The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>”That it was forbidden to have a friend like me, a Gryphon. I get it. I’m pretty dangerous.”
He was. He could be. That was also new to Amethyst, being friends with a gorgon who could definitely be dangerous, and was definitely stronger than her. It was something the ladies pointed out too. It wasn't just the principle of bloodlines, it was also... her personal safety. But she doubted Carrick would ever hurt her. Even in beast form he didn't.
He was bartering her gems, though.
>>”I can see why. Could see why! Yer secret is safe with, darling. I got a good thing going. If people find out where I got that bag from….”
He kept descending the stairs and stumbling along. Amethyst stayed at his side, and he leaned on her when he stumbled. He was heavier than her and taller, but she did her best to support him, so that they would not both end up on the floor somehow.
>>”We’re friends. I wouldn’t do that to ya. I’d also tell ya if I was leaving. Only right. So don’t you worry none… unless you know Super decides to pick me up for being gone so long.”
"No one was supposed to know" she sighed "But I guess, since the previous royal concubine went around... bartering too, it's not really a secret now."
Amethyst pouted and shook her head. She was not going to drink... whatever he was drinking, it was too early in the morning, and she was more of a wine person anyway. They got to the stairs, and Carrick paused before braving them. It really looked like he was in pain.
>>”Well, only if yer allowed. Ya don’t see a problem with that though?”
"A problem with what?" she asked, watching him struggle another step. Being allowed to talk to gorgons? Surely that was not a problem. Some of them were kind of nice.
>>”I’m glad ya got sent here.”
"Oh, shut up" she huffed, walking down the stairs to stand on his good side. This was going to go a lot faster if she helped him down the stairs.
>>”Why ya so curious about what Praxi said?”
"I'm not." How was this supposed to work? She put an arm under his shoulder. He was taller than her, and the wings were not making any of this easy.
>>”and it’s not like ya use them. I haven’t sold any yet. Just set up a barter system. Nothing to crazy.”
"Good. You flood the market, they won't be worth anything. And you better not tell people where they come from. They either get grossed out, or they have some weird fascination about... my body parts."
>>”Am I that predictable? You might being here might be a perk as well. I mean, once I find another place to fence all them gems.”
"We need to talk about you picking up my gems" Amethyst pointed out as they made their way down the hallway. Carrick was getting more wobbly as he walked on, and stopped to drink. "You should not drink more alcohol if you want to be more stable..." she noted, turning around as he fell behind. There was a strange expression on Carrick's face, and he was turning kind of red. "Are you alright?"
>>”….I…. Ehmmmmmm… Sorry… Ehmmm… the light… from the window… Making yer ummmm… visible? I didn’t know… Sorry.”
"What?" the princess looked down, noting her pink dress. It was light fabric, definitely see-through in certain light. "Oh." she clicked her tongue "You Americans and your body issues..." she muttered. She had been warned recently multiple times that she should wear a bra. Whatever that was. Carrick walked on and so did she, and she decided to change the subject.
>>”I mean… nothing I didn’t already know. Nice group of ladies. All of ‘em. Think ya might owe Praxi an apology, wasn’t too nice what they were saying about her. You allowed to be friends with me? Or is it more taboo for royalty?”
"It's..." she blinked. Carrick had been a strange addition to her social circles, for sure, but he was so far outside of Atlantis she had never considered the option. "... under the old king... I guess it would have been forbidden. Under my cousin's rule... she seems to have a soft spot for gorgons. So I guess I'm allowed now."
Amethyst realized a little too late that she was grooming the feathers, but once she'd started it was really hard to stop. There was something very primal about arranging the feathers, and making them neat and tidy. It was just bad to look at them when they were ruffled. Also, Carrick purred, which was not helping, and the princess blushed.
>>”Figured or hoped? Don’t think I could leave ya alone here. You’d probably die of boredom without me. Couldn’t leave my biggest fan.”
"You want me to believe you came back for me and not the free food and lodging?" she shot back as he folded his wings. Carrick and his jokes.
>>”Care to escort me to the infirmary? You can tell me more how’ve been waiting on me and I’ll have someone to lean on if my legs decide to give.”
He wobbled, and Amethyst was beginning to realize that maybe he had been hurt more seriously than he let on. Or was more drunk. Either way, he probably needed to see a healer. "Let's go then, before I have to drag you. Because I wont." she clarified, walking out the door with him.
"I'm sure Praxi told you all about Atlantis, and the ladies that visited" she added with a frown. She could imagine what the goop girl would say about gorgons and demigods...
Carrick was in a bad shape, but apparently not so bad that he could not make jokes about it. He stuck to his claims of royalty despite the obvious. Amethyst rolled her eyes. Royalty seemed like such an appealing thing to everyone who was not royal.
>>”Yeah. Sorry me form wasn’t pleasing to the ladies of the Atlantean court.”
It wasn't his form, it was hit attitude. Surely. The ladies were not used to gorgons talking to them like that. And if they would have seen him now, beaten up as he was... the princess noted the wobble as he stood up and stretched his wings. The wings had always fascinated her somewhat, and she immediately noticed the ruffled and missing feathers.
>>”Aye one and the same. Didn’t do it by choice, love... Didn’t even give me much time to groom. I shifted… a lot. Both faces… I don’t remember too much of what happened. Time ran a bit different for me. Lots of fighting, some fires, fried food, that weird song and the fans. Love, they worshiped me.”
It sounded like... quite the adventure. Or mess, rather, with the... singing?... and fighting. Amethyst was still not sure what all had happened to him, but from what he was saying, he was probably not sure either. From the looks of it, and the lot of shifting, it probably took a toll on the griffin.
>>”So, I’m gone fer two days and ya great me with a wakeup call? Wait… did… did ya miss me? Awww.
"I didn't miss you" she princess huffed, stepping aside in case he keeled over. The outstetched wings limited her space by the bed, so she absent-mindedly poked at the feathers that were out of place "I've been waiting for you to come back so I can give you a piece of my mind about you being a prick at my party. But I figured you might not come back at all, just go on some kind of a rogue adventure and go seek your fortune elsewhere. Fly free or whatever." she shrugged, tucking some of the feathers back into place.
>>”Technically ‘he’ is as strong as one and might be able to pass for one… a mutant but yeah?”
So, he had not been fighting elephants, he had been fighting mutants. Who were strong as elephants. Gorgons, all likely, circus was a gorgon thing, as far as Amethyst could tell. Either way, it left its marks on the griffin.
>>”Sounds bout right. Probably should. I’m royalty, should be allowed to be purple.”
"You are not royalty." she clarified "I have seen your family tree, remember?"
>>”Again, who throws a party and doesn’t invite the entertainment? Took it personally I wasn’t invited. Almost like yer ashamed of knowing me. Some could argue I’m mythological a legend! I mean, as far as parties go… been to better.”
Amethyst blinked. Was she ashamed of knowing him? That sounded wrong. Surely not. He just... didn't belong to the Atlantean party. Different... social circles. "It was not meant to be an open party. It was a social visit for my Atlantean friends. And they are used to different things." she clarified.
>>”Went to go see the circus. Same one I ran with way back before I started school here. Not as inviting as I remember. Most of ‘em were in the same boat I was.”
"The same circus?" she remembered him talking about it before. The information distracted her from the topic of the party. "Why did you fight them?"
"Bullsh*t" Amethyst noted, in Greek. Carrick did not have a lady friend. Not that she cared, really, but with how annoying he had been lately, with him going missing for two whole days, she doubted any kind of a lady friend was putting up with that.
>>”Well at least I got two of them. Think it’s just broken. You have an elephant step on it and see how it looks.”
"You were fighting elephants?" Amethyst was confused now. Nothing was outside the realm of possibility, but she wondered if it had been the god people again.
>>”No, none of them. Thankfully. I didn’t kill anyone…. Least I don’t think I did. I don’t know. Never shifted that much before. Kinda a blur. I remember a lot of fights though. Looks like I won though right?”
"Looks like you got trampled" the princess wrinkled her nose "You should go to the healer. Your arm is definitely broken. And your face is purple." she reached out, poking at the bruise. It looked painful, so she didn't poke too much, though.
"So what, you decided that crashing my party was not enough, and went off to what, raid a circus?"
Whatever Carrick had been doing, he was definitely worse for the wear. Drunk or hung over, sure, but also beaten up. Not that Amethyst felt sorry for him, at all.
>>”Didn’t get drunk till after. Needed to. Never shifted that much before. Eh?... Is that what orgies are? Thought it was a sex thing. Good to know though. I’ll try to avoid those in the future.”
"Sex is usually optional" she clarified. Orgies could be a lot of things, but it was one of those Greek terms that Americans seemed to use with a slightly different meaning. Carrick did not seem like he had been getting laid. Or if he had been, he had some pretty specific tastes. Not that those could be judged.
>>”Pretty sure I’m still the best looking one in the room.”
"You are not."
>>”How mad was Pippa?”
"Who is Pippa?" the princess looked over Carrick again, now that he was sitting up, bleeding lip and all "Is you arm going to fall off? It looks disgusting. Was it the one god people again? Did you...?" turn into a beast an eat them?
>>”Me? Barge into rooms? Of a princess!?! One that could start an international crisis? Doesn’t sound like me does it?”
"Party. You barged into my party." she clarified. She had still not forgiven him for that, and the Atlantean ladies were not going to allow her to forget about it any time soon. And then he disappeared for days, and her anger had been simmering. She didn't care if he was hung over, or bruised.
>>”Not entirely sure. Figure it was a fight of some kind. ‘Let’s go to the circus. It’ll be fun!... What day is it?”
"You have been gone for two days." the princess noted, poking at the pillow on his head "I figured you might have run off an joined the circus again. Were you blind drunk or something? You look like you were in some very rough orgy."
Carrick moved. He seemed vaguely conscious. Pulling the curtains open, Amethyst turned to glare at him, and she wanted him to realize she was glaring.
>>”Yeah, bout boundaries. Gotta be kidding me… Just barging in rooms now eh?”
"You know, that's funny, because I distinctly remember you barging into my... WHOA what did you do?"
Carrick looked like death warmed over. Probably drunk too, but more... like someone who had been in a fight. Definitely drunk.
>>”Can we do this later. Had a hell of some days. Just shut the curtains and door on yer way out yeah?”
"No." the princess folded her arms, stepping closer to the bed "What happened? Someone finally decided to teach you that you are not as amusing as you think you are?"
Carrick was back, and despite the late hour he had managed to make an entrance somehow. By early morning, the news were all over the mansion that the resident winged daredevil had come home all beaten up and bloody. Amethyst, who woke up early, learned from the chatter of some students outside her door, and the first thing she though was good. He deserves it.
Carrick had behaved like a complete monster at the party, and then he up and disappeared, leaving his tracking device. It would have made sense for him to be gone for good. The princess, still angry at him for ruining her party, hoped he would stay gone. Or so she told herself, and everyone who was willing to listen.
But now that he was back somehow, she had to resort to the second best thing. Revenge.
The room's door slammed open as Amethyst swooped in like a pink-silk-wrapped angel of revenge, pulling the curtains aside.
>>”Oh, Amethyst is too badass to be slowed down by something like drinking laws. And we’re not cousins, I’d think. Never knew my parents, though. She’s just someone I know now that I didn’t know in Atlantis.”
Amethyst shot a glare at Praxi as her Atlantean friends took their seats on the couches and pillows. Someone she knew... she was royalty! The goop girl was playing Carrick's game, intentionally trying to piss her off. And the Atlantean girls were visibly becoming uncomfortable with her presence near the food.
>>”Great question, are ya poisonous? Shook yer hand should have come with a warning label, You’d make a great addition to the court if that’s the case. Wrong person to insult especially when drinking in such close proximity of ya. Am I right?”
"She's not poisonous." Amethyst clarified to her friends, who frowned or pouted. As if she would bring a dangerous gorgon anywhere near them...
>>”Better that than having to cover yer face with makeup due to too many black heads though.”
"They really do not train them here do they" one of the ladies scoffed, as Amethyst filled their cups. "Is that one even house broken?..."
>>”Nope! Nothing poisonous about me. I’d just taste kind of like wine right now. Well, unless I drank poison. So hopefully Amethyst isn’t poisoning you all. It would be very Chess of Crowns of her.”
"No one is poisoning anyone" Amethyst snapped. "She is just... made of slime, that's all."
"Ew. Did it just... suggest we taste it?"
"They are trying to get a rise out of you" the princess sighed, taking a seat "Don't pay attention, they'll be gone in a moment."
Amethyst was a little surprised at her demand being granted; not that she was not used to it, but the man did not seem the type to see reason this fast. She eyed him a little suspiciously as he checked on Carrick. At least she was not going to be left here in the park to fend for herself.
>>"So what happened? We have some time."
"They attacked us!" Amethyst stated firmly. "That man wanted us to... be gone, and called him an abomination, and accused me of... having sex with demons? Which is ridiculous, I don't even have sex with him." she clarified, pointing at Carrick. "And then Carrick roared at him, and he got even angrier, and his followers started throwing... glass at us. Bottles, maybe? And that made him turn into a monster."
This was becoming a complete and utter disaster. Carrick seemed hell bent on ruining the party, and whatever reputation Amethyst had left in Atlantis, and Praxi was playing along with his cheeky little game.
>>”Ya make me sound like some bum.”
"If the shirt fits" Amethyst shot back, glaring at him. He was drinking her expensive wine now, and pouring some for Praxi as well. Her friends from Atlantis looked scandalized at gorgons taking such liberty.
>>”Princess, ya didn’t tell me yer friends were so…. charmin’?. This how all the royalty acts to guests? Shame, hate to tell me father the king ‘bout this.”
The princess opened and closed her mouth, completely dumbfounded. Did he honestly want them to believe his father was royalty? From what she knew, he had been a bum for real, and anyway, there was no country she knew of where gorgons could get into that kind of power.
>>”Shame, was hoping to meet the princess’s friends. She described them so well, had to match names to faces.”
>>”You’re right. I just wanted to come say hello, but I wouldn’t want to linger and be rude to your guests. Sorry for the trouble, Amethyst.”
And now Praxi was drinking too. The Atlantean ladies whispered and chattered, throwing glances at the gorgons, and at Amethyst who felt her cheeks turning red under their scrutiny. It took her a moment to gather her strength, raise her chin, and step around the gorgons with a tray of glasses.
"I know, can you believe it? Everything is just so different here from Atlantis. The school doesn't really have strict rules about who goes where and does what. It can even be fun sometimes." she winked at them. They took the drinks, although at least one of them seemed to inspect her glass a little suspiciously.
"So can we, like..." one of the ladies gestured at Carrick and Praxi. Amethyst sighed.
"Just come over here and take your seats." she offered, pointing at the couches and pillows in the other side of the tent. They all walked, giving a wide berth to the gorgons.
"Are you sure she is not like... you know?" one of them whispered to the princess, nodding towards Praxi "... poisonous, or something?"
>>”Bit rude shooing away a friend like that. She’s royalty... She’s the worst.”
"A bit rude crashing someone else's party." Amethyst shot back, but she was more focused now on the ladies heading in her direction. She had been preparing for their visit, but she never added Carrick and Praxi into her calculations.
>>“It’s wonderful to see you. The travel to this place was ghastly; I do not know how you’ve survived in a garish city like this for so long. Truly a trooper.”
"It is lovely to see you, Doria darling" Amethyst smiled, hugging the court lady "I'm glad you made the journey."
>>”Afternoon ladies! Which one’s the queen?”
Carrick was hell bent on making this awful for her. Amethyst gave him a glare.
>>“Oh, do the servants here not know proper decorum? What a strange place where gorgons interfere in the affairs demi-gods…”
"He's not a servant. He's just trying to get free treats." the princess frowned. If Carrick had been a servant, indeed he would have been trained better.
>>“Clearly they aren’t trained well here. Look at that thing. Clearly not a worker. Go, run off to your gutter, gorgon,”
Amethyst winced. Praxi never took well to the treatment of gorgons in Atlantis. And the gutter comment was uncalled for. She could have just gone back to the school, to the rest of the students.
>>”I’m a she, not an it, and you can’t tell me where to go.”
>>“Excuse you, please remember your place.”
>>"This is my place. I live here. You’re the outsider here, remember?”
"Praxi!" the princess frowned, desperate to fix the situation before it got out of control enough to ruin the party "This might be your school but you were not invited to this party. Please leave, the both of you."
