip…These things do real damage y'know."
“That…was…” he started to say in a solemn voice. But quickly he jumped to his feet, “SO FRICKIN’ COOOOOOL!!!”
He turned and knelt down in front of the ashes can began to run his fingers through it. Yeah, his back hurt from the pummeling back there but it seemed so minor now in comparison to everything that he had just experienced. Scooping up a handful of the ashes he rolled them between his hands and let them fly off in the light breeze that flew through the empty streets. Still in shock he tried to wrap his mind around this. Everything felt so real! The textures, the sounds, the sights, the smells, the tastes (yeah, he tasted the ashes), and yet he knew that they were still in whatever this DANGER Room was. It was just too uberly cool!
Suddenly, Akshay pulled his cell phone from his pocket and flicked on the video camera as he began to record himself.
“This is Akshay Malik and I am PRIME in the middle of probably one of the most HIGH TECH places I have ever been! Newman Ledge! Eat you fat heart out!” he grinned as he began to pan the rest of the Danger Room just to show how cool it was and narrated further…

Akshay knew that this was probably the stupidest decision that he had ever made in his life. Even when he decided one day dressed as Robin-Gal, just to prove his merit as a true cosplayer for the comic conventions. Yes, this decision was EVEN stupider than that one!
At least that was what Akshay thought as he cringed and attempted to keep himself as small as he could behind the table that was slowly being whittled away to absolutely nothing. He cursed himself. What did he think he was doing? He was no superhero! He didn’t even have powers that could be at all considered impressive enough to even warrant a try at running around, wearing a cape, and fighting crime! How could he do something as stupid and run BACK into the bank in the middle of a robbery?
But Akshay did not have long to chastise himself. As he crouched there, trying to figure out his next move, he peeked out of the corner of the table just in time to see a sight. The costume nutjob had taken the opportunity to slink out of his hiding spot and fling something that he held between his fingers. Suddenly one of the gunmen grunted and flew backwards. But the last, the leader, was a bit quicker than he seemed for his age.
The man had hurled another object, from his vantage point it looked like a bullet to Akshay, but the man had twisted enough to catch it in his shoulder. Then, just as Akshay thought that the battle would soon be won…the superhero…passed out. The man collapsed like a heap of dirty laundry, not releasing that the man he had just attacked was still standing.
The leader, a diabolical grin on his face, chuckled as he straightened up and slowly made his way forward. His gun rose as he pointed the barrel directly towards the forehead of the passed out man and spat off to the side.
“One less freak to worry abou—“
“Chrysanthemum!!!!” Akshay screamed as he suddenly bolted out from his hiding spot, plucked the word from the air and swung with the might and arch of a baseball player. The large word struck, hard, across the man’s gun hand, forcing him to stumble back.
The leader growled as his hand, now injured red and swollen, dropped the gun and he turned his attention onto Akshay.
“Another freak for the coroners?” the man hissed as he reached into the back of his belt, fingers curling around the handle of a knife.
With a gasp, seeing the motion, the wordsmith jumped into action. He quickly flipped the chrysanthemum word around.
“Nope! Just a nutjob for a jail cell!” Akshay yelled and threw the word into the man’s stomach which caused him to double over painfully. Once he was distracted, Akshay lifted the word and swung it with all his might into the leader’s head. Effectively, the man blacked out as he crumpled to the ground. That done, Akshay dropped the word, causing it to shatter, and sadly slumped down onto the floor, exasperated from the whole experience. He could only shake his head as he looked dully ahead. “What the hell just happened here?” He thought in astonishment.
Akshay was beyond excited at the prospect of actually being able to see this place in action. It just seemed absolutely too cool an opportunity to pass up. Being a comic nerd, an artist, and fan of everything sci-fi related, it was Akshay sworn duty to actually take part in this place! It was his duty to experience it and share it with his fellow nerds!
And, thankfully, it looked as if his wish was going to get to come true. Akshay was almost literally dancing on air!
In silent awe he watched as Maya step forward to the middle of the room and was silent for a moment. At first Akshay was not entirely sure what she was doing out there but his answer was soon received after he heard her speak to the air…
>> "Shadow Hunt…Level One."
He gasped. “JUST like Star Mech!” he squeed again, though a little silently this time and stood absolutely still.
What he thought would happen next, did. In complete and utter awe, he watched as the room around him suddenly began to change. Mouth opened in awe, he spun as he held on tightly to his drawing pad and gasped at the changes. The walls shifted, the empty space fluttered and undulated in front of him like hot air, and suddenly Akshay realized that somehow, an environment had actually begun to spring up al around him. Before he knew it, the gapping space that had made up the ‘Danger Room’ had shifted to the point that he was staring at…buildings, then a fog strewn road, and finally that it was night time. It. Was. AWESOME!
Akshay, eyes wide, couldn’t help himself as he took the first few steps in curiosity…
>> "Here we go…Find yourself something pointy. Preferably made of wood."
But Akshay was not there to hear any of it. Instead he was already long gone. In his excitement at exploring his simulated environment, Akshay had run off in an opposite direction, weaved between buildings, and finally was standing somewhere that looked very church-like. His footsteps barely echoed on the cobble streets that Akshay had to pause as he glanced down. Cobbled streets? He saw NOTHING of the room had he had been standing in minutes ago! This place was a technological dream!
In excitement, Akshay then dashed closer to the church, thoughts about leaving Maya behind did not even enter his head. Then, as he strolled, he spied someone, their back to him, standing in the alley next to the church. The wordsmith grinned as he ran up and waved!
“Oh my god! This is totally unreal! You’re part of the program, right? Sentient intelligence and all that?! So…awesome!!”

>> "It is called the Danger Room because we use it for training. No one is allowed in there unsupervised unless they are an official trainee or a team member. It does some freaky stuff sometimes."
Akshay nodded and silently followed wherever Maya led him. As much as he wanted to see the rest of the mansion, seeing as they were zooming through it at a walking speed that Akshay was not sure was humanly possible, he was too intrigued. The problem, whenever Akshay was intrigued, was that he always needed to follow it through to the end. He had to satisfy his curiosity or he would never find any rest. So, instead of asking a million-and-one questions of “what’s that?” or “that?” or “why’s that there?” Akshay simply followed until he found that they were descending lower into the mansion.
It was there that he saw a distinct difference in the décor when compared to upstairs. Instead of a homey atmosphere and exuded calm and tranquility, the lower levels were more cold and sterile. Not in a lab sort of way, but just enough to show that this place was for adults. That it was serious.
Akshay could not help the large smile on his face.
Suddenly they paused in front of a very large door and Akshay marveled at the high tech look of all of it! It looked like something straight out of a science-fiction novel! Or one of his comics! Akshay was totally in nerd heaven at the moment…
>> "Of course we also have a regular gym and a pool for people who are not cleared for special training…This is it."
If Akshay could express himself in the form of an emoticon, it would look like …
The large, empty space looked absolutely beautiful and wonderfully high-tech. Though that was kind of hard to tell at moment since the room looked empty. But, since Maya told him it was a training facility, there absolutely HAD to be more than met the eye in this entire space. The wordsmith was in heaven at the possibilities. Mutants were probably brought down here all the time to train and hone their powers! The things that room must have seen…
“Woooow…” Akshay grinned as he slowly walked into the room in complete and utter marvel. “I…I…gah!” he grinned as he bounced around. “This is so AWESOME!! PLEASE SAY WE CAN TRY IT OUT!”

>> "Oh my…Such a pretty werewolf indeed. Nice picture."
Akshay beamed proudly. He really was head over heels for Emerald. She was sweet, funny, gorgeous, strong and powerful, and best of all, she tolerated the insanity that made up the core of what Akshay was; a comic nerd. Emerald had even seen the costumes he had to wear for work all the time and she didn’t poke or make fun of him (well, not a lot anyways). It was safe to say that Akshay was very happy with Emerald and it seemed as if Emerald was just as happy with him.
Why, even look at the expression on Maya’s face! It was completely blank and void of all emotion, but that didn’t mean that Akshay could not sense the emotion behind her words. She must have been really happy too.
Happiness for everyone!
He sighed as he took the phone back, flipped it back into its sleep mode and shoved it back into his pocket. With all the paperwork done, he had hoped that it was time to continue with the tour. He really wanted to see more of this place…
>> "So, ready for your tour around the Mansion? First stop: Danger Room."
Eyes wide and sparkling, Akshay beamed at the sound of that. It sounded totally wicked! And while his mind conjured all sorts of fantasies as to what such a room could entail, he did not get overly excited. Instead, the young wordsmith kept his composure, nodded firmly in response.
“That…sounds awesome,” he beamed. “Lead the way, maestro.” he grinned and followed wherever she would lead. “Tell me, though, why is it called…’Danger Room’?”

>> "Werewolf? Do tell. That mutation is pretty rare..."
Akshay tilted his head. It seemed that his admission that he had a girlfriend had caused the badass mutant to come to a stop in her filing. She had turned to him with a curious expression and Akshay had to wonder why? Maybe she thought he was making it up? After all, who would admit to having a werewolf girlfriend? She probably thought that he had made the whole thing up or was on something and was just saying it to get attention.
Little did she know that it was the truth. And he could even prove it! That should hopefully show her that he was not some lying spaz or something.
“Oh yeah, so she has told me,” he beamed. “Actually quite a few months ago. She was working out in the park and…I was smitten,” he beamed. “She’s tough most of the time, but she can be such a sweetheart.”
He sighed a bit happily. He really was falling for Emerald deeply. He didn’t think he would have ever found the right woman, especially one who would tolerate is dilerrium for comic books and that entire nerd culture. It seemed, for awhile there, like it was too much to ask. But, Emerald was slowly turning out to actually tolerate him! Maybe even like a lot of the things that he was into! She was definitely a keeper.
“Wanna see her?” he grinned as he fished out his cell phone. A tap of the touch screen and his open woke up, showing the home screen. There, he turned it around to show Maya: it was a picture of him and Emerald, standing in his kitchen, faces dotted over with pancake mix and big, silly grins that only occur after a BIG laugh was shared. “That’s her! Her name’s Emerald. Excuse the mess. She was the one that started the food fight.” he beamed happily.

>> "Freaking exhausted, but glad I'm with someone I care about, rather than being alone in that cave all by myself…I'm probably going to fall asleep soon, you know that right? Because these pain pills are going to probably knock me out, I will say I can't be held responsible for anything I do while I'm on these."
“Duly noted,” Akshay replied with a chuckle.
He smirked as Emerald snuggled up closer to him, after she took her painkillers, and yawned into her blanket. It was obvious that she had been through far more than she was normally up to. The shifting, the pain from her predicament, the hospital visit, Akshay was sure that all of it had been a massive drain on his girlfriend. He was at least thankful that he was able to help out. Though, he still did feel bad. He initially ignored her phone call, well, not ignore, he felt the phone vibrate but he didn’t know it was her. What if he had not checked his phone when he did? Emerald…well…she could very well just not be here right now.
He sighed as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and very soothing rubbed her arm as he rested back against the comfort of his couch. He had to admit, his eyes were definitely starting to get heavy but he wanted to stay away as long as possible.
Before he even realized it, Emerald was passed out, sleeping soundly as she hugged him tightly to her. It was not uncomfortable or enough to break bones or anything. It was comforting, like the hug that two people in a relationship should give one another. But even as he began to drift off to sleep, Akshay could not help but smile at the tiny sounds that came from Emerald’s lips as she slept. Though she would never admit it, she definitely sounded adorable.
Gently he reached over and tucked more hair out from her eyes and made sure that she was really passed out. She needed her rest after everything that she had gone through. But as he tucked her hair away, he sighed when he caught sight of that wound again. That tip of her ear that missing. She always tended to hide it and, though Akshay had caught sight of it more than a few times, he had never asked her about it. He had no idea where such a wound could have come from but he did not want to pry. Instead, as he sat there, eyeing the wound, Akshay pressed his lips to his index finger and very gently pressed it against her ear.
Maybe, one day, she’d tell him. But at this time she needed to sleep and he needed to take care of her. Eyes blinking, head drooping, Akshay finally succumbed as he sat back against his couch and let Emerald cuddling up as close as she wanted. Softly he ran his fingers across her shoulder, in a soothing gesture, but the speed decreased more and more until finally it stopped all together. With that, Akshay’s head drooped until finally, he too had passed out.

The look on Maya’s face was actually a little priceless. Akshay couldn’t believe that she actually seemed to be a little impressed with his power. It seemed that most mutants thought his powers were a little lame; except for Emerald of course. No, even though he had kept his powers from her for a long time, she was still a little impressed with them. He had to be thankful that he had found an angel like her when he did. Who knows who else he may have ended up with or if he would have had to have been hiding his powers for longer.
But…that was way off point. He was not here for validation of his own abilities, he was here for inspiration! So he beamed when Maya had shaken off her surprise and turned her full attention back to him.
>> "I can imagine that…But on the plus side, you are probably the only guy at a comic book convention who comes with his own subtitles."
Akshay smirked and chuckled. “You’d be surprised.” Unfortunately the young wordsmith had been to plenty of conventions where he saw several nerds in costume carrying around their own speech bubbles. Needless to say, that made his mutation much hard to control because pretty much everyone was carrying around double sets of words. That was a migraine!
>> "You know, that is nothing to be shy about. One thing one learns really quick on this theme is that there is no useless mutation. I'd say creativity in your case shouldn't be a problem either."
“Hah, well, that is true,” Akshay said with a shy nod. It was true that he had creativity in abundance. After all, look at the sickening amount of costumes he own and his perchance for getting into skits for his job? It seemed like creativity was a given. But even the creative can eventually fall into a slump. He sighed though as he looked about. “You know, everyone is so nice here. I really should tell my girlfriend about this place. She needs some control with her powers too.”
Akshay then decided that it was best to mime Emerald’s powers by curling his fingers into claws and gnashed his teeth at least once. When all that earned from Maya was a confused stare, Akshay returned to his normal posture and shrugged.

>> "Yes, brother... I shall!"
Akshay cringed PULSATE MARVELLED at the sight of the slugs children being placed onto the bare skin of the two guards that he just dazed with his dazzling display of words in the heat of battle. He stood over them, grinning wide at his own prowess as he waiting for the enlightenment of the slime to open their eyes to the world. Hands on his hips, he grinned as he looked up between the large slugs and his two sisters.
Soon, their family would indeed grow even bigger.
>> "Join the good fight, brothers..."
The guards blinked their eyes as they slowly began to rise onto their feet. As they did, the slugs on the backs of their necks pulsating and fed them information on who to trust, who was their master, and what the cause was that they had just joined. But most of all, the message was to be happy and proud to be in the situation that they were in. Akshay grinned as he saw the familiar looks in their eyes.
“Yeeesss! Yesssssssssh!” one of the slugs said as it slithered forward.
“Masters!” One of the guards said enthusiastically as he bowed to him.
“It is an honor!” replied the other.
Both of their faces were slathered with slime and they beamed absolutely proudly about it! Even though it may have tasted like complete and utter shi—PULSATE rainbows wrapped in unicorns and dipped in chocolate gold!
Akshay smirked as he stepped forward and slapped them both on the shoulders.
“Come, brothers!” he said with a nod. “You have just joined the army! Let us prepare others for induction!” With that, Akshay once again took the lead as he and both guards checked for more people in the building, and therefore, others that could be added to the army.

LOL *has an idea* Akshay could be coming home from the midnight showing of Action Squad Zero. He could either be in costume or just geeked out in comic shirt, jacket, and jeans. He would definitely be coming home late from that.

It seemed that Emerald was in a rush to get out of that hospital. Akshay was most surprised that she didn’t fight him on any of the rules that he had thrown down for her. Normally she fought him whenever he tried to take care of her, but maybe she was just too damn tired from the evening to really want to fight anymore about any of this. After all, she had gone through quite the ordeal so it stands to reason that she would want to avoid further, unnecessary fighting.
So, as soon as she changed, the pair of them had left the awful smelling hospital behind and stepped back out into the world. He had a wolf-girl to take care of and an apartment that was about to be invaded.
***
The ride through the streets of New York had been far easier now that Emerald was actually holding onto him herself. Strapping her to him with his belt was risky, but it was necessary in order to keep the woman alive and get her to a hospital as soon as possible. But this was much easier. Now with Emerald conscious and with some of her strength back, it was a far easier trek to make.
Weaving in and out of the streets, Akshay Malik returned to his own, meager apartment building. He building was pretty nondescript, red brick and easily could be lost in the multitude of other buildings that took over the city. But to Akshay, it was his home and the one place that he absolutely loved to be aside from his comic store.
After he had parked in his usual spot and helped Emerald up the stairs to his 3rd floor apartment, Akshay unlocked the door and allowed her to walk in first.
Now, this was not the first time that Emerald had ever been into his apartment. Many times she had come over but never for an extended stay. There were times where they fell asleep in front of the TV or such, but those were so rare that they didn’t count. This was going to be different though. She was going to be in his space for a least a few days while she recovered. And while Akshay had no problem with that, he hoped that Emerald was going to be okay with the switch.
Thank god she was already used to his place.
Opening the door lead into the living room. The living room was probably most telling part of his personality. Signed movie posters and comic art work hung on the walls, bookcases lined one side which held various graphic novels, comic books, and companion books to various TV show, movies, and video games. Against one wall, between a pair of these heavily laden bookshelves, was a flat screen TV (of modest size) on the wall, with a small desk underneath it. Atop that say his PlayBox 180, blu-ray DVD player, and other electronics that seemed far too complicated, yet looked increasingly cool.
A large window overlooked the street and in front of his window was Akshay’s drawing table. A small plastic shelf next to it looked to be covered with ink wells, cups of drawing pencils, ream upon reams of paper, and various drawings tapped up on the walls surrounding the window. This was obviously the haven of a comic book fan and artist…
Stepping into the room after Emerald, Akshay tossed his backpack into the corner, after he fished out Emerald’s prescription, and closed and locked the door behind him. He chuckled as Emerald flopped herself down on his couch, which faced the TV and pulled up the blankets he always left on the back of it.
>> "So you are going to take care of my injured self?"
He smirked as he wandered into the kitchen to grab a glass. The kitchen was probably the most normal part of his apartment. It was plan, white, a combination of linoleum tiled floor and cool, faux-marble countertops. He pulled a glass from the cupboard, flipped on the cold water faucet and returned to Emerald. Both glass of water and painkiller was held out for Emerald to take.
>> "What do you want to do to make this injured, helpless ,young woman well again?"
“Anything that she asks,” he said sweetly. “So long as it’s within reason and doesn’t result in her butt leaving that sofa until she is well again.” A playful smirk on his lips, he scooted next to her on the sofa and sighed as he shook his head and tucked some of her red hair behind her ear. “How are you feeling?”

>> ”Sure boss.”
Akshay paused as he looked off to the side, trying not to squee again. This really was exciting but at the same time, absolutely terrifying. He didn’t understand why he was still here when his shot was only supposed to be for one time. But he was not going to argue with the twist of fate. Maybe the photographer liked him! Or maybe he was just using him to torture Riley? Either was possible. And normally while the young wordsmith would have taken offense to being used in such a manner…it was Riley Sommers!
Still, he really did have to feel bad for her. Here she was, an absolutely beauty like her, having to pose for pictures with a bunch of nerds and freaks like himself. She must have really been dedicated to her job, or maybe the money was just that good. Maybe he could do something nice for her? Buy her a present or something, for having to put up with someone like him all day. Obvious that was not was she signed up fo—
Her hand is on my thigh!!
Akshay stiffened up…his posture…accidentally at the sudden touch. Not even in his wildest dreams had he ever imagined that something like this would ever happen to him. But, considering that this was still part of the photo shoot, he quickly reclaimed his more heroic posture and tried to loosen up a bit. Trident stamped into the ground, the expression of a conquering hero, and the gorgeous woman at his heels, Akshay looked every part the Atlantean.
>> “That’ll do.”
Off the camera went again, snapping shot after shot until finally it seemed as if the cameraman had gotten everything he needed from this positioning. When he was finally done, he stood up, regarded the two of them and smirked still all the more. When he was done he simply shouted.
“Break for lunch!!”
Akshay loosened up and sighed. Thank god it was over!
“Akleem…” the photographer suddenly said, just as Akshay was beginning to move away from Riley. “Stick around.”
His mind going blank for a second, the young wordsmith tried to process what he was told. Why was he being told to “stick around”? Wasn’t his shoot over? There was like a gaggle of people in costumes, all waiting for their shot with Riley Sommer’s Cat Lady. Akshay should have been done for awhile now.
“Excuse me?” Akshay whimpered.
The cameraman merely shrugged as a funny twinkle filled his eye as he eyed the boy. “Stay. For. Lunch.” And with that, he turned to leave.
Akshay, still a little at a loss, glanced again to Riley where me muttered a shy and slightly intimidated “hi.”
