The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Andrea had never been so acutely aware of her surroundings before. It seemed as if the creaking in the building had ceased, like the very foundation itself was waiting to see the outcome of the standoff. She could heard the male holding her breathing, wheezing very slightly like he had bad lungs. Her limbs were still shaking uncontrollably- she couldn't stop them... and all she wanted to do was flee. As if to make matters worse, the snakes within her hair were becoming active again as her grogginess wore off. The mans threat was still very present on her mind.
"...w-why do this?... Such v-violence is poin-" The arm tightened around her neck. "Shut up, will you! A don't need mutant scum preaching to me." Her lips sealed themselves shut, lengthy canines digging into her bottom lip as she stifled a whimper. She could hear the other male tinkering with the exit door, and tried to fixate her mind on something positive. At least Amber had gotten away, right? If the police were in the building, they'd find her...and she'd be taken from the building.
The sound of metal grating on metal, then a swift screech as the door was forced open reached her ears. The alarm connected to the door had long since died, so only the excited exclamation of "Got it!" from the other male and the pitter-pattering of rain reached her ears. The sudden sloshing of water, and the quickness of her captors partner vanishing into another room made the man holding Andrea jump. She was dragged around as he turned to point his gun in the direction of the room. The darkness prevented him from seeing the limp form of his partner, who had smacked his head fairly hard on the floor upon falling, and was more of less dead to the world for a while. "Damnit, this aint the time of games... Get your lazy butt up and get ov-" He was cut off by Jorge's sudden arrival. Andrea squinted through her glasses to see who the new voice had come from. “Why don’t we end this nice a quiet?”
The gun was returned to its previous place, pressed against her skin just above her ear. She was drawn once again out in front of the man, and after a moment she was able to see the man the voice belonged to. Her serpents hisses lowly, slithering about against her shoulders and neck while they tried to sort through all of the conflicting emotions of their host. Nothing was moving quickly, which in their eyes meant no intimidate danger was present. “Let’s not get trigger happy. We can talk nice and calm about this. Why don’t you just let her go, and we can walk out calmly outside?” Swear words burned her ears, and the gun next to her head clicked ominously.
Andrea's eyes widened, and she stared though her glasses at the man trying to negotiate with her captor. She was too struck with with overwhelming emotions to notice the water at her feet, much like her captor was too angry and distracted to notice as well. The way the man was talking to her... hush tone, sweet words. She got the overwhelming notion that she was going to die. Wasn't that how it always worked in the movies? The arm around her neck flexed, and she felt herself lifted onto her tippy toes. A feeling of desperation welled up in her chest, and her snakes reacted. Sloth slithered down her shoulder, away from the man holding her as his rage grew, and grew, and grew... The others, Vana, Hubris, and Ira, were busily winding themselves around the arm of the distracted man that held Andrea.
She heard the officer ask her her name, and the feeling of desperation in her chest doubled. He wanted to know the name of a soon to be casualty, perhaps? "...Andrea..." Fear left her accent thick and barely understandable due to the situation. Her captor tensed, growling deep in his chest, and she squeezed her eyes shut.... but... he didn't pull the trigger. In two ways he needed to keep her alive, one as a hostage, and the other as a shield. But the cop?... The cop, who appeared unarmed, he could easily do away with. He very politely told the officer to shove his questions where the sun didn't shine... and made a very typical mistake for a criminal. The gun was drawn away from Andrea's head, pointed quickly in Jorges direction, and he prepared to pull the trigger. Andrea's snakes acted on the flash of movement the only way they new how... six inch long fangs sank into the arm around her throat, and in an instant the thug felt a burning pain seep through the entire appendage. Instead of letting her go however, he tightened his grip and lifted her off her feet entirely as he reacted to the pain with anger.
Backed into a corner... Andrea felt her heart hammering away in her chest. Amber was so close to... turning... into something. Andrea did not know what, since she possessed no knowledge of the girls mutation... But whatever it was, it looked frightening.
The man she had injured was down for the count, his gun clattered to the floor where one of the other men picked it back up. Two guns were leveled in her and Amber's direction... and there was nowhere to run. She spared a glance at Amber, her nerves close to breaking, before her mind came to a rash, panicked decision and her body acted on its own. "Amber, run!" The twenty two year old darted forward, her serpents reacted to the surge of fear and adrenalin and lashed out with hisses and snapping teeth at the men in the doorway. Andrea threw herself into the closes gunman, while the other stumbled away from the door with a curse... it gave Amber a chance to run, at least... though Andrea didn't know what she was going to do for herself.
The fellow she threw her body weight into reacted by thumping back into the wall beside him. She moved to push herself away from him, and dart out into the hall, but something hard smacked into the side of her head. She saw stars and dark black blots over took her vision. Her snakes withdrew into her hair, feeling the confusion from the pistol whip the guy had dealt their mother. A warm hand grabbed her by the neck, and she was drawn closer as the thug shifted away from the wall. "I got her, don't think she'll be a problem for a bit." The other male was wary to step closer, what with the moaning man on the floor as a testament to Andreas dangerous serpents. "...What about the other one?"
The man holding Andy shook his head, and peeked out into the hall. "We don't need her, c'mon, lets head out... they've gotta heard the gunshots." Andrea felt herself led out into the hallway, and half dragged deeper into the building. The sound of dripping water reached her ears as pain from the new bruise forming at her temple blazed across her skin. The trio came to the end of a hallway, complete with an emergency exit. The grip in her neck shifted from a hand, to an arm around her throat, and the trio came to a sudden halt. The building was quiet save for the soft creaking of old, water damaged floorboards. People were moving, though the thugs couldn't tell from where.
"...Oh man... oh man... we should just make a break for it.." One man's worrying was silenced with an abrupt Shh, and the cold barrel of a gun was pressed to Andreas temple. She ceased her wiggling, and sucked in a frightened breath. " We ain't going nowhere until we're sure they won't follow..." Her captor breathed, then adjusted her until she was more or less before him like a human shield. "Just so you know... if those hissing black worms go for me, I won't hesitated to pull this trigger." Andrea hoped, for her sake, the serpents had understood that threat... Next, the man motioned for his companion to get to work jimmying the door open, and raised his voice so any of their pursuers woudl hear him clearly.
"Don't bother comin' any closer, officers. We've got us a hostage, and if you so much as show your faces I won't think twice about splattering her mutie brain all over the wall!"
Since coming to the sanctuary a second time, Andrea had been shown a different side of the building. She had seen hide nor hair of the girl she still had nightmares of, nor her little pet skunk, but she had met a few friendly faces. The receptionist had been very kind to her, more so than Andrea had expected at first- being so new and all. People she had chatted with here and there seemed nice... if a little strange (in what way she couldn't exactly put her finger on), but for the most part she was beginning to feel at home.
..not that it kept the terrible loneliness away at night. The Greek had found herself shedding tears more in the last week than she had in all of her previous years. Her room wasn't like the room she had shared with Verdy... it was cold, and barren of warmth. She missed bumping into people she knew, and she missed terribly the loud voice of a man that she had grown so accustomed to- even his awful cursing. There was one soul that kept her from delving into a fully anti-social life style though... a teen who had taken it onto herself to break the Greeks awkward shell and force her to have fun- whether she liked it or not.
Allie was new to the sanctuary, and right from the get go she had shown those who had met her that her small frame just barely contained her massive personality. A personality that sometimes (more often than not) grated on the nerves of those who she was trying to interact with. The girl was a mutant only because she had sprouted small blue scales all down her arms, back, and legs. Even though she lacked proper powers to match her attitude, she had marched herself towards those that held the title of mutant, and pretty much refused to leave. Andrea had been enjoying a lazy, secluded nap before a pounding started up at her door and she was dragged from her semi sleep. She had been thrust into borrowed clothing, an attempt at makeup was made- but thankfully failed, and she was dragged from her room with a hurried and excited explanation of where they were going.
Before she knew it the smell of beer- she assumed- filled the air in the packed little corner bar that Allie had dragged them to. 'Them' being herself, Allie, and Lenna- who she had pretty much begged to come along, least Allie be the end of her. Andrea glanced around the bar, wishing with all of her might that the eighteen year old at her side would let them cross into the other section of the bar, where people were sitting and enjoying nice, quite meals. The little fake ID Allie had slipped her felt like it was burning a hole in the back pocket of her borrowed jeans. She knew it was against the law to have such a thing... especially when you were technically not supposed to be in the country... but it was relatively hard for her to say no to peer pressure... and Allie in general.
She turned her attention from trying not to look suspicious, to where Allie had plopped them down. At a table in the middle of a rambunctious room, where men and women were jumping around whooping and hollering in celebration over something... and worst of all, Allie had vanished somewhere without a word. "....Have we been.." What was the word kids were using these days...? "...Ditched?" She turned her eyes to her heaven sent companion, who had thus far enabled her to look less like a Snake-haired Kermit the Frog (props to shin!), and more like a normal person. She had hardly spoken to Lenna since they had been dragged out into the night, but since Allie had disappeared, she figured now was as good a time as any. Andrea plucked at the shirt she had been forced into... some red silky thing that dipped way to far in back, and frowned at the pink concoction she had been handed upon arrival. It was no doubt a mixed drink... but she was unsure of what to do with it. She had never touched alcohol before...
Blew up... a- ... no. She wasn't even going to begin to try and figure that out. All she needed was the friendly smile Lenna gave her, and the youthful innocence Kaitlyn brought. "...I will... take your word on it." The young woman smiled lightly back, shouldering her back pack back up into its proper place.
"..So I guess... I'm staying then." That meant that she would need to be shown around... and given a room- possibly a roommate. Aura popped to mind again, (how could she not?) and Andrea briefly wondered if she had gotten the wrong impression of the girl.
She would have to look into that later... right now however, she was being led through the golden doors, into the hopeful safety and shelter of the sanctuary. "...I am very happy it was you who answered the door Kaitlyn... and you as well...Lenna." She would have to get used to that name. "...Anyone else and I might have been to scared to come inside." Again... but, they didn't need to know about her first visit...did they? She listened to Lenna talk, and Kaitlyn, and let the girl snatch up her hand to lead her into the building.
As she walked through the doorway, she spared one look back out to the street, before the doors were shut behind her....
The green woman was, as always, oblivious to the effect the picture wall had taken on Mat. She missed the subtle cues that others may have picked up on, due to inexperience with people and the excitement of the situation. On the upside, her bread was as tasty as it had been the last time she had eaten at the restaurant... and this time she wasn't alone! ...and better yet, this person appeared to understand her. She smiled, her nervousness over the question ebbing away and set her bread down.
No use getting full on the appetizer... Her own question seemed to strike something, though she couldn't tell exactly what. She blinked at him, tilting her head a little. She supposed that one could fall asleep in an unintentional way due to the movement of the bus... she had seen many a head nodding on her back and forth trips from the sanctuary into town... but her nerves had thus far kept her from experiencing the same thing. It was rather hard to fall asleep while surrounded by people, crammed into a giant tin can on wheels.
..not that staying awake had saved her the embarrassment of her snakes getting entangled with someone else...
He furthered his explanation, and Andrea felt her body still. Her excitement dulled, and she found herself suddenly rather sad- if only for the poor male in front of her. "..You cannot sleep?" Sometimes days at a time, he says. Her smile vanished, replaced by a deep, concerned frown. It was always when you thought you had it worse than everyone else, that another was brought into your life to put you back in your place. "...It is not silly, Mat..." She started, her concern being driven by the knowledge of what sleep deprivation felt like... and what it could do to a person. Images of her personal monster still haunted her in her dreams some times... she couldn't imagine what it was like to live in his shoes.
Before she could continue, a different type of chirp filled the air within the building. A happy, satisfied chirping... Shaded eyes turned and caught sight of Cricket making his way toward them, long legs carrying him in lengthy strides towards their table. "Dinner is served... Apologies for the long wait." One steaming plate was set in front of Mat, and another before Andrea. She sent a small smile the waiters way, and dipped her chin a little as she thanked him. He stuck around for a moment, making sure everything was absolutely perfect, before the tall man ushered himself away to take care of other business.
Andrea glanced down at her Moussaka, and the little green leaf salad that had been tucked into the corner of her plate, before glancing across the table at Mats food. He had a Duck dish, one that she had never tried before. Once cricket was out of ear shot, she ignored her food and turned her attention back to Mats lack of sleep, or rather, fear of it. "...It must be awful, to fear sleep.... I know what not sleeping feels like, but I have never not wanted to..." Her hand found her fork on its own accord, and she poked at her food solemnly. "...How do you deal with such a burden?"
Perhaps that was why he had seemed so... happy, when she had knocked him out. She could imagine that any resemblance of sudden, if forceful, sleep was a welcome thing. Seeing as one can't really fear something they don't see coming. She felt suddenly bad for withholding her own problems from someone who so openly shared his own. She had been a closed book to nearly everyone she had met since coming to the states... save for one person. Her poking stilled, and she scolded herself for playing with her food. "...We..... are most likely very different people. So.. I cannot in all honesty say that I understand what you are going though, or even where you have come from." Damn...she had always been so awkward at trying to relate to people. "I appreciate how...open you are." The Greek cringed inwardly... this, was probably another reasons she avoided people.
Having a raincoat came in handy today... seeing as a storm had rolled in and was currently sprinkling the late winter streets with a misting of water. She hadn't really intended to venture out today, but with the streets relatively calm, and the silence of her room pretty much killing her, the twenty two year old had decided against her better judgment to pull her snakes back into a sloppy pony tail with a big red ribbon, shrug her coat on, and make her way quietly out of her room. The air outside, which would have normally stunk of exhaust and smoke during this time of the day, rush hour, was oddly fresh and sweet because of the rain. The gorgon paused, standing alone on the corner of a street, waiting for the light to change to the little green walking man. She had been nearly run over to many time, too tempt fate on a rainy day. Sloth had slipped out from around her neck and was draped lazily about her shoulder, keeping an eye out for those who chose to venture to close to the girl.
"Calm down, Sloth... " She whispered, starting across the street when the light changed. If there was one good thing the addition of serpents had brought her, it was the distance they generally put between herself and people. Those that caught sight of the snake from a distance generally made sure to give her a wide berth, while those who lacked attention found themselves scuttling out of the way as her large albino serpent leaned out to investigate. "..Jesus-.. Keep that thing under control, lady!" A man muttered as he edged past, getting an eyeful of a pink flickering tongue and a scarred white snake face. Andrea kept to herself, ignoring the comment as she moved along. If the male hadn't been in such a hurry, yammering away on his phone while he speed-walked toward he, he would have had plenty of time to move...
A frown touched her dark, shadowed lips from beneath her hood, and she pulled herself off to the side of the sidewalk to let traffic pass her by. Perhaps it was rude of her to expect people to move... she had just become to accustomed to those not familiar with her to automatically make themselves scarce at her presence. Sloth curled around, his tongue flicking up to kiss her cheek, and she laid a gently gloved hand on his neck. Of all her snakes, the white one had grown on her the most...
"Did you hear that kid?... Ridiculous... preaching about S#@& like that... I can't believe people even give him the time of day..."
...Preaching? Her interest spiked, and she slipped back into the shadows next to the building, tucking her chin into Sloths cold scales while the two women walked toward her. "...I know, right? ... Like, I could go find a corner somewhere and stand around yelling nonsense all day, and people would believe me..." They passed, and she followed them with her eyes for a moment, before turning her chin to the way they had come. Andrea moved along the wall, keeping herself tucked away from the others on the sidewalk, and let her hand drop from sloths body.
She was interested in whoever they were talking about...
"..But I will say I try my best not to be afraid of what I don't understand. That's why I didn't shy away from you, I don't feel sorry for you at all. Heck, if anything, I envy you... You may feel the same way when you look at me but don't. I used to be ashamed of what I am and I used to hide myself away from people, thinking they could see that I was a mutant even though I looked normal."
She smiled, though she didn't have much reason to. She was happy that he had found a place in life where he could carry himself without shame. But... he gave her far more credit than she deserved. People were fools to consider mutations beautiful things... but more and more they were referred to as so. Talents to be envy, special powers to be admired.
People were so blind... "...Thank you, Bear." For many things... She felt a little less muddled, and she could think a little clearer... not that it really helped matters. She nodded along with his next statement, feeling the same. The mood to walk had vanished... slipped away on the wind as soon as she started thinking about the questions he had asked. "I do know of a place, It is not the best- mind you... but the room I stayed in was big.... and clean."
Clean was a good thing. A very good thing, when she though back to some of the places she had stayed in her first few nights in New York. Walking along, with her building in mind, she let herself lapse into the silence that had fallen over the two of them. Bear and her. Before she could return to thinking about how awkward trudging off to find a hotel with a man was, her thoughts were interrupted by Bears sudden question. She turned her head within her hood, and peered up at him through her glasses. Why was he called bear?
... She had assumed because of his size... but, maybe she was wrong. "Why do-" He cut her off... like it had been planned, and she grinned widely. The tips of her long canines peeing out from behind dark lips. So, she had been right... "...I am not afraid of you..." Her eyes returned to the path ahead, watching as a runner went out of her way to avoid the two of them. Her grin was replaced by a small, shallow smile, and she stuffed her hands into her pockets. " It is not always so bad to be the one who is avoided... " She mumbled, while leading them back out of the park. "...you will often meet those who will look at you, and choose to step into your life despite what others think, because of it."
The no-longer-green woman smiled bitterly, the points of now normal sized canines peeking out from between newly pink lips. "I need as much help as possible." She admitted, shifting her eyes from the young girl, back to the newly named Lenna. "I have only had them for a few days... I guess they are..." She struggled with herself for a moment, not wanting to label them as a mutation like others did, but as something more sinister. With Kaitlyn present though... and Lenna, she quickly squished the urge. "... an added mutation."
More importantly though, "...but, I cannot control them..." Her voice pitched into something serious, and for the first time she was debating whether coming to the sanctuary had been a bad idea for a different reason. She had assumed that no-one good could possibly reside within the building, but now... A child stood before her, as well as a woman who had been nothing but friendly to her.
Maybe... she couldn't stay here as well. "... Hair spray?" Andrea couldn't hold back a giggle, mostly due to the idea of putting the snakes, and possibly herself, into a fume related coma. "I don't know about hair spray... but I think that idea of yours about pony tails is pure genius." In fact, come to think of it... she had a length of ribbon in her bag somewhere. She took a moment to dig in her backpack until she found the length of green ribbon. With an urgency, she looped it around her hair and the limp snakes and tied it in a secure bow at shoulder level. Through the snakes would still be able to curl up and peek over her shoulders, they wouldn't be able to launch themselves out at people.
Grinning, she turned a little so Kaitlyn could see. "..Well, do you think it will work?" But... soon after, the funniness of the situation wore off, and she glanced back to Lenna. Her expression fell into a soft frown. "...Perhaps... It was not a good idea for me to come here though. I do not wish to put anyone in danger..." Gloved fingers wrapped around the limp white snake draped across her shoulders like a scarf, and she dropped her eyes to the ground behind her glasses.
Heyo... Sorry I haven't been around lately. RL and a bunch of others things are currently sucking up my time and imagination. :<
I'm going to try to balance everything though, seeing as I have a little bit of free time coming up before the weekend, then its back to Babysitting! Yay!....
Anyway, I'll be around a little more now, but for the most part probably with Lurk Mode Enabled.
She couldn't help but giggle at Mat's expression, and dipped her chin in a swift nod. "He is a mutant.. He can make chirping sounds with his legs. It's really quite entertaining..." And a bit disturbing, when the chirping sounds came at you whilst you were unprepared. She slipped her coat off again, now that the heat of the restaurant had seeped into her arms and legs. The scuffed up and battered red raincoat was lovingly folded into a little square, and set at her side while she contemplated what next to ask, to spur the conversation on. Mat's longing to return home made her feel for him- because she had similar wants sometimes.
The sound of a plate shattering and a few gasps broke the silence in the air. Moments later an angry crickety type of chirping echoed out from the back of the building, the kitchen most likely, and most of the restaurant went quiet to soak up the sound. Chirp chirp, chirp chirp, was not something someone generally heard unless it was night and out in the middle of a field. Andrea giggled again, stifling her laughter with a hand, and blinked at Mat through her glasses.
"What did he...? oh!" Her lips pulled back into a toothy grin, and with an energy she didn't know she had she jumped from her seat and latched onto one of Mat's hands. Half dragging, half tugging him with her, she skipped (which she stole from him) over to where they had entered and pointed at the wall. Behind the podium the woman had been standing at, was an array of snapshots that contained various mutants. Some were simply grinning and waving at the camera, while others were showing off their particular "talents". One of her gloved fingers landed on a picture of a balding gray skinned man who was easily balancing half of the staff on his shoulders.
"This is what he meant." Turning her chin, she smiled at him. "They have a custom here of taking pictures of the guests like us. A show of friendship I think." Her eyes returned to the wall, which was lacking a picture of her as Cricket had pointed out. "The last time I came here, they wanted to take a picture with me... but... I turned them down." The snakes in her hair shifted, little eyes peeking out to see if anything had gotten exciting again, and she sighed lightly. "I suppose this time I will have no choice.. They will surely want a picture of you too." She stood for a little while longer, before the blonde woman came back and she half dragged, half tugged Mat back to their seats.
Once she was situated, she turned her attention to preparing herself a piece of bread to calm her grumbling stomach. She had barely raised it to her mouth, to take a bite, before his question reached her and she froze. For a few moments she regarded the question he posed silently, before she caved and told herself that she at least owed him her honesty. "I am from Greece, Rhodes to be specific." The bread in her hand suddenly looked a little less appetizing. "I do miss home... sometimes. But not for the reasons most do." A bitter little smile tugged at her lips, and her snakes became restless for a moment. "Home... to me, was not filled with friends. It...was very quiet. Very lonesome at times... but I find myself longing for the solitude now days." Behind her glasses there was a distance to her eyes. She closed them for a second, took a breath, and let the sadness ebb away. "This...is hardly the time for sad stories though. New York is a new life for me... right now, with everything going on.. I must look towards the future." '..or surely the past will drag me under...' She took a determined bit of her bread roll, and chewed with a passion to rid herself of the thoughts of home... whether it be her home back in Greece, of the one right here in New York.
"Why were you sleeping in the bus?" She questioned, once her mouth was clear of food that is. "...I find it hard to sleep around strangers...er...well... on buses at least." She couldn't really say that anymore... not after she had met bear and all... She pinned Mat with an innocent, questioning look, and took another bite of her food.
As suddenly as the attack had started, it was.. over. The wiggling stopped, and seven large snakes- and many tiny ones- all went limp around her shoulders.
Andrea cracked an eye open, surprised to say the least to see another familiar face standing before her. Her hands lowered, eyes already marveling at the transformation that had happened near instantly. Pale peachy flesh peeked out from in between her gloves and her raincoat, and her hair had ceased it's wiggling when it had turned light brown. She blinked again, and a Small smile touched her lips.
Confusion leaked into her facial features, and she shifted awkwardly. The young girls question floated up to her, temporarily distracting her from the other woman's sudden name change. "...not very long, kaitlyn... In fact, they are why I am here."
Andrea poked at one of the snaked lazing about her shoulders. It didn't respond... like it was either dead, or in a very deep sleep.
Not good... not good. Andrea heard the commotion in the hall, she heard taunting, and she heard Amber... but she didn't turn around. She stared at the fire escape across the building, and frowned. It was too risky to jump... she wouldn't put Amber in danger like that, or leave her behind. One fat drop of rain slithered though a crack in the ceiling above her, hanging on for a moment before it released and smacked onto her forehead. She glanced up, noticing that outside it had started to shower, and her frown deepened. The next thing Amber said caught her attention, and when she turned to question the girl she froze in her tracks. She had never seen Amber struggle to transform before. A mouth full of sharp teeth greeted her, a strained expression.. shaking and that.. frightening voice change. It was a surprise Andrea didn't faint.
Downstairs the wounded thug had given himself up and confessed to both his own crimes, and that of his friends. Rather eagerly, too. He pointed out that one had vanished into the back, looking for another exit, and nodded upstairs the way Jorge had gone. News of the two girls left his lips, and he allowed himself to be carted down the stairs and outside in handcuffs to a waiting ambulance.
“This is the N.Y.P.D.!!”“The building is already surrounded! Drop your weapons and come out with your hands up!”
The gunslingers paused in their tracks, eyeballing each other quickly before they split up and made breaks for open doors. Two found themselves hidden by the next stairwell up, ears keen to pick up any sounds of approaching footsteps. The others made a dash for the room lacking a door at the end of the hall. Andrea was kicked back into work mode when the men appeared at the entrance her and Amber's room. She screamed, taking one quick step back, and her snakes leaped into action due to the sudden rush of fear.
Hubris lunged forward and opened his maw wide. Two slim fangs extended and twin jets of a clear liquid were shot across the four foot gap between herself and the doorway. The venom splashed onto the first guys face, wiping a gloating smirk from his lips instantly. His gun clattered to the floor, firing off a single shot into the wall across from Andrea and Amber, and he brought his hands to his face and dropped to his knees. The two behind him screamed as well, watching as their friends forehead right cheek and right eye shifted from soft and peachy to rough and gray. "Mutant B@*$#%!" He raised his gun, squeezing the trigger a few times, but hit nothing as the venom soaked man knocked into him and sent his bullets off in random directions.
Andrea's eyes turned to Amber, she was dumb struck as to what she should do, and her legs were shaking too much for her to move. The two gunmen hiding by the stairs heard the gun shots and exchanged glances, they raised their own weapons and waited for the cops to come charging into sight. Above them though, rainwater had started to pool in the ceiling. Many years of collection had left the floor above soaked through and through, and after the last few rains a good sized pocket of water had built up under the floor. The ceiling crackled, water dripping at first slowly, then faster as spackel and paint flaked off. A few drips landed on one of the men and caught his attention, and just as he looked up the pocket of water broke though the ceiling and drenched the both of them in putrid, stagnant rain water.
