The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"What's that supposed ta mean?" Feisty? She'd heard that before, and it was mostly people teasing her. Several of those people had received a swift kick to the groin before Veronica either fled, or swiped some of their possessions and then fled.
People's opinions were honestly irrelevant to her life. Her parents didn't even have opinions. Even if they did, they didn't get the privilege of having opinions on her life. Addy's did matter. Not that Veronica would ever voice that outloud to anyone. Or even write it down anywhere that people could find it. It was private. Her own little secret.
She was unsure of the extent Addy knew she liked her. By comparison to most people, Veronica actually tolerated Addy, but it definitely went beyond that. She didn't voice it though, so she didn't know how much her sister had figured things out.
"Everyone sucks, gender doesn't mean crap." Truthfully Veronica didn't know how she felt about the whole sexuality thing. Most people were repulsive.
"It's a diet soda. Besides, life is too short for worrying about crap like that. If I want to abuse my body, I'll do it. It's mine." Veronica immediately tore into the packaging and took a chunk out of the burger when they sat down. She'd not realised how hungry she'd been before then. "Also f*** off with the soda, the burger is way worse. And worth it."
"No that's your 'please punch me in the face Veronica, look my face is so punchable' name for me." She growled.
Veronica glared. "It's not my fault if people get into trouble doing the things I do, besides that the real problem are the idiots that give me grief for living my life." She muttered. "It's not like I'm hurting anyone. Well, mostly." The theft might be considered damaging to some people, but she generally only stole from people that deserved it. Snobs, and other crooked types that needed to be knocked down a peg, or five.
"What the F*** how did you not get caught?" She threw her arms up. "I wasn't even doing anything, some lame guy pining after me was smoking near me and the teacher automatically blames me? F*** em!"
Veronica gave her sister another quick glare, but without any real weight behind it. "Yea yea."
Veronica rolled her eyes. Throwing down a few bills on the counter before Addy could grab anything to pay. "Same thing but a real drink. Coke."
Veronica strolled across the courtyard, slowing down and looking casual, fingers jammed into her tiny jean pockets as she moved over too her sister. She was pissed. It was annoying that she'd gotten into S*** because the school hired idiots that couldn't do their jobs, and she was more annoyed that Addy had to wait for her.
Eyes narrowed. "Call me that again, and I don't give a **** if you shock me, I will punch you. I will punch you in your face." She hissed. "I was being a bad influence again." She muttered, starting to walk along next to her sister.
Veronica eyed her sister again. "God, I could go for a burger. Like a massive greasy one. You pick." She began humming as they moved.
It really was amazing how many schools you could get away with things like drinking and smoking at. Teachers really weren't the smartest people in new york, or they'd probably do something worthwhile and stop bothering reasonable, intelligent people like Veronica.
She hadn't even been the one smoking! She was just hanging around the dude that was, yet she was the one here in the class room waiting for the teacher to go and fetch another faculty member to talk to her about being a negative 'influence' on other students.
The little buzzing of the phone in her bag made her sigh. She swore, if this was mom or dad sending a non-committal message about her poor behaviour she was going to scream. She was going to scream, and smash the windows by proximity.
Huh. Her sister. OH CRAP!
Veronica stuck her head out the door and looked around for the teacher. Nowhere in sight. Great. The smartest of the dumb teachers had learned that when in detention or making her wait for a lecture, do it on at least the second floor. This teacher was not one of those.
But a few moments later Veronica was out in the sweet free air of one of the courtyards, making her way towards her sister, huffing little visible breaths in the frigid air.
Veronica had spent a lot of time in the last couple of years hanging around spots that would make most parents flip out, mostly characterised by a persistent state of disrepair, broken windows and little fires inside of trash cans with groups of shady people clustered around them. Her parents of course, didn't know about it. She doubted they'd say anything to her about it anyway, you had to actually give a damn to have opinions about how your child lived their life.
It was definitely a good thing that she knew this area, and places like it in general. It made a big difference when you were running for your life, clutching a messenger bag that may or may not have contained illegally obtained goods.
Wearing a dark leather jacket, clothes that were most definitely not suited to the winter and torn black jeans, the bright haired girl dashed along the side walk from a group of 3 men chasing her, nearby sounds drowned out by a set of headphones planted over her head, just visible poking out from underneath her black beanie, probably more expensive than the rest of her outfit.
The street was suddenly graced with screeching tires as Veronica bolted across traffic, dashing and sliding over cars with little to no grace, stumbling and tripping as she went but still somehow making it to the other side. She was oblivious to the curses and shouts of the men chasing her, being stopped by the suddenly more chaotic traffic. She however was not deaf to the loud car horns honking at her for nearly becoming roadkill. Whatever, she made it. No biggie.
Scrambling down an alley like a terrified cat Veronica sprinted down to the end and rounded the corner. There were several abandoned buildings here, she picked one at random and dashed inside, confident that they would have to guess between multiple buildings and she could hide in one and leave when they're not around.
Of course what she didn't stop to think about was that the door of one of them had clearly been ran through. Oops.
Character's full name: Veronica Aquamarine Monroe Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Ronnie Gender: Female Age: 16 Date of Birth: (12/31/2003) Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: New York Nationality: American Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: Scandinavian originally
Appearance
Hair color and style: The roots are blonde, but it’s currently dyed a vibrant shade of pink, and is down just past her shoulders. Truthfully it varies on day to day basis and is dry and a little unhealthy to the touch, she dyes it so repeatedly, gets bored of it and then bleaches it and starts over. Sometimes she gives it a break and lets the roots grow back out before ruining it all over again. Skin Tone: Fair skin, not super pale but not anywhere near tanned. Eye Color: Dark brown Height: 5’4” Build: Skinny and scrawny in general, but with a surprising amount of tone on her leg muscles, she’s quick. Visible mutation: None. Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: Just ear piercings, for now. Other features:
Everyday clothing style: Mostly blacks and leather, she DOES own other clothes, not many mind you, but lots of skinny jeans, gothy dresses and other pieces of attire that fit the edgy metal aesthetic. Uniform: No uniform for anything. Sleepwear: Mostly just whatever she falls asleep in. Unless it’s stained or had drinks spilled on it, in which case she just forgoes it and sleeps under covers. Miscellaneous clothing: She often wears skull chokers and hairpins.
Character
Personality: Veronica has a pretty intense and volatile personality. Her parents basically gave the sisters absolute freedom and she somehow STILL Found a way to rebel. She’s endlessly snarky, likes to push people’s boundary’s and test their limits to see how long it takes them to snap.
She views the world mostly as a playground with plenty of things to do and exploit, and while she does constantly crave attention from people, she doesn’t necessarily care about the opinions the people may hold about her, especially where family is concerned. Her sister she tolerates.
Beyond the intensity and volatility of her personality Veronica is also characterised by hyperactivity, she’s almost always moving or doing something. If she’s not in conversation she’s wearing headphones or blasting music from an amp and was appropriately diagnosed with ADHD at a young age.
Hobbies/ Interests: Music is her most dominate hobby, she listens to metal and punk rock anthems almost constantly and is extremely interested in performing herself. She loves to do vocal work, messing around with guitars, keyboards and a variety of other instruments. She also holds an interest in art, particularly enjoying graffiti and other forms of street art, dancing and similar kinds of expression. Job or part time job and description: While Veronica doesn’t have a formal job she does perform as part of a 4 piece punk rock band, and she also spends a pretty substantial amount of time stealing, mostly pick pocketing. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Veronica has a deep fear of neglect, she absolutely cannot stand the thought of people being unable to hear her and has reoccurring nightmares about waking up with a missing voice. Special talents: Veronica has always had pretty strong vocals, with quite a large range even before her power activated and let her cheat. She’s also spent a lot of time honing her skills with guitars and bass.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other:Neutral. Veronica is out for herself at almost all times. While she’s not especially malicious or hateful, she values herself over almost everybody else and can be pretty petty in certain situations. There are a pair of notable exceptions; She’s quite protective of younger girls and is secretly very appreciative of her sister.
Other than these two exceptions however, Veronica has no issues stealing things from people, doing minor harm to other people if it gets her something she wants, or tearing apart another person’s reputation if they irritate her, or are in the way of something she desires.
Mutations
Mutation description: Aerothurge sound manipulation Veronica’s vocal chords have the ability to alter and affect the airspace in front of her to distort sound, while it’s not extremely precise she can make sound carry better and further, adjust the volume and pitch of sound coming from her own voice, and make sounds projecting from her carry better, e.g if she was playing a guitar. Strengths: -Veronica can make herself heard from large distances. -She can ‘Amp’ the effect of her voice or make herself seem more skilled than she is with her vocal range. -She can raise the volume and pitch of her voice to dangerous levels if somebody attacked her, stunning them and potentially damaging their hearing -She can effectively ‘throw’ her voice across a room while speaking more quietly. -She can make an instrument she’d holding louder without an amp Weaknesses and Limitations: -Veronica can affect the air in a 50-meter cone in front of her, not behind or to the sides of her -Her power is affected by her vocal chords like any singer’s voice is. The more intensely she uses it, the more she risks damaging or wearing them out, if she went to an extremely high pitch or volume for an extended period of time, she’d wear herself out much faster, and risk losing her voice. -The more space she’s affecting at once, the more strain on her voice, if she was to sing an entire set of music affecting her full range to amplify her voice, she’d likely lose it for several days and suffer severe to moderate throat pain, depending on how intense it was. -Her ability to use her power is based on her voice, if she’s impaired by anything like a cold or tonsillitis, coughing or other things that impede either her voice or concentration heavily her degree of control diminishes rapidly into non-existence. -She cannot manipulate sound projecting from her that is not her voice to nearly the same degree as her vocals, just make it heard from further away. -Veronica has to be making sound with her voice for her power to work at all, if she cannot for some reason, she won’t be able to use her power at all.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Veronica lacks strength or any real muscle at all in her upper body, but does have fairly quick reflexes and is very speedy. Fighting Style: She absolutely lacks any formal training in fighting, if she were to get into a situation that was dangerous she’d fight dirty, throwing things, aiming for delicate areas with her feet or stunning an assailant with her power before making a run for it. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: + Pretty good at running away + Very feisty and unpredictable - Lack of ability to do anything other than take cheap shots and run away - Complete lack of any real physical power behind her blows History Of Your Character Veronica and her twin sister Adelynn were born to Nicholas and Clarity Monroe, who could be charitably described as hippies were born a few years too late. The early years of their childhood were hardly typical of most kids growing up in New York city, they were always given an abundance of freedom and encouraged to do what they liked with their free time, make friends with who they liked and were raised in pretty much an absence of prejudice with the intention of letting them form their own opinions on the world, and being free of restraint.
This of course, back fired. While Veronica and Adelynn were given a high degree of freedom Veronica grew up feeling as if her parents didn’t care about her, after all the two of them could get away with murder without their parents taking much notice, that didn’t imply much parental affection to her.
The bounced around schools for a while, largely due to one or the other resulting in a sister getting kicked out, and while the parents didn’t directly intervene in their children’s lives all that much they did make sure that the sisters stayed together, Veronica getting into trouble for stealing things as a teenager, and narrowly avoiding getting serious consequences, whilst Addy was caught tagging a handful of times.
The one thing the sisters shared with each other and their parents from a young age was the passion for music, which they exercised as much as possible. Veronica loved playing the guitar like her sister but loved the attention she got for her voice a lot more, developing an impressive range and skill for her age as a young teen. It was around this time that the sisters formed their first band, starting as a duet. After going through several more incarnations in different schools the sisters ended up with a 4-piece punk rock band outside of school (Which was just as well as Veronica ditched as much as possible) and mostly played together for fun.
At the age of 14, a few months before their 15th Birthday, Veronica discovered her sister was a mutant when Addy played a practical joke on her that caused her hair to stand on end for several hours. After the initial shock Veronica was pleased that her sister had a power, it was so cool. Until it wasn’t.
Jealousy took hold of Veronica for a couple of months and she became a lot pettier with her sister, ignoring her on occasion, and making snide remarks at band practice for months one end. That was until a little while after their 15th Birthday one of the other members stuck up for Addy and implied that Veronica’s range was a lot worse than she thought it was, leading to her attempting to give them a demonstration and activating her own power in a bang by deafening everyone in the room.
After that she became a lot more affectionate with her sister, as if to make up for the petty behaviour, before slowly settling back into their old relationship of teasing and an easy friendship. Roleplay What’s your OOC alias?: Raz (Razzledazzle) Where did you learn about this site?: Mugen roughly 8 years ago. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Serena Rivers, Emily Graves and April Leigh. Sample RP: It didn’t really matter to Veronica that it was freaking freezing out in the open air of NYC, nope. Not at all. She was just holding the arms of her leather jacket because it looked cool, that was it. A dark haired boy walked along side her, similarly trying to seem above the basic law of the universe that New York was cold in the winter. “I’m sure it was around here, somewhere.” The girl muttered while peeking around corners they walked past.
“Wasn’t it behind the bar?” The boy asked, shooting glances around the area.
“No duh! But where was the bar?” She still couldn’t believe the owner had let them play there a few nights ago, you didn’t really let minors into bars. But then again, it seemed like the place hadn’t been the upstanding sort, it was more of a seedy location.
It was another few minutes before the two of them spotted it. The bar wouldn’t open for another couple of hours today, and while it was already getting dark the area was quiet. There were so many abandoned buildings around here, it was sort of eerie. The two teens glanced around for a moment making sure they weren’t being watched, and then slunk into the alley over to a corner of pilled up pallets and cardboard, damp from the snow and rain.
It took them a good few minutes to shift things, but eventually they found a box with several bottles of alcohol and a zip locked bag with 2 dozen mobile phones inside of it and hastily began stuffing them into their bags. They were almost finished when Veronica’s elbow bumped a bottle balancing on a box next to goods and landed on the concrete with a loud clink, part of it smashing.
There was a shuffling sound before a large burly man appeared at one end of the alley looking confused before narrowing his eyes and yelling at them, moving towards them swiftly, reaching into his pockets for something. “HEY! What do you think you brats are doin?!”
“****! Run!” The two teens broke into a dead sprint out of the alley and ran like hell, rounding corners like they were playing maze runner until it was only confused onlookers with eyes on them, not the man chasing them spouting curses a few minutes prior.
Panting, chest hurting from the running in the frigid air they leaned against another abandoned building for a few minutes, thankful they had gotten away. She stood up while he was still leaning, looking pale. “Come on, we can keep some of this and I know a guy that will buy the rest.” Clean get away, perfect.
