The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

In respond to your thoughts Kat, I answer in kind.
Yep, I fully intended to let people determine the course of their out of control powers. Using Forte as an example, if I used it on myself, he'd get some misfires from the wrong places on his body as the downside, but much stronger blasts when they did fire properly. As an example.
Yea, I was leaning towards letting people control them themselves, hence why I gave them personalities people can work from. There are just a few initial threads, which I've talked over with certain people, that I'll control them for plot story sake.
At this point in time, I have no plans for any Zodiac to be defeated or anyone set to defeat them. I imagine certain people(namely some folks who are on the wrong end of them) who will want a claim but Ill deal with that when the time comes. But people can certainly request the claim to be the downfall of a Zodiac.
I have no issue with allowing people to face the Zodiacs; it's sort of the idea that the Zodiacs are there to deal with the mutants. While they are intended to take down the stronger ones, several of them are better suited/enjoy taking on those who aren't necessarily the best of the best. And of course, with any NPC, taking them out will have to get past me as they are technically my NPCS. ^_^
Heh....you're catching on to the main point of these guys Kat. ^_^ To make the Order and the X-men possibly work together against a mutual threat.
Questions:
1. Hmmm....I think its more along the lines of no "official" government support. As in, there are some in government who are likely for this, but are supporting it through the shadows to keep some of the pressure off him. Which could come into play through the police force and its mutants encountering "red tape" in dealing with them.
2. The ally that implants loyalty, or as Alli better came up with, beliefs, is like his right hand man/women. Im debating them being either a family member or someone that trusts him completely. Not quite sure on that, opinions welcome on that front. As for what they do, they help keep the Zodiacs from having second thoughts about their actions.
Everybody in the world had buttons inside that, when pushed, would set their blood on fire and compel them to action. It had taken a bit more prodding and fishing with this one then it did on some of the other people Kyle knew(which, to be fair, not all of them were on the level...of sanity) but in the end, Kyle had managed to find just the right buttons to push. Now all he had to do was push back twice as hard.
Kyle's right arm snapped up, catching the fist as it came in and slapping it aside by hitting his knuckles to her wrist hard while shifting his head sideways to avoid the rest of the blow. He was already stepping away from her and his bike, dropping his helmet next to it as he did. Her blow had been quick, brutal...and utterly predictable. She could have been wearing a neon sign on her that screamed she had been going to strike.
Had she not been showing the signs with her body language, Kyle might have actually been hit. He'd have to stay on his guard. His face still neutral, he shifted his stance a little, looking bored as he motioned her with his fingers to try again. "Oh please...Evelyn throws a better punch then that. No wonder I'm always the one to help her; obviously you're not up to the task."
Oh, this Maya was proving herself to be an odd mixture. On one hand, she was almost dismissing his words as if they were nothing to hear, a weak arrow bouncing off a strong shield. Some people, without naming any names, were easily provoked, either making them easy to manipulate or to gain an advantage over. Those people were easy to beat. Maya wasn't one of those...yet. For Kyle could see that some of his words were getting through to her, stroking the fires within to a possibly explosive outcome.
He wondered how hard he'd have to push to get that fire to ignite.
"Oh, that wasn't an insult. I just don't know which to call you; do you prefer to be a he or a her? Hmmm...and I wonder which Evelyn will prefer, in the end. Which half of you she'll want out more than the other." After all, even if it was the same person, a guy and a girl would have fundamental differences, even if they were slight, in personality.
"Oh, you think I'm her bodyguard? That I need her permission to do as I see fit? Well, surely you're right. I imagine that if she needed help, well, that you'd just stand by idly because you know she doesn't want someone protecting her. Such a wonderful person you are, to adhere to her wishes.
Shamefully, I'd not nearly as nice. I'd protect her, help her, if I deem the situation requiring so. Because that's how much I care about her. It seems we differ in that department."
Kyle had thought he'd seen everything. The museum going out of control had been a bit of a surprise to him, but only due too the sheer mass of the chaos going around him. Once that initial shock had worn off, everything that was going wrong around him just became another situation, another problem that could be solved, most likely with the fists that had helped him through far worse. It was a day at the office, as far as Kyle was concerned.
Until he saw the army of knights atop their metal steeds. That, honestly, was something new for him. Good thing the surprise didn't keep him from vaulting a sculpture to avoid being turned into manure by the brawling exhibits. Spinning upon his landing, Kyle immediately took stock of the situation and sought out two things with his eyes; Evelyn and the mutant. Of the mutant there was no sign; of Evelyn, there was far too much.
Sighing both in frustration and resignation as Evelyn darted through the madness towards something on the far side. That would have been fine, save that one of the metal knights had decided Evelyn was a real target now, bearing down on her even as she reached her objective. Sais? What an interesting choice.
Kyle had been moving even before the knight had brought his weapon down on Evelyn, clearing the distance with ease as his parkour skills worked even in this place. Before he could reach her to assist, however, Evelyn did something amazing before his eyes. She saved herself from danger. Parrying the attack, Evelyn quickly turned it into a counter, taking both of them down with a quick pull from her sai, already moving before the metal echoed upon the floor. It was, without a doubt, the strangest sight he'd seen today.
Too bad she failed to continue paying attention to her surroundings. Honestly, the girl could have such a narrowed view at times...
Kyle caught the knight as it was swinging its weapon around, using his energy to knock the arm off at the elbow. That would never have happened against a flesh and blood foe. But this was merely a suit, with nothing inside to keep it together. The right blow in the right place could easily break that cohesion apart. It also managed to change the trajectory of its swing, making it go off course, allowing Evelyn to dodge what would have been a very painful hit. Vaulting onto the horse, Kyle elbowed the knight to the ground before diving off the horse after Evelyn.
"This is getting out of hand; we have to try and control some of these things. I know you care for the art, but people are getting hurt while we leave them at the mercy of these things. I know we have to chase the cause, but we've lost his true trail and he could be anywhere in this madness."
Like a puzzle suddenly made clear, Maya's mention of being Evelyn's girlfriend was the piece that made this particular situation finally come to proper sense. It not only answered why she was so curious about him, but the addition of the teammate and mention of protecting the school also made another particular puzzle come to light. Evelyn had showcased skills she had not had last time they met and from the sound of it, she had gotten them from joining the X-men. A bit of a stretch, but not as far as one might originally think.
As Kyle recalled, however, Evelyn's girlfriend was also...oh, the situation grew more and more clear by the second. Quite an interesting situation he'd wandered into.
His face remained an impenetrable mask, showing nothing in revelation to his news or the threat that was anything but subtle. Besides, Maya had given him a few juicy targets with which to counter verbally. That's where this fight was beginning...for now. "Ah yes...the woman that is a man and yet a woman. I believe she has mentioned you. Briefly. Before she turned to better things to discuss." Not exactly untrue, really; she just switched topics because of how embarrassed it made her. No need to admit that though.
"You disappoint me though; you've seen a couple of us do "bad" things and thus all who reside there must be just as bad? That is a stereotype I'd expect from a human who dislikes mutants; not another mutant themselves. But I'm sure everyone who lives here must be a shining example of goodwill and honestly.
You don't approve of me? Too bad that your opinion matters little to me. What matters to me is Evelyn and her safety; if I find either in need of aid, to hell with that other people think. And if you don't like that...I'd like to see you stop me, It."
It was easy to see that this Maya wasn't taking kindly to the fact that he came from Sanctuary. One could hardly blame her, honestly. Kyle knew just as well as anyone that a good portion of Sanctuary's mutants were there because of their ill reputations; heck, he'd fought with some of them on more than one occasion. It was a home away from home for those hunted by the law or who could not function in normal society as a mutant.
But it was also a place for your everyday mutant too and that fact was often overlooked by those judging the place. If you weren't at the mansion, it seemed, you were a bad seed to most. Kyle wasn't one of the better seeds, but he wasn't one of the worst either.
His eyes remained cold and emotionless in response to her slightly more wary stance, although his body slowly grew ready just in case a fight was about to start. "You're awfully curious about my relationship with Evelyn. It makes me wonder what yours is, to show so much care for her well-being.
How do I know Evelyn? What does it matter, how I know her? If she finds no wrong with me, you'll excuse me if I don't particularly care how you feel about me, Maya".
A team leader. Crap. That meant this Maya could and did have the power to call the X-men or even the police, if she so chose. It was the kind of person he'd hoped to avoid running into whenever he had to grace the mansion grounds with his presence. Couldn't have just been some student or someone passing through...well, that's the kind of day its been..
He didn't get much more in the way of Evelyn's relationship to this Maya, but then, sometimes it was the things left unsaid that said the most. Now, Kyle couldn't be certain, but something about her made that voice in the back of his whisper that trouble would be coming soon. His instinct was to get away from here before things got worse; but then, he wasn't much for running. Not until he got some real info.
Then it came; a question that he had two options in the way of answering; through a lie or through the truth. Kyle remained silent for a few moments after, pondering his answer...it didn't take him long to decide.
"No point in dragging this out for long. No, I'm not new and you wouldn't find me around this place either. I live in Sanctuary most often that not." Kyle's body remained loose as he revealed this crucial little bit of information that would most likely bring some heat, but anyone who knew him knew that he could go from loose to battle ready in a moment's notice. Maya didn't know that though. Advantage to him for now.
For a moment, Kyle debated shrugging his shoulders, telling the girl to ask Evelyn herself and take off for home. It wouldn't have been the worst thing he'd ever done and after the day he'd just had, he wanted to head back to Sanctuary, heal up and maybe spend some time practicing some new ideas he'd come up with.
But something in the way that this Maya was looking at him, in her tone of voice, made him pause. And from the sound of it, Evelyn had mentioned him to this woman...his brain did a small spiral as the gears turned in his mind. Could this be, I wonder?" he mused to himself. Only one way to find out.
He stared at her hand for a moment before briefly shaking it. "Forte." No need to give out his real name to someone from the mansion he didn't know, not right away. Besides, Evelyn might have given it away anyway, but that was besides the point.
Shrugging his shoulders to her question, Kyle placed the helmet between his legs, twisting a little to face this Maya properly. "Not much to tell; shit went down at the museum and I helped Evelyn fix it. If you want more details, asking her would be better. She remembers it all anyway.
I can't say, Maya, that Evelyn has ever mentioned you, before, however. Are you one of her fellows in the X-men?"
Kyle eyes were ever vigilant as he followed Evelyn against the trail of madness that had descended upon the museum. Paintings come to life, inanimate sculptures prancing about like nobody's business and even hollow suits of days old armor beginning a slow clanking to life...it was like something out of a horror movie mixed with that of a comedic theater. It would have been funny, actually, save for the things brought to life were trying to off the patrons. That wasn't as amusing.
Listening to her explanation for the man who was the cause of this whole mess, Kyle let his eyes wander into their path ahead, seeking out anyone who matched that description. Trying to find him amongst this madness is gonna be like looking for a needle in a....got him! Kyle only caught a glimpse of the man, but it was enough to pick out the features Evelyn described. That, and he touched an armored statue as he went around the corner, which suddenly sprang to life.
"I ever tell you you're never boring to be around? You seem to attract just the most lovely of situations."
When the painting jumped for Evelyn, Kyle had been on a hair trigger to intercept and protect Evelyn from it. He almost didn't need to bother. Compared to the girl he'd first met here a while back, to the stunning but shy girl he'd given a harsh lesson to, this Evelyn was new. This Evelyn dodged like it was second nature to her and even through a counter to boot; knocking the painting being off balance with a shot to its knees even as she continued to move forward. Very effective...save for the painting was already looking to regain its balance.
Kyle stopped that cold with a running clothesline that knocked it flat. It wouldn't be too badly damaged...hopefully. Stepping up his pace to catch up to Evelyn, Kyle smirked beneath his mask. "Well well...looks like someone's learned how to avoid that smack on the ass. Impressive." Even as he finished his sentence, Kyle saw the painting coming, pitchfork in hand. Barely breaking his stride, Kyle's arm flashed up, a bolt of per energy catching the man square in the chest, knocking him off balance. Using his foot as a pivot as he passed, he spun once and caught the man with a spinning backhand, knocking him out of sight and out of the equation.
"Don't hold back; every one of these paintings may be precious, but everyone still standing is a threat to the people here. At the very least, aim to remove them as threats."
Kyle had been about halfway onto his bike when someone had yelled after him.
Inwardly, Kyle cursed. He had hoped to drive Evelyn back here, drop her off so she could rest and get treated and head off to recover himself before anyone could even realize he'd been there. He was certain he wasn't on the Mansion, or the X-men's list of favorite people right now. And he had been so close to being able to pull that off. So very damn close.
Compared to Evelyn, Kyle was far from in trouble physically. He'd taken a few hits during the adventure at the museum, but nothing that would kill him. He'd be sore for a bit but he'd grown accustomed to that. Heck, he was barely even out of breath due to his power's neat little side effect. That didn't mean he wanted to go out and face down the whole town.
Sighing, Kyle turned his head towards the source of the voice, a woman making her way from the mansion in his direction. His outer face a solid mask of nothing, Kyle lowered the helmet he was just about to put on to address her. "You have a sec. Make it quick."
It was in these situations that Kyle was not only at his best, but most at home. Having been traveling on his own for several years, having to defend himself against all kinds of people, mutants and humans alike, Kyle had learned how to handle himself quite well. It was in those moments, in the midst of battle and chaos, that Kyle had learned the best way to survive. And win. And by the god's above, he was damned good at it.
Which is easily why, even in this shocking and utter madness, Kyle was calm and calculated. His attention was divided, yet no less diminished, keeping track of the madness around him and Evelyn in equal order. Her explanation of the situation was quick, but to the point. Enough for him to at least get the idea of what was going on and what was needed to be done to stop it.
Dodging with her to evade the charging horse, Kyle turned his attention partially to a man suddenly charging them. He would have hesitated, save for the fact that its face was all wrong. A painting come to life then. Evading it, he shoved the "thing" into a wall before snapping his head aside to track Evelyn, who was yelling even as she was moving.
Cursing under his breath, Kyle shot after her, his quick strides bringing him to her side even though she had the head start. Upon hearing her words as he came pace beside her, Kyle chuckled through his mask. "Right...people come first. The artwork...well. We'll see. Kyle knew which he'd put before the other.
Kyle had no idea where they were going or who they were chasing...a fact he needed to correct. "So where are we going and who should I be putting through a wall? Does he stand out in anyway? Have you seen how his power works; through touch or mentally?" Questions, questions...but knowledge was power. And life.
Kyle knew something was going to go wrong this day.
He never could say why he felt when trouble was likely to come. It was, more than anything, something that he felt on an instinctive level. The slight tingle in the air, the chill that went down your spine for no reason, the whispers in the wind. Perhaps it was merely his sixth sense, or his long history of fending for himself, that gave him the notice that trouble was coming or afoot. Whatever the reason, Kyle seemed to just know when he'd have to be ready for a fight.
But be damned if he didn't have his normal means.
Today, it was as simple as being in the right place at the right time. He had been getting a hotdog for himself, watching carefully the two cops chatting with one another a short distance away, when their call came over the radio. 911 calls from the museum, talk of some kind of disturbance, unable to get an exact read on the situation because it sounded too insane to be real. Of course, in a world where someone could spew fire from their hands, that wasn't saying much. Kyle didn't even wait to hear the full call; he was gone at museum and strange.
Evelyn.
Kyle's bike was perfect for getting through the often clustered streets of New York, going where those big, bulky cars could not. So it came as no surprise that he made it to the museum before the police were able, his feet already bolting up the steps to the front doors before the sound of sirens could even be heard. Considering he didn't know what he was talking into, he was fully in that silly costume of his...well, silly till people noticed that those shiny things attached to his arms were blades. Then they didn't laugh so much.
What Kyle came upon actually stunned him for a moment in its...its...insanity. It was if someone had flicked a finger and turned all the art into the museum to life. Horses ran back and forth, various beings from the different arts mingled about the halls and terrified patrons fled back and forth amongst it all. Utter chaos, at its finest. It took Kyle only a moment more to collect his bearings, remember his purpose...and kick one of the mummies that were shambling his way into the nearest display case.
Does that girl ever get into any normal kind of trouble?
As if brought forth by the thought, Evelyn came racing by, her eyes watching the madness around her, even as her path kept her rushing headlong through the heart of this madness. Headlong into the path of one of those horses. Moving as fast as his trained body allowed him, Kyle managed to tackle her out the way just in time, the horse flattening the space she had been moments prior. Quickly gathering her to her feet, Kyle gripped her shoulder firmly to make sure he had her attention.
"You and this museum have the worst luck. Care to explain, aside from the obvious, what is going on this time?'
Watching Evelyn recover, Kyle removed himself a few steps away from her, keeping his arms hanging limply at his sides. He could tell by the glances she kept sending his way that she was on edge, waiting for the next attack to come. An attack that wasn't going to come. It didn't take a genius to know that pushing her anymore on this particular day wasn't going to get them anywhere. Evelyn was likely exhausted, both mentally and physically; not everyone was gifted in that regard as Kyle was. Today's lesson would have to be enough...for now.
"Everyone's life needs saving at some point. I just hope what we worked on today comes in handy. And, on that note of practice, remember to practice what I've been showing you. Don't be satisfied with just basic practices. If you truly want to be stronger, then you have to put in that extra effort."
Turning his head towards the mansion, Kyle could make out the distinct sounds of other people starting to move around inside. A prime time to leave was arriving; there were some prime suspects that Kyle hoped to avoid and it was looking like he couldn't stick around any longer. "Looks like I'm out of time. As much as I'm sure you would disagree, I think we should do this again sometime. When you've had a chance to better your skills with others." Smiling, Kyle turned to her, tipping his head in a slight bow towards her. "If you have need of me, for anything, you know how to reach me.
Take care Evelyn." Turning, Kyle headed off towards the entrance, where his bike and his ride from trouble awaited him.
Instead of resisting her this time, Kyle made no effort against Evelyn's twist of his arm, the smile upon his face refusing to fade in the slightest. He knew, just like she knew, that he was speaking the truth. And that while his methods weren't the nicest way of getting that truth across, it was getting there regardless. Even when Evelyn kicked the back of his leg, forcing him to a knee, that smile didn't retreat for Kyle knew, at the very least, that he'd taught her two things today.
"No...I'm impossible to train with. Fighting is another story entirely." Forcing himself back to standing, Kyle took a breath before shoving back enough to give his arm some space before moving into a roll to get his arm out from behind his back...before wrapping Evelyn up in a small bear hug and flinging her too the ground. Or that's what he would have done to anyone else; to Evelyn, he stopped her from hitting the ground at all, supported only by him. Smirking, he all but pinned her down for a moment.
"Just like its impossible not to like you. Take what I've shown you today to heart Evelyn; it may and will save your life one day." Releasing her, Kyle stood before offering her a hand up. "Strong move, by the way. The kick to the leg was very effective...put your weight down on the person next time, otherwise they might escape as I did."
