The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She could do rope... but, that would take time. "I can manage that..." Slapping her mouth shut, she severed the connection between herself and her guidline. "Don't lose sight of this thread, she cautioned, tugging on it slightly so he could see what she was talking about. "It will lead us all the way back out." With that off her mind, and out of the way, she consentrated on weaving together a handful of thread to make a slim, but sturdy rope. Once enough was woven that she could feel it on the tip of her tongue, she reached up and grasped it between her fingers. It was only a matter of twisting a little as she pulled to add to the strength of the rope, and that was easy when you were used to it.
The rope came out like a magic trick- much slower- but still quite the same. One long continuous strand of opaque silk, with a sparkle of saliva. She foucused so much on making the strands as quickly as possible, that she forgot about his warning to stand still. Her feet slipped under her and Megan plopped further down into the mud- up to her bust. She cursed clumsily and fumbled for footing, but only really succeded in shoving her feet into the thick mud deeper... A few more tense moments, and a few more inches lost into the mud, and she had a good sized rope ready. Long enough that she would probably be able to fling the end up and over the ledge. She snapped her teeth shut and severed the thread, then spat the end out at her side.
"I'm tossing it up, watch the end, its sticky." Despite her current situation, she grinned. "Don't drop me either, dying in a mud pit would really kill my day."
The creature shook its head, and Megan blinked. So, it was smart, or at least smart enough to understand her. Her inner workings paused. No... it was smarter than just some creature. When it nodded, her suspisions were confirmed. The dino was a person- a mutant- unless there was some freaky scientist running about making people into Dinosaurs.
"Well..." She pushed herself to her feet, and brushed her bum and legs off. "Now I just feel silly." She swivled her flashlight about, spotting her babies at the edge of the light, and narrowed her eyes. They pretty much abandoned her, they could rot for all she cared. Snubbing her nose at the curious spiders, she turned again and finally spotted her stun gun laying among a clump of weeds. "There you are!"
After retrieving the weapon, she tucked it in th back of her pants and turned back to face the Dino-person. "Alright, now... how the hell am i supposed to talk to you?" Pursing her lips, she thought on that question for a moment, then took notice of the way the dino was holding the flashlight. Maybe it could write... to bad she didn't have a pen and a pad of paper. Her eyes dropped to the ground. Soft, loose dirt. An idea sprouted, and she turned to search for a stick...
What she came back with was a decent sized length of wood, with wich to write in the dirt. "Alrighty, this aught to work." She held the stick out, and climbed up to Ambers level... Boy, she was big. Not super dino size... but still. "You know how to write, right?" After she got her response, she nodded. "Sweet. Are you a girl, or a boy? And what the crap are you doing out here in the middle of the night?"
Pulling her arms out of the mud, she wrinkled her nose in disgust. She was soaked to the skin with it, not to mention it was up her skirt, in her shorts, and seeping into her shoes. She heard the whisperings of her spiders and her frown loosened just a little. They recognized the trouble she was in- and even though it wouldn't help- a group of them were rushing to create a small rope with which to toss over the ledge. Like they had seen her do on a few occasions. "Cute." She muttered, trying to wipe away the gunk from the front of her shirt. She watched a shadow fall over her, and glanced up. Gawain had found her after all. The little spider he carried earned some serious brownie points. "And here I thought you guys just lacked creativity. I would've thrown a few pikes and bear traps in- had it been intentional." Digging her fingers into the sides of the pit, which was only big enough for about three people, she attempted to push herself up and lodge her foot on the other side- but the dirt was far to slippery. Megan growled lowly, and crossed her arms, leaning back against the side of the pit.
"Really? Your so kind. But I must admit, it is a little cramped for my liking." She paused, sloshed a foot around in the muck for a moment, and sighed. "And much to wet. And sticky." Wrinkling her nose, she stuck her tongue out at him, and waited. There wasn't much else to do besides waiting. Making a rope would take to long- though it wouldn't hurt to keep that in mind, and making fun of him would only hurt her chances of getting help. With another sigh, she tilted her head back and grumped. The old 'life is unfair' came to mind, but she pushed it away. Moping about ruined clothes (that weren't her own) would come later. Right now she... She was shrinking? Light blue eyes blinked, and she glanced at the wall across from her. Either her eyes were playing tricks on her, or the wall was moving upwards. Or maybe she was- "Ohmygod In sinking." A fact... that she was very unhappy about.
She scoffed right back. "I don't know what you're used to, but I rather like having my own room. I don't do sharing." Her feet took her further down the path, she turned a corner to her right- and ran straight into a dead end. Pausing, with a hand on her hip, she considered her options. It was far to early to turn back now... that would end the game, and she was just starting to have fun. "Don't worry about the kids family, I don't show my powers to those that don't deserve them." She stated off offhandedly, pushing an arm through the dead end to see if she could get to the other side.
Her wrist poked through, and she was able to waggle it about freely. Excellent. leaving her web dangling from her mouth, she struggled though- earning a few scrapes and scratches here and there- but eventually made it to the other side. She was quite proud of herself, too.
The spider with Gawain froze momentarily as Megan sent it instructions to follow her web and bring him that'a way. Then it resumed its bouncing and tilted its body as it regarded the human. After a moment, it sat back on its hid legs and raised its arms, a classic movement that just screamed 'pick me up! pick me up!' Megan Snorted at the web cam comment, "Ha ha. very funny."
She continued on her way, noticing a wet patch of earth in front of her, with a thick covering of climbing ivy that had leak out from the hedge next to it. Great. She really didn't want to get her shoes wet... "Yup, I can see what they see, and hear what they hear. Nifty aint it? Now, what were you saying about tr-" Her question was cut off as the ground under the ivy gave way under foot. She shrieked, and plummeted into a good sized hold. At the bottom, once she had collected herself, she noticed that she was waist deep in thick freezing mud. A scowl spread across her lips, and the resulting words the flew from her mouth would have made the ivy above her head shrivel and catch fire had it not been to wet....
She glanced up from trying to wipe a few bothersome strands of web from her hands onto her jeans. God, it could be so friggen sticky sometimes... Meld started off, and Megan followed, casting a quick glance over her shoulder as she moved. What a disaster... a fake spider had been her trophy. "Oh, a safehouse?" Her mind wandered back to old movies- a small broken down house on a deserted road, with curtains drawn aside and tommy guns pointed out windows just in case the coppers show up. Good times, good times.
"I see..." She also couldn't help but imagine Meld with a top hat and a cape, running with a hostage over her shoulder towards a set of train tracks and a chug-chug-chugging train on its way. She didn't seem to have a personality to match that image though, so she would have to leave it in her imagination banks for later. "Sounds good to me." Another moment of thinking to herself brought up more questions, and she blinked.
"Say, what brought you to the museum anyway, Meld? And how did you know Mr. FuzzyButt back there?" She got the impression from their banter that they went back a good deal, but didn't want to assume anything (or mention it for that matter) in case he was an vexed ex boy toy or something. If that were the case, it would make sense. Their brief talk had held more than enough cause to ruin any relationship.... 'or maybe he just refused to shave for her....' Megan smirked at her own thoughts...
((To Goosey: If you want to add and exit for Mr. Davis feel free. I didn't know if you intended to post again or not. ))
It was a pretty big huge maze. One of her spiders had made it to the top of a hedge, and had muttered about not being able to see an end to it. Megan paused, to stoop and tie a shoelace, when Gawain's voice floated above the hedges to her. Aunt Nancy? What the hell did that mean? She stood again, her shoe forgotten for now, and let her eyes wander up while she searched for what direction his voice was coming from. 'find him...' She felt the resulting 'yes ma'am's' and smiled.
"Oh?" She started, raising the level of her voice a little. She wanted to be heard, after all. "I'm going to guess a lot of mutants here had problems then..." She tugged on her guide thread, and moved to take a step forward- continue on her merry journey. Her forgotten shoelaces though, had other ideas. One caught of a root poking out of the ground, and she pitched forward unexpectedly. With a squawk of surprise, she sprawled out onto the ground and felt the air rush from her lungs. 'Stupid shoes... Stupid maze..'
Pushing herself to her knee's again, she brushed herself off and tied the blasted shoe- knotting it a few times just to be safe. "In my defense, that ten year old should not have been talking to a stranger. I think I taught her a very valuable, non violent, life lesson." She nodded to herself, ignored the you just keep telling yourself that that floated across her thoughts, and kept going. "As for checking this place out, yes. I did. I must say though, your rooms appear really small." She wasn't all that thrilled with the idea of sharing one, either.
One of her spiders wiggled past a clump of leaves, and spotted Gawain in front of it. Megan grinned as the information was relayed back to her. "Found you." On her command, the jumper anchored himself to a leaf and bounced up and down, trying to create enough noise to attract Gawain's attention.
Dreams were nonexistent, but irrational fears weren't. As he eyes cracked open again, she already had scenes from Jurassic park running amok behind her eyes. So it didn't help that the first thing she saw upon reawakening, was a dinosaur, -still- holding a flashlight. And. It. was. Staring. at. her. With a groan, she draped an arm over her eyes and searched for her spiders via mind link. Not a single one of them had remained on her person... How utterly disappointing.
Then again, she had never been quite so scared in all her life, as she was now. Dinosaur was much more frightening than say, a handful of goons with automatic weapons. At least they weren't supposed to be extinct. She lifted her arm as her nerves calmed, to blink at the creature. Her spiders were on their way back, nervously, so she propped herself up on her elbows and frowned. "Alright... if your not going to eat me.... then what?" Maybe it was a vegan dinosaur... and only ate plants. Or, a much more amusing idea... Maybe it had already eaten all of the staff.
Sniffling quietly, she scratched at her nose and sat up. "Are you... a person?" She asked, raising her eyebrows with the question. If it was mutant, or a mutants pet, that would explain the flashlight... Flashlight. Her head turned and she reached and picked up her own, once again pointing it at the creature again. Its eyes reflected back for a moment, and she felt a twinge of fear return- which didn't help with rounding up her spiders any. Slowly, as if making any sort of quick movements would startle the beast, she got to her feet. With both hands empty, her mind wandered temporarily to where her stun gun might have gone to...
A chirp... like a bird, but not a bird. Megan had never heard a bird make that particular sound. It was... curious. Cocking her head to the side, she turned and aimed her flashlight up- just as a flashlight was aimed down her way. The sudden light in her eyes blinded her, and Megan felt a brief moment of panic wash over her shoulder and down her back as a second impossible option flared to life. 'Ohmygod, Aliens!' Her eyes finally adjusted, and she was able to focus on the owner of the light, or at least its hands... Were those claws? The twenty three year old blinked, and rubber her eyes, smearing one cheek with black. People didn't have claws...
She raised her flashlight, illuminating non human arms, a non human chest, and finally a non human and all to frightening maw of glimmering teeth. No.... that wasn't an alien. That was a freakin' dinosaur. A feathery, scaly, beady eyed, man eating lizard. The resounding scream that burst from Megan's lips sent her spiders into a panic. They felt her flare of fear, and like their mother, abandoned ship. The small bodies tumbled out from inside her shirt and hair, rolled to the ground and scrambled away as quickly as they could into the darkness. Megan on the other hand, was not so lucky to be a small, fast spider. She simply fainted. A dust cloud lifted, and settled around her, and her flashlight rolled off to one side to point deeper into the dig site. She hadn't even paused to question why there was a Dino holding a flashlight...
The sound of foot steps shifted, and she spun around the corner to face whoever it was. Her flashlight flickered on- but no one was there for the light to fall on. Her eye twitched again, and she frowned. She could still hear footsteps faintly, but they were softer now. Either farther away, or the other knew Megan was there. Personally she hoped for the first option. She moved out from along the wall, her steps taking her into the open, and shined her flashlight about. A brief glimpse of movement of the corner of her eye caught her off guard, and she swiveled about aiming her light like a sword, and her stun gun like a... stun gun. Surely, she wasn't just imagining it. The foot steps had sounded so real... as did the feeling of not being alone. A very brief fear flitted through her chest, but she squashed it quickly. No one had followed her, she had made sure of that.
That only left a stranger; Someone else fishing around in the dark for unknown reasons. Megan gritted her teeth and swallowed, putting all irrational fears of ghosts and boogie men behind her. After clearing her throat, she adopted her best impression of someone who was -not- trying to steal very expensive dead things, and called out meekly. "... hello?... is someone there?" If it was a night guard or staff member, she could always try to sweet talk her way out of trouble, or fib about being here because of a dare. Her light swiveled about once more, pointing behind and over her shoulder, and she squinted to try and peer through the darkness. For some reason, she hadn't anticipated a dig site as being this... creepy. It made her feel like she was on cursed soil, being stalked by some long dead creature with an appetite for living flesh...
Megan shook herself, and inwardly kicked herself for watching too many old horror flicks, and muttered "Just what I need, some Mummy shuffling around out there, waiting to strangle me to death..."
Well, no time like the present to find out, it seemed. She caught the last of his words and laughed haughtily as she darted though the entrance of the maze, with a wave over her shoulder. Who was he to tell her where she wanted or would not want to go? Maybe a maze was where she wanted to go... Snorting, she ignored how stupid that particular thought was, and turned the first corner- and paused. It wasn't to late to turn back... there was always the chance that she could run faster than the boy. She blinked, once- twice, and grinned. "What the hell, I've got nothing better to do anyway."
The second corner of the maze was further down the hall way of green. Megan started to walk again, slowly this time, and puckered her lips to release a thin cord of web from her mouth. Ad she passed, she anchored the end to the hedge on her right, with help from a sticky globule on the threads end. She would use it as her bread crumb trail back, if it came down to that. Once her line was tethered, she picked up the pace again into a quick jog, keeping the line from her mouth out of the way with one had as she moved. She was tempted to send her babies crawling out into the bushes to give her directions... but that would be cheating. Wasn't the whole point to having one of these things to get lost, and have fun while doing it?
The soft rumble of her mopeds engine died, and she flipped out the kickstand and stood. Hopefully this time she had everything she needed... she didn't have Meld around to help with this one after all. "Flashlight?" Pulling it from her belt, she clicked it on and shined it around at her feet. "check. Rope?" She patted her shoulder, where a good sized length of rope resided. "check. Hammer, and icepick..." After a quick hop in place, she heard a soft clinking, and was satisfied. "Check.. and last but not least, stun gun..." She patted her right pocket carefully, and smiled. "Almighty then." Leaving her ride in the shadows of a tree on the outside of the dig site, Megan switched on her flashlight and started forward. A dirt path seemed to take her to the edge of the site, but no further. Her light clicked off, and was placed back at her side- securely held against her hip by the tightness of her belt. She shrugged off the rope from her shoulder, spat a good amount of sticky web on the ground, and threw the loose end down.
After making sure her backpack was secure again, she turned and lowered herself onto the rope, shimmying down until her feet met the dirt again. "Alright... now, where are those things..." The article had said something about ancient spiders- which had led to internet searches. She had been mightily pleased. The spiders she had seen had been huge, about six inches and they had looked awesome. One had resembled a large tick- which had made her think of other things as well... But currently, her task was getting her hands on one of those amber spiders. Snatching up her flashlight once more, she clicked it on and used it to help guide her way. She knew little to nothing of the dig site other than what it contained- so she felt she had more than a little searching to do.
She swiveled her light to and fro, stopping occasionally to pick at loose piles of dirt. One never knew when one would find a jewel among rough. It was while picking through a patch of rather large dirt chunks, that she heard the sound of something walking through the dirt. Her flashlight clicked off, and she withdrew her stun gun from her pocket, holding it out in front of her as she moved forward quietly. Maybe it was a night guard... or another curious thief... or worse, a tourist after hours. One of her eyes twitched slightly, and she set her jaw. The waiting spiders in her hair chattered loudly in her head, asking questions- wanting answers. She shushed them quietly, and put her back to the dirt near a corner. Whoever it was, they were about to get a good dosage of volts straight to the neck if they didn't move on... Hopefully they would move on. Having a potential dead person on her hands wouldn't make her task any easier...
"And what's your specialty, little one? Mosquitoes? Cocroaches? Naked mole rats?"
The girl blinked up at him for a moment, before her eyes filled with tears and she burst into sobs. "What's -sob- that supposed -sniffle- mean?! -sob-" She rubbed at her eyes with balled up hands. "I just -sob- came here because -sniffle- some mean lady stole all my stuff." A break in the girls crying finally came, and she raised wet round puppy eyes his way, pouting cutely. "Can I use your phone to call my mom?"
Inside, Megan has stood and peeked around the doorway of the kitchen, listening intently. "Whelp, that's my cue to leave." She finished off her milk and abandoned the glass on the table. On the way to the door, she called her spiders out of hiding, waiting only a moment for them before she booked it out the backdoor. Whatever spiders were still inside, were on their own..
Outside however, there wasn't an exit in sight. Just as the backdoor slammed shut, she was booking it across the lawn and around shrubbery, heading towards what looked like an out, until she got there that is. "What the crap?" Before her sat the entrance to a hedge maze. One... that she didn't know the size of. "Who keeps a thing like this in a school for god's sake?!" The scout spider who had surveyed the kitchen shrank on her shoulder- having hopped from the fridge as she passed by- and Megan shot it a dirty look. "There's an exit out back, he says." Her scowl made the small creature retreat back into her hair, and she crossed her arms.
Taking another sip of her milk, she grinned and nodded her head. "Truthfully, I kind of was. Though, I don't know if I would fit in as well as you think." She rolled her eyes once again to the ceiling with a sigh, thinking about what he had said. "I doubts you all would want me here for long. I seem to attract bugs of all sorts.." An image of a certain cockroach she new sprang to mind and she grinned impishly for a moment. "It can be rather dangerous, depending on what type of bug happens to reside around the area."
She swirled the milk in her glass, and turned her eyes back to him. Under her shirt a batch of spider lings had just been born, but she didn't really have anything to so with them. Sentry spiders scattered about the mansion were enough, and a living room full of webs and hiding critters meant she had enough at her disposal. She opened her mouth to speak again, but was interrupted as the doorbell rang. "Oh... looks like you have more company."
Her eyes in the hall swiveled about to spy who it was, and had to squeeze out through the vent again to catch sight of the person. once it had gotten out and peeked around the corner- it spotted a ten year old girl in a tank top and running shorts, with a box of cookies in her hand. If the spiders eyes could have widened, they would have. An urgent message flew back to Megan as the jumping spider scurried for its life back towards the kitchen. 'The girl is here!' Had she been sipping her milk at the time, it damn well would have shot out her nose. The girl scout!
Her smile widened. He was actually getting her milk? What a sweet heart. Her fingers resumed their rhythmic tapping for a moment. The small peering eyes from behind her earlobe developed thin legs, which curled out from behind her hair. The rest of the spiders face and body followed quickly, and the small creature crawled out into the light and scuttled across her jawline, and then up the opposite cheek. It disappeared behind the other ear, to peek out shyly. At Gawain's words, Megan raised widened eyes his way and pulled her glass of milk towards her.
"Do I?" She raised a hand and patted her face carefully, as if looking for the pesky creature. "Are you sure?" Tilting her head, she took a sip of cold milk, and licked her lips. It was fun, this new reaction to spiders she was witnessing. She was used to people stomping her children, or catching them in jars. With a silent command for her shy spider to show itself once more, she blinked at the boy innocently. The spider scurried out once more, resting on her cheek, and she dropped empty eyes to it.
"Oh, there it is." Her tongue snuck out, stuck the spider with a bit of sticky thread wrapped around her tongue, and she slurped the arachnid into her mouth- hiding it behind a set of white teeth as they clacked together. "Got it." She washed the web down as her spider too refuge on the roof of her mouth, clinging to silken thread stuck there. "Tastes like chicken." She muttered.
"Wow. Big kitchen." Pursing her lips, she stood with a hand on her hip and leaned against the door frame for a moment. Not as big as other kitchens she had seen, but adequate. The reason question was what they had stocked away in the fridge. The last two kitchens she had seen had been stocked full of junk foods... Many types of cheese, butter, and beer Her tongue poke out on its own, remembering how foul that particular beverage was. 'And fattening...'
"Water, if you don't mind. I could get it myself if you point the glasses out." Her eyes flicked to her sentry in the corner, only a flicker of reflective blue in the darkness of a shadow. It hadn't been able to squeeze itself into the cupboards to find out. It had stated a possible second exit through the back- apparently, though it admitted that it hadn't had the chance to investigate further. She doubted she would need that knowledge, unless her new friend had something against creepy crawlies.
Removing herself from the doorway, she crossed over and plopped down into a chair, tapping her fingers on the table. She plopped her chin into the other hand and turned curious eyes on Gawain again. "So, what's it like living here? I assume you do?" The twenty three year old paused, watching as the hidden spider removed itself from the shadows to scramble across the ceiling towards the fridge. It had apparently taken her curiosity to heart. She turned in her head to watch as it disappeared behind, then reappeared on the fridges side, crawling over magnets and papers as it made its way towards the handle. "Actually, maybe milk would be better. I heard they were messing with the pipes or something.." Her lips pinched at the corners, and she rolled her eyes off in a different direction.
