The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Emma smiled at Zoe and nodded when she said she wasn't weird, but the way Zoe tilted her head was telling Emma that she was hiding something. Emma was running out of ways to get Zoe to crack, but figured that maybe it would take longer than just a short conversation and a pretty smile and demeanor to get her to open up the way Emma wanted her too.
"I guess I'll just have to figure out what I got from her another way", Emma thought to herself. She just had to figure out how she made it pass on to someone else. Or at least that's what she thought she did. Zoe then asked about getting the cheese and if she was still making the lasagna. Emma nodded her head in agreement and asked Zoe, "So where are you going for the cheese? Is there a better market around here for that or does this place have it to?"
Emma was thinking about letting herself get close to people. She could have friends right? Most people sucked, but there could be few people that she could be close to. Emma just didn't know if she could let herself be open like that to someone, as a friend or romantically. Maybe she could have before she acquired this skill of hers, but now she wasn't so sure. Who could she trust to tell or would it just be better to use it for herself and not let anyone know it was her. How would she handle trying to keep this double life she was trying to lead separated? Maybe Emma could wing it. But she really did wanna get back into kickboxing before she got too rusty.

Emma nodded and agreed, "We should totally get together soon. I just know my Mom would love to have you over for dinner. Though I will get that recipe to you very soon."
Emma was glad Zoe was opening up to her. "Wow, working at a zoo would be so cool. I love animals. There are times where I wish I could be an animal and just go run free or could talk with them. It would be so cool to know what they say to one another or just what they think about. I think about that kinda often.", Emma said excitedly and then paused. "Do you think I'm weird for thinking about things like that? Maybe I am a little weird." Emma kinda dropped her head a little, acting as if she were a little vulnerable. She hoped that Zoe would take that moment to share more and try to make Emma feel reassured. Emma kinda fidgeted with her hands to really try and sell it.
Emma looked up slowly upon being asked about her job. "Oh, my job? Nothing as cool as working with animals. I used to work in a real estate office before I moved here, but haven't found an office around here that's got an opening just yet. I'm still checking around though. If not, then maybe I'll find something that will utilize my Business and Marketing Degree. And if that doesn't work, then I'll try and go back to school. I'll find something. I did pretty much all the work and never got any credit for it at my old office. I worked the desk and scheduled open houses and appointments. I showed houses and filed paperwork. I even matched client preferences with house features. The people loved me and I sold lots of houses, but my boss always claimed that it was because of his name and effort."
Emma suddenly placed her hand over her mouth. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to rant on like that."

Emma laughed at Zoe's reaction upon being asked if she was professional cook. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to laugh, but your reaction was kind of funny. I guess it would be difficult to always cook for someone else the way they want and not how you'd like to. And I totally agree with it being expensive. I remember not too long ago when we were still trying to unpack and get things organized in the new apartment and we ate out for almost a week and it got kind of ridiculous."
Zoe turned and looked at her, like she was trying to study what kind of person she was. Emma smiled at her, frozen just a little on the inside. She wondered if Zoe was starting to regret putting some trust into Emma. She started to wonder if she had over stepped her boundaries when asking about contacting her later.
Zoe finally consented to exchanging numbers and Emma was relieved. She put set her bag of groceries down and pulled her phone out, getting Zoe's number and telling Zoe hers. It wasn't exactly what she was after, but it was a start. "So if you don't cook for a living, what kind of job do you do? And yes, totally. I'll have to give you my Mom's recipe for you to try. It's super simple. Or maybe you could come over and have some one night. Or I could come and hang out with you and I could bring a dish to help some with dinner. If any of that sounds like something you'd like to do anyway."
Emma started to also think about things she used to do in Washington before she had to leave spur of the moment, but people didn't need to know that she had somehow turned her cheating, no good father into a cat. She could leave that part out. Maybe there would be someone around that she could talk to about a gym to work out at. It had been ages since she had been in her kickboxing class and she needed to knock some rust off. She had still worked on her yoga while she and her Mom were traveling, but gyms were kinda hit and miss on the equipment she needed to train.
She could worry about that later though. She was still working on this relationship with Zoe and she needed to hold this conversation out for a little while and learn about who Zoe was (other than she's a nice lady who likes to cook).

Emma nodded her head as Zoe descibed to her the means of making her veggie lasagna. She definitely like the sound of the corn, carrots, and beans together, but maybe she could add in some spinach and mushrooms too to make up for the lack of meat. But she really wanted to keep the tomatoes for the sauce. This would surprise the crap out of her mom. She knew how to cook, but didn't do it often because her Mom did it most of the time.
Emma really enjoyed talking to Zoe about food so much that she almost hated taking advatage of her and whatever she had, but someone had to be the guinea pig. And she just happened to be the lucky one that made her hand tingle.
Now to find out a bit more about this new acquaintance of hers. "Yeah, I think food talk does that. Especially if you're someone who loves to cook or eat.", she said with a grin. "I am really enjoying your ideas on food dishes to make and talking with you. Do you cook for a living or is it just something you really love to do? And is there someway I can find you again so I can pick your brain about more food ideas? Ya know if I'm out and about in the city and needed to talk to you? If you don't mind me asking, that is. I just really haven't made a lot of friends yet with me being still kinda new around here."
Emma hoped she would take the bait and kinda open up to her. She needed just a bit more information to maybe find her again if she needed to or to maybe find out the things she's into. Emma also picked up a few carrots, some spinach, and also some mushrooms. She placed each item in her bag and placed her bag in the crook of her arm. It was starting to feel just a little heavy, but she knew that she really needed to stock up on some things for the fridge. She also knew that she would be stopping by somewhere else to get the cheeses and beans. But maybe she could tag along with Zoe to continue this conversation and learn more if she would also be going to get similar ingredients for her dish as well.
If she wasn't so hellbent on trying to work on her new skill and figuring it out, she would actually like to get to know Zoe. She was being nice to her when most people probably would not have given her the time of day or gave her a weird look as if to say, Why are you talking to me? But Emma knew that she needed to keep her distance from people and actually letting herself open up to someone until she knew what was going on with this skill and how it would affect her or others and how to control it.

Emma continued to smile at the lady and got excited at the way the lady was describing the veggie lasagna. It really did sound good and something that her mom would like too.
When asked about what kinda foods her mom liked, Emma replied, "My mom loves lots of different veggies. She loves Italian foods especially. My Mom also makes a killer homemade tomato sauce. I've tried making it before, but its no where near as good as hers. But the way you decribed the veggie lasagna sounds delicious. I wouldn't have thought to use zucchini slices to replace the pasta. That's genius."
Emma grabbed a few zucchini and put them into the bag, but continued to talk to the lady. "So do you still put some meat in yours or is it completely all veggie? If you don't use meat, what kind of filling do you use between the zuchinni slices?", she asked.
Emma was quite happy with herself. She was figuring out how to work this thing she did out and it seemed like it had worked. Her hand wasn't tingling anymore. She just had to figure out what exactly she got from the lady. And she was picking up a great recipe to have for dinner with her Mom.
She had realized that she had completely forgotten to introduce herself and also get the lady's name. How was she to keep track of people and what she was getting from them if she couldn't remember names, what they did, and how to find them. That is, if she would even be able keep up with them. There was a good possibility that there might be lots of people in New York that made her hand tingle. But she had to try and figure it all out somehow.
"You must forgive me, but I realized I haven't introduced myself or anything. My name is Emma. It's nice to meet you. What's your name?", she asked pleasantly.

Emma noticed that as she was picking up a few onions and peppers, her left hand began to tingle and it seemed like a strong force of some kind was drawing her toward the lady next to her. She was the only one that started giving her hand that tingly feeling the whole while she had been at the market.
She remembered back to when she felt that feeling before when she used to show houses back in Washington. What did she do then to make her hand stop tingling then? She thought for a few seconds and remembered that she would touch them with her full hand for a few seconds and it would suddenly stop. Maybe she got something from them when she touched them, but what?
Emma quickly had to devise a way to touch this woman and figure out what she was getting from her. So Emma suddenly turned to the lady, placed her hand on her right shoulder blade and said to her, "Hey, I'm sorry to bother you like this, but could you help me for a moment? I want to cook something really special for my Mom with some of this fresh produce, but I have no idea what to cook and what I should grab. She's done so much for me and I wanna return the favor. I've just kinda been grabbing a few things here and there that looked good. I'm kinda new around here, but you look so friendly and like you know lots of good things to cook. So do you mind helping me out a bit?"
Emma's hand had stopped tingling by the time she finished asking the lady for her help. She looked the lady in the face with a nice smile and tried to be as sweet and charming as she could. She waited for the lady's reply.

Emma continued her walk to the market. She was jamming out to the music on her ipod and finishing the last bit of her coffee. She turned the corner and saw the market area that she was gonna check out for her groceries. She noticed to her benefit that there were a few markets all in the same general area offering lots of different fresh produce. She smiled at the thought of being able to pick lots of different options from each market.
She walked up to the first market and began to look at the produce they offered. She saw some fresh ears of corn still in the husks with brown tassles at the end and she saw some big bright red globe tomatoes sitting close by as well. She saw that the market offered a canvas shopping bag for cheap to hold all the produce you bought. She gladly took one and then picked up 2 ears of corn and 4 tomatoes. She knew those tomatoes would be great to use in her Mom's tomato sauce. She continued looking around, gazing at the apples and pears as well. She picked up a couple of each as well. She also grabbed a good bunch of green beans and a head of cabbage. These would make her Mom really happy.
She noticed her bag getting sorta full so she grabbed another couple canvas bags to use at the other markets once her first one got full. She continued to look at this first market still looking over the big selection. People were all around her grabbing their selections, picking the best looking candidates and leaving.
It seemed like such a normal day. And such a good day to work on figuring out what her tingly hand meant and why her dad turned into a cat. But could she replicate what she did? She waited for her hand to tingle as she continued to pick her groceries. "I guess we'll see what happens.", she thought, "If it even happens again. Maybe it was just a fluke."

Mutations
Mutation description: Mutant Sense—she can tell if someone within five feet of her is a mutant.
When she is near someone who is a mutant, her hand begins to tingle (depending on which side of her the mutant is closer to). As she gets closer to a mutant, a magnetic-like pull increases in strength to help her discern where they are.
Mutation Transfer— Emma can copy up to two mutations and temporarily bestow a mutation to someone else. She cannot use any stored mutations herself. She can only store two mutations at a time. Only one mutation can be bestowed to any one person and once a power is bestowed, Emma does not have a copy stored any more. She can bestow up to two mutations (as many as she can store.), but they must be different mutations. The same mutation cannot go to two people. She can copy and store any mutation.
To bestow a power, she must first ‘gain’ said mutation via full hand contact with a mutant, and the contact must last about five seconds. To bestow a power, she outstretches her hand towards a target within ten feet, and a black handprint appears on the person in the same place she acquired the power. She does not have to physically touch someone to bestow a mutation to them. The original mutant in no way loses their power. She only copies their power and stores them in one of her two hold slots. Mutants who are bestowed a power have their mutation inaccessible for the duration, (which is about four hours) or until he/she washes off the handprint left on them after being bestowed. Once she bestows to someone a mutation, that copy of the mutations disappears from her hold slot and that space become empty. This means that she cannot hold onto someone’s copied mutation. To access that mutation again, she must regain it by retouching the individual mutant with full hand contact again.
Strengths: Can tell if a nearby person is a mutant. Could give an advantage in confrontation. Causes chaos, which is fun. There isn’t a mutation that she can’t copy or store.
Weaknesses and Limitations: She has no idea what mutation someone has until she sees them use it, or bestows it on someone else. She has to ‘gain’ a mutation before bestowing it. She can only bestow one mutation on any given person at a time, and only two people can have bestowed powers at once. They must not be the same mutation. She can only bestow mutations to people within ten feet of her. Anyone outside that range is too far for her to bestow mutations to. And these bestowed mutations only last for about 4 hours and then dissipates. Also, if she doesn’t use her mutation after a period of a couple of weeks, then her body begins to “forget” the mutations she has gained. The only way for her to hold onto a mutation for as long as two weeks would be to not bestow it to someone. Bestowed people can also get rid of their bestowed mutations by washing the hand print that appears after being bestowed off of their body. Bestowed people must stay within 10 miles of her for the bestowed powers to stay with them for the four hour time limit. Otherwise, the bestowed power dissipates.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: She is pretty flexible from doing yoga daily. And she has gained decent speed, strength, and stamina from taking kickboxing.
Fighting Style: Kickboxing
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: She’s quick on her feet and mostly uses her kickboxing as a means of exercise and defense, if need be. So, she could use this to her advantage in a fight, but she isn’t very good at being able to fight from the ground. She mostly depends on her speed to get good punches and kicks in.
History Of Your Character
Emma was raised in a lower middle class family. Her parents argued a lot, but stayed together for her sake. She later learned that her father was a perpetual cheater. Her mother was always heartbroken about his affairs and that heartbreak transferred to her self-image and worth. As Emma got older, she became more and more upset at the hurt her father caused her mother. She became angry and that translated into her life at school. She would get into fights with known bullies and acted like she didn’t care when it came to classes. It wasn’t that she wasn’t smart or didn’t pay attention to what they were learning. She would read the texts and listen to what the teacher said. She just saw no point in doing the homework or group assignments. She didn’t like being around other people. No one cared about her and what her life was like. She didn’t deliberately do things to hurt people, unless you hurt her first. And if you were nice to her, then she returned the gesture in the same manner. When she graduated high school, she started taking classes at a local community college in business and marketing. She thought they may become useful somehow later on. One day on her way home from classes, she noticed that a local gym was offering kickboxing classes for a small fee. She stopped by and signed up for the beginner’s class. After their first class, Emma really enjoyed the workout and the disciplines they started to build. So she decided that she would continue taking their classes. After years and years of training and classes, she finished up taking the Intermediate classes. By that time, she had also managed to finish her degree in Business and Marketing as well. She had been staying at home with her parents to save on money while she was in college. She had hoped to find a job soon so that she could have enough money to get her own place and have her own life. And to be honest, she would have been happy to get away from her Dad. She found a job a few months after graduating from college. She worked as a receptionist for a big real estate agent in her town. She even got to have her hand at showing houses to clients and matching listings to client requirements when her boss was on vacation or out of the office in those days. She got really good at working her charm and finding ways to really help sell houses. She had noticed that sometimes when she was showing couples a house, her hand would start tingling. Then after a handshake, leading someone by their arm, or some type of full hand touch, it would suddenly stop. She didn’t think anything of it at the time other than it being a little weird and would go about the rest of her day. Her boss became very impressed with her, but wouldn’t accept her requests for a raise or promotion. She started to grow very tired of this, as she did most of the work and he wouldn’t give her credit where it was due. After three years of working for him, she’d had enough of his working conditions. She kept working for him, but was keeping her eyes out for another job to put in for. She had come home, after putting a few applications in town, to her mother sobbing and devastated from learning about another affair going with her father. Emma sat down with her Mom and convinced her to finally leave her dad. She told her mom that she didn’t need all the pain and hurt he was causing her. And that she had put up with it for far too long. As they were getting ready start packing things in the car, her Dad came home. He saw their bags and began to argue with Emma and her mother. He demanded that they were not going to leave and that he would drag her back to their house if she tried to leave him. He then tried to yank the bags from her Mom’s hands. Emma tried to stop him. He pushed her away as she did so. She got up and slugged him right in the face. He dropped to the floor, dropping the bags as well. Emma peered over him and started yelling at him about all the pain he had caused the family and how much he had hurt her Mom. She told him how much of an embarrassment it was to have him as her father. In exasperation, she threw her hands out and screamed “We’ve had enough of it! We’re leaving!” As she did so, the figure of her father suddenly began to shrink and transform until what was left in his place was that of a little orange tabby cat. Emma’s eyes grew and she quickly grabbed her Mom’s hand. She grabbed the couple bags from the floor and pulled her Mom out the door. They both jumped in the car and left. Her Mom asked her what happened. Emma told her she had no idea, but she didn’t wanna stick around to find out what was going to happen next. She and her mother then hopped from place to place for the next five years so her father wouldn’t find them, if he wasn’t still a cat like they left him. They never stayed in the same place for more than a few months at the time. Eventually they made it to New York and figured that if he hadn’t found them yet after five years, then maybe they could finally settle down here.

Emma had woken up early one Saturday morning before her Mom. She changed out of her tank top and boxers in to a random tee shirt from her closet and she grabbed a pair of jeans from a hamper. She walked into the kitchen of their two bedroom apartment where the cold from the tile floor licked the bottoms of her bare feet. She quickly got coffee started and then went back to finish getting ready. She went to the bathroom, turned her curling iron on waited a few minutes for it to get hot. She curled her hair into some nice waves and lightly misted her hair with hair spray. She heard the coffee maker finishing up and went to make her a to-go cup of coffee. She had planned on going to the market and finding some fresh veggies and groceries for her Mom. She wanted to let her Mom sleep in this morning and surprise her with some really good finds. Emma let her to-go cup sit on the counter to cool some while she finished getting ready. She walked to her bedroom and quickly got her socks and boots on. She looked in the mirror and smiled at herself, realizing she had also put on her favorite band shirt today. She walked into the entryway, grabbed her leather jacket off the coat hook and put it on. She wrote her mom a message on a post-it, “I’ve gone out to the market for you. Be back soon. I love you.” She placed it on the fridge and grabbed her coffee from the kitchen counter. She then walked out the door, making sure it was locked before walking down the stairs of the apartment building. She knew the good markets would be towards the other side of town so she pulled her ipod out of her jacket pocket, put her ear buds in, and turned her music on as she started out in that direction. She people watched a little as she was on her journey. She sipped on her coffee a little to keep warm, realizing how nippy it was today. Every now and then her hand would start to tingle and then dissipate as kept walking. She hadn’t felt that feeling in a while. She was kind of curious as to what it meant, but also scared at finding out what she really could do. “Maybe today would be a good day to really find that all out”, she thought. “Do I just turn people into cats or is there something more to this tingling?”, she pondered the thought as she continued to walk down the street toward the market.
