The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She was probably right. The place did seem like it could have been abandoned that long. Though her other explanation was more entertaining.
"What, like some more extreme version of the planeteers? Let's hope they can't summon a Captain Planet."
He chuckled at her assertion that the Apple Gods were unbeatable. There were tons of things that could beat an apple but logic had no place here. So he didn't bother with the list. Instead he just accepted that the Apple Gods were ultimate.
Then Rainbird said something remotely serious and he looked at her with concern. She hadn't been that close to normal the entire time so far. It was actually worrisome.
"I guess, though that's a little hard to do when you can't escape the bad things."
Was that whole persona just a mask to hide behind? Drew actually felt sorry for her if that was the case. Mind you one little serious sentence does not a mask make. However it stuck out so plainly from the tone of the rest of the conversation that it was sufficiently worrying. And he still didn't know her real name. Here he was worrying about a girl whose name he didn't know that he called Rainbird Stormdancer. Drew smiled a little. He felt like his old self for a second there. Worrying about other people instead of his own problems.

Drew grinned and drawled his response to the compliment a little.
"Aw schucks captain I were just doin' my duty."
Gina dumped the balloons she'd stolen into the tub and Drew wasn't put out by the extra weight in the slightest. She'd only taken an armful and had rather small arms. Drew followed Gina as they ran. She was officially the captain for this little 'mission'. While she outlined her plan Drew listened. It was a good one for the situation. However they couldn't afford to get too pinned down in one place. He waited until she asked if he had questions before voicing this.
"No questions ma'am but might I suggest picking a few defensible spots and switching between them regularly? If we get pinned down we'll be done for. Guerrilla tactics would be a good addition to this situation."
At that he put the tub down, scooped up a few balloons and let them fly at their pursuers. They scattered like autumn leaves in the wind to avoid the volley, buying Gina and himself some time. Drew grabbed the bin again and began running again.

Drew growled again but it was half hearted and sickly sounding. More a fierce whimper. He was too out of breath to growl properly. After another moment or two and dismally noticing the widening gap between them Drew just gave up and reverted to walking. Now that he wasn't consumed by play he noticed that his clothes had dried at some point in the proceedings. His hair was still a bit damp but that didn't really matter too much. He trudged tiredly into the abandoned clearing about a minute after Rainbird did.
It was a very pretty place so Drew didn't even notice the shout of "Base!". He glanced around. It needed a bit of tlc but the abandoned look worked in it's favor. It was lucky enough to have a fairly pretty fountain that stayed pretty when it started to look old.
"Huh, I wonder when the last time the city sent maintenance here was? Probably more than a few years I'd guess."
Drew sat himself on the edge of the fountain as Rainbird had done. Deciding the game needed some closure he glanced over at Rainbird and grinned.
"I surrender. The Ripe Ones are too powerful for me to defeat."
Then he winked and turned his eyes to the sky while he regained his breath.

The touch to his lips silenced any further talking he might do. It wasn't really necessary though because Martin's next words terrified him. They spoke of disappointment to him and disappointment was bad. Very very very bad. The physical situation they were in was the absolute furthest from his mind at that point. He was trapped between fear and the love that his promises forced on him. The combination showed in his eyes, if nowhere else on his face. Then pain, from where Martin removed the lobster quite forcefully, erupted and brought Drew firmly back into the here and now. The demon sea bug went back on it's platter and under it's dome before the waiter returned. In fact Martin was standing and returning to his chair when the man arrived, leaving the only hint of previous events the blood that now ran down Drew's cheek.
He dabbed at it with a napkin, staining the lovely white linen red. Martin sipped his water while Drew worked on stemming the flow of blood. He really wanted to hate the man. Nothing he'd done had been to Drew's benefit at all. In fact most of it turned out horrible for him. And yet, thanks to those promises, he found he couldn't. It was irrational and he hated it. Andrew hated that he couldn't hate Martin. The sentence Martin spoke snapped his attentions away from his bloody cheek and his thoughts. Drew quickly recognized there would be consequences if he didn't do as told. He took a breath and repeated the sentence back.
"Rope, at least five meters, hemp. A blowtorch. Three different pliers."
It wasn't until after he'd repeated the sentence that he realized what had been said. It sounded like shopping list and Drew didn't particularly like the contents. He rather hoped Martin didn't intend to use it for what he suspected he would but it was a fool's hope and one that didn't live very long. Around Martin, Drew had resigned himself to pain even more completely than before. It was becoming so commonplace in it's varied forms that he just accepted the likelihood of another torture session with some small amount of serenity. It was unavoidable.

Drew let out a growl at being tricked. Yes an actual growl. It was all in character! Though it might have picked up a little extra oomph from the 'evil because you're weak' remark. That sorta hurt. Though he did remember her saying as much of the Unripes so it wasn't surprising that she'd bring that up. He dropped the stick and sped off after her.
"I can and I shall win! My Unripe Lords give me strength!"
Unfortunately he was starting to wear down a little from all the running. Rainbird seemed fine, which meant she probably ran a lot. He on the other hand was getting tired and a bit winded. Drew didn't run every day after all, only when his life was in danger and there was no one around to protect.
"We shall..."he paused for breath as he gave chase, "not be denied or defeated!"

He shrugged effortlessly.
"So be it. If you will not forswear your false gods then you will die!"
Drew brought his stick across her in a swatting motion so that her strike went past him harmlessly. He grinned maniacally at her. Drew was just playing it like a part and enjoying it. Being the villain was always fun.
"I am the Champion of the Unripe Lords. Such pathetic action cannot defeat me!"
With that said Drew swung the stick diagonally across his body, gently of course. It didn't really matter who won the little swordstick fight. It was just fun, as she'd pointed out earlier. He was feeling more than a little silly, both for what he was doing and not realizing what she'd meant until now, but he reasoned that it didn't really matter. This was pretty fun, if a little nuts.

Drew stopped again. She was determined to talk it seemed. Heck, she didn't even seem to notice that he wanted nothing to do with her! Was she this blind before she left? Still, he swallowed his annoyance and walked over to a seat placed near hers. He sat down quietly.
"Alright then."
He snorted at her saying that a lot could have changed while she was gone.
"A lot did change while you were gone. I've got loads of new scars that I acquired after you left for one. For two..."
At this point he held up his left arm to show the four promise bands around it. He'd only had one when they'd met and he hadn't gotten any of the others until after she'd up and disappeared.
"I'll just say a lot has changed for me. I'm not the same guy you knew. Not by a long shot."
Not that she'd actually known him at all but he wasn't going to say that. Of course by latching onto that topic he'd hoped that he'd neatly sidestepped talking about why he'd been annoying the people inside. It was better all around if they just left each other well enough alone.

Drew was just about to escape when a familiar voice called out to him. He took a breath and rearranged his expression into something more neutral before he turned to greet Kate.
"Hi Kate. I was bugging a few people in the mansion so they asked me to come outside. That's all."
No need to point out that he'd been bugging them by being too happy. That would cause questions as to why he wasn't happy now and he certainly didn't want Kate asking that. He might be tempted to tell her and somehow, despite the bikini that was very Old Kate, he doubted New Kate would take it well.
"I won't disturb your sunbathing any longer. I know how seldom it is you get to come outside wearing so little."
And then Drew turned and made to leave once more. He didn't want much to do with her right now and his being around would ruin her obviously good mood.

Drew chuckled at her confused expression and then smirked at her call for pause. Rainbird clearly wasn't ready for this fight. He held his stick single-handed in a grip that spoke of overconfidence. He was continuing to ham it up as best he could for Rainbird. A cocky smirk played upon his lips as he settled into a stance in front of Rainbird.
"Then come, little deluded one, and I shall prove to you the error of choosing the ripe ones."
He lunged forward, aiming to tap her on the stomach with the tip of the swordstick. Just as quickly he jumped back, putting distance between them again.
"Give up little one. The ripe devils are no match for the Unripe Lords. Give your loyalty to the Unripe Lords and you will be amply rewarded I assure you."
Drew continued to smirk and tried to stay as far out of Rainbird's reach as possible. No need to let her actually hit him of course.

To say that Drew was excited would be an understatement. He hadn't been this thrilled in ages. Well, there was that time with Tasean but beyond that nothing compared. He wasn't going mad after all! No, in fact something was happening to his mutation. He didn't know precisely what but his mutation was changing. It was reacting to the promises other people made like it did his own. Drew was thrilled. So thrilled that he didn't even mind going outside in 100 degree weather just to spare the rest of the mansion inhabitants having to endure his enthusiasm. He'd been beyond happy ever since he'd finally figured out what the connected feeling he'd been enduring was.
It was still annoying and somewhat maddening at times. However Drew was learning to cope with it now that he knew what caused it. It had been the unknown cause that had scared him so much. Drew strolled along the edge of the building, taking advantage of it's shade. It was too hot for sane people to be outside but Drew was far too happy to care. He'd just unbuttoned the short sleeve button down he was wearing and continued on. That and the jean shorts kept him from getting too hot.
Drew rounded a corner and noticed the pool area. Maybe a quick dip in the pool was in order? It would certainly cool him off. As he approached however he noticed someone lounging poolside that he certainly didn't want to have anything to do with. Kate, in a bikini no less, was laying there. Drew frowned, his good mood dampened considerably. Last time they'd talked she'd informed him in no uncertain terms that they hadn't been 'all that close' were her words. Drew snorted. It had hurt at the time, finding out that someone he'd considered a friend didn't care. Now he just wanted to avoid her. Drew swerved from his path to the pool, trying to walk past Kate without being noticed. The people inside the mansion wouldn't have to worry about his good mood for a little while.

Drew continued to laugh as he ran. He could hear Rainbird now. Hadn't he just said something nearly identical to her? Get back here indeed. Drew smirked as he ran, changing directions now and then.
"You just try to stop me you worshiper of the ripe devils! I shall destroy your gods and bring them to justice before the Unripe Lords!"
It was like playing a part in a play or something. In that case he could easily act. Besides, this was sort of fun, in a crazy silly way. Drew spied a couple of sticks on the ground and brought himself to a halt, picked them up. They were nice and straight and would do nicely for what he had in mind. He thought back to a similar confrontation in a store. Drew didn't plan on stealing a kiss from this girl however. Once Rainbird caught up he tossed one of the sticks at her feet.
"En garde, worshiper of the ripe devils! We will fight for our Lords' honor!"

Rainbird's reaction was comical. She very nearly tripped and spun around quick as she could. Her eyes were wide as she babbled about how evil that would be. Her arms waved in the air as she just couldn't seem to believe that he'd do something that evil. Well if it was evil she wanted then he'd oblige. In the hammiest way he knew. Drew came to an easy stop a few feet from her and pulled himself up to his full height so that there wasn't a hint of slouch in his back. He let a wicked grin spring up on his face as he casually walked over to Rainbird.
"How? It's quite simple really. You see, I am the champion of the unripe apple gods. They have bestowed upon me the power to smite the undeserving worshipers of the ripe ones. And now I shall use those powers on you!"
Then Drew laughed. The corniest, most ridiculous evil laugh he could muster. Following this he poked Rainbird right in the middle of the forehead.
"Tag!"
Then he dashed off, laughing as he did so. That was actually pretty fun.

She kept right on running and Drew pouted. Oh he wasn't about to let her get away, not at all. But it was sort of annoying that she hadn't listened when he'd shouted to stop. And then taunted him! Grrr!
"When I catch you I'll..I'll..I'll give you to the unripe apple gods! That's what I'll do!"
It was sort of a pathetic threat really but what else was there? Traditional threats didn't seem like they'd have much effect on her. On the bright side he was catching up to her quite nicely. Drew grinned just a little as he saw her round a tree and followed. Rainbird was not going to get away that easily!

He blinked. All that oddness and she didn't know what she was going to do next! That...Drew felt a little lost. He listened as she tossed out options for what she might do next. He sort of had hope when she mentioned going to get some more ink. Did she do tattoos? He didn't have any other than those his mutation gave him but he still thought they were pretty cool. Not that he'd ever get one. He'd be too afraid that it would get scarred up. Then she tapped him on the arm and ran off. Drew blinked until he heard the shout.
"Hey!"
Drew sprinted after her. He was no runner but he was pretty darn quick and having long legs was handy sometimes.
"Get back here you!"
He probably looked a fool, chasing after Rainbird like this. For once he didn't care a whit.

He shuddered at her explanation of what the paper had done. She didn't know how it had done it but what it had done was creepy enough.
"I will have to steer clear of making paper mad. Mad paper doesn't sound very fun at all."
Rainbird then proceeded to get everything packed away but Drew froze as she started to tug the dress off. For one brief second he was distinctly reminded of a certain blonde who'd just shucked off her shirt. Then he noticed she actually had clothes on underneath the dress and breathed a sigh of relief. Of course the shirt had rode up a little but that was easily ignored in the wake of 'omg-is-she-stripping?!'.
"So, uh, what are you going to do next?"
After all, she'd done that weird worship thingy here in the park. Whatever else she did was bound to be just as weird. By comparison he was so normal it hurt!
