The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kyle watched her circle away, that smile still tugging at the corner of his mouth. It was true what she was saying; he was likely one of the few people who knew how she reacted when flirted with. But what she wasn't getting was that the point of his exercise wasn't to show her she could be defeated by flirting; it was to show her that in a fight, you have to be prepared for the unexpected. And when the unexpected arrived...you had to take it in stride and keep your focus on what needed to be done.
"While I will admit I was trying to make it obvious that your quickness to turn red at certain things was something you'll have to overcome, it wasn't the key issue I was bringing up. What I was trying to get across was that in real combat, not the light sparring you're no doubt doing with someone, people will do things unexpected. Unfair. Cheating, you might say. Those that want to survive will do any number of things to ensure their survival and those who wish to cause you harm...well...there are things they'll do that no friendly spar can prepare you for. In short..."
His words faltered quickly as Evelyn, who'd taken the hand he'd offered, suddenly clamped down on it...hard. Pressure point...well..guess she learned something useful. The fact that she had a pressure point what would have been a simple little squeeze into something that actually hurt. Laughing, Kyle endured it, showing on his face that her actions were causing some degree of comfort before squeezing back himself.
"...In short, I was trying to also show you what to expect when you get into a "real" fight. Nice grip by the way...I guess they didn't waste "all" your time here."
Evelyn's reaction to his move was....amusing, to say the least. It was also highly expected, considering her earlier reactions. Kyle didn't think she'd switch gears and learn that quickly, so he simply watched with amusement as she stumbled over herself, trying to make sense of what he'd just done. It was only a slight smile that edged its way across his features...slight. Shrugging, Kyle folded his arms and waited silently while she spoke...before lunging and putting his elbow within inches of her windpipe, his face deathly serious.
"I can and I did. Why? To prove my point. There are no "rules" in a real fight, no real agreement between two parties about how to conduct a battle. The only rule, out there in the real world, in the fights that matter...is surviving. And doing anything to survive. If I were someone truly trying to kill you Evelyn, the minute you faltered over that slap on your ass...you would have been dead.
He let that sink in, the weight of his words falling on her before he slowly eased off, a little of the cold aura that had suddenly sprang up fading. "If by being a jerk, I teach you something that could save your life, I'll be the biggest jerk on the planet." Calmly, he offered his hand to her. "That lesson aside, are you alright?"
Good mused Kyle silently to himself. She's finally catching on. His counter blow had caught her completely unaware, and coupled with her awkward stance, had almost put her squarely on her behind. Whether by dumb luck or some semblance of skill, Evelyn managed to find her footing rather than give the ground a kiss from her behind. It was a good recovery, especially since Kyle was not pressing his attack.
Rather than speak at first, however, Evelyn suddenly lunged again, dropping her shoulder for an apparent shoulder tackle. Kyle was just about to brace for it when he noticed just how low her elbow had dropped. A grin slid across his features as his arms came up, bracing his own stance before sidestepping her charge. Using his arms, he aimed to give her a hard push that would use her own momentum against her, aiming to sending her stumbling again...just as he gave her a smack on the behind at the same time.
His actions would no doubt surprise, embarrass and anger her, but that was expected. Humility was a good teacher and as Kyle was showing her, hard knocks got the lesson across much more definitively. "Life rarely is fair...and fights even less so. If you want to learn how to survive a fight, one can't hold your hand to do it. Again."
Kyle all but smiled when he saw Evelyn's response to his actions. Though she was not showing it much, he could tell from the slight contours of her face that his words had struck a cord. And that was what he'd been hoping for; galling her into action. He, of course, had been ready from the moment he'd shoved her, slipping into a loose stance that showed little but could shift into much. It was his preferred stance for testing...it let him be unpredictable.
Which is what he was when he responded to Evelyn's attacks. Her elbow was a good move, one he countered by stepping a couple of steps back and redirecting the elbow with a shove of his hand. The sweep was a good follow-up and had he stuck to his words, he would have either jumped or dodged back to avoid it. He did neither. Instead, he braced himself by squatting slightly, taking the sweep full on into the meat of his leg. It stung a bit but he'd long learned to push such pain aside.
Kyle gave her no chance to recover from the move; he darted forward again and gave her another quick shove to the chest before establishing the distance between them, smiling. "I forgot to mention; choose your moves wisely. If you give me an opening, I will exploit it. Again."
The call signs don't always reflect their powers. On a note, Cancer is fear, because I ripped a bit from Knights of the Zodiac for him; the Cancer knight dealt with the world of the dead. So I made Cancer someone who deals with peoples fears to reflect that.
To answer your question about the Gemini, your powers are not gone. But they alter the ability to control them; sort of like a 1/10 chance that what you want it to do is what it will do. Also note that the twins have the same power, but different. One can affect someone to a high degree, so 1/10 chance. The other is meant for crowd control of weaker mutants or those with physical mutations; messing with them to keep them from being an overlooked threat. (Also, I never god mod anything...well, intentionally anyway. Accidents have happened.) While I will allow people to make use of them as NPCS without me, nothing can be done to them without MY permission and any godmodding with them Ill leave to the mods to handle appropriately.
Aries: Able to transfer injuries to his body to another person via touch. Sustained contact is required to transfer larger injuries.
Personality: Calm and collected, Aries rarely shows any sign of discomfort or that the situation is out of his control He's also one of the few Zodiac members that speaks politely to his foes; despite that, he is utterly remorseless in combat and will easily torture his foes without an inch of compassion.
Libra: Able to implant a parasite onto a target's head that induces violent rages in the person. Through said parasite, he can also "suggest" and guide a person towards a target as an outlet for their rage.
Personality: Insane is easily about the only word that can define the way Libra is. He enjoys making others suffer, to the point where its almost a release for him. Little breaks through this euphoria for him, even being injured in battle. That being said, Libra often works from the shadows, only entering the field of battle when he has sufficient pawns at his disposal.
Gemini Female: Able to target a fellow mutant and make their power go out of control. Only able to affect one target at a time but to a much greater degree. Twin can affect mutants within a certain range, but to a lesser effect.
Personality: The Gemini twins are emotionless. There's nothing else to it; neither twin shows any sign of emotion. They are committed only to the tasks they are given, speaking only when necessary and often in monotone and single syllable words. They have been known to speak one word at a time when they need for form a sentence, one twin speaking one word while the other speaks the next and so on.
Leo: Able to screech at high level frequency's, meant to disorient foes or shatter surroundings depending on the frequency. Stronger matter requires higher and longer frequency's. By building up the screech in his throat beforehand, Leo can fire high frequency blasts; it takes him a short time after before he can use his ability again.
Personality: Like his codename, Leo is a bit on the wild side. His actions are often considered twitchy and he rarely remains still for any substantial period of time. He also tends to disagree with any method that requires him to be passive, for he finds that biding time is wasting time. Like several of his counterparts, he is without compassion in combat and will not hesitate to injure bystanders if they get in his way.
Scorpio: Long index finger nails that, if a wound is created via them, induces massive pain and burning in the wound. Each wound in succession feeds off the previous one, making following wounds hurt much more.
Personality: Sadistic and cruel, Scorpio takes great joy in the torturing and suffering of others. Fitting, considering his ability is almost designed for torture and pain. Scorpio prefers to target those that can give him the greatest high from his hobby, which are those with strength. By bringing them to their knees in pain and agony, Scorpio gets the biggest rush.
Virgo: Able to copy another mutant's power and "infect" a human to imitate both the appearance of a copied mutant and their powers, although to a lesser degree. Mutations ends if the user is rendered unconscious or killed or the afflicted human remains copied for more than a hour. Afflicted human will perish after one hour due to rapid cellular breakdown.
Personality: A through and through genius, Virgo is the de facto leader of the Zodiacs when commanding them in the field. Virgo dresses for style, emits a radiance that many would kill to have...and is the cruelest of the his entire group. With the exception of his comrades, everyone is merely a pawn in the grand chess game that is life for him, pieces of be scarified for the greater good of the game. If he were a normal man, this would not be a great worry; because of his intelligence, however, it is far worse. Virgo often plans several steps ahead, anticipating what orders will come next or what his foes will do and makes several plans in order to counter on the spot. To this end, he often uses his power as a way to test the field or secure the game...and unlike some of the others, Virgo has no qualms being out on the field only after things are firmly in his corner; to his mind, things are ALWAYS in his corner.
Capricorn: Enhanced physical strength within the leg portion of the body. Kicking strength said to be strong enough to dent steel and able to run up to 30 miles per hour in short bursts. Enhanced jumping ability about to three stories and skin density on the feet said to resemble iron.
Personality: A tactical genius, Capricorn is the brain behind the brawn when it comes to combat. Capricorn often makes plans on the fly, taking everything about the current situation into account to utilize his ability and the abilities of his comrades to their fullest. Though he's a bit eccentric and overzealous at times, he is one of the most dangerous of the group for the simple fact that he adapts fast, adjusting for just about any situation within moments.
Pisces: Mutation makes user able to produce plant life from her body, as well as control plant life within a general radius.
Personality: Pisces is by far the most gentle of the Zodiacs, preferring to subvert her foes into giving up to their new order over violence. However, should they resist, Pisces will not hesitate like her comrades to put down her foes. Unlike most of her comrades, however, she seeks to finish her foes as quickly as possible, preferring to end them with as little pain as possible. Outside of that, she is calm and serene, just like the plants she wields.
Cancer: Able to find what a person fears and manifest it into reality; said manifestation remains until the user is knocked out or overcomes their fear of said manifestation. If multiple people are present, is able to mix the fears into a being known as the Jackal, which incorporates the fears into a jackal-like body.
Personality: A twin in terms of sadism to Scorpio, Cancer differs from his comrade in two diverse areas. For one, while Scorpio takes pleasure in the suffering of people from physical agony, Cancer enjoys making them suffer from mental agony. The rush he gets from sensing what another fears and then using it against them is a high that nothing else can replace. Also unlike his counterpart, Cancer enjoys making the weak suffer more than the strong, for there are more of them for him to torture.
Taurus: Massive upper body strength. Punches can easily break through most substances with a single punch, with the exception of metals; items such as steel can be broken through in time. Reduced speed as a trade off; is able to create small quakes from force of impact and pick up large objects with ease.
Personality: The brute of the group, Taurus isn't exactly the brightest bulb on the block. He prefers to handle the tasks and problems he faces head on with his power. That being said, Taurus isn't a complete idiot either; he can adjust to find the most effective way of his using his power to the fullest in a fight and is at his most dangerous when paired with someone who can do the thinking for him. Of the group, he is also the most direct when getting to a point.
Sagittarius: Mutation allows any item thrown to be thrown at a target with uncanny accuracy. Additionally, if the user manages to touch the target with their left hand, any item thrown will seek the target touched until it is physically stopped. The longer the item remains in transit, the greater its speed and force become.
Personality: The Archer is, like Aries, a calm and collected individual. Unlike his counterpart, however, the Archer is capable of showcasing things that catch him by surprise or showing other emotions when things go awry. This allows him to acknowledge that there is an issue and to do his best to circumvent said issue as soon as possible. Because of his ability, the Archer can and is often at his calmest when flinging his weapons, much like a real Archer would take control of himself to fire his weapon.
Aquarius: Control over water; is able to manipulate it extensively so long as there is a source. Is capable of drawing it from the moisture in the air if necessary, although this takes longer for she has to create enough to wield it effectively. - Aquarius.
Personality: Elegant and adventurous, Aquarius is the Ying to Pisces Yang. Unlike her female companion, Aquarius enjoys teasing her enemies, half flirting with them mid combat while doing everything in her power to crush them with her power. Of course, the flirting is intended to be a distraction in order to catch her foes unaware, allowing her to capture them and take her time stealing away their life. Outside that, she varies from two states of mind; quiet as a river or as violate as the ocean.

Alright, so, this has been something I've been musing about within my devious mind for a while now(well, my mind, Alli's mind, Zeph's mind to a degree...credit to them for assisting in my plotting.) Strange things have happened in our little wonderful community, but it dawned on me that the site has, for a while, not had a serious threat that the whole site could get behind. So I plotted and schemed and plotted some more and this is what I came up with.
The idea, as it were, is to have a man, known for now only as the General, to arrive in New York city. The General's purpose? The complete destruction or enslavement of the mutant race; if a mutant cannot be controlled, it needs to be a corpse. To achieve his means, the General has two powerful weapons at his disposal. The first; a small army of loyal followers who believe wholeheartedly in the cause. From those with only a voice as a weapon, to his military trained zealots, the General has soldiers both equipped to handle your average mutant and loyal enough to never question his methods.
But they are only the tip of the iceberg, the cannon fodder that he can replace with more. His true weapon lies in the the twelve elites at his command; the twelve mutants under his command known as the Zodiacs. Taken from young ages, indoctrinated to obey and "implanted" with a belief through another of his allies, these Zodiacs are not only his most loyal soldiers, they are his most powerful. Each alone possesses a power that can bring many a foe to their knees; and they are often paired up. The Zodiacs have one goal that his human followers cannot achieve; to handle mutants of higher quality, the strongest mutant threats out there.
Last but not least, the General has two at his sides at all times; his right hand and left hand "advisers", who are also mutants as well. With all his pieces finally assembled, the General is making a move upon New York and its mutant population as a "test" for his worldwide plan.
Phase 1 and 2 of this plan are simple and are planned to occur at the same time; Phase 1 involves having his human soldiers spreading out and striking at several known mutant gathering points, using the tactics they've been trained to use against the greater mutant populace; at the same time, these events will be "broadcast" as if these soldiers are stopping a mutant attack. Phase 2, on the other hand, is the General's plan to not only prove his strength, but take several serious threats out of the picture. Several mutants of known prestige, as well as several who have been considered a serious threat, will be publicly defeated by the Zodiacs; each has been assigned to a pair of them. For those who do not have targets, they are to assist the human soldiers assaulting the mutant "forts".
The idea is for the site to rally against this threat, although of course, serious losses must take place first. I have already spoken to several key players and as the days pass, I shall toss up the Zodiacs bit by bit. As they arrive, I would love to hear opinions, about them and the plot, as well as anyone who wants to join in on this hopefully chaotic plot.
In the past, Kyle knew he'd had issues with constraint. Recent events and the months that followed had given him time to change that, to become someone better in control of his own actions and behavior. It had made him a much different person in some ways, yet still himself at the core.
It didn't stop him from almost gaping at her question, nor did it quell the smile and laugh that followed. It wasn't a long laugh or a mocking one, but it was a lot more than he'd given her in terms of general amusement. "You don't know why I would show interest? The better question would have been how could I not?
There are many reasons; you're determined, smart, brave to the point of stupidity when it comes to things that matter to you. Let's not forget that you're stunning as well. I could go on, but I believe you get the point." Shaking his head, Kyle rolled his neck, cracking the bone before opting to answer her second thought."Yes, I gathered that, hence my choice of thoughts. Cause I knew it would distract you. Which is what you must learn to put aside."
He could see that the current topic was making her uneasy, so Kyle shifted the conversation to one that might work better. "In any case, you managed it, if even a little. So let's try something else." He darted in suddenly, moving so that he was almost touching her face with his before stopping, a grin across his features. "You try attacking me and predicting how I'll dodge. If you've got the spine for it." To further irk her into trying hopefully, Kyle shoved her back too, with just enough force to startle and sting, but not harm badly.
Enough to make her angry enough to try. Hopefully.
Kyle had to do his best to stop from grinning widly as Evelyn barely managed to dart out of the way of his blow, his fist meeting with empty air as the girl stepped away from him. It had been a close call. His fist had literally been inches from her skin when she suddenly shifted out of the way of his blow, swatting his hand away before giving him the tongue of "missed me". Had Kyle been serious, he would have changed his blow then to a backhand or an elbow. Instead, he merely stepped past her and spun round to face her again.
Letting a small smile crease the corners of his mouth, he relaxed his stance carefully, letting Evelyn speak her mind before returning the favor. "You powers have plenty of potential...if you were able to do what you did now to avoid my blow on demand, you would be invaluable. You could pick out the man with the gun about to fire, the woman with the knife about to go postal, the hidden soldier amongst thousands of faces. Anyone in trouble or combat would love to have you at their side."
Her explanation of her problem made Kyle smile just a little more. If what she said was true, then it meant she was curious about what he was thinking, not her echoes. It was confusing her echoes enough that she couldn't see what he was doing but it also meant she was picking up what he was thinking then. Interesting. Folding his arms across his chest, Kyle continued.
"Then the answer is rather simple, no? You must put aside your personal desire when you have to. Its harder and easier than it sounds. In any case, you managed to dodge a blow intended to harm. That's a good start. It means you're capable of it...now, tell me...what was I thinking and why do you think I used it to shield my actions from you?"
"I'm not putting any faith into your echoes, not completely. I'm putting my faith in you. I believe you'll be able to pull out the potential of your power; you just need a push in the right direction."
Kyle's smile grew just a little as his question brought color to Evelyn's cheeks once again. It might have been a mite bit childish, but Kyle found making Evelyn flush to be an amusing endeavor. It had nothing to do with the fact that it made her look far cuter to him, not in the slightest. And it most certainly didn't make him want to do it more, no sir it didn't. Shrugging his shoulders as a half-chuckle escaped him, Kyle's body shifted slightly to answer her request.
"Heh...why not hazard a guess Evelyn? If you can identify what I'm possibly thinking, then just maybe you can peer back that layer to the truth beneath. Try and discover the answer...because here I come again."
No sooner had her hands reached her side did Kyle spring again, moving with that purpose and speed he'd been showing before, his body over his mind guiding his strikes towards her. As before, his actions were slowed and controlled, aiming to keep her on her toes while avoiding doing any serious damage, to give her time to try and find the answer she needed to counter him. And just like before, he clouded his thoughts with her, hiding his actions beneath that terrible wall.
The mental images of making plays to kiss her had worked to stutter her before, so he employed them again in his mind. But there was an added twist...he spoke while he fought. "Focus Evelyn..blot out the echoes that have no meaning to protecting yourself." An idea came to him then and he moved suddenly to employ it. "Seek the masterpiece of art amongst all the fakes and wannabes...find the one that speaks to you from the heart." He timed his words with possibly the first real attack he'd given in this fight.
A solid, closed fist towards her hip. It would hurt like mad if it hit, but it wouldn't be too serious. If she managed to foresee it coming, that is.
This time, when his blow made contact with her face, Kyle did stop his attack, if only for a moment. While it was true that he was pulling his punches a slight bit to avoid causing any serious damage, the blows themselves would still sting a fair bit if allowed to connect fully. More so if Evelyn happened to dodge into one before Kyle could reduce the force...which, as it happened, she did.
Pausing, Kyle studied her calmly. The blow had been harder than it should have been, what with her moving into it, but there wasn't any serious damage as far as he could tell. He hadn't broken it, nor did it seem to be bleeding. Stepping towards her, he calmly lifted a hand to the one on her nose and moved it aside, just to be sure. He was. Lowering his hand, Kyle stepped back and entered lesson mode.
"You were dodging well there, for a spell. But I'll be honest about one thing Evelyn; there is no such thing as cheating in this world. Stories of honest fights, fair sided tilts...are of the past. People do now what they have to survive. If you plan to train in self-defense, you have to know that everything and anything is fair during combat."
Sighing, Kyle idly rolled little bolts of energy between his fingers, showing them to Evelyn before flicking them harmlessly into the pool. Each shot made ripples where it contacted the water, creating waves as ripples met ripples. "Your echoes are a power that can and will make a difference in a fight Evelyn, just as much as they do in your everyday life. They could be all that stands between the light of life or the cold of death. For you or for those you care about." His tone was firm, yet deceivingly neutral, keeping the surge of pain and memories that came from his mind at bay as she spoke.
"And to make that happen, I have to fight unfair. Now...you're as clever as you are stunning. Tell me; what am I doing while I'm striking at you? What do your echoes tell you?"
It didn't come as a surprise to him that Evelyn managed to dodge his strike; it had been half-hearted with the intention of testing her reaction time. Still, even though the dodge was sloppy, the fact that she attempted a counter-attack after came as a welcome surprise. Even if it was a failed attempt to swat at his hand. It showed she at least had the courage to try something like that.
He didn't answer her, not right away. Instead, Kyle simply moved from one attack to the other. With a bit of fancy footwork, Kyle pivoted off his leading foot, spinning his body around and bringing his fist in again at her shoulder. Whether it hit or not was irrelevant; Kyle fell into a pattern of short and quick strikes, designed for speed rather than power. None of the blows were serious, not yet, but Evelyn would still have to be on her toes to handle them.
Only then did he start speaking, even as he flooded his mind with more images of her and, as a twist, of himself making a move to kiss her upon cheek, hand, nose. Under that all was which arm would strike next, where it intended to go, how hard he was to hit. His actions buried within the school, hidden from sight unless she looked hard enough.
"In a fight, there is not such thing. Now focus...find the echo of my actions and draw it out. I'm only going to get faster and hit harder as time drags on.
Think; how do I control my power to form only the smallest bolts at times, but full beams of energy at others? I have to control it, focus how much I need and then only allow that much out. The same principle applies to your own; find what you need and then only allow it to dominate your mind."
He wasn't a teacher but experience had taught him a lot. He knew Evelyn could do this. She just needed to believe it herself.
"Anything worth obtaining is always difficult; I imagine its not easy for artists to create masterpieces with meaning in short order...and yet the success of them fills them with more pride than any collection of quick paintings ever could, no?"
Smiling, Kyle stepped away from Evelyn, retreating several steps to create a short but decent distance between them. For the purposes of his experiment, he wanted to be close enough to strike suddenly, but far enough away to give Evelyn a few moments before his strike. Seeing as this was the first phrase of the experiment, Kyle took a few extra steps at first. If she progressed well, he'd get closer with each successful attempt. If not...well, it was a lovely day out.
"Oh, beating you up was the last thing on my mind when coming here. But I'll try not to make it too obvious." He chuckled at her reaction to his words before letting his arms drop loosely to his sides. "Now, the experiment is simple," he started saying before he suddenly stepped in towards her, sending a light punch for her shoulder, which he only made physically obvious at the last second. But instead of thinking on his action, Kyle thought hard about Evelyn, pulling up his memories of her into the foremost of this thoughts.
The experiment was simple, after all; Evelyn would need to find the action amongst the clutter to properly defend herself. And Kyle could create plenty of clutter when he needed to...and this was only the first attempt.
If Kyle had been a simple man, both he and Sam would have been back to fighting over the simple battle of words they were having. The old him might have said to hell with it and went back to brawling with the man, which likely would have changed into a battle of mutants straight and true. The current him, however, remembered it had a brain in its body and opted for a more subtle approach. Shrugging his shoulders, Kyle casually walked to where he'd discarded his clothes, helmet included. It was but a matter of a moment for him to toss them back on, holding the helmet under his arm.
"Fine. Let them question all they want. The facts won't change."
Again, he bristled slightly at the man's assumption that he had been about to win, but fought back the urge to give him a friendly meeting with the pavement in favor of the bigger picture. Those men were getting away...Kyle simply wasn't going to allow that. At the same time, however, he wasn't going to allow himself to be taken in either. The best play that he had was to switch this man's target's to his targets...and then escape when the time was right.
"Hmpf, running? They left in a vehicle so I doubt running after them would do us much good. I hope you brought transportation." With that said, Kyle turned to the roof's edge, glanced down into the alley and then relocked the helmet upon his head. Then he jumped.
It wasn't as crazy as it sounded. Kyle had spent many years practicing getting from one place to another through unconvential means. The use of parkour was one of his best ways of getting around quickly in certain situations. Like now. His jump let him land on a fire escape, to which he quickly jumped to the wall across from him. Sliding down a few feet, he jumped back to the fire escape, catching on the railing and hauling himself up in short order. The sudden drop had put him near the ladder, which he unlatched as he grabbed onto it, sliding down to the ground where his bike was waiting. No sooner had the metal met concrete then Kyle was moving to his bike, gearing it up as soon as he was on it.
Casting a glance to see if his "tag along" was coming, Kyle revved the engine and headed off in the direction the van had gone. He knew almost where it was likely to go...he just needed to get there to confirm. And in the meantime, take the time to plan how he was going to get away from Sam when the time required it.
As the warmth of the sun heated his body and the cool of the wind touched his skin, Kyle listened patiently to Evelyn's explanation of her power. The use of fish as a symbol to help him understand was greatly appreciated, for it gave him something he could grasp and understand in his mind, a problem he could try to solve. By the time she was done, Kyle had closed his eyes and leaned against the nearby wall, his mind taking a moment to process the data he'd just acquired before speaking.
Well, not so much speaking as lifting his arm up before him, palm up, as if offering for her to take his hand. Slowly, for her to see, Kyle started forming a ball of energy in his hand, making it slowly grow from his fingers. As the ball began to form, Kyle began to speak. "My power comes from within me, like most powers do. To my knowledge, the energy I'm creating is generated by my muscles at a much higher rate than everyone else. As a result, I don't tire very easily because, in essence, my muscles have more to draw from. But how do you suppose I get this energy to form what I'm making in my hand, when it flows through every part of my body? The answer is simple. Will. Focus. I focus my mind on it, will the energy to my hand and hold it there until I release it from my will."
Instead of simply releasing the ball, Kyle crushed it in his hand, the energy dissipating harmlessly into the air around him. Dropping his arms down, he made his way over to Evelyn's side. "You likened your power to a school of fish. You have no way to guide them as a whole, true. But what about isolating one? Focusing your mind to select a single fish amongst the school and capturing it, bringing that echo to the forefront of your mind while letting the school wander into the background. I imagine such a thing would be difficult...but it's not impossible, right?"
Chuckling a little at her reaction to his experiment offer, Kyle patted her on the shoulder before giving it a light squeeze. "You shouldn't. For the sake of the exercise, I'll go easier than I should be going, but at the same time, if there is no real possibility of harm, you won't put your all into it. Not that I'm saying you wouldn't try, but subconsciously, your body will react slower because it's not worried about being harmed. You might end up with a few scrapes, but nothing too serious.
It's entirely up to you if you want to try. If my theory is correct, it'll be a great boom to you and any future training you might encounter. But I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to damage your pretty face." There was a slight smirk behind that comment, a gentle gesture to try and rile that defiant attitude she'd shown him when defending her artwork. He didn't try and hide that from her echoes; he just waited now to see if she had the courage to try.
