Character
Personality: Jayden will tell anyone he feels himself to be somewhat of a conundrum. He is conservative in his approach to life and social situations, but liberal in his ideologies. He has a wicked sense of humor, but only around those he is comfortable around. He can be the life of the party, but again only around people he knows and trusts. He does not trust easily and can be seen as standoffish by those who don’t know him. Even those who know him still say he seems to be reserved and guarded. This stems mostly from his mutation and how it can manifest if his emotions are not in control. He is also known to be cool and critical of those around him, and well known for “shade” and “reads” when aggravated. The only time he is truly expressive in his emotions is when he is expressing rage, or in protection mode of those he loves.
Jayden is incredibly competitive, especially with himself, holding himself to a very high standard. This standard permeates every aspect of his life, school, job, social status. Many believe him to be a social climber, but truly he feels that there is no point in settling ever. This has led him to forgo many things, including much of a romantic life, as he is constantly working toward some goal.
Jayden is fiercely loyal to the social group he has create and anyone who he may eventually get to know. In his eyes, his friends and family can do no wrong, and he will stand behind them publicly no matter what. Behind closed doors he will be incredibly critical and let his true feelings be known.
He is also materialistic, liking to make money but also spend it very quickly. For Jayden it isn’t always about the label, but more about the look, how it makes him feel, or being a one-of-a-kind item. If he was being honest with himself he would admit that he probably has a shopping addiction as he gets a euphoric feeling when buying items and can become visibly agitated when he has money but doesn’t know what to buy.

Job or part time job and description: Jayden is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and specifically works with young adults living with personality disorders.

Special talents: When alone Jayden sings very well, but he self-sabotages in front of others because he does not believe his voice is good enough to be heard by the public.
Morality
Good/ Bad/ Neutral/ Other: Chaotic Good- Jayden is a “good guy” and believes in right over wrong. However, he also believes that sometimes to achieve the greatest good rules must be broken or corners cut. He would also stand behind someone he loves, even knowing they are wrong.
Feelings toward Humans: Fine, he judges each individual on their presentation and actions.
Feelings toward Adapteds: Jayden has never met one, but is slightly fearful from things he has heard.
Feelings toward Mystics: Awe and slight jealousy. Jayden believes in the esoteric and occult and part of him wishes he was a Mystic.
Mutations
Mutation description: Emotional Control Through Aura Manipulation
Jayden’s mutation allows him to perceive the emotional state of others through an “aura” around them that is visible to him. The dominant emotional state of a person is indicated by the brightest and most prevalent color in their aura. Once Jayden is able to see their aura, he can then change dominant color of their aura, thereby changing their emotional state by imprinting his own aura and its dominant emotion on the target(s).
Strengths:
Manipulating emotions helps Jayden achieve outcomes easier when dealing with people. Such as calming irate clients, inducing fear in someone trying to intimidate or attack him, or soothing someone in anguish.
Unless Jayden has been using his ability for a sustained long period of time (more than 15 minutes) the auric manipulation is not visible to anyone who does not have innate psychic abilities.
Siphoning off his emotions on others helps Jayden to maintain control of his own emotions.
Jayden can manipulate the “group aura” of a small group of people, at a max 4, if they are all feeling the relatively same emotion.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
Those with psychic mutations are infinitely less susceptible to auric manipulation.
Prolonged or intense use of his mutation causes Jayden’s aura to become visible to the naked eye and morphs into a set of wing-like antenna sprouting from his temples.
Prolonged or intense use of his mutation emotionally drains Jayden, leaving him in a stoic state and unable to use the mutation again for some time.
The more intense a person is feeling an emotion, the harder it is for Jayden to manipulate it.
Trying to change one emotion to another that is completely counterpoint to it, such as joy to anguish, is also more difficult than going from similar emotions such as joy to adoration.
Jayden cannot manipulate the “group aura” of large groups or small groups feeling the same intense emotion.
If Jayden is not in control of his own emotions, he cannot control what emotion he will transfer to his target.
Also, if Jayden is feeling one emotion intensely, such as rage, that will be the only emotion he can transfer.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Jayden has average physical capabilities. Because he played tennis in both college and high school, and enjoys nature walks and walking in general, he maintains a healthy body.
Fighting Style: Jayden has no formal training in any fighting style.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Jayden might be able to hold his own in a physical fight with someone else with no training. But if the person had formal training his best bet would be to instill fear in them through his mutation and run.
History Of Your Character
According to Jayden’s mother she was a country mouse who birthed a city cat. Jayden was born in the small town of Rocky Mount, North Carolina two a retired military father who worked at the post office, and a schoolteacher mother. He is the middle child and the second boy with the older brother and younger sister. From an early age Jayden was always his own person, and very different from his brother and sister, and really the entire family. His family was into sports, especially football and basketball, and Jayden couldn’t be bothered to care about either. He loved to read, where his siblings preferred to be glued to the TV. His taste in food, fashion, music, everything was opposite of what his family enjoyed. But, they never made him feel odd or shunned him for it. His family was both loving and protective of him, which instilled that same sense of loyalty and protection in young Jayden.
His father knew from a young age that Jayden was gay, but he never treated him different. However, he was always watchful, and tried to teach Jayden what he thought best, and that was to hone down some of his more expressive ways. Living in a small mostly rural town like Rocky Mount, Jayden’s father knew that the attention his young son could get from the locals would not always be good. And so very early Jayden learned to control his emotions, be less expressive, and be guarded. To make up for constricting his son’s ability to express his father made up for it be feeding into his eccentricities. He bought him all the books, all the clothes, and trinkets that he wanted, if he performed well in school. Thus, Jayden grew up believing every action deserve reward. As he grew older, he continued to achieve and excel and the thrill of doing better than others and receiving something tangible for it became his motivation in life. And when that stopped, when his parents now believed as a teenager that Jayden needed to learn that not everything gets a reward, even if you excel at it, his mutation manifested. Jayden was so upset at having worked hard to get the highest grade in his advanced placement psychology class, and not receive money or a gift, that the control he had learned to place over his emotions snapped. The young mutant began to see red, literally. His entire vision was colored a bright red, that expanded to envelop his parents. In an instant his mother and father, who rarely fought in front of their children, if at all, where yelling and screaming at each other as if they were mortal enemies. Jayden starred in confusion as his brother and sister came into the room. As soon as they stepped in the field of red, they too became incensed, at what Jayden did not know. All too soon though, the arguing turned into a physical melee between all four members of his family. Jayden had no idea what was happening, but fear took over as he watched, and soon the field of red turned black. And just as quick as his family had started fighting, they were now cowering, as if living through their greatest nightmare or confront with their phobias. Jayden took a step toward them, and they cringed away, flinched away from each other, crying and sobbing.
Jayden had no idea what to do, so he ran. He ran out of the house, afraid of what just happened, afraid of what he had done without knowing it. The field of black surrounding him became darker, until he could barely see through it. In his back yard he hit a tree, the old plum tree that he and his siblings used to climb. That his grandfather would come a pluck plums from in the late summer. Jayden hugged that tree, crying, pleading with himself to calm down. His arms dug into the smooth bark, and he counted his heartbeats, like his father taught him too. It took a while, Jayden lost count several times, before he dared to open his eyes. When he did, the field of color was gone from his vision. Slowly he looked around, there were no strange colors anywhere. He turned back toward the house and couldn’t hear anything. When he finally made it in, his family was there, looking confused as they picked up turned over furniture and broken items. Only his mother had a knowing look in her eyes, but she motioned for Jayden to go to his room.
Later that night his mother came to him and explained about mutants and mutations. Apparently, Jayden had a cousin who was also a mutant, but no one knew where he was. His mutation had cause some kind of issue, and he ran away soon thereafter. Jayden told his mother what he experienced, and she impressed upon him further the need to control his emotions now more than ever. Jayden promised and the next day began to earnestly look for more ways to keep himself in check. It was through this search that Jayden stumbled upon some occult books. He learned about crystals and gems, and began to collect them, always keeping one on him. He would hold or rub it whenever he felt the need. He studied astrology and numerology, trying to give himself an edge on what the day might bring so that he could be emotionally prepared. But he also studied emotions, and how they effect people. This initially led him to studying psychology, especially abnormal psychology, but it felt to disconnected from actual people and real-world application. It was a school counselor who told Jayden that Social Work was basically the application of knowledge obtained through psychology and sociology. Taking an introductory course, Jayden was hooked. He felt that social work not only would give him tools to help himself but allow him to help others who were dealing with issues in their mind that effected their reality.
After graduation from North Carolina Central University with his bachelor’s in social work Jayden moved to NYC and attended Columbia University to obtain his Masters and began working in a local community mental health clinic. He found that from time to time a simple use of his mutant ability allowed him to build strong rapport with his clients, yielding better outcomes in their therapy. He opted not to let anyone in the agency know that. Once he obtained his licensure, Jayden began to do contracted work, become a therapist for small private schools, well off families with spoiled children, and some consultation work. Multiple streams of income has always been his mantra. He also began working on his Doctorate in Social Work, choosing that program over the PhD again because of the real-world application.

“It’s a look” Jayden said to himself as he smoothed out the yellow, gold, and chocolate deep V-neck sweater.
The brown-skinned social worker was preparing for another day of clinical assessments, checking himself in the mirror. Beneath the form fitting sweater was a chocolate button up, that was still a little lighter than the skin it covered. Jayden finished smoothing the sweater and then began to smooth his hair, not that it was long.
“I definitely need a shape-up though” Jayden said aloud, noticing that the line of hair across his forehead was no longer perfectly straight. It would have to do for now though, it was too late to try and schedule an appointment with Mike, his barber, but he could probably get in tomorrow.
Jayden looked down to make sure his pants were ok, and that the boots perfectly matched the chocolate accents of his sweater, and the shirt underneath. Of course, they did, he had bought them from the same designer, but it never hurt to check. Appearances were everything because perception informed reality, and Jayden made sure he was perceived as well put together and very much in charge.
As he was putting on the final touches, a mist of Nude by Rihanna accented by Invictus his phone began to buzz. Jayden made his final touches, placing a copper ring with a garnet setting on the small finger of his left hand before picking up the phone. The notification was from his agency’s messenger app.
Hi Jayden, just wanted to let you know, client 65783 is here to see you. I know he missed his appointment yesterday but he said he is ready today the message read
“I told that damn man!” Jayden began, frustration quickly rising at the inconvenience of a client showing up off schedule.
In the corner of his eyes Jayden began to see flashes of red, indication that his frustration was turning to anger. Taking deep breaths Jayden began to rub the garnet, his birth stone, on the ring and take deep breaths.
“Great Goddess, give me peace” he mumbled to himself as his mood began to calm.
When he felt himself sufficiently calm he picked up the phone and wrote a message back. Hey Michelle. Let him know I’m on my way, but since he is unscheduled if my clients who have scheduled and confirmed for the day come in he will have to wait he replied.
“And just for that, I’m stopping to get me a good ‘ole sausage and cheese biscuit and an apple fritter and Imma eat it right in his face!” Jayden said as he grabbed his messenger back and headed to the door.
