The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Roxie wasn’t shy. She hit on people aggressively and often, especially when it seemed that there would be some reciprocation. Even if flirtation just stayed that, a briefly exchange of coy words, it was still an action that Roxie was not shy with. But that wasn’t to say she didn’t take another’s feelings into account first. There was always a bit of danger, of getting too wrapped up in the moment. Roxie, after so many years, did have an expert control of her abilities, but she couldn’t blame Diana for feeling a bit of trepidation.
Trying to ensure that she was listening to the other’s fears, Roxie quietly inquired if this would be a problem. She preferred to be upfront with these things rather than built up hopes for the evening only to have it come crashing down in awkwardness. If this was truly a fear that would haunt Diana for the rest of the night then Roxie was going to respect that.
>> ”Oh, it’s not a problem at all. I’m sorry. I guess I’m just nervous. I… well, I don’t really do this.”
The bouncer smiled. Diana was so adorable. As she said, it was clear that this was something that she didn’t do often. Maybe it was the thrill of the moment, or a shake up from her routine, but whatever the case, Diana seemed almost committed to seeing where this evening went. For as straightforward as Roxie could be, she could also be a rather understanding guide whenever the situation called for it. And it certainly seemed that Diana needed a gentle, guiding hand for this.
”Please, don’t apologize,” Roxie beamed. ”I prefer upfront honesty than trying to navigate it alone. And, really, if any any point that you’re uncomfortable, just tell me.” Her smile grew softer. ”I don’t bite.”
A hand found its way into hers. The gesture was sweet and one that the ex-dancer felt a small flutter course across her skin. Her normal pattern would have called for her to try and check out early and get home, but she needed to tread carefully and not overwhelm or scare Diana off. Instead she just gave her hand a comforting squeeze.
>> ”You’re making it easier, though. Fun even. Thanks, Roxie.”
”I’m happy to oblige.” A quick glance around and Roxie turned back to Diana with a smile. ”Would you...care to dance? I think I can break away to share in one.”

>>"Javier's fine...Sorry it's just... my hand slipped."
Roxie nodded as she watched the man give her a little wave as opposed to shaking her hand. She didn’t hold it against him, some people just didn’t like to shake hands. Javier was rubbing the back of his head, probably from being nearly knocked off the lemur and it’s massive tail. Still, if he could hold onto the beast for as long as he did, he should be able to take a blow or two to the head. He was probably fine.
”Well great to meet you, Javier. Glad that you were there to help when you were.” She grinned. He was a nice looking guy. And obviously he had some muscle to him. It was probably inappropriate for her thoughts to be heading in the direction that they were right now but…
>>"PENGUIN!"
She could scarcely finish her thought. The other man’s body collided with her’s and Roxie was sent sprawling into the ground with him firmly on top of her. Normally she was fine with things a bit rougher but even as he had his face buried into her chest and the thoughts of his last word ringing in her ears, she wasn’t prepared for what she saw. Waddling above them was a penguin; a giant penguin. A ear-splitting chirp flew from its beak as it continued on. Roxie lay there, back flat on the ground, a man’s face buried between her chest, and all she could do was stare dumbfounded as the beast lumbered on.
As she lifted her head, she caught Javier’s eye and gave him a confused look. ”What the hell is going on here?”

Okay, Roxie was going to go for it. Why not? Jay was charming, handsome, and he looked like he could keep up with her the rest of the night. Boyfriend material? Hell no. Warm company for the night? Hell yes. Roxie could see some fun times ahead and she would be denying herself if she didn’t at least try. So with a sweet smile and a flirty gaze, she decided that she would go ahead and offer an...invitation. Nothing outright or promising, but just enough to see what he would do with it.
2:30am. That was when she was off. Was he willing to wait around for her? Though he wasn’t more than a bedmate, she hoped the answer was yes. Girl’s gotta get her kicks somehow, right?
>>"Two-thirty, huh? Oh, I'd be game. I'm sure I can find some way to occupy my time while I wait,"
She grinned and nodded her head. The smile on her lips was playful as she gave him some parting words. ”Good…” another smirk. ”...then I can occupy your time afterwards.”
With that she turned and continued her shift. She didn’t bother Jay, but instead was busying herself with her duties of cleaning up the bar, chatting with the clientele, and pouring drinks. If her future companion needed another, she would gladly provide but she kept their talk minimal, preferring to not get distracted the rest of her shift. She wanted to focus on getting things done before she left. By the time that the last customer had left, Roxie shooed everyone out proceeded to close up.
2:30am
Roxie, still dressed in her tight jeans and loose top, pulled a leather jacket over her shoulders as she stepped out the back door, into the alley. Her dufflebag slung over her shoulder she cast an eye down both ways of the alley before locking the door behind her. She told Jay to meet her out here so she was hoping that he wasn’t standing her up. Otherwise, not only would she be disappointed, but she was liable to shove a beer bottle down his throat for keeping her from procuring another companion before the evening was out.
Stepping off the step and onto the wet concrete, she cast a glance around before she called out carefully. ”Jay? You here?”

What was she doing? She didn’t know what she was doing. Who could possibly know what they were doing in this situation? It wasn’t everyday that you were attacked in a zoo by a giant primate. But if there was one thing that Roxie knew about this world was that if you couldn’t talk yourself out of a situation, then you could certainly try punching your way out. The lemur wasn’t exactly leaving them any options.
She turned to her new comrade and inquired if he would be able to handle the beast for a just a few moments. It would have been polite to wait for an answer but she didn’t have it in her to wait. Instead she just let go, letting the mutant (really, what else COULD he be?) handle the beast’s tail as Roxie ran up to the side.
A flying leap and the beast was startled seeing her devil-may-care movement almost flicking its prisoner off its tail.
>>"Ow!"
She heard the gasp of pain but she didn’t have the time to check. Instead she reared back and lashed out with as much strength as she could muster. It wasn’t the strongest punch she could deliver, but it was the strongest that she could muster with her surroundings. Fist buried into fur as her knuckles connected with the tough flesh, making it concave before the beast let out a guttural cry of pain before falling away to its side.
Roxie landed expertly, straight on the balls of her feet, knees bending, and hands catching her against the concrete. She gulped, straightened up and gave a few cautious looks to the giant lemur. A second and she straightened up before cautiously kicking it with her toe. It didn’t stir.
>>"You just... punched a lemur, didn't you."
Her head snapped in the direction of the voice and she smirked as she spotted her comrade letting go of the tail. She moved towards him and nodded. ”I did. Seems effective too. Are you alright Mister…?” She waited for a name.
>>”Natural toughness, eh? If I catch your drift, then I guess there’s more to you than meets the eye. Interesting,”
Roxie could see that little twinkle in Diana’s eye. Normally she didn’t talk about her mutation. It tended to put people off. They didn’t like the idea of being around someone who was stronger than them, at least abnormally stronger. Some women got a kick out of it, even some men, but for the most part it never really worked out well for her. Since then at most she would allude to it to try and gauge someone’s reaction. Most were pretty dense but then there were some people, like Diana here who wasn’t running away. That was a plus.
The purr curled up Diana’s throat as she stepped a little closer. She full had Roxie’s attention now, who had turned to face her with aa brilliant smile on her face. She was supposed to be working but it was too hard to concentrate when a pretty woman like this was giving you complete undivided attention. It was what spurred her on to return the question. After all, Diana was gorgeous and utterly fit. What did she do?
>>”Running, a little bit of yoga, good eating—for the most part. I also take self-defense classes and I might toe the line of being a gym bunny...We aren’t all born with ‘natural toughness,’ after all.”
A sly smile slipped across her lips. Diana was a coy and teasing one, with a particularly wondrous choice of words that filled the bouncer’s mind with scantily clad outfits and fluff-ball tails attached to the bottom. A nip of her lip kept her imagination from running too far.
”Maybe not…” she grinned. ”...but you’re certainly doing well enough as is.”
She took a sip of her water and cast a glance out over the dance floor. It was a quick glance but it was all she needed to ensure that everything was still fine. It would be her luck that at this point in a successful seduction that someone would try to force a dance or get a little too belligerent on the dance floor. Needless to say, she wouldn’t have appreciated that.
Appeased that all was status quo, her attention returned to lovely companion she was quickly making “friends” with.
>>”I’m not looking to be rude. I guess I can be a worry wart at times, but your… you know. Is it the kind you have full control over? You know, if someone was hypothetically tangled up with you, would they walk away with all pieces intact?”
It was a little odd of a question but something that she probably shouldn’t have been too surprised out. Though she didn’t give a lot of details as to her mutation, it was still enough to make someone pause. She was trying to seduce Diana so maybe it should have been expected that she would have some...concerns. Still, while it was a bit forward, she couldn’t fault the woman for trying to get a few facts.
Reaching over, her gloved fingers found Diana’s hand upon the bartop. A delicate index finger moved across the woman’s bare hand, slipping gently between her fingers, over her knuckles and along the back of her hand. ”Trust me, sweetheart...after so many years, I’m more than careful.” A teasing smile. ”Tender...even.” But afraid she was beginning to overstep her bounds, she retracted her hand and a more serious expression colored her face. ”Would that be too…risky forr you? I mean...I’d get it. Really.”
>>”Well, let’s not be too hasty. Who knows how I want to enjoy my night?”
Roxie was so on board. She loved this flirtatious repartee. Even if the night didn’t pan out into anything worth wild and this was just another drunk girl pretending to be interesting, Roxie would still take it as a win. Of course she would prefer the evening to end with little roll under the sheets, she would be fine with just a few memories of sweet words being uttered between them. Besides, it made her evening go by faster and she wouldn’t have to be in this ridiculous cloak and leaf-enamel pin. But she wouldn’t make any hasty judgments yet. The night was still plenty young…
The music began to switch over to something slower and the crowd responded by breaking off into pairs. Roxie kept her eyes on the scene, but not before she glanced back to see Diana pressing just a little bit closer. She could always feel the purr forming in her throat but she drowned that particular kitten with a sip from her water bottle. The other, however, was quickling coming to attention as the gap closed between them.
It was then that she felt it, that small, inquisitive grip as it squeezed her bicep. Roxie smirked a bit, lifting her arm and offering the woman another flex of her arm as she tested out the density of her musculature.
>>”So what’s your secret? Martial arts? Boxing? Or are you just tougher than you look?
Roxie turned, her hip pressed against the bar as she gave Diana her full attention. A coy smile on her lips she began her explanation. ”A little of everything,” she admitted. ”I used to be a dancer, actually. That alone has some pretty harsh workouts. But throw in some boxing, a little MMA training, and…” she whispered in Diana’s ear. ”...some natural born toughness, and you have the recipe to make.”
She didn’t care to really talk about herself, but Diana’s question was vague enough that Roxie could view it more as a chance to praise herself and flirt further. But she would quickly take the opportunity to turn things around, giving Diana a soft once over before responding.
”What about you, hon?” She asked. ”What’s your secret to keeping so...shapely? Yoga? Pilates? Or just blessed from birth?”
Okay so Roxie was a bit more encouraged than she thought she would be. Normally these nights tended up as attempts to fend off unwanted advances or setting her sights on one person to bring home and work to forget the shittier moments of her life. But it seemed that the formula was turned on its head when Roxie herself was being so obviously eyed for attention. And it wasn’t coming off from drunken, slurred words or nervous attempts to impress her, it was just a pretty woman looking for a flirtatious smile -- the bouncer was all too eager to give it.
Diana. It really was a sweet name, the kind that rolled tenderly off the tongue. When she asked what it was that Roxie was doing here, she almost felt a little nervous about explaining. Not a lot of people took her line of work seriously, some guessing that she was some equal opportunity hire or others thinking the job was too ‘manly’ for someone with her face. It didn’t take much to show them the error of their assumptions, but it was enough to scare most away for the evening. The few that remained, well, they only did so so they could tell a story.
But Diana? She wasn’t running. As a matter of fact, she almost seemed a little spurred on by the revelation. Instead of disbelief or a shudder of fear, the other woman leaned a bit closer; an action that Roxie more than welcomed.
>> ”Security, eh? So does that mean if someone gives me trouble tonight, it’ll be you who sweeps in, cloak flapping in the wind, to rescue me and defend my honor? Though admittedly, if you try that tonight, you might just look like you’re bullying someone out of their lunch money.”
Roxie chuckled. ”I’m not sure that much theatricality will go into it…” she said as she lowered her voice, giving the room a quick glance. ”...but I would me more than happy to defend your honor.” She leaned back again, smirking. ”But yes, if anyone gives you trouble,” She waggled a balled-up fist. ”Just let me know. Pretty woman like you should be allowed to enjoy her night…” A small, devilish smile. ”...unmolested.”
Roxie didn’t know what she was doing. She had fought loads of things before but there was something about this situation that was just...odd. Thugs, criminals, other mutants, she had fought all of that but this was something decidedly different. How does one go about fighting giant mutant animals? On top of which, the lemur didn’t see all that aggressive, it was more just panicking out of the sheer uncertainty of what was going on. Roxie had to admit that if the same happened to her she would be just as confused.
Even more interesting, though, was the handsome man who seemingly was trying to help. He was holding onto the tail of the lemur but he wasn’t being thrashed around as one would expect. Instead he was actually gripping the appendage and keeping the animal from escaping. But this was a job for two and Roxie was quickly to jump into it. With their combined efforts the beast was no longer advancing.
She couldn’t help but comment -- something that the other reciprocated.
>>'You are too"
Roxie smirked. That was fun. But now they were stuck with a giant lemur and with no idea what else to do about it. The two of them stayed close, trying to reign the animal in but it seemed that their efforts were only serving to antagonize it further. They needed to do something to fix this...
>>"Uh... now what?"
It was scared. It needed to settle down. Music wasn’t going to do it and food was...that would take too long. They would have to take a more direct approach. Roxie ground her teeth and shot the other a small smile. ”Think you can handle this for five seconds?”
She didn’t wait for an answer. Letting go she let the other man take the full force of the lemur as it tried to escape from his grip. Using this Roxie ran forward, alongside the beast and balled up her fist. If they couldn’t soothe it then she would knock it the f**k out. She ran, hard and fast, until she was up near the creature’s face and leapt up. A battle cry on her lips, she lashed out with her fist, ready to drive it hard into the lemur’s cheek. She hoped it would be enough to knock it out…
Roxie knew who she was going to hang out with for the night. Even if this led nowhere, the woman was interesting and quite pretty to look at. There were worse things that could go on this evening so she was going to take this opportunity to engage in someone at least somewhat fun. Besides, the woman was saying all the right things. It wasn’t like Roxie was getting any kind of standoffish attitude from her, nor were her sweet words being met with any kind of discomfort. For the bouncer that was her clearance to proceed. And proceed she shall.
>>”Well, you’re making quite the assumption. I’m pretty sure I approached you, didn’t I?”
She smirked, tilting her head a bit as she watched the woman. ”And I couldn’t be more pleased about that,” she grinned. A small shrug of her shoulders followed. ”Maybe you’re the kind that would rather take charge than wait for someone to come to you?”
A passing thought, little more…
Roxie decided that she would introduce herself. It was a bit silly to do so now since she had her name tag out on full display (along with her interest) but it was just polite. So she greeted the lovely blonde with her name and a tender smile.
>> ”No sense in holding your cards once you’ve shown them. Fair is fair, though: Diana Dancer.”
Her hand slipped into hers. She couldn’t feel much through the gloves she wore but Diana seemed to have a stronger grip than she would have guessed. Roxie found this exhilarating as she shook her hand. Diana, pretty name for a pretty lady. The name was so unique, as well. It wasn’t as if it were something she were going to forget either. Especially not when the song over the speakers suddenly began to play Alton Jon’s “Miniscule Dancer”. It was probably the closest to kismet or a sign from above that Roxie had ever experienced.
”Diana…” she practically purred the name. ”...so nice to meet you.”
>>”So what do you do here, then? Inattentive bartender? DJ off her shift? Professional charmer tasked with engaging and occupying the time of the patrons? I’m not all that familiar with the ins and outs of a club, clearly.”
She giggled. Diana really was a sweet one. After taking a small swig of her water she inched a little closer to make their conversation more private, and to so that they didn’t have to shout over the music. ”I bartend, just not here.” She replied. ”Actually...I’m the security.” She nodded out to the dance floor, milking the air of strength and mystery that the position usually carried with it. It could be impressive to certain parties. ”I’m working the floor tonight. Just making sure that people are having a good time, but, you know, not too good of a time.” She leaned in and smirked. ”Otherwise I’ll have to get rough.”

Roxie was intrigued. Jay was handsome and he knew all the right things to say. He was clearly practiced when it came to trying to seduce a woman. His words and his roguish glances, they were enough to make Roxie want to take him by the hand and drag him to the back storage room for a quick one. Clearly he was sent here by the gods to utterly test her resolve; he was practically an archetype for the kind of guy that Roxie would throw herself out unashamedly. Then again, it wasn’t as if she were trying all that hard to deny him either.
The flirtation game was strong.
There was obviously some nerd speak there when it came to the subject of his band. Wyvern. She wasn’t well-read in a lot of the fantasy stuff but she knew enough to call a spade a spade when it was presented to her. Normally this kind of thing would have been a knock against him but, not knowing if the band name was his creation or just what he had to contend with as someone else’s, she supposed she could be lenient. Besides, with a face like that, how could she say stay mad?
>>"And that, is why I don't pass out demos...After replacing their former bassist, I pretty much also became the unofficial PR and booking guy...Being more experienced in that field, they found I can usually land them better gigs. But nah, instead of demos, it's easier just to put word out, maybe get someone with a venue to check out another gig, and let it go from there. Honestly it saves on time and money that way, and that's space for one more thing in your trash can,"
She smirked. So he was the new fish. Not only that, but he was taking it upon himself to get the name out there because he was the one with the most experience doing so. Makes sense. Maybe she would have to listen to his music after all, especially if he was a world that he was that familiar with. She always preferred experience to novices.
The line was getting thinner between the two of them. After he had made some off-handed comment about doing a solo, she teased him by suggestion that duos tended to be better. Really it was up to one’s preference but for her, she usually always enjoyed a partner. And given the flow of their dialogue, it only seemed appropriate to share such thoughts with the intriguing Jay. And such was it that he closed the gap a bit closer.
>>"If you're suggesting a...duet...I'd certainly be game,"
Roxie smirked. He was interested, she was interested, she didn’t see a wedding ring on him, so far all signs pointed towards a rather fun night. Not that she was worried that the guy could be some psycho reading to tear her head off -- she’d beat him to it if he tried anything. Given that she had no other plans for the night other than finishing her shift and heading home...why not? She wasn’t going to deprive herself a tasty morsel like Jay if she could help it.
”...All right,” She grinned. Taking a dish rag, she dried her hands and started t step away from him but not before she clarified. ”I get off at 2:30am. Maybe…” a teasing smile. ”...I’ll take us someplacee to set up a…private performance? If you’re actually game?”
One of two things will happen: A.) he’ll jump a the chance and agree to wait until she was done, or B.) he’ll admit he was just flirting for the sake of flirting and had no real intentions of trying to bed her. In either case, the situation would work out for her.
It was weird. With all the crap that goes on in this city and something still occurs to surprise her. She has seen people fly, seen rifts in the fabric of reality, and still the thing that surprised her the most was seeing a giant lemur running through the Central Park Zoo. Seriously, her life just couldn’t get any weirder. But rather than continue to stand around and let weird just happen, she knew that she needed to act. Therefore, when vendor and cart went flying in her direction, she was the first to step up and immediately pluck the pedestrian from thin air.
Kneeling down to avoid more debris being tossed around, she turned to the older vendor who seemed too shellshocked for words. After ensuring that he was okay, she stood up and turned back to the…”menacing” creature as it began to lurk about the zoo in a confused panic. Once she heard the man’s fleeing footsteps, Roxie rolled her shoulder and started to advance on the beast. She didn’t want to hurt the creature as it looked more confused than menacing, but how else was she going to stop it?
Just as the lemur turned and began to move towards her, it suddenly stopped, as it something were pulling it back from the opposite side. Roxie lifted her brow in confusion until she took a few steps behind and found it wasn’t something holding the creature back, but someone.
>>"Uh-oh... help?..."
And he was losing his grip.
She was in the middle of Central Park. There weren’t many buildings around but there was enough infrastructure to at least make her stronger than the average man. She would only have to hope that it would be enough to actually do something.
So without another thought she bolted towards the man, her boots thundering against the ground, the flat of her stomach expose over the seam of her black jeans and the high cut tank top. A silver necklace bounced against her chest as she ran forward. When she got next to the man, she gave him an odd look before she reached around, grabbing the lemur further up by the tail and hauling him backwards. It seemed that with the both of them combined, they were doing something.
Her gaze snapped to the stranger and she smirked. ”You’re a strong one,” she grinned.

>>"With any luck, yes we will~"
Another smirk but Roxie played her cards close to her chest. She was enjoying this back and forth with Jay but she wasn’t going to give him the all clear just yet. Why not just have a bit of fun first? It was probably the only that she would get for awhile. Tonight seemed like it wasn’t going to get any more lively. As much as she loved most of the clientele, it was rather mind numbing. Even if nothing came from this interaction, at least Jay would serve as a suitable distraction for the next bit.
>>"Well, I don't know the one who does, and sometimes the best way to land a gig is put a bug in a bartender's ear,"
”Haha,” she grinned. ”I hear that one alot. You realize how my demos I get with pleads to ‘pass it on up’?” She leaned down, grabbing a small trashcan under the bar and lifted it. ”This is the boss’ file cabinet for demos.”
Roxie tossed the bin back down, her gloved hands falling to her hips as she leaned back and tilted her head. She looked Jay over again. Stagger Inn wasn’t known for its live music but surely she could talk Jaime into trying it out. He was a gruff, cantankerous old fart, firmly set in his ways, but often times he listened to Roxie’s suggestions. She didn’t know why. Maybe his kids didn’t visit him enough? Maybe he was senile? Whatever the case, he would often take her word with more weight; not that that was always a good thing.
Eh. Maybe if she heard Jay play she could pass it along, but not more than that.
>>"I'm in a band. Wyvern. Good kids, don't start trouble. They come in, play their gig, maybe have a drink, then go about their way. I like to stick around a bit, personally, Though, I'm not above a....solo performance, either."
Admittedly, she almost lost him with the name. The band’s name was Wyvern? Like, those cheap subdragon things in Monsters & Mazes? She snorted a bit, shaking her head. It was just a good thing that Jay had a cute face and a nice body (from what she could see) because the nerd sh*t was definitely not her scene. But she said nothing about it and, instead, smirked as she leaned in at his interest in a solo performance.
”Would you now?” she teased. ”Shame…” her voice dropped lower. ”...I hear that having a partner is so much more fun.”

The night was looking up. As Roxie leaned against the bar, her eyes fell over the woman who was sitting next to her. She was beautiful. Truly she was. She carried with her an exotic look that Roxie just couldn’t help but appreciate with every glance. Even the red cloak suited her, despite this not really being her deal. Honestly the bouncer was curious as to why she wasn’t being surrounded by adoring fans. Then again, maybe she was just more practiced at keeping the general, and wheezing, populace away. Kudos to her if so.
>>”Well, Tolkien would surely be disappointed with them for their misleading displays of borrowed creativity.”
Roxie smirked. Her eyes returned to the dance floor briefly, following the signs for people who tended to be the most irksome in bars. There were a couple who were drink far more than they should but it wasn’t necessarily enough to turn the dancer’s warning lights on. Rather she was merely gave him a passing gaze before she turned, her elbow against the bar as she gave the woman her full attention. She could spare to focus her attention for a few minutes, right? Especially when looking over such a gorgeous sight.
She tried to share some common ground. Someone as pretty as her surely must have had her fair share of nervous glances and clumsy lines. It would have been too strange if the opposite had occurred.
>>”Not yet, actually. Some people say I have an air of unapproachability which must be on full display tonight. Hard to believe, right?”
With a arch of her eyebrow, she snerked and shook her head. ”You? That hardly seems true.” A fleeting glance over the woman, not enough to be completely unsubtle but it was there if it were being looked for. ”Maybe you’re just waiting for the right person to talk to?” Another warm smile. ”I can attest that seem very approachable.”
Roxie pulled back. Right now it was just a friendly conversation with some lightly hinted flirtation. But this was a bar. Alcohol was flowing. She didn’t want to get her hopes up, just in case this woman was merely engaging in coy words but with no intentions of actually following through.
>>”So I was dragged out here by a nerdy coworker I’ve misplaced, but how about you? What gets a gal like you to done such a fetching green cloak?”
”Oh I’m sure your friend is around here somewhere. Only so many places they can hide. Maybe they’ve hooked up and making out with someone on the stairs?” She snorted. Ridiculous right? Like who does that in this day and age? When the question was turned back to her, Roxie glanced down and chuckled. She had almost forgotten she was wearing it. She reached up, touching the leaf-shaped broach before turning back to her new found friend. ”Oh. I’m working.” She reached under the cloak to grab the lanyard and badge. She lifted it, showing her picture, along with her name: Roxanne Rose. ”I guess the cloak is just part of the uniform?” She shrugged and then offered her hand. ”Name’s Roxie, by the way. Figure I may as well introduce myself since you already saw my name.”

>>“Never show your cards til the betting is done, my dear~ “
Roxie just grinned in reply. Goddamn, it was as if this guy had read her blog (if she were stupid enough to own on) before he came in tonight. The guy was a complete piece of work. He had an attitude, a swagger, and an overall handsomeness that was practically called out to each and every one of her nerve endings designated for bad decisions. But Roxie wasn’t one so easily swept and that sphinx-like demeanor she kept about her was more than enough to keep her from showing her whole hand. She was experienced enough to know how to play the game smart.
Her hand curled in his and she shook it firmly. She didn’t squeeze his hand too hard (she didn’t want to break it) she merely was just sharing in a bit of comradery. This city could be a real *itch and it was always comforting to know that you weren’t the only one being kicked in the teeth.
>>“Pleasure’s all mine,”
”Oh, we’ll see about that,” she grinned. If he wanted to play the flirtation game, then she would meet him blow for blow.
The saucy bartender may not believe in love anymore, but she did firmly believe in lust. Sometimes you just needed a warm bed to slip into and someone to help work off that building energy. She wasn’t saying that Jay had a definite foot over her threshold but she was willing to entertain the idea rather than dismiss it entirely. Roxie would still remain cautious. He was handsome, he was flirting, but there was every possibility that he was either a hidden psycho or she would wake up the next day with her wallet missing. So careful steps would be required, at least until she got a better bead on him.
>>“Ya know, if this place is into live entertainment, maybe you can here me play sometime.”
She snorted. ”I don’t hire the entertainment, I just pour the drinks.” She stepped away for a second, a small sway in her full hips as she poured a drink for another patron. Once that was done, she returned to the conversation with Jay. ”You got a band?” she inquired, tilting her head in a flirtatious manner. ”Or would this be a solo bassist performance?”
