The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jude watched them go. That was what he wanted, sort of. "How do you do it?" Women were frightening in numbers. Jude had seen Aurum turn them away with grace and poise and the women somehow thought they'd won.
"Living withs one woman would be scary enough." He huffed a sigh.
"Zat's good. I wouldn't want to turn into goop." Jude still eyed the railing with serious distaste. The bus was just so... undignified. In a way it was fun. The giant metal carriage sighed and groaned like a monster and if they got going faster than the people walking outside then everything inside got all bouncy.
Chase seemed happy to see the people roll past. Jude tried to keep a responsible eye on the stop. Eventually they pulled out of town and up to a rather lonely looking bit of grass next to the corner of a brick wall.
"Zis is it." Jude stood and realized that there wasn't anyone left on the bus but the two of them. Well, the Mansion wasn't exactly central to the city. "Zis is only ze corner. It's a little bit of a walk to get to ze gate... sorry." Busses didn't make stops where it was convenient for people. Only where it was convenient for the busses.
Jude heard the sound of someone getting hit. Hard. The young devil caught Dominic's arm.
"We can't." Jude spoke with a conviction that Dominic easily matched.
"You're right, the children..." Hope welled in Jude's chest. "Those goody two shoes won't be sacrificing anybody!" Dominic spit in disgust off to the side. Hope died. But in a way, it didn't matter. The guy was willing (wanting?) to march to hell and back before he would let those people have the kids. Jude would take what he could get.
And what they could get was the whip Dominic had been using before and had lost in the tangle and a big gun. Jude had never used a gun before. Certainly not one this big. He had to prrrrrryyyyy it out from under the edge of the maiden, but he got it.
The two men looked at each other once, nodded and waded back into the fray. They would not be trying to leave again.
Dominic jumped in to help the security guard. The security guard didn't look happy to have the help even if Dominic's whip took out the reach advantage of the other guy's chain.
Jude went to help the other guy, but... angel wings kept talking and talking and talking.
He leveled the gun at the fanatic's wings and pulled the trigger. The shots were so loud in the close space that Jude's ears rang and the shots were so strong and automatic that the gun kicked and sort of sprayed up toward the ceiling after a few good shots.
"Wow." That sounded kind of horrible and really boring. And he couldn't help but wonder if it was sentimental because it was a dream about the past. He'd never thought of his time in the future as sentiment. At first, he'd thought of it as gospel. A perfect prediction of the future.
How wrong he turned out to be.
"Ghost. We were mutation partners in ze future for ze whole Gulf Stream sing." He twirled his finger in the air. In a way, he was lucky that his future had been focused entirely on learning the finer points of control of his power and how it interacted with another's power. As it turned out, he was doing the same things today just in a different way.
"I had to go along on her vigilante trips to make sure she came back to ze program." He was hoping that she was just on one of those little vigilante trips now. The Future Sight team had promised to look for her, but... that really wasn't their priority right now. "Zis Ghost here and now is a lot more..." he had to cast about for the right word to fit what he needed. "A lot more meek zan the one I knew."
She hadn't yet been changed to be that Ghost. That was where the future and the past differed.
"How was it more zan a year?" He didn't ask her like he didn't believe her, he asked because he legitimately wanted to know. If anyone was willing to believe her, it was Jude.
He juggled the glass into a trash bin and only managed to scrape himself in the process. Not enough to bleed, just enough to sting. The frenchman shook his hand out over the bin just to be sure all the glass was there instead of clinging. Now most of what was left were the really big beams.
"I sink you'll be okay too. I remember waking up and sinking zis was ze dream. It took me a long time to realize I wasn't going back." That was about the time when he got really depressed and then Ghost showed up. She really had saved him.
"You had someone withs you, non?" He chucked a small chunk of wood at the trash can across the room and flicked his wrist like it was a basketball shot. It clanged inside noisily. Trash cans had much larger hoops than basketball goals. "It's good to stick close withs someone who understands. At least at first."
Would hey believe a moose beat him up? At some point the truth was just too weird to share. Like being a kid who felt grown up. See? Jude could learn.
"Guess I haven't seen you since I grew up, huh?" Jude stepped in only after he'd been invited. Not because he was a vampire, but because he was polite. He left his sunglasses on. "Thank you. For taking care of Svetlana. And sorry to barge in on your lunch."
Lunch and Svetty was still in her pajamas? He wanted to hold out his hand to her and be double sure nothing bad would happen with this power... but that could wait. "I can wait if you want to finish up or... change?" He turned his head to Svetlana. The question really was for her. Because he wanted to talk to her more than anyone else in this building.
"No, Ami..." He tried to explain. Really. Women! Aurum was the stabilizing element, sending Ami away before she did something really ugly. "It's me, Jude." He explained it to Aurum without thinking. He knew Aurum. He knew Ami. Ami and Aurum should know him.
Svetty popped into view, adorable in her pajamas with sleepy hair. She waved. Jude waved back. Why were Ami and Aurum both in the way? He just wanted to see Svetlana...
A bus came and went, but it wasn't the right number. Jude double, triple checked just in case as they waited.
"I feel zat running is more fun in a game withs a goal. Running just to run iz frustrating." The frenchman shrugged. "I never was good at legos or building anysing eithser." Really, his skill set was rather small. In the future he'd been a professional mutant. Now, here he was, mutant again. It wasn't a very marketable skill, but he'd made a living off it before...
Before he could get too philosophical on the subject their bus arrived. Jude swiped his card twice, once for each of them and then took a seat. "I wouldn't touch anysing you don't have to." He warned Chase with a smile. "Lots of people. Maybe worse zan putting on a hat."
Though he was curious what either one of them might look like if they held onto a handrail or something. Maybe half-asian with a blonde afro and blue eyes? "Would you only turn into one person? If you touch somesing in here? Or a mix of anybody and everybody?"
Quick to judge? Jude pushed his pile into the dust pan Katrina held as he drew out of his own thinking to tackle what Katrina had said. Once the pan was full, he stopped and took the sunglasses off. Seemed that he didn't need them now and it was troublesome to keep them on.
"Are you alright?" His tone was gentle. It was clear he didn't think there was anything wrong with her, but that something had to have happened for the change of heart. He knew about her year just as surely as she knew about his ten. A bit different, but somehow quite the same.
"So long as you're alright, I take it as a compliment zat you sink differently now." Apparently looking older really did make all the difference. He didn't feel that he acted all that much different. Maybe a few less dino tee shirts and maybe he kept his tongue in his head a bit more now instead of stick it out at whoever deserved it, but really... he didn't feel too different.
"Do you feel very different?"
He realized that the back room was as swept as he could manage without picking up more of the debris so Jude leaned the broom against the wall and tried to carefully pluck up the larger pieces of glass that had once made up the front portion of a cupboard.
"Ami." Jude blinked and readjusted his sunglasses. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but whatever it was... it wasn't that. "May I speak withs Svetlana, please?"
Jude shifted on his feet. He hadn't seen Ami since he'd grown and now it seemed a bit strange. He didn't think it seemed right hearing those words out of a young girl's mouth. And it was weird to think of her as a young girl... but then again he'd always thought of her as too young for his tastes...
Chase made things easier. Jude always wore his own clothes so all he had to do was copy and hold until he got his next power. Today, the frenchman brought a book as a thank you. It belonged to the Mansion library, but still.
"So, just be careful okay? Keep those in your wallet."
No. He was going to hide them under his pillow. Jude stuffed the string of little foil packets in his pocket before anyone else saw what was Eros had decided he needed.
Thank you, Alister, for tipping off Eros. No, he would not bring Svetty in to this. Not even if they begged.
They let him off the hook for future duty after the first client took a look at his colorful bruising and asked if a client had done that to him. Turns out, if they think you got hit in the face for being a fake, it's that much harder to convince them to part with their cash.
So he got the day off. Well, not really. He was supposed to be on the look out for Sebastian, but Jude only had one thing on his mind.
He cleaned up, made sure he had his sunglasses and made his way out to town. He was already at Aurum's door before he realized what he was doing was real and not him future gazing.
Ami didn't believe him. It was written all over her face.
Well, she didn't have to believe him. He knew the truth and besides, he had a waffle to eat. And pout at. But it was so good the pouting didn't last long. Besides, things were looking up with Gina's answer. No laser beams to worry about.
At least the girls seemed to be getting along. Jude ate in relative silence racing against time as the warm waffle melted the cold ice cream.
"Don't need time to cool down." It was disorienting and often draining, but a simple and straight forward guy like this was no problem, really. "But if you really want to explore your options, we should probably sit down." Except... that... as he looked around, really there wasn't any good place to sit.
Jude shrugged and offered Aedus a handshake after Kat. The conversation seemed to be winding down, but they could take a peek at his future again. All three of them apparently.
So he lowered his sunglasses.
And looked him real good in the eye.
And then slid the glasses back up onto his nose as he cleared his throat.
"I sink a second reading will have to wait." He looked at Kat meaningfully from behind his sunglasses (so the look was probably lost altogether) before he went right back to sweeping.
The guy didn't have a mutation yet. So why didn't Jude have Alister's power anymore? He shoved the broom hard across the floor like it was the floor's fault.
"You always turn back to normal because you always have your power. Imagine it like you get stuck." He'd certainly gotten stuck with unwanted mutations before.
And of course, of course Chase wanted to know what girls had to do with it. "Girls have everysing to do withs it. I love a grown up girl. She would be very sad if I became a little boy." Okay. He didn't know that she would be sad, but he hoped she would be sad. Or... at least notice. He sighed.
"Let's get you to ze Mansion. See if zey have any rooms you like." Jude stood. His woman-woes would be wasted on a kid, but that didn't mean that they didn't have plenty to talk about still.
"So what do you do? When you're not running away or changing skin?" The frenchman started to hail a taxi, but remembered the few dollars in his billfold. He had a bus card. That would have to do. He led them to a bus shelter and checked the schedule. Not too horrible. They could wait. "I like basketball, but I'm a little too short to be any good." Though, 5'10" was a serious improvement over his previous 4'4".
