The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The door would not close. He tried harder despite the ows. This was not a morning when he wanted to deal with this. They'd just gotten the new couches in for goodness sakes!
"Alister iz asleep and he did not warn me of you." He was a wriggly one wasn't he? Also, so not welcome. But the unicorn...
Jude let the door go and took a solid step back. It was that or risk spilling his coffee even more all over himself. Coffee just wasn't in the cards for him this morning. There were little brown rivers of it going down his arm, pooling at his elbow and dripping onto a purple shag rug that looked more anemone than welcome mat. It was like a grape koolaid man vomited all over everything in here.
"Letitia is not decorating next time." He muttered to himself as he transferred the half cup to his other hand and flicked droplets away from himself. If those droplets happened to stain a certain unwelcome person, so be it.
"We don't do readings for free." Jude felt the need to inform him because, well the guy looked like crap. The frenchman at least had the dignity to put on sunglasses.
Why Ghost liked this stupid cat, he didn't know. But she did. So if Jude wanted to find Ghost this guy was a decent chance of being in her future. No matter what cat boy wanted to see, that was what Jude wanted to see.
It wasn't until Jude took a drink of his coffee that he realized the sugar he'd so generously ladled into his cup? Yeah. That was salt.
He had to have picked up Alister's power some time last night because he hadn't been able to sleep very soundly with his own future haunting him. There was a fight brewing. Sometimes with armies behind them, sometimes alone, sometimes it wasn't even Sebastian that Jude got into a fight with. It was some chick he'd never seen before. Some chick that scared the bejeezus out of Svetlana.
Something made the front door bump repeatedly against its frame. The Frenchman splashed water on his face before he looked at the clock. Probably a drunk or maybe a paper delivery? Jude poured out the entire cup of coffee and went back to the pot for a refill.
If it was a drunk, he had better go chase the guy off their stoop. If it was a paper delivery, well, it wouldn't hurt to have something to read since he couldn't seem to sleep.
Jude fumbled some mirrored sunglasses out from behind the register and slipped them on over his bruised nose before he went for the door.
It wasn't a drunk or a newspaper. It was Calley, the jerk cat boy who stole his breakfast eggs, raided his wardrobe and made himself a general pain to a non-mutated Jude child. Only now Jude was a man. "Not open yet." The door started slamming even before he'd finished.
Had he met Riley? "I don't believe I've had ze pleasure." Jude smiled enough that it crinkled the faint bruise left on his nose. He stepped up for a hand shake. She waved her hand at him instead. Jude changed his offered hand into a wave back to Riley before things got too awkward.
"I... uhh. I brought chocolate." Jude lifted the plastic net bag full of foil wrapped chocolate oranges. "Hope zat is okay?" Things were in full swing already and it smelled amazing. He just wasn't entirely sure what was appropriate for this kind of tradition the Americans had. Wasn't chocolate always a good thing to have on hand when women were about? He had felt more confident about it before he smelled the smells.
He scrubbed at the smudge. Nobody stopped him. They knew Ghost would have wanted it that way too.
"Nobody wants to kidnap me." They'd had plenty of opportunities. He went out alone all the time. He'd even lived on the street for a time. No one would have even noticed he was gone if he'd been taken then. Not a soul.
Now, Svetlana at least would notice. Alister would notice when he didn't show up when he was supposed to. Eros and the kids too... They were all in this together now. Jude had thrown his lot in with them.
The handprint ended up smudging around more than going away and Katrina thought it was time to leave. Jude wasn't sure where the towel should go. He wet it down again and wiped at the brown smudge. The outline was left and that made it hard to ignore the fact that it was a hand shape.
Somebody had been here that wasn't supposed to be. Jude gripped the towel in his fist, ducked under the tape and stomped down the stairs. How did this all get so messed up?
Forehead. The last time she kissed him, it had been his forehead. Not this time. His hand cupped her cheek. He could see her blush in the moonlight and he knew what he wanted. Not the power. Just the love and kisses. Unfortunately, he couldn't get one without the other.
"Zere are phones in ze library." And probably one in the kitchen now that he thought about it. "You can use the phones, easy."
Jude accepted the articles, copied down his number and returned the things to Chase's care. "Good luck!" Now. Time to get out of here before anyone recognized him or his old roommate and poker buddy remembered that he owed him a shoe.
"Ghost had a gun." He spoke the words normally and it was like thunder in the enclosed space, but somehow made it less spooky for him. "At least, she knew how to use one." In the future she did, anyway. She'd kept her military weapon in pieces despite regulation. Safety and all that. If she had one in the here and now, he'd never seen it.
Katrina was right. They just didn't lead exciting enough lives for this.
Jude felt like the bedroom was a well of gravity that he couldn't escape. This was surreal. The room was in pieces a lot like the rest of the apartment. Everything was just... gone. This whole time he imagined it going on like normal. Ghost cooking. Sebastian, probably studying at the table until Ghost asked him to set it. They might watch a movie and do the dishes.
He imagined how it went down. Just a normal night like any other night.
"Svetlana wasn't here. I wasn't here. Zey probably went to bed early." The sink was full of blood and broken glass. He looked at the remaining pieces of glass and tried not to imagine what had slammed against it to make that circular shape.
"I don't sink we're going to get anysing here." Nothing but speculation. There weren't any major road signs that screamed out obvious answers for him. Nothing he wanted to see anyway.
"Police sink he killed her." He stopped to admire the brownish smudge that Katrina was inspecting. His brain wouldn't make sense of the shape. Why was it so interesting? It was just dirty. "Ghost wouldn't have wanted her things so dirty." It was easy to talk about her in the past tense. Jude grabbed a hand towel and wet it down in order to clean off the smudge.
Chocolate was not as impressive as wine, but it required a lot less identification to buy. Also it didn't require for him to cook anything. He didn't want to do anything but eat if he could help it. Eat and have a good time.
He knocked at the door and wondered if he would really know anybody here. (Well, anyone besides the lovely Svetlana.) Why was he coming again? Oh right. The food. (And Svetty.)
"Yeah." He fumbled with the sunglasses, still unused to doing some things without the aid of sight. "We'll find her. You're right." At least, Svetlana would.
Once the glasses were in place, Jude leaned in a a quick cheek kiss. His power always behaved better when he had recently used the power he was holding onto. Like it was less likely to want to switch when it realized what he had was good for something.
"Uh. I guess I'll call you?" He stuck his hands deep down in his pockets. Today, he'd learned a lot of what he wasn't ready for and not as much about what he wanted. That was how the future worked.
Now, it was time to figure out what to do for the present. He could ask Sebastian directly... or maybe he could figure out a little bit more on the other woman first. That took a lot less courage.
Hooves clattered past, but that wasn't what Jude was interested in. He was interested in the not dead and very much alive and horrified Ghost. The hair was different. The clothes too. She didn't look entirely well, but she certainly wasn't dead.
How would Jude be able to convince the police of that? That meant Sebastian was innocent of her murder. Where was this? When was this? He searched for clues, but there was so much going on his head that he couldn't hold onto that moment.
The thread tugged and Jude was juggling two sons, one with diaper off. Svetlana was laughing at him. So little and brand new. The thread tugged, Christmas trees. Not angry and attacking ones either. Muse was ice skating. The thread tugged and tugged further and further along, but Jude had closed his eyes.
"Thanks." It didn't tell him anything useful besides the fact that she was alive. And that Svetlana and him would still hang out when the babies had come.
4 was too much money and they wouldn't sell him just 1. So 3. One for mommy and one for each kid. He hadn't been in that future glimpse anyway.
"We are friends at least." He confirmed that much as he passed her the flowers without touching her. How hard were these to grow, he wondered? "Zere was no one else I wanted to talk to more today."
Because she was the best chance to find Ghost? No. Because she knew where he was coming from and she believed in him even when he was moping.
"Help me look in ze future one more time? I sink enough time has passed since we touched." And taking a look ahead did not require more touching... Even roommates didn't technically have to touch. Just, that he wanted to...
How... "Does it all come down to finding ze perfect power?" Jude stuffed his hands in his pockets. His power pointed at Svetlana. Her power was right there. Totally still an option.
"Maybe we are sinking about zis all wrong. We can't break up before we ever date." Could they? He voted no.
"We kind of skipped a bunch of steps in fact. How do normal people start ziz off?" It felt like a million years since he had picked up a girl, flirted, asked her out all official like...
Svetty and Jude had already lived together, in fact. Yep. Skipped too many steps. He steered them into a flower shop. Screw saving for kids. People just starting to date shouldn't know that twins were in their future.
"Do you sell blue roses?" The shop assistant pointed them to a small section with a few bouquets.
She didn't know. He didn't know. He felt like he was getting dumped before they'd even actually been on a proper date.
"What we saw... Zat wasn't a date. And ze children... I wasn't zere." They might not have been his kids at all.
They should talk about something else now or go on a walk if they weren't going to snuggle. Jude stood. Sebastian was right. Being a grown up was hard, but as a child this situation would have been much worse. "I can't just sit. Walk withz me?" He had been hoping this talk would cheer him up...
Could it work? He tried to think on that question seriously instead of just insisting. "I want it to work." He also wanted to hold that blushing cheek in his hand or capture her hand in his. Neither was a good idea until he could get a handle on his control. His power waved inside of him pointing emphatically just in case he hadn't figured out that she was a mutant yet. It wanted him to hold her too.
"I don't sink I would trust myself to fall asleep touching you..." Seriously, where was their own personal island? "I don't even know if sleeping in the same room would be a good idea."
Now he sounded a bit miserable again. "Do you sink it could work?" Plenty of people dated without living together and eventually he assumed that he would be the boss of his own power and she would be the boss of hers. Just... It would take time and practice.
Jude's power, he imagined in different states depending on what he wanted it to do. When seeking a new power, it clung to him loosely like a an invisible hand or searching wind that pointed out his options. Before he had control over it, the choosing had felt random. The wind would pick up anything that passed through it.
Now it was easiest to pick a power up with a touch. The wind would point them out, but unless there were no other options around, it wouldn't stay pointing at, for example, Alister when the rest of the Future Sight gang was around. His power didn't care which one he wanted. It just merrily danced around between options trying to grab whatever it could. Jude had contained that, but that was why he had to touch people to pull their power.
He imagined it like a child at the grocery store, arm ever reaching. He kept it inside the metaphorical shopping cart, literally inside himself so when it needed to hold something he had to put it in that hand himself. Now, touching Muse for so long, the arm was getting impatient for what was on the shelf right next to it. It tried to let go of its current power and ooze over to get the new one.
The resolve Jude held over his power softened the longer he stayed close. After she spoke, he sighed and gave Svetty one last good squeeze before letting her go and scooting away for some distance. It wouldn't help anyone if he just let it have whatever it wanted. Someday, he'd have it trained to go fetch things for him, but today he just had to get a little space.
"What would the right power be?" His power didn't tell him what his options were, only that he had options and, of course, that it wanted them. "It took me a while to find ze right people to help me stay looking like myself. Even if we know what we're looking for, it doesn't mean we'll find it when we need it." They could spend their time looking for Ghost or they could spend their time looking for the right power to find Ghost. Seemed to Jude that they should just keep trying to find her.
"Svetlana?" He rubbed his eyes behind his sunglasses. It was possible that they already had the power that could help them find her, but he wasn't good enough at using it to make it do what he wanted. "Are you... I mean, will you be my girlfriend?"
