The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The rings were passed to the boys, and these were eagerly recieved. Unsurprisingly, Chase cracked the lid of the box open to glimpse at the ring. It was sparkly, very sparkly. Toby appraised it, too, and the lid was carefully shut once again. They didn't want to be the ones responsible for misplacing the ring. Papa and Mama were having a... well... Papa-and-Mama conversation in the front seat, about weddings and marraiges and all that they needed. Lovey-dovey stuff.
The boys were still at the age where that kind of thing was... kind-of gross. Toby cast a sidelong glance at his twin, his mouth forming a line and a wrinkle touching the bridge of his nose. Chase stuck-out his tongue, squinting his eyes. Eeewww, lovey-dovey stuff. But they both had smiling eyes. It was nice to have a Papa and Mama that really wanted to be together. A family. So after exchanging their teasing expressions, the two of them glanced out the window, letting Papa and Mama do Papa-and-Mama things, like kiss each others' hands and stuff.
Both boys smiled at Gemma, Chase's smile was an all-out grin while Toby's smile was far more subdued.
"We're good," Toby confirmed.
"I'm super excited," Chase agreed.
>> "I didn't have time to ask before, but we might need you two to help us out with the rings..."
>> ”That’s right, buddies. We’re making you bonafide ring bearers. But don’t worry, you won’t have to throw the rings in a volcano.”
Chase snickered at that, "But that would be the best part! Next to maybe eating as much as a hobbit."
Toby looked mildly concerned, his gaze cutting towards his doppelganger. So maybe Chase's twin from the other side still had some acculturation to do. Chase exchanged a glance with his brother, confidently reassuring his mother, "We've totally got it covered, Mama."
Chase then went about whispering to his brother, explaining the fiery demises of rings in certain fictitious universes. Toby nodded almost imperceptibly, an intense concentration in his eyes. This of course led to conversations about where the nearest active volcanoes might be, which Chase assumed to be Hawaii, and the possibility of setting things that weren't meant to be burnt aflame, via volcano, lighter, or perhaps microwave. Chase had introduced his brother to ViewTube, and one of their favorite shows was one where a trio of gentlemen stuck all manners of items in microwaves, none of which should actually have been stuck in said devices.
Perhaps it was a good thing that Papa's mutation was water-magic.

"I'm adventuring," Chase answered simply, "It's raining, so no one's really out here. Perfect for adventuring."
Luke asked the golden question, and Chase's smirk stretched into an all-out grin. If there was anything he loved more than mischief, it was showing-off. He stuck-out a calloused hand, palm-up towards Luke.
"I can show ya," Chase said simply, "It's my power. Got a personal item I could borrow?"
Chase could still show-off even if Luke refused... but Chase liked the "wow" factor that object-based shifting had. People tended to react more strongly to staring down their doppelganger, than to changing-color hair or shifting voices. His hand remained outstretched, waiting.

Chase grinned when he heard footfalls behind him, and his pace quickened. He always loved a game of tag, or hide-and-seek, or whatever you called this. Being a brat to big kids? That was probably a more fitting name, but it was a little too long. Chase put his "sword" in his mouth, and quickly shimmied up a tree. It was no easy task, being that Chase was soaked and rain was still falling up above, but he managed to retreat a few branches up before Luke the Wolf-Man came into the clearing.
>> "Hey! Hey, I'm not mad! Honest!"
"Your Mom's not mad!" Chase retorted from the branch, in classic, thirteen-year-old form. From his spot on the branch, Chase was taller than Luke. He grinned at the older boy, leaning forward with an impish look in his eyes.
"I'm Chase," the human shifter repeated, "And my brother's Toby, but he's not here. He's in class."
Chase stood up on the branch, grabbing the next branch up to steady himself.
"You must really wanna talk to me, running after me like that," the human-shifter observed, walking carefully towards the thinner part of the branch. He kept his arm folded over the next branch up, lest he accidentally slip. He turned, and began walking back.
"Why do ya wanna talk to me?" the boy continued, looking down at Luke, "Most of the older kids won't give me the time of day. Unless you're not an older kid."
He sank back down into a sitting position, kicking his legs.

Marisol laughed at the proclamation, which quelled Chase's eagerness only slightly. He didn't really understand what she was laughing about, but it still earned the puffed cheeks of disapproval. He even furrowed his brow a little. Was she going to veto it?
>> "Okay then, you two. I guess Pop Subject it is, then! Though I get final say on if something is appropriate or not for you to buy."
Chase nodded, blowing the air from his puffed cheeks, "O-kay!"
So what were they waiting for!? It was time to go shopping! Chase took the lead, striding confidently through the double doors and down the first main avenue of shops. He knew the mall well, better than Toby anyways (and maybe better than Mari, since he'd been living there longer)... and he was happy to show the way. He felt when he crossed the threshold of Mari's aura, becuase his tendrils snapped into place like a tensed muscle, quickly drawing the human guise up over his features. Niiiice.
Toby, decidedly less self-conscious about how he looked (and also less adept at free-form shifting), remained well within Mari's aura, only a foot or two ahead of her. He kept a careful gaze pointed outwards, watching Chase, but also watching the crowds that churned around them. He knew a good many SUPER operatives, and would lunge into action if entirely necessary.
>> "So Toby, have any hopes to find something exciting to wear? Cool? Handsome? Cute?"
It was hard to watch their surroundings while also conversing. But Toby's ettiquette lessons taught him that it was rude to ignore people you knew... and really only socially acceptable to ignore rude people... and Marisol was just being nice. Toby glanced at Marisol with a gaze that lingered in the neighborhood of an uncertain yellow.
"Not really," he replied, "I don't really want to spend Mama's money. It feels weird."
Currency was a foreign concept to him. He'd never used or interacted with money when he'd worked for SUPER. But he understood that sometimes people had bounties placed on them, and that operatives would get money for those bounties. Money was earned. Not shared. And Mama had shared her money.
Maybe that was a weird thing to say, though! Toby felt himself quickly becoming self-conscious. He was taking the etiquette classes so that he could be more like a normal thirteen-year-old, and here he was, saying weird things.
"I-if I had to spend it, though, I'd probably get something... cool!" he said quickly. Chase said that word a lot-- "cool"-- so it had to be a good thing. Toby quickly glanced after Chase, and saw that he was climbing onto an escalator to head upstairs.
"You guys are slowpokes!" the more audacious human-shifter hollered from the ascending staircase, cupping his hands around his mouth, "I'm gonna win the race!"
Whether or not he had announced that this was a "race" in the first place was besides the point. The point was that he was winning!
"Window seat," Toby insisted quietly, as the family of four approached the sedan. Well within Gemma's aura, the boys walked arm-in-arm-- Chase's arm straight, and Toby's arm hooked securely under his doppelganger's. The twins liked being lose to one another-- and, so long as their mutation wasn't active, neither of them minded the proximity.
"Sure," Chase agreed. Toby had explained his rationale earlier, when Chase had complained that he couldn't see out the window as well from the middle seat-- something about "the middle seat being the safest" and how Toby "felt better equipped to handle possible attacks from beyond". Chase didn't suspect that sort of thing to ever happen... but, as the genetic residue from Toby's old uniform suggested, Toby had lived a much more difficult life than Chase... so Chase was quick to yield.
The boys unfastened themselves from one another to get into the car-- Toby got the door, Chase slid in, Toby followed, the door was shut.
>> "Alright guys, seat belts."
Toby nodded.
"Aye aye, Captain," Chase said brightly.
Both did as they were told. Uncomfortable suits aside, Chase was excited. Mama and Papa were officially going to be "Mama" and "Papa". They'd be a real family! Not that they weren't already a "real family"... Chase had been calling Jorge "Papa" for years... but... now they'd be a married Mama and Papa, and that made some degree of difference.
Toby, meanwhile, didn't really get it. But if his brother was excited, he'd go along with it. Toby quirked a smile at Chase's bright declaration, assuming the expression to be appropriate. He rehooked his arm under Chase's, and leaned against his shoulder.
Chase leaned over to whisper to Toby as Jorge went over the game-plan.
"Usually weddings happen in churches, but Mama and Papa want a more top-secret wedding... so they're skipping straight to city hall for their marriage license," Chase explained. He felt very grown-up for knowing this information, but only because Mama had explained it to him a good three times or so.
"Ah, so it's a more covert operation," Toby murmured, distinctly more audible.

The wolfman drew closer, confirming that he did indeed have a tail. Chase's eyes became dominated by a curious pink, and a grin broke out on his face, "Neat!!”
The next, obvious step was to ask for a personal belonging of Luke's and to go traipsing around the woods as a wolfman, but Luke was quicker with his line of questioning.
>> "What's your name? ... Wait, aren't you the water balloon kid?"
Hmph. Chase puffed his cheeks out at the question. So Luke the Fun-Sucker did remember. So much for that possible avenue of friendship. He'd probably never lend anything to Chase now.
"M-Maybe..." Chase said vaguely, squinting his eyes again. With that, the child turned away, and began marching back off into the trees. Any inkling of the intrigued pink in his eyes had been replaced by a churlish orange, here-and-there flecked an aloof yellow-orange. He was thirteen and didn't have time to let people judge him.
>> "You're lucky I don't hold grudges."
--Luke said to Chase's back.
"Not my fault that the explode-y girl sat in the dropzone," Chase called back. He was a little sh**, unapologetically so, that much was certain. He was an absolutely waterlogged little sh**, though, with a hoodie, t-shirt, and cargo shorts that clung to his miserable frame from being saturated with rain. He was much too stubborn to go inside, though.
”I'm Chase, by the way," the troublemaker remarked as they slipped out of sight through the trees.

It took Chase a moment to register the mutant who stood in front of him. He looked like a werewolf... or, at least, how Chase imagined a werewolf to look. They were super tall, and looked liek a wolf, but they stood on their hinds legs. It was about then that Chase realized the alarm on his face.
>> "Hey, sorry. Didn't think anyone else was out here."
Chase's mouth formed a hard line, and his expression became scrutinizing. He knew this guy. This guy was one of the fun-suckers who got him and Toby in trouble over the water balloons. He'd been in his natural face then, though. Now he was in his human-face...
>> "Hi there. I'm Luke. Uh...whatcha doing out here?"
... and it seemed like the wolf-guy, Luke, didn't recognize him.
"I'm adventuring," Chase said plainly. He did not add the part about pretending to be a feral child, because thirteen was a little too old for playing pretend. Up above, the torrential downpour did not let up, "My brother is busy, so I'm doing stuff 'til he isn't busy."
He surveyed the taller, lupine boy, sizing him up.
"...do you have a tail?" Chase demanded suddenly, his attention turning on a dime. If there was one thing that one couldn't outgrow, it was a shapeshifter's delight in other physical mutants. It also wasn't something Chase had made note of in their first meeting, and was thus imperative to ask.

A few times a week, for a few hours each time, a Mansion staffer would borrow Tobias and leave Chase to his own devices. Sure, Chase had been alone plenty of times before Tobias had been brought to this dimension, but now that Chase had constant company, it was something he had grown to enjoy. As such, he kind-of dreaded these few hours he sometimes spent alone.
"You really aren't missing anything," Toby had assured his brother, "They're just teaching me how... a normal person our age acts... or... something."
Chase had loudly proclaimed how stupid he thought that was, how Toby had seemed just fine to him. But still, the adults insisted. And Toby was more than happy to oblige.
"I wanna fit-in, Chase."
Chase exhaled sharply, brandishing a large stick at invisible foes as he marched through the woods. The woods had been his favorite spot on-campus since he first came to the Mansion years prior. Not a lot of other kids ventured this way and, if they did, they were usually up to no good. It was the perfect place to play-pretend and wile away the hours.
Right now, he was pretending to be a wild child, pretending that he'd been abandoned by human society and had become feral. (He'd read about feral children in a library book.) It was pouring rain outside, but the thick canopy of trees managed to keep most of it out. Chase sprinted, leapt, and with both feet lunged into a puddle, which exploded around him and soaked his pants up past the knees. An absurd laugh broke out of him.
The sound of footfalls in the trees snagged his attention, and Chase brought his large stick up in front of him, as if it were a sword.

The water balloons sailed, the girl looked upward as though sensing her impending doom, and *POW!* bullseye! A peal of laughter burbled out from Chase, whose current guise was that of a freckled, redheaded girl. Toby, whose face was that of a younger, mechanical young woman, also could not contain the smile that broke across their face.
"We got youuuu~" Janelle/Chase sang, his voice a singsong soprano, beaming at the sputtering girl. Her hair was doing this color-shiftng t hing, and suddenly, *BANG!* there was an explosion of light. Screams of alarm responded from up in the trees, but once the two shapeshifting troublemakers realized they weren't in any immediate danger, the screams were replaced by more peals of laughter, spots dancing in the eyes of the presently-mismatched twins.
"Let's get outta here," Glitch/Toby said quickly, a smile still on their face. Other people had been caught in the explosion of light, and if they didn't want to get in trouble, they had to be quick.
Expertly, the two slid from branch-to-branch and, in the last ten feet before the ground, the two shapeshifters jumped. From the ground-level, they got a better look at the bystanders... a dog-dude and curlyheaded kid, neither of whom the shapeshifters were familiar with.
"We'd love to stay and talk, but-" Glitch/Toby began.
"-our job here is done," Janelle/Chase concluded. And the two bolted haphazardly towards the Mansion, over the green, casting glances over their shoulders. If anyone dared to follow, they'd have to chase the two rabble-rousers. The plan was simple-- get inside, ditch the disguises, and cackle about the mischief later.
>> "Hey you two! Don't forget to stay a few feet away!"
Chase paused, glancing at Toby. The two would, at this point, be indistinguishable. The former had lended a ball cap to the latter, which meant that Toby was currently pretending to be Chase, and therefore identical.
"Mari's an Adapted, like Mama," Chase explained, "She'd drop our human faces in a heartbeat."
Toby's lips thinned, but he said nothing.
>> "I'm ready! But it's your trip. Do you know what kind nof shop you want to hit first?"
Toby shook his head wordlessly.
"Pop Subject!" Chase proclaimed, over-eager.
Pop Subject only had the had the coolest, edgiest clothes available, complete with plenty of pop culture tees to choose from. They probably had some really cool skirts to choose from, too.
"I'm okay with Pop Subject," Toby agreed. Mari would, of course, make the final verdict, since she was the eldest and their chaperone.

The weather barely glanced fifty degrees fahrenheit, and a persistent blanket of clouds blotted-out the sun. This did nothing to dissuade the Mansions' students from venturing outside, however, as this was the first not-rainy day in a long time. There were children on the basketball court, frolicking on the green, and enjoying the gap in rain that the weather had given them.
And, if one looked closely enough, they might even spot two boys crouched amongst the branches of a pine tree, squinting towards the ground.
"I don't think anyone's coming," Toby murmured, glancing towards his brother, "Even if they did, what if they walk on the wrong side of the tree?"
"Be patient!" Chase hissed, "I thought you used to be a spy, isn't part of being a spy about sting operations and junk?"
Toby looked flatly at his brother, "Well... yeah... but usually it's somewhere where you know the person will be. You don't just... sit in a ranom tree and hope someone comes by."
"Sh!"
Someone was coming. Chase's fingers flexed around his water balloon, which was clasped between both of his hands. He nodded to his brother, tilting his chin in the direction of their target. They were coming closer... oh man, they were practically underneath them! Just a little closer... and... go!
The fat water balloons were released, plummeting towards the ground below. Like any adept troublemaking-shapeshifters, both boys had borrowed belongings from fellow students, and thus wore faces that were not their own.

The school bus came to a stop outside of the shopping mall, and instantly the bus was brimming with energy. It was one of those day trips that the Mansion often took, so that the students and inhabitants had a chance to get the supplies. Chase kicked his legs excitedly, elbowing Toby lightly as they stopped.
"You ever been to a mall?" Chase asked his twin.
Toby, formerly Delta Seven, pried his eyes from the window and glanced at Chase.
"Once or twice," he murmured.
But never for shopping. It was almost always for tailing mutants to bag and tag.
Both boys had crisp twenty dollar bills in their pockets, which they had earned by doing chores for Mama and Papa, and were eager to spend them.
They waited for the crowd of students to disembark, then filed off, joining the crowd.
"Alright, ladies and gents," one of the chaperones declared, "We will meet at the food court at one, which gives you three hours, to start."
Chase grinned at his brother, bobbling with excitement.
"Remember to be on your best behavior, and to stay with your groups!"
Chase smiled, skimming the crowd for his cousin. They'd totally lucked out in the chaperone department. Younger students were either paired with adults or with older students... And they'd gotten Mari to volunteer as a chaperone! This would be so cool! If they could find her, that is. Toby wrapped his sleeve-clad arms around his brother's, not wanting to risk getting separated. Ah, there she was! In their excitement, they'd nearly left her behind.
"Mari!" Chase called-out, pulling Toby along, all smiles. The best thing about today was that he was gonna use his money to get new clothes... Cute ones! Like a skirt, at least, "Are you ready?"

Note: Until the end of the Ripples in Time plot, Delta 7/Tobias will continue to be my player-character. He is, however, free to use in any NPC situation, if you need him prior to the end of the plot. ^-^ This note will be removed after the end of the plot.
While Chase has both a "natural" and "human" form, Toby is much less self-conscious about his neutral state, and therefore almost exclusively wears his natural skin around (much to the chagrin of his twin). In his former life as a SUPER operative, disguises were used to hunt other mutants, so Toby doesn't like to.
While Chase keeps his hair shaggy, Toby's hair is short from being shaved-- he will likely grow his hair out over time. His skin is an ugly greyish-brown with noticeable rope-like texture. His eye color is variable based-on mood. Black sclera, neutral iris is white. Toby is more muscular and lean than Chase, though he will likely pack-on weight since food is freely available to him (unlike when he was in SUPER's custody). He and Chase are the same height. His tongue is blue. His body is riddled with scars from his life as a SUPER operative. The most prominent is a scar on his shoulder, from where his tracker used to be. Toby's face is more shrewd, and perhaps more adult-like, than Chase's. His ears and teeth still seem too big for his head. He mostly just wears Chase's clothes.
Character
Personality: Toby is much quieter, and much more reserved, than his brother. While Chase can be impish and winsome, Toby is more churlish, combative and pragmatic. He has an innate mistrust of adults, though he's steadily warming up to Mama and Papa, and his serious nature sometimes make it hard for him to relate to other kids. Toby really does try, though.
He has some odd tendencies-- scarfing down his food at meal-time, stockpiling food/supplies, hiding his possessions, and possibly resorting to violence in situations where violence may not be needed, etc.-- acquired from his time as a SUPER operative. He also has the occasional outburst (angry, fearful, or sad) becasue he gets easily frustrated. SUPER never really taught him "right" from "wrong", nor did they teach him how to articulate his emotions, so it can sometimes be like dealing with a little kid in a teen's body.
Toby and Chase share a room. Hopefully, through his work with Chase, with Gemma, and with anyone patient enough to help, he'll be able to integrate with the other kiddos at Xavier's.
Job and Description: Student at Xavier's. Sort of.
Mutations
Mutation Description: Human-shifter, just like Chase. Capable of object-based shifts (reading genetic material from personal belongings, which provides Toby with information/ object-based-memories in order to help him make a more convincing person) and free-form shifts (strictly feature-based). Toby is much more adapt at object-based shifts, and not very good at free-form shifts, because SUPER used the object-based shapeshifting ability more frequently. He never needed to "create a form" from scratch, so he's not as good at that. This may also be why he doesn't have a "human form". Please be advised-- object-based shifting makes Toby very averted to being touched, just like Chase, so any attempt at getting touchy-feely would be poorly received at best.
