The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jude took a moment to just breathe and assess what had happened. Another plume of smoke came out of his mouth, but this was just residue. He needed a serious drink of water. He needed a serious dose of lotion too.
The frenchman ran his hands along his arms dusting off a fine layer of ash. The cracks in his skin were still thereabout much more skin like in texture now. Just really, really dry skin texture. The strangest part were the glowing red lines inside the cracks. Like his body had started a transformation, but had been cut short when his boosted power had copied hers.
Was he… lava inside? Jude needed to visit Chase or find that creepy animal guy again. Preferably before someone cut him open and they had to test that lava theory.
A quiet sound had Jude's senses turning externally instead of internally. Was that… crying? He grabbed for the flashlight and was on his feet in mere moments.
"Svetty…" She looked horrified. He set the flashlight down and it beamed off into the darkness. "Svetty, I'm okay." He touched her arm through her sleeve… just in case.
She shoved him hard. He stumbled back, caught his foot on his own shoe and fell backward in the process kicking off his own shoe. His skin was drying out, cracking. Horror showed on his face. He had completely forgotten. That kiss... that had been far more than was needed to simply activate a power.
No! He couldn't think about that now.
He needed to relax. He needed to feel his own power. Jude closed his eyes. The grass under him started smoking and he started shaking all over. Cracks started showing in his skin glowing a hot, angry red.
Jude's power was a lot more subtle than that.
It felt like a warm and reaching breeze. It was hard to find that when he had to reach through a hot and dry climate to do it, but he though he might... there. He sent that warm wind out and it copied the only other possible power in range.
The shaking slowed. The smoke cleared. Jude sat zen like in a scorched patch of grass and coughed as a caffeine buzz washed over him.
He kissed gently with his heart behind it. She kissed him back like she was drowning. He was already reciprocating in kind before his brain caught up with their actions. He had plenty of experience kissing, though he was rusty.
They had sunk like one or both of their knees had gone out. He had pressed himself closer, held her face captive... now that his brain was engaged he was worried that he'd gone too far. He broke the kiss first and started to apologize.
Only smoke came out of his mouth.
It was chilly, but it wasn't cold enough for his breath to turn into mist. That was definitely smoke. The bottom dropped out of his stomach. He'd forgotten to try to copy her power.
If he was ready and she was ready... that really only left no excuse. He licked his bottom lip and leaned in. Jude hesitated when his nose tickled against hers. It wasn't too late to back out. His heart was trying to mamba out his throat, he could actually feel the skin jumping at the pulse point.
It was too late for him. How could he have ever pretended that a kiss wouldn't mean a thing to him?
His lips made contact with hers. They were so soft he couldn't help but lean into it.
She sighed and sounded torn. Then she went and did it again. He let her think it over, though what there was left to think about, he wasn't sure. He needed to have an active power in order to keep the life that he was building for himself.
He could leave it behind, in theory. But if he stayed like this, he would never be able to do more than holding hands and swaying with the breeze. Selfish, but true. A kiss would always mean power activation no matter how many times he copied an inactive mutant.
> "I want to."
She wanted to train. He amended her statement in his head, but it was enough. At least he would have a power again.
A lava power. Crap.
"Svetty?" Jude pulled back enough to see her face, but he didn't let go of her. He wasn't quite ready to let go just yet. "I want to try to copy your power. I don't want somesing dangerous to happen withs zis one... I've never controlled it before since it's off." Of course the best way to copy a power and be sure he was getting the one he wanted was skin to skin contact and to let down his shields.
He tried to relax but knowing what was coming that seemed a little bit impossible. Jude slid a hand cooled by the night air along Svetlana's cheek until his hand cupped her face. If she activated him and he was actively trying to copy her... could they skip the lava phase?
He nodded and leaned his cheek down so that it rested against the crown of her head. It was too personal a thing to ask and look her in the eye. He tried not to get his hopes up. Tried not to think of it as personal. She would do it to activate his power. Not because she liked him or anything.
"Only if you want to." He whispered because anything more than that at this distance would feel too loud. Jude would never force her or try to trick her like he had before. It had to be her choice.
He turned them around again. Just two normal people dancing alone in a park with no music well away from human kind. Yep. A normal evening.
"Adults can stay zere too. Just usually people sink adults should be able to take care of zemselves." That didn't mean that they always could or even that they were always as adult as they looked, but Jude shrugged it away.
And Chase agreed to go visiting. Jude planned to take him to the Mansion first. He seemed like a good kid and good kids belonged at the Mansion. What that said about Jude who had left, he wasn't quite sure.
Residue, hmm? Jude inspected the hat. It didn't look too gross. In fact, it looked like a normal hat. But Chase wanted him to put it on. So he did.
It felt snug on his head at first and then he felt the twinge. Something made a tight twisting sound like leather and with a start, Jude realized that is was his skin. Little packets of flesh sort of like the internal bits of an orange started twisting. The outer bits of his body were moving while the inside of him sat on the bench.
It was unnerving as hell.
Jude knocked the hat off his head in hopes that would stop the sensation and stop the shift. He understood now. This kind of changing was a little different than anything else he'd experienced so far.
Her laugh made him laugh. It was just that contagious. As she finished her twirl, he was ready to catch her. His hand slipped around her waist and that left them pressed closer than was polite, but just perfect for a slow dance. "I told you zat I wasn't much of a dancer." But slow dancing was just fine. It just required holding and some gentle stepping back and forth and sometimes slightly around. He just hoped that he didn't step on her feet.
> "I like to dance, but we really could be out here all night and not get any work done..."
She was smiling at the idea, but it made him frown. "Sorry." Svetty was right. He wasn't here to flirt. He was here to help... only... in order to help he needed a kiss. Somehow Jude found himself smiling again just fine.
He cleared his throat hoping that the falling dark would hide his amusement at the thought. "I would like to help you." He turned them both gently in their simple dance. "But I only know one way to activate a mutant power..." He never did find that other blonde.
"I'm talking about controlling when your power activates instead of waiting or stressing or whatever zey say at ze Mansion. In my possible futures zere were two options, boths blonde." He winked at Aedus, who, as a fellow man, would totally know what he was talking about. "I found one before I came back to work here." No point in being useless. Again, Aedus would surely know that sentiment.
But he wasn't sharing Svetty with this flirt. No, they would have to find that other blonde if he wanted to purposefully trigger his mutation. Jude mused over their option while Katrina rattled off some options of how to join their little band of brigands.
"Why don't we start by exchanging phone numbers? I have a cell and zere is a landline in here for zis store. Zat way if you are in trouble or you start puking lava, we can help. Same deal for us. You said to call if we ever need help again." Jude spread his hands to showcase their surroundings. It looked like there had been an epic fight. In reality, no one had been home when the place got trashed.
"I don't sink zere is a schedule, we usually just text everyone to get here." He shrugged.
The gloves came off. Jude grinned and held out his hand half way between them, palm facing Svetlana. Her hand met his like they were comparing sizes— his was larger, for the record. There were no fireworks. Maybe a little speed up in the heart beating side of things, but no double coffee buzz. Just Svetlana's.
Jude took his hand back, closed his eyes and gathered his eyebrows as he felt for his own power. It was hard to try to find his power. It usually just sort of sprang up like an excited puppy when there was a viable mutation around for copying like an itch in a place he couldn't scratch. The powers that he felt most readily were the ones he was currently copying. In this case… nothing.
"Copying an inactive power was an accident. I don't sink my power wanted it, but I touched him without holding back." He frowned and opened his eyes. Was it darker already? "I didn't sink inactive powers could be copied." In other words, he had thought that the other guy was safe.
And he reeeeeally didn't want to see this particular power get activated. Lava was always a bad idea.
"Turns out, zis isn't ze best power to help you practice…" He shrugged apologetically. Well, at least he was "safe" for her for now. Jude held out his hand again. He would need to get activated again before he would be useful to Future Sight, but if Svetty wanted a moment of safe interaction first, he wouldn't begrudge her that.
"Before I get un-safe, is zere anysing you want to do? Dancing perhaps?" He gave her a twirl. There was nothing like dancing in the dark.
Svetlana seemed content to look out the window. Jude looked out the window too but letting Svetlana sit in a window seat meant that the Frenchman had the satisfaction of seeing Svetty and the scenery at the same time. The setting sun tinted her skin with fire.
He insisted they stop for food at the station and he even had the foresight to pick up a flashlight before they wandered into a lonely forest as night approached. They joked and walked, paused to check for human life and continued on their merry way. By the time they made it to the park and had walked a safe distance within, it was the violet hour and Jude was wishing he had packed a four course picnic dinner and a lantern instead of the incredibly non-romantic station food and flashlight.
"You okay?" They had been walking a while and the sun was lost behind the trees, but there was enough light that he didn't bother switching the flashlight on just yet. He had, however, tugged his sleeves down so that they covered his arms. "You sink zis is far enough?" Short of taking a plane, Jude figured this had to be it.
Coffee, coffee, coffee who needed coffee when Svetlana was around. He could have jumped and whooped and hollered, but instead he walked. And he let her hold his arm. And he sincerely hoped that his power was still active... or that if he required a kiss that he would go all lava on her. That would be embarrassing. Sorry, Svetty. I didn't mean to melt your lips off of your face.
"I sink a job would be good. It's good to get out every now and again."
He wished a million times over that he could offer her one. Then she would be as up to date on Sebastian's doings as he was. Which, was pretty slim at the moment.
"Still no word, I guess."
It was a couple blocks to the subway. And a couple stops to the train station after that.
"So you are wanting to hear from zem so you could move back in? So you wouldn't have to live alone? I mean, you're worried for zere safety too." Obviously. But living alone was a bit scary too, especially after a home invasion in the place that was home invaded. But it made Jude want to move away from Future Sight. He wouldn't be able to stay away forever. Obligations and all that. But Ghost wasn't there and Sebastian wasn't there. He could live at the Iris Apartments.
From the map, and a few helpful brochures, it looked like the best route was North. There were several parks big enough to put Central to shame and the lack of roads out there usually meant less of a population. So he got them two tickets to Pomona with the intention of hiding away in Tuxedo Park.
Jude's leather jerkin didn't fit very well. That was what he got, buying off the rack.
Dominic and Jude heaved the iron maiden off its wheels and into two of the guys with guns. One jumped out of the way in time. One did not. That was a crunching sound that could not be un-heard.
That left one for each of them and, though Jude did not have a lot of adult hand-to-hand combat experience, he did have a tail. Really, that should have given him the upper hand. Instead, it just seemed to get in the way.
"Ow!" Dominic stepped on it and Jude spun around to whack the Satan worshiper. His tail, in turn, whacked the guy approaching from behind. Ha ha! He was so surprised, the guy took a step back and Jude took that opportunity to lunge... to lunge... Dominic took a step forward to crack his whip at the guy who was lunging at him and thus released Jude's tail from under foot.
Jude's opponent had his wits back, leveled his gun and promptly got a face full of flailing red guy whose balance was off thanks to a sudden release of his tail and previous attempts at lunging forward. His gun went off but his gun got knocked out to the side and the shot went wide.
They landed in a heap together on the ground, Jude on top. So of course he took the opportunity to punch the guy in the face.
OW! Turns out faces are BONY and hitting them really hard HURTS. He shook out his hand and scrabbled for the dazed man's gun instead. Once he had it in hand he turned it around and hit him with the back side. He groaned, but quit fighting back after that.
Armed, Jude turned to look after Dominic, but he had his opponent well in hand. His whip was around the other man's neck and he was whispering things into the guy's ear. Only, the guy seemed to have passed out a while ago. From fear or from asphyxiation, Jude couldn't tell. Yeah. Dominic's stories were just. that. good.
> "Beloved devotees! The devil seeks to stop us! Show him the strength of your faith!"
"Are you kidding me?"
They all drew weapons, guns or knives... did that guy have a chain? Really? Really?
"Dude. I'm not Satan." They didn't seem to care. Jude even tried tossing away the gun. Nope. That guy still had a chain.
"Run?" Dominic had never suggested anything better. Okay, maybe the Iron Maiden came close.
The countryside... alone? He tried not to look too happy about that. "I sink we could find a train out to somewhere." There were trains... to places... Jude stood and offered his hand to Svetlana. "Come on. Let's go out to the countryside." If he knew how to sail, he would have suggested they go out on the ocean. But since he didn't this was the next best thing really.
Of course, he had to be back in time for work tomorrow. He wasn't going to let that spoil his time or cut this short. He offered his hand to her in order to help her up. If she allowed him, he would pull it right into the crook of his arm as they walked.
"So what do you do withs yourself all day?" Last time they chatted she didn't have a job. Actually, it sounded like she didn't really go out much at all.
"Yeah..." Once she pulled her hand away he scratched the back of his neck.
"About zat... I don't sink a kiss is necessary. Not zat it wouldn't be nice." Just in case she was confused on the point, he was quick to clear that up. "My power, still wants to copy yours but I'm not sure it can. Don't really want to try..."
He wanted to be safe for her. Also... he would have to try to copy a power later to see if he could. Otherwise, she would have to give him a kiss, right? To reactivate his power... err... hopefully it would be his power...
"I haven't tried copying anysing else because I wanted to be safe. So... I hope I can." Now... how to go about testing her power? "What do you want to do?"
