The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"No. Purr." she clarified. Obviously, he was flying on purpose, but she was not sure about the purring. He seemed to be doing that a lot when he was around her, or when he was happy. Right now, he was probably happy, because he got to take her flying. Amethyst held on, trying not to look down.
>>”Yer not afraid of heights are ya, love? Nothing wrong with it. Like I said, won’t drop ya. I kinda like ya."
"So if you didn't like me you'd drop me?" she ventured, peering up at him. Probably not, he was usually a good guy. The wings were still fascinating, so she focused on those instead. It was amazing to think they were carrying the two of them.
>>”Don’t make it awkward? You’d be warmer if I shifted so yer gonna have to get close.”
"No shifting" she declared. One, it would have killed the romantic vibe if he turned into a griffin. And two, then she would be responsible for holding on to him while he flew, something she was definitely not ready to do. Carrick scooped her up into his arms, and she wrapped her own around his shoulders. This was an exercise in trust. She just hoped he'd appriciate it as a gift.
>>”Let me know if we get too high, love.”
Anything above three feet was too high, but she was not going to point that out. Instead, she held on, and listened to him purring as they flew up among the flurries of snow. He made it seem effortless. She was not ready to look down just yer, so she buried her face in his chest. "Do you do that on purpose?"
Amethyst was used to sophisticated parties... back in Atlantis. Walking into something like this, without having actually organized it, on the Mansion grounds, was definitely something to take notice of. And she did, as she walked out of the building to get some fresh air. It would have been hard to miss the lights, and the seats, and the table. Or the blue-haired girl in the dress with the book. Amethyst herself was wearing a dark blue gown flecked with small diamonds, and silver jewelry set with sapphires. She vaguely remembered seeing the girl around the Mansion before, but now she was taking a better look for the first time. Sweeping over to the canopy, she looked around with an appreciative glance.
"Is there a party happening I was not told about?"
The pink haired girl did show up eventually, with a tray of food and tea. Amethyst looked at it curiously as the tray was placed on her lap. So far, being served healing things seemed familiar. The smells were not wholly so, but she was willing to try.
>>"Takes a bit to get it just right, but it is all easy on the stomach as well. Sit up please."
She did, wiping some gems to the floor as she did so. Someone would have to sweep them up later.
>>"Now this is healing tea, start with this while I finish preparing the rest."
She did tart with the tea. It was hot, kind of spicy, and it made it feel easier to breathe. Amethyst sipped it carefully as she watched the food being prepared. It looked like a meticulous process.
>>"Please enjoy."
"This is very elaborate food" she pointed out, tasting it. The taste of fish felt familiar, but the plum was an interesting addition. "What does it do? For healing? Or is that due to your powers?..."
Carrick's reaction was very satisfying. The princess laughed, waiting for him to get the firs excitement out of the way. The purring spoke volumes. He opened his wings, and she smiled. This gift thing was not as difficult as it seemed.
>>”I mean.... it’s a pretty good gift... Promise I won’t drop ya.”
"That is the minimum you should promise" she pointed out, wrapping herself in her cloak. "Don't even joke about it. Seriously, if you try to prank me, I'll never speak to you again." Being up in the air was not the most comforting thought. But it made Carrick happy, and she found she liked that. She looked up at him expectantly, holding out her arms. "So?"
The thought of kissing Carrick was nice. She would definitely get arund to that later, if he was still interested. But she had been preoccupied with the whole gifting situation, trying to wrap her head around the idea of meaning over value. And she still wanted to give him something for his birthday, which was a short notice. And then, she had a good idea. At least she thought she did.
>>”Oh? Well, coming from you I bet it’s gonna be pretty extravagant.”
"Come with me" she grinned, picking her cloak up on the way. Tucking the mistletoe away for later, she walked out the door of the Mansion again, back into the snow outside. She turned, waiting for him to catch up, and smiled.
"This is a special occasion, so you better make the most of it." she stated, feeling a bit nervous for a moment. Maybe she was misreading the whole thing. "You can take me flying."
She wondered if Carrick was going to play along. He liked her, she knew as much, but he had been a bit shy about the whole making out thing before. Amethyst wanted to see how far the flirting went, and whether he still wanted to kiss her, after the awkward memory of the other night. Even though not all of it was awkward. The kissing part had been pretty nice.
>>”Form’s a little off. We can work on it though.”
The princes chuckled, and then pulled away in the last moment before he kissed him. Her eyes went wide with a sudden idea.
>>”Well enough. Might have gotten a few. I wasn’t the talented musician I am now.”
"Maybe that was a plus?" the princess grinned. Sometimes Carrick was an easy target, especially when he was playing up the roguish musician thing. At the same time, it was amusing to imagine him going around with mistletoe, trying to get people to kiss him.
>>”Think I saw some in the living room near the tree... want to go take a look?
"Sure" the princess grinned, taking another sip of the hot chocolate before she stood up to walk over to the living room. There were bundles of mistletoe hung around the door frames. They made a lot more sense now. The princess broke off the piece and waved it in the air, smiling at Carrick.
>>”Nah, more of a... I have it so kiss me. Used to run around with it when I was first at the mansion.”
"And how did that work out for you?" the princess smirked. She already knew Carrick was not very experienced, so she assumed that not everyone took the mistletoe custom too seriously. Otherwise, it sounded fun. If you had mistletoe, other people could be compelled to kiss you? The princess already had a bunch of ideas for having fun with that.
>>"I mean, if ya want payment fer kissing me I can get ya some mistletoe… if ya want.”
Oh, he was flustered again. The princess chuckled as he looked away, and hid a smile in her mug of hot chocolate.
>>”I know ya don’t have Christmas but ya got to have some holidays and traditions of yer own right?”
"We do" she nodded, brushing the topic aside "But the mistletoe thing, it sounds fun. We should adopt that..."
>>”Welcome… Wasn’t a big deal or nothin’. Hard to figure a gift fer someone that can just buy anything they want anyways.”
"It's not really about the price." It was, in a way. But it was also the act of gifting, which Atlanteans took very seriously. There was a lot of etiquette surrounding exactly how gifts were measured, chosen, given, and reciprocated. A lot of it was about the gesture, but value also figured into it. Obviously. In comparison, Carrick's gift was... sweet. And personal. And so was the hot chocolate.
>>”Cheers. and Mistletoe… Another holiday tradition. Basically an excuse to kiss someone.”
She glanced up at his hand, which was holding nothing, and tried to put the pieces together. He was cute when he was flustered.
It had to be hard for Carrick, remembering his mother, and also losing memories of her. It had to be hard to celebrate without her. Amethyst had not had a very close relationship with her parents, but even she would have mourned them. And Carrick's mother sounded like a very good mother. No wonder the holiday made him sad.
>>”Not much to understand. Holiday itself is about buying presents fer loved ones and spending time with ‘em. Mother’d kick me ass fer saying it though. Supposedly a religious holiday. Wait till I show ya the mistletoe.”
"Mistletoe...?" Amethyst had seen some mistletoe among the holiday decorations, but she'd assumed it was there because it was green.
She turned her attention to her gift, unwrapping the paper until it revealed a frame, and the tickets. It took her a moment to realize what it was. It wasn't the kind of expensive gift she was used to. But it was a memory. From their date, that ended somewhat badly, but... it was sweet, in a way. "That... is lovely" she smiled, looking up at him. She was not used to getting gifts this... personal. "Thank you."
>>”Aye. Mom taught me. Not really in a baking mood though… I don’t really need a cake.”
The princess silently cursed herself. She'd managed to distract Carrick, and now he was back to thinking about his mom. She could see his wings and tail drooping. Sh frantically tried to think of something else to cheer him up.
>>”Baking’s pretty easy though. If yer sold on cake I’m sure I could teach ya. Can even make it sound like me mother’s doing the teaching. Carri, I swear if ya don’t get yer fingers out of the frosting you’ll be getting the spoon. Now, where’s my glasses.”
Amethyst chuckled, trying to imagine Carrick dipping into sweets in the kitchen. It was not hard to imagine. "She sounds delightful." She was also intrigued by the idea of him baking. It sounded like a hassle to do any of... the things bakers did.
They ended up in the kitchen, Carrick busying himself with the hot chocolate.
>>”How’s yer first Christmas?”
"I am not sure I understand the whole reasoning behind it, but... it's festive?" she ventured, taking a seat at the kitchen table, and working on the wrapping of her present "And I like gifts."
The Mansion was surprisingly quiet as they entered. Many students went home for the holidays - those that had a good relationship with their family, anyway. The rest were probably in their rooms, enjoying the break and the presents. The staff had made sure everyone had presents. Even Amethyst had gotten one. Seemed like no one realized it was Carrick's birthday, though.
>>”Oh? Didn’t know ya could bake. So do ya wear an apron or…? Be a sight.”
"I can't bake." the princess admitted "Can you? Can we just pay someone to bring you a cake?"
>>”Hot cocoa?”
"Yes please." Amethyst took off the cloak and shook the snow off her boots as they headed to the kitchen. It was nice to be out of the cold.
>>”Got a feeling I’m coming back out here later. The big guy doesn’t like it.”
"Well he can build a better one" the princess shrugged. She was not sure what problem his griffin form might have with the snow griffin (she assumed that was what he was talking about), but now that the thing had been made, she was on to other adventures. Just not out in the cold.
>>”Surprised ya wanted to be out here this long, I was only out here ‘cause of you.”
They headed back to the building. Through the door, because there was no way the princess was climbing in through a damn window.
>>”Soooo… what else ya got going on today?”
"Not much" she admitted "I really want to drink something warm. And open this present. But we should get you a cake too."
>>”Surprising coming from you. Usually yer telling me to loose them. Defintly be warmer fer me though.”
"It was one time" Amethyst muttered. She was still not sure she understood why making out and taking clothes off had freaked Carrick out so much. But she was not going to nag anyone about doing any of that if they were not inclined.
Carrick, on his part, decided to go up a tree for some reason.
>>”Holy… Ya think me beaks that big? Can see it from here! Look at the size of it”
"Come down here and do better!" the princess snapped, shaping the snow griffin. There was a cracking sound, and by the time she turned around, Carrick was on the ground again, surrounded by broken branches. He seemed unhurt. He had wings. And now so did the snow griffin.
>>”Uncanny. It’s like I’m looking into a mirror. You love, found yer calling.”
"Keep making fun of me" the princess smirked at him, blowing on her hands too. Her fingers felt numb from the cold. "Can we go inside? I can't feel my fingers. Or my nose."
