The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It had taken him a minute to recognize that the gal had an accent. What was it with him and meeting blonde British women here at night? Was the baking like some sort of catnip but for British ladies? Though he didn't think this one was an actual Lady with a capital L so that was something. This one seemed a bit more open than Kate had been at first though. So when smiled so did Drew.
"Sam's a good guy. Helped me out of a scrape a while back that ended up with me working for him."
His assumption that feeding her would help seemed to prove true. Serena gained back her color as she noshed on the muffin. Well it worked for the grannies back in Kentucky so he didn't see why it wouldn't work here. They fed everyone that set foot in their house whether they wanted it or not. He grinned a little at her thanks and her praise.
"Eh, don't mention it. My mother taught me growing up and I kept it up as a habit. Once I got here...well it's one small way to help out. Keeps the kids fed anyway."
Spinning to the fridge, Drew poured himself a glass of milk. Shame there wasn't any beer but it was the public fridge. He'd have to break into Sam's stash for a beer if he wanted to drink in the Mansion. Since that wasn't happening, Drew settled for milk and good company.

Being interrupted while baking had happened often enough in the past that Drew was no longer startled and embarrassed by it. Ergo when the teenage girl walked in looking about as pale as Death's Horse he wasn't surprised, merely concerned. He watched her as she got her drink of water and nodded as she greeted him.
"Hi there. You alright? You're lookin' a bit worn."
Drew didn't recognize her but then there were a number of students here at the Mansion that he didn't recognize. Whether they'd shown up in the month he was gone or had just slipped beneath his notice he couldn't say. Drew wasn't about to go digging through the files just to find out. He wasn't that desperate and the clean up from such a move would be more than he wanted to deal with.
"My name's Drew by the way. Andrew Leroy. I work for Sam."
The oven timer went off and Drew erupted into quick activity. He removed the coffee cake from the oven, set it aside to cool, slid the new batch of muffins into the oven, and adjusted the temperature accordingly. Once the timer was set again he leaned against the counter again and grabbed one of the earlier batch of muffins he'd made from the basket on the counter that he'd tucked them into. He offered it over to the new comer. Some food would probably do her good.

He had to wonder, as he stirred the batter for a second batch of blueberry banana nut muffins, if anyone in the Mansion had connected the disappearance of baked goods at breakfast to his little vacation. Of course to him that felt like a lifetime ago. Yet he'd taken up the baking again not long after returning. He'd started it as a way to soothe his nerves. Now it was part of his routine and so Drew clung to it. Every little thing he could scrounge to feel more at home here was welcome. With the memories of Styx rattling around in his head Drew could recall this place as a worn shambles. That plus other recent events had shaken his faith in his place here at the Mansion.
What did he do after all that was so important? He took care of paperwork for Sam and baked treats for the kids to have with breakfast. As near as he could tell he was an X-Man in name only. Missions went to other people. People with powers that were useful. Drew ruthlessly squashed that old bitterness as he poured the batter into a freshly washed muffin tin. He'd worked for a long time to get over that. No way was he going to backslide now. There were only two things keeping his power from being useful: a dearth of cleverness on his part and his own morals.
As such he had worked long and hard to convince himself that he was content not making use of his power. Drew had cultivated other means of fighting. He smirked to himself as he waited for the coffee cake to finish baking. At least the last month or two had been good in that respect. He leaned against the counter with a sigh. It was going to be a long night alone with his thoughts.

The lady took shelter behind Drew as he faced down Sebastian. A small part of him admitted to fear at the prospect of facing Sebastian. Another insisted that this was stupid and suicidal so he must be trying to get himself killed. Mostly however he was just determined to protect the lady from Sebastian. Besides, he was sure that the man wouldn't kill him.
Probably.
After all Sebastian was taking the time to try and talk him out of this. That boded well for his survival even if they did fight.
"Sorry Sebastian but I can't do that. You knew me then. You should know I have a thing for protecting people."
That had been what he'd mainly concerned himself with in that future. That was one thing that Drew was proud of Styx for. Regardless of the side he'd chosen he had tried to help and protect people. Though Drew couldn't help but wonder how Styx would have turned out if he'd gone on his holiday before the dream. Forcibly yanking himself from his thoughts, Drew smiled bitterly at Sebastian.
"I'm afraid it does have to be like this. If any blood is going to decorate those blades of your today I'd rather it be mine than hers." Drew chuckled at Sebastian's commentary on the coat, "I'll pay the dry cleaning bill later."
He shook his head and motioned for the woman to step back. This fight was going to happen anyway. He glanced at the woman briefly.
"You might want to take this chance to run."
Then Drew's attention was fixed on Sebastian as he charged toward the other man. He couldn't win this fight. But he could delay the unicorn long enough for the woman to get away. His sword lashed at Sebastian in a diagonal cut that would bite deeply into the man's shoulder if it connected.

The woman had managed to take refuge behind some machine or another. Drew didn't know what it was. It was just there and conveniently provided cover for the woman to hopefully get away. Sebastian got to the end of the church roof and jumped before Drew could. White haired man landed gracefully just as Drew leaped for the roof. His own landing was less than ideal. Drew ended up having to tuck and roll a little ways and he still landed in a heap.
"Well darn, there goes my entrance." he grumbled as he dragged himself to his feet, "Been a while Sebastian. Last I checked chasing women across rooftops with murderous intent wasn't your thing."
Not that he'd know but you couldn't start a sword fight without some form of banter before hand. It just wasn't done. Well, unless you were on the battlefield. This wasn't a battlefield though so Drew felt it was safe enough. He drew his broad sword though because it wouldn't do to be caught unprepared. Whether it was Drew or Styx, he remembered that Sebastian was infinitely more skilled than him. Maybe he could have presented a challenge once but not now. Drew had lost that level of skill when he'd come back.
His eyes darted over to where the red haired woman had gone and he caught a glimpse of that hair. She was still around but hiding. Waiting maybe. It would be better but he'd take what he could get. Drew settled himself into a stance that would let him react quickly. He didn't want to fight but rather assumed it would go that route.
"You'll probably be the first person I have to use this blade against you know."

The woman managed to reach the peak with some distance yet on Sebastian. It gladdened Drew to see it. The more distance the woman could put between herself and Sebastian the less likely she was to die tonight. Drew spent a few moments more taking in the situation. He had two choices. He could get a bit further up the fire escape and leap to the church roof. That would put him behind Sebastian. He'd get closer quicker but maybe not quick enough to prevent Sebastian from harming the woman. The question of why Sebastian would choose to suddenly become homicidal did occur briefly to Drew as he continued scaling the metal structure. It was dismissed as quickly as it came. The why wasn't all that important at the moment.
Another look to the church roof brought Sebastian into view. Not only into view but looking at Drew. Well, it was inevitable that he would be recognized as soon as Sebastian appeared. His second option, and the one that Drew favored, was continuing up to this rooftop and then crossing to the roof that the woman and Sebastian were running toward. The corners of the buildings were close enough that there was little danger of missing. The only downside being that this building was taller and so the fall was longer than the jump would be from the church roof.
Preferring one jump to two, Drew continued his climb to the top of the building. He paused only to take down his hood. His identity didn't need to be kept safe from Sebastian and it would limit his vision. It was difficult to check on the two on the church roof with it on at any rate. Their progress was as important as his own. Thankfully it was easier to climb ladders and stairs than steep rooftops. He lost as little time as he could in this since he'd only been half way up when Sebastian made it to the peak of the church roof.
As soon as Drew's boots hit roof he was running to the corner of the building. He spared a glance over to Sebastian and the woman as he prepared to jump.

It felt like a lifetime since he worn an outfit so very similar to this one. He supposed it was lucky that the time of year suited the outfit well. The tan trench coat and raised hood drew no attention from the crowd of like garbed folk. Neither did the red scarf obscuring the lower portions of Drew's face. The combination was such that between the hood and scarf little could be seen of his face other than his eyes. Beneath the trench coat was a white shirt and white pants. The ensemble that rendered him unremarkable save to those who had seen it before was completed with a pair of black gloves and a matching pair of combat boots. Unlike its twin this particular set of clothes held no associated memories. They were new and crisp where the others had been careworn. It was better that way. They weren't memories he particularly wanted to relive. Even Styx's good memories held pain for Drew.
There were two additions to the outfit though that Styx hadn't had. At his side was a matched broadsword and dagger. He'd sought them out after returning to New York. So few people carried such things that he generally got away with a few strange looks. After all, no one actually carried sharpened swords around. Drew knew how to use them but actually accustoming himself to doing so? It was frustrating to have the knowledge but not the necessary experience. In short he'd just have to practice with the darn things until he was as comfortable with them as he had been.
It had been even longer since he'd actually walked these streets. It had been before the dream actually. Drew hadn't been able to bring himself to return to the vicinity of the church afterward. Yet now here he was walking toward the place again dressed as he had in the dream. There hadn't been any coming to terms with the events that had occurred or his role in them. Oh no, Drew was here dressed in this manner for one reason.
He wanted to see if the role still fit.
Drew had felt like he was cast adrift ever since returning. He wasn't sure where he fit now after everything that had happened, both in the dream and elsewhere. Becoming Styx again, if only for a day, was something of a test. He was drawing near to the church when the crowds abruptly changed direction and most ran as fast as they could. Drew frowned as he trudged through the sudden panic. It was probably another demonstration gone violent. New York had turned into an ideological battleground just as he'd returned. The closer he got to the church the easier it was to move since most folks had already high tailed it elsewhere. At least Drew could catch sight of what was happening without being jostled.
It took a moment but he saw the movement on the rooftop of the church. Moving in closer he noticed that A.) There was a woman being chased across the roof and B.) There was a familiar head of white hair doing the chasing. Swearing under his breath, both at the presumed form of his erstwhile church leader and at himself for being such a glutton for heroics, Drew ran toward the church. Going inside and finding the stairs to the roof or bell tower or some such were out. If that was Sebastian then he didn't have that kind of time.
Drew searched around for something readily available. He could just climb the side of the building. There were enough handholds that he could see to make it feasible but not swift enough. Thankfully one of the neighboring buildings held the answer in a fire escape that Drew could scale relatively swiftly. By the time he cleared enough of the church wall to see the woman was running up toward the peak of the church roof with Sebastian in pursuit.

Sitting back in his seat, Drew stretched for a moment. It was time to put thoughts of the trip aside or he'd be leaving Becca to go find the nearest bar for a few lonesome drinks. So he nodded when Becca asked if he was heading back to the Mansion.
"I sure am. And what kind of fool would I be if I turned down the opportunity to go home with a beautiful red head?"
Drew shot Becca a cheeky grin as he stood up and set about cleaning off any remaining trash and pulling himself together. Very shortly he was ready to go and waiting on Becca. Of course he'd be draping his coat around her the moment they got outside but there was no need for her to know that yet.

Drew smiled a little even as he began to realize part of the reason for his slip into the more formal way of talking he'd developed over the course of his little trip. Shaking off the unwelcome knowledge Drew smiled a little brighter as the girl gave her name.
"Lady Alice then. Quite a pleasure to meet you."
Closer observation made the resemblance that he'd unconsciously picked up on slowly disappear. There were subtle differences that were Drew's saving grace. He might not have tolerated an exact duplicate. At young Alice's question Drew felt himself grin widely.
"I'm afraid not my young Lady Alice. I was, in fact, Sam Johnson's assistant before I left. Whether or not he'll allow me to continue in that position is another thing entirely but hardly anything to worry about."
He chuckled a little.
"But since I haven't been here recently maybe you'd like to give me a tour anyway?"

Right then. Drew is returning to New York (not new news for those that witnessed my attempt at this last month). He's a bit different from how he was when he left due to vague events of vagueness that may or may not be clarified as time goes on.
In either case the Promise Master is back and ready for business. Any ideas for threads or small plots to get him on his way would be appreciated.

Drew looked at Rebecca. Not just a glance but a long look. He probably, no definitely, owed her more than he was giving her. So he sighed and sat back in his seat. The information about her trip to Hungary wasn't particularly of note at the moment. He was trying to answer her question of whether he had been good and happy.
"For a while there, yeah I was. Now...well I'm working on it I guess you could say."
Drew frowned as he remembered the end of his trip and the reason he'd returned to New York.
"My trip didn't exactly end well."
He wasn't ready to say much more than that. What had happened still hurt very badly. Drew took a moment to remind himself that what happened wasn't the kid's fault and then focused back on the present and his reunion with Rebecca. He gave her a slightly strained smile and hoped that she got notion that he wasn't ready to say any more.

He soaked in the gossip about recent happenings fairly quietly. Mostly relationship oriented stuff. Agnes had moved out. Drew didn't know this Emerald person so he couldn't say much about her journey. New folks were always nice to here about. After all the Mansion was there to help out where it could. Gina and Koga dating surprised him a bit but Drew didn't really react. As protective as he might feel of her Drew had to trust her to make the right choices. Koga seemed like a decent enough guy from what little Drew remembered of him.
"Sounds like it's been busy enough, in its own way."
This was the down side of going away for a time. Once you came back you had to restart those friendships again. Trying to rekindle said friendship with Becca was proving a bit awkward. At least, to him. He had little idea of what to say next. So he distracted himself with his coffee and sandwich.
He wasn't exactly ready to share what his own month had been like. Well, if he wanted to be technical it was the last day of that month that he didn't want to share.
"I wandered around Europe for a while. Hopped a plane to Australia and spent the rest of the month there. Nothing particularly special."
