The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She could see the look in Carrick's eyes as she appeared in the window. It was a satisfying look, especially since he almost dropped out of sight in surprise. The princess was used to people reacting to her like that, but it really never got any less amusing.
>>”Thought ya couldn’t be seen with me? Bringing flowers and dressing like this? Pretty sure people would start asking questions. Not known for wearing a suit.”
"You cleaned up well" she noted, reaching out for the flowers. Flowers were awkward, there was nowhere to put them. She would take one and put it in her hair behind her ear. Hopefully one that did not clash with her jewelry.
>>”’nd how could I deliver on the promise of entertainment by going about things the normal way? I’m an entertainer love. Let me entertain. Ya look lovely. Set to go then?”
"Ready to be entertained." she nodded with a smile "But I'm not leaving through the window."
It would have been surprising, given that Amethyst's room was on the second floor of the building, but since she was expecting someone who had wings, it only took her a moment to realize what was happening. Regardless, she calmly finished putting on her jewelry, and looked at herself in the mirror before she paid any attention. She was wearing a lavender-colored off-shoulder dress, with deep purple amethyst jewelry. And a small silver tiara. Because. Carrick promised this date would be entertaining, and she expected him to deliver.
Another knock.
>>”I’ll start singing if ya don’t answer.”
Amethyst pulled her curtains apart, giving Carrick a look.
>>"Some people are taught to behave like proper people and pick up after themselves. Usually around the toddler stage you don't appear to have grown out of."
The princess looked the girl over again. She seemed intent on picking a fight. Or teaching her a lesson or something. Obviously, Amethyst had never been taught to pick up after herself; she had maids and servants for that work, as any royal would. She did not see it as a failing. Now that she lived at the school, she had to do the basic necessities of keeping herself tidy, which was, honestly, annoying. But the gemstones, well. The kids needed some entertainment, didn't they?
>>"Someone could hurt themselves! Why in the kami are you.. expelling them everywhere?!"
"Hurt themselves?" the princess arched an eyebrow "Honestly, you are the first one to complain about free gemstones lying around."
Amethyst sneezed out another shower of gemstones, when someone piped up behind her:
>>"Your just going to leave those lying around?!"
Oh, great. There was, like, one person in this building who didn't like free shinies?
"You can keep them" she shrugged, attempting to walk on, but the pink-haired girl cur her off. She'd seen her before in class, whenever she deemed to attend, and she vaguely remembered her sleeping.
>>"Your leaving quite the obstacle course laying around for other people."
"Someone will pick them up" the princess pointed out, gesturing at the broom in the girl's hand. Praxi or Carrick were not the only ones in the building who liked finding free gemstones, and sick as she was, she could not be bothered to pick them up anyway.
Amethyst did not appreciate having "a cold." She had never had it on Atlantis, but since she'd come to the Mansion, she had it on and off. The healer said something about her 'immune system', and categorically refused to do anything about it. So, in the absence of servants, the princess had to resort to mediocre tea, whatever 'cold medicine' was, and looking awfully under the weather.
The worst was the itching in the nose. Normal people usually had mucus running from everywhere, but Amethyst was far from normal, which meant she had gemstones dropping from her eyes and nose, and occasionally her mouth, basically all the time. Jade, topaz, and sapphires dotted the trail in her wake, and feeling sick and miserable as she was, she could not be bothered to pick all of them up. She knew Praxi or Carrick or some Mansion kid would get to them soon anyway.
Walking down the hallway towards her room, the princess stopped, suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to sneeze. And she did. A small shower of sapphires and jade clattered to the floor, and the princess huffed, continuing on, carrying a large mug of tea in her hands.
So, Carrick was asking her to go on a date with him. Kind of like the time they went singing. Amethyst wondered what the Atlantean ladies would say if they heard that. No doubt they would either think it was hilarious, or offensive. She looked at Carrick, looking kind of defeated with his head down. What was his problem? It just made her more frustrated with American relationship things. Concubines were so much easier than dating.
>>”Hmm?... But you were so good at it. Not like I can go anywhere anyways... Didn’t hear a no.”
He perked up eventually, and the look on his face made the princess both roll her eyes and bite back a smile.
"I will say yes if you actually clean up" she pointed at the water, standing from the edge of the tub and walking out of the bathroom "And you will have to let me know what this date is supposed to be. It better be interesting."
>>”Yer royalty. Part of the job innit? Yer less of a bully than yer friends though.”
Amethyst folded her arms. She never really thought of royalty that way; it was their right... but deep down, she had to admit she did not really like the way the ladies talked about Carrick and Praxi. Did that make her a bully too? She was not even sure she understood the word right, but Americans used it a lot, to describe people who hurt and tortured other people. Sure, Amethyst had a healthy sense of superiority, but she did not enjoy causing pain. Unless it was to a personal enemy.
>>”Fer **** sakes princess I just asked ya out and I told ya I don’t like bullies. If I thought you were a bully I wouldn’t even be here would I?... Christ yer difficult.”
"You actually want to go on a date with me?" the princess blinked, looking at him again "Like, the time at the singing place?"
He had insisted at the time it was a date, even though she'd clarified it wasn't. And dates usually meant... romantic involvement. Did he want to be a concubine?... It was all terribly confusing.
>>"Told ya before, I had a shower. I was gonna use it eventually.”
"Right."
>>”So ya have friends then. Sounds like ya got some relationships like everywhere else.”
The princess sighed. Carrick looked... what annoyed? Frustrated? She was still not sure what she'd said to upset him, but whatever she did say about concubines way clearly not what he wanted to hear.
>>”I’m just a gorgon.”
Now, that sounded wrong. He was, technically, by Atlantan terms, but for the first time... it sounded wrong.
>>”Rather take ya on a date. Was that a job offer? Imagine ya be disappointed. Part cat.”
He flicked his tail at her. Amethyst looked down at it. He had animal parts, and a feral side; on Atlantis, he would be the lowest of the low. But he was not just that. He was a lot more. The princess looked away.
"It's not a job." she muttered, wrinkling her nose. That would have been prostitution, and she did not deal with that. But it was hard to tell if Carrick was making fun of her now.
"Is that what it looks like?" she asked, thinking back on the conversation they just had "You think I bully people?"
Carrick stood up all of a sudden; he was flushed, and seemed strangely excited about something. Amethyst looked up at him; the thought of averting her eyes never crossed her mind in the moment. She felt amused about the whole thing. Somehow, Carrick had concluded he was her concubine.
>>”ya said a concubine someone who isn’t just fer sex. Companionship.”
"Right." she nodded. It was also very much for sex, but she'd let him teach the end of his train of thought before she pointed that out.
>>”I said we’re friends at least. You said we have different ideas of relationships... People. Ya said you got to pick them.”
Amethyst tilted her head curiously. Carrick plopped back down.
>>”That why ya suggest I come use yer tub? One of the perks? Of being a concubine I mean.”
Amethyst let out a little laugh.
"I suggested you use my tub because you really needed to get cleaned up" she pointed out. "And no, being friends... doesn't make you my concubine. It's not just the companionship alone, you know." she smirked, looking down at him as he sunk back into the bathtub. "Why? Would you wan to be?"
Carrick paid rapt attention to her musings about relationships. Amethyst had never really put words to any of it... it was just the way things were in her word. It was strange to talk about it out loud, trying to explain marriages and concubines and relationships to someone from a completely different world.
>>"Sounds a bit lonely. Fer the concubine at least. Ma and Da were married, didn’t stop him from disappearing fer decades at a time.”
The princess shrugged. Concubines never really complained. Mostly they were people from the lesser nobility, or occasionally even from the common demigods, who found it very lucky to be invited to be the companion of royalty, and they enjoyed it while it lasted. Her only non-Atlantean concubine, Sam, did his own thing and lived his life freely apart from their encounters.
She was jolted out of her musings, and tucking in the last few feathers, when Carrick sat bolt upright with a sudden realization.
>>”Wait… am I yer concubine?!?”
The princess almost lost her balance on the edge of the tub as the wings snapped open, and she turned to look at Carrick, raising her eyebrows.
>>"Yeah, because they were mean to Praxi she didn’t deserve that. Never liked bullies.”
The princess frowned. The truth was, the Atlantean ladies had not treated Praxi and Carrick any differently than they would treat any other gorgon at home. But looking back on it now, he was not wrong. It did sound... bad.
>>”’nd the only one who thought we were doing anything was the guy who lost the shouting match. Not the smartest man if yer looking for examples. and yeah, concubines aren’t really a thing here. Guess that’s like a prostitute though. Sex fer goods or services.”
"See, that's different." the princess pointed out. Prostitutes existed on Atlantis too, but royal concubines were not that.
>>”Was more curious bout yer ideas though.”
Amethyst sighed, working on the last of the feathers before he moved to the other side of his wing, taking a seat on the edge of the bathtub. She mulled over the question quietly for a bit.
"See, when you are royalty... you are rarely ever alone. You have servants, ladies in waiting, family, companionship... concubines are not really there for sex. Well, yes, but also for a different kind of company. You get to choose them, for yourself." she shrugged "We don't... what do you call it? Date. Not the nobility, anyway. You will never marry a concubine, and you don't show them off in public. Marriage, is something for politics. But Atlantis, it's a lot less prudish about having harmless fun."
There he went again, looking all sheepish. His tail flicked water in her direction and the princess wrinkled her nose. He definitely smelled better now with the bubbles and the soap, and the wing was beginning to look decent as well.
>>”Sorry. Curious now. What kind of relationships do you usually have?”
"Oh, come on" the princess rolled her eyes "You crashed my party and made comments about the kind of friends I have. And apparently concubines are not a thing in this country, because people make judgy faces when I talk about them. And people in the park thought I have sex with you because we were eating hot dogs." she added with a smirk "I'm just saying, people have different ideas about relationships..."
Carrick was most decidedly not a royal pet. First off, there was nothing royal about him, in terms of behavior, and second... well, he was not a pet. Amethyst was beginning to think it would be weird to keep a person as a pet.
>>”Ah, well that’s good I didn’t agree to it then. The idea of strangers touching me wings while in me birthday suit just... Then again I’d have to get to know them. Be weird otherwise.”
Carrick shook his hair and sprinkled her with water; the princess yelped. He seemed less flustered now about the whole nakedness thing. Did it mean they were friends?
>>”Sure hope we are… I mean… never agreed to bath in front of someone before… in this skin at least. Modesty goes out the window with the big guy. Can’t even find pants for ‘em. Not that I like pants in that form anyways.”
The big guy being his beast form, she figured. He had taken off his clothes and skin, so yes, that form was definitely less modest than this one. It wasn't really an answer, but he did kind of state they were friends, just because he was sitting naked in her bathtub and she was working on his feathers.
>>”I mean, I don’t have just anyone touch me wings, love. What did you think we were?”
"How should I know?" the princess huffed, but there was a smile in the corner of her lips "It's not like we have the same concept of relationships."
>>”Yeah know I can always bring ya on the next one. Don’t have a beautiful partner in crime yet, I mean, Zek’s alright sure. Not me type though.”
Amethyst huffed at the offer. The last thing she wanted to do was to go out on some wild adventure where people got beaten up at a circus. She was flattered by being called beautiful though, and the unspoken assumption that she was Carrick's type. Well, more his type than whatever a Zak was. Not that she wanted to be anyone's type. But at least it was as close to a compliment as Carrick had ever paid her.
>>”I’d let ya know if I had to go anywhere, you’d hear me. I’m good at shouting.”
He would. She remembered him roaring at the man in the park. It was somewhat reassuring to know he would not just take off.
>>”Is this the royal pet treatment?”
"No" the princess huffed and chuckled, tucking some feathers into place "If you were a royal pet, I'd have servants to do the grooming."
The question was valid, however. He was not a royal pet (by mutual agreement) and he was not a concubine. The princess mulled the question over. The third option was kind of a foreign concept to her.
>>"Too soon to tell honestly, been lucky so far but I was curious to what you were putting in the drinks."
There was more nervous chatter among the ladies, and Amethyst gave the griffin another indignant glare. She was most decidedly not poisoning the drinks, but she was feeling the temptation to poison him right now. She had been preparing for this visit for a long time, and he was absolutely ruining it for everyone.
And then he went and licked Praxi.
>>”More sweet than anything. part cat, curious bout everything.”
The Atlantean ladies gasped, whispering among themselves as they stared. The words 'barbaric', 'gorgon', and 'disgusting' were definitely mentioned, although in their own language. Amethyst huffed, trying to find a way to salvage the situation, and failing.
>>”Well, thank you. Good to know I’m… er, tasty? Though… maybe we should get going, curious kitty? Amethyst and her friends seem bothered by things they can’t understand.”
The mood was definitely ruined. Amethyst turned her back to the griffin and Praxi, looking at the ladies, who looked equal parts shocked and delightfully scandalized. She knew stories of this visit were bound to spread in Atlantis like wildfire. Suddenly, the ladies had a whole lot of questions...
