The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Uh, just fantasy."
Rainbird tossed him a bag for the stones and Drew went ahead and started picking them up. Might as well. Maybe with luck she'd act a bit more sane after this was cleaned up. Andrew just listened as she answered his questions patiently. It was almost like sitting through a class lecture. In an odd way what she said made sense. That should have scared him that what she'd said made sense but it didn't, he just kept picking up the stones until there were no more to pick up and handed the bag back to Rainbird.
"Oh, I guess that makes sense. How did paper attack you? The most it does to me is papercuts from paperwork."
He was genuinely curious now. Sure paperwork was evil but it was one of those necessary evils that he was paid to take care of. Sam wouldn't have hired him if he didn't have other evils to vanquish.

Drew was rather glad that he'd managed to avoid Muscles' charge. The table certainly didn't look any better for the burnt handprint it now sported. Once Muscles righted himself he turned with a chuckle and fixed Drew with a glare. The glare was very mutual. The moment Muscles started speaking Drew was sickened. This psychopath, and if those weren't the eyes of a genuine nutter he didn't now what was, actually believed that drivel. A look of disgust fixed itself nigh permanently on Drew's face.
Drew was just about to tell him to save the speeches because it was obvious neither of them were going to convince the other when he talked himself out of it. No instead he sent a wave of white fire at rolling across the carpet at him! Crap! Drew managed to move out of the way of that when he saw the punch. Reflexively he brought his arm up to block it. His bare forearm touched the fiery flesh and Drew bite back a yelp of pain. He shoved hard against the arm to move it away from him.
If he weren't trying to keep this guy busy he'd try and find some water to dump on him. Pity Jorge wasn't here. Or Sam. Sam would do too. Drew would be happy enough if the girls got Gemma down here. Then at least he'd have a fair fight with this clown. As it was he couldn't actually fight the guy, only keep him busy until help arrived. Glancing around Drew caught sight of a lamp. He'd tell Sam to take the difference out of his paycheck. Drew darted over, grabbed the lamp, and swung the somewhat clumsy blunt instrument at Muscles. It probably wouldn't do much but it was better than trying to punch a flaming man.

Andrew began to rethink this idea of getting revenge when he heard the shrieks and shouts. There were a lot more people involved in this than he'd originally thought. People weren't a good thing right now. Not at all. He took a moment to shove the fear and confusion back into the back of his mind. This was about forgetting that. Not panicking because there were a lot of people involved. They finally came to the corner of the building and Gina basically volunteered herself for a recon mission. It was better that she handle that anyway. After all, he would be much more easily spotted.
Once Gina gave the signal he followed her. However since there was more of him to hide it was considerably harder to hide. As a result they were easily spotted. Gina attempted to dodge the incoming projectiles. Drew just walked right through them. He was already wet. A little more water wouldn't kill him. He wasn't the wicked witch of the west after all. Though now he was wondering if Gina was. Wait, she was the wrong color. Drew disregarded the idea as he began his own ammunition raid. With a smirk he tipped the plastic tub on it's side, letting a fair number of balloons spill out before tipping the tub back upright and picking the whole thing up. It would be difficult to run with but he'd manage. He was after all, fairly quick.
With his bounty in his arms, and a fair chorus of "No fair!" following him, Drew beat feet after Gina. Sure she'd declared every man, woman, and child for themselves but Drew figured it would be more fun to be a two man team against two armies. Once he came even with her he grinned and twitched the tub a little so she'd notice it.
"Ammunition raid successful captain. What are your orders?"

Saying he read was apparently the correct thing to say. From a certain point of view anyway. She wasn't calling him boring anymore. No, now she was babbling about books and such. And did she mentions thistle ghosts? What was a thistle ghost? Paper was evil? Well, that one he could maybe let slide. Papercuts were not fun in the least. Drew knew this well enough, considering how much paperwork he saw to when he was working. But unripe apples were evil? Say what? It took Drew a moment to process everything she'd said before he could reply.
"Uh, fantasy, some science fiction, some cookbooks. What's a thistle ghost? Why are paper and unripe apples evil? I mean, unripe apples eventually become ripe apples don't they?"

Well at least he got a laugh out of Rainbird for the name. But she was still calling him a stick in the mud. Drew just didn't understand her definition of fun. At all really. He gaped at her as she rambled on about fun being the only thing that mattered. And then it was something about storm gods and apple gods?! Was there a psych ward nearby missing a patient?! Drew glanced around but none of the nearby building looked too particularly like mental hospitals. Hmm.
He started at her question and brought his gaze back to Raindancer, something he'd continue to call her regardless of whether he ever got her real name or not.
"Uh, I read. And bake, a little."
Ok, so maybe he was a stick in the mud. However there were more important things to be done than having fun. Right now determining whether he was actually going nuts or not seemed to top the list. Although he hadn't had any problems since coming to the park. That might have just been a function of the park being nearly deserted.

She laughed and then answered him like it was the most apparent thing in the world what she was doing. Having fun, of course. And then, to top it off she accused him of not having enough fun! The heck?! The girl didn't even know him! He was pretty sure he was slightly offended, no matter whether she was right or not. He just stood there gaping. While he gaped at her she challenged him to think of something fun to do if he want to know her name.
"And I thought I was going nuts." he muttered.
Andrew just shook his head. No, he wasn't going to play that game. The sparklers he held were very nearly dead so he dropped them on the grass without a care. With the very recent rain the grass wouldn't catch fire. An idea struck him and returned his gaze to the girl. After a minute or two he smirked.
"Well then I'll give you a name. How about....Rainbird Stormdancer? So Rainbird, what's with the stone circle, sparklers, and singing? Aside from having fun?"

Andrew, busy concentrating on the soon to be food that was firmly grasping his cheek, didn't notice Martin get up at all. Well, his eyes saw it but in light of the current situation his brain didn't acknowledge the movement. He did however notice once he had a lap full of said man. Martin was sitting, right there on his lap, in a manner that certainly seemed more than friendly. Then again, Drew had broken character first hadn't he? Andrew cursed himself. The sudden change, the dead eyes, were all his fault for forgetting his character. Why had he broken character because of a little pain? Sure the bloody bug's pinch was uncomfortable but he'd survived much worse from the man sitting on his lap.
Even without the words, spoken so close, he would have known his transgression. The use of the lobster was just extra. Andrew very much did not want to go back to the master. Master tended to mean pain. As much as he absolutely hated admitting it, even to himself, he preferred it when Martin wasn't causing him pain. Not because of was adverse to pain. No, Andrew threw himself into enough bad situations to know that it wasn't the pain that made him prefer the other Martin. Rather it was the gentle touches, that foot from earlier, that made him prefer that Martin. It sickened Drew just as much as the promises told him he liked it. He had Tasean but this man, and the term only loosely applied if you asked Drew, had put himself in a position to usurp that. All because of his blasted mutation. The punch to the ribs punctuated these thoughts.
"No. I'll be-behave."
He'd almost said 'I'll be good.' However Andrew didn't think being good would win him any points with Martin. So he'd corrected himself mid-sentence to behave. If it fixed this mess then he was quite willing alter his behavior some more. So long as he could avoid another incident like the alleyway.

They finished up the song together. Well, after she'd decided to drag him to her side to finish the song anyway. He'd done his best to keep the lit sparklers away from her dress. Just when Drew was starting to think the madness was over she starts jumping around and singing the song that never ends. Not only that but expecting him to do so too.
Not this boy.
No way.
Drew just stood there staring at her for a minute.
"Really? What are you doing?"
The inflection in his voice added an unspoken query of And are you insane? to the spoken ones. He'd played along long enough. Here he was going mad, or at least if he wasn't before he probably was now, and she wanted to dance around with sparklers? He didn't even know who she was?!

Andrew's look resulted in him bursting into laughter. One off the water balloons had caught Gina right on one of her horns. While he was laughing he reached over and removed the busted remains of the balloon from her horn, where it was hanging, and tossed it on the ground. At Gina's demand about pudding he grinned.
"Yeah, she got me with tapioca pudding a couple weeks back. It got all over the paperwork I was doing at the time too. Took me hours to get it cleaned up and the paperwork redone."
He frowned for a second before Gina's laughter set him to laughing again. This was much better than moping over something he couldn't control. When Gina gave the order to counter attack and dashed off he snapped off a mock salute.
"Yes ma'am!"
Drew dashed off after Gina, catching up to her fairly quickly. They were following the course of air cannon girl. With luck she'd lead them to a stash of water balloons that they could raid so that they could begin their revenge. Of all things he hadn't expected to end up in a water balloon fight. Drew was still worried about the sensations and the possibility that he was just going nuts but it was put on a back burner until after they got sweet watery revenge for their soaking.

Gina apparently would hear none of Drew correcting her. Doing what he did made him a good person in her eyes, regardless of his intentions or reasons behind it. He gave a slight shrug. If she wanted to stubbornly believe that he was a good guy then she could. It made no difference to him.
"If you say so."
An awkward silence enveloped them. At least, it was awkward to him. What else was there to talk about? Somehow she'd managed to calm him down, though he was no closer to figuring out what the heck was going on. And they'd discussed the recent incident. It wasn't as though they were close friends who could laugh and joke with each other. The sounds of the others people outside got closer but Drew paid them no mind. That is, until the girl with the cannon arm strode into their little sanctuary and fired off four balloons from her cannon. Two aimed a Gina and two at Drew. Being surprised by the watery assault Drew didn't move and thus got soaked. Cannon girl just grinned, winked, and ran off to shoot water balloons at other folks.
"Well at least it wasn't pudding this time."
Drew had been attacked by the girl previously. She liked to make mischief and thought that using her mutant power, an air cannon like appendage that had replaced her right arm, to do so was simply marvelous. The last time it had been pudding, tapioca pudding at that. Drew glanced over to Gina to see if she'd avoided the balloons at all.

Andrew mechanically went about doing as the odd woman said. Not because he was agreeing to it mind you. No, he just didn't want to upset the crazy lady while she was watching him. The moment he could see an opening he was out of here. No wonder everyone else had been heading in the opposite direction! Still, he lit the sparklers and held them as she'd demonstrated, just waiting for her to stop paying attention to him so he could get away. He was having enough trouble with sanity as it already stood. Drew certainly didn't need help!
Just as he was preparing to head for the hills the woman started to sing. This of course had the effect of stopping Andrew dead. One because he hadn't expected her to start singing and two because, song choice aside, she wasn't half bad. The song didn't quite lay right for her voice but it sounded good enough. And since 'Over the Rainbow' was such an ear worm of a song he found himself humming along with the crazy girl quite naturally. On one hand this might be the perfect time to get away. On the other hand now he was curious as to why she'd started singing and just what all of this was. On yet another hand that song was an ear worm and like it or not he was very tempted to sing along. Wait, that made three hands didn't it? Now he was confused.
Eh, it couldn't hurt to stick around and see what the crazy chick was up to right? He could always leg it at the first opportunity afterward. After all he was fairly quick. Meanwhile the humming turned into singing along (when had that happened?!)
"Somewhere over the rainbow ... skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true."
Why had he done that? Maybe madness was contagious?!

Andrew listened to Gina talk about how she thought Agnes was doing.
"Well I'm sure if she needs to talk about it she'll do so. Just gotta wait for her. It takes some people a while to open up about such things."
That was speaking from personal experience. He still hadn't told anyone what Martin had done to him. Now though it was because he didn't want to. He knew what Martin had done to him would be considered horrible by others, that was why he didn't share. It had taken him a while to accept that what had happened had been for the best but he had. No he kept silent because of orders and because others just wouldn't understand.
Gina moved on to complimenting him on his bravery for taking on Mr. Muscles. Drew gave her a small smile in return.
"It's not a matter a bravery. I was just doing the right thing. Freaks like them don't deserve a daughter like Agnes. If keeping her away from them meant getting beat up a little, I was and still am fine with that."
Any mutant deserved better than that. That was just simple fact. There was no way he would have let Agnes' parents take her back. Taking on Mr. Muscles, flames or no flames, had simply been a part of that. It still made him sick the way they'd given such preferential treatment to Muscles over their own daughter. Just because his mutation was prettier. That was why he loathed humans, they didn't and couldn't understand mutants. All they would ever do would be to hold them back.
