Personality: Linc can be rather outgoing, gaining energy from engaging his senses. He is quick to start a conversation, but its rare for him to keep one going. He enjoys helping others and out of his good will and upbringing. He is rather humble and is not one for flattery.
As a kid, he was the silent curious type, often spending hours exploring the life in his own backyard. He loves the company of animals and finds their company more reliable than humans. He bears no ill-will towards others and is easy to get along with, but he is slow to trust.
Linc knows how to read a room, but could care less to influence it. He knows what is aesthetically pleasing, and takes time in preparing his own outfits. His room is tidy, but his mind is always active.
As a result of his mutation, he tries his hardest to keep his emotions stable. He smiles a lot, but more so out of a polite habit than an expression of emotion. He has a great love for humanity and the beauty in others but rarely expresses it.
His greatest trait is his organization and compartmentalization skills. He hates disorder, and has an aversion to slobs. He is passionate but disconnected from his work at the same time. Linc is also extremely loyal, reliable and prompt. He favors honesty, integrity and transparency in others and seeks to provide that himself.
Hobbies/ Interests: Linc loves hiding in the maze of his mind, and his hobbies allow him time to contemplate and provide an avenue for self-regulation.
Linc takes frequent naps and hops at any moment to lucid dream. He has books upon books on dream signs and interpretations, and could talk forever about peoples dreams. He also does a lot of scrapbooking, cooking, and knitting, activities that allow him to create. He is also a huge baseball fan and loves to go hiking. His daytime job evolved out of his desire to keep his memories intact, as he is a photographer for a living.
Linc is also a huge fan of heavy-metal, violent video games and snuggling with animals. These keep him from stressing out too much.
Job or part time job and description: Linc has just started working at a photography studio that his photography professor recommended him to. He loves taking pictures of animals, city streets and mutant powers.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Linc fears getting his emotions out of hand, especially his negative emotions. He refuses to feel that fear, however, because it has a tendency of getting out of hand. He also fears crowds and public transportation systems.
Special talents: He is pretty good at reading and sensing nuances in emotion in others, independent of his mutation. This skill is also enhanced by his mutation.
Additionally, he is a quick learner and has many hobbies and abilities.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Lawful Neutral. Linc refuses to adhere to a strict morality, as it would affect his emotional stability. However, if there's one thing he strives toward, it's finding beauty in everything, even the negative.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Empathic Replication- Linc creates new personas with his emotions. Literally. Linc's mutation manifests itself in the creation of clones, which he calls Moti, (Motus, singular). Whenever he experiences a certain threshold of a particular emotion, he can use that emotional energy to create a Motus fueled by that specific emotion. Linc can only form one Motus per emotion.
Strengths:
- Identical Copy- His Moti are a perfect biological copy of Linc at the moment they are created. A Motus "buds" off from Linc's original body laterally. Think of a zipper that unzips from his head to his feet. Once a Motus forms, the Motus looks more like the original Linc, as the original's eye color turns a hollow grey. A Motus has its own free will, shares all of Linc's existant memories, creates its own memories, and has the same overall personality, except with the heightened emotional state. Linc's Moti can only duplicate his outfits, not the contents of his pockets. He doesn't know why. Sometimes in replication, certain articles of clothing may even fail to replicate.
A Motus is created once Linc decides to act on that emotion. In other words, Moti require Linc to meet an emotional threshold and an emotionally charged action to springboard their existence. Linc can feel angry, but a Motus cannot not form until the moment Linc decides to consciously act out of anger.
If Linc waits for the emotion to subside, then he must wait for another strong emotion to
The Moti function at the same capacity as Linc, a perfect replica of physical and cognitive states. If Linc is sick, so will the motus be, etc. There is no limit to the distance a motus can be separated from Linc.
- Moti Multiplicity- Linc has the potential of making a wide range of Moti. The top twelve most frequent Moti (alphabetical order): Admiration, Anticipation, Awkwardness, Anger, Disgust, Happiness, Fear, Pride, Pleasure, Sadness, Shame, Surprise. There is no limit to how many he can make at a time, other than his ability to feel the emotions required to generate Moti in the first place.
- Moti Integration- The Moti do not share a hive mind, however, once a Motus is reabsorbed, their memories and experiences integrate with Linc's.
Weaknesses and Limitations:- Detachment- When a Motus splits from Linc, it leaves his original body incredibly disabled when trying to experience that emotion. Moti are still able to experience Linc’s full range of emotion, however, they will be gravely polarized toward the emotion that led to their creation.
- Single Origin- Moti can only split from Linc's original body. Moti cannot bud off of other Moti.
- No Connection- Linc has no way of keeping track of where his moti are or know what they are doing. He has to find other means to do so.
- Emotion Addicts- In order to remain active, a Motus will seek experiences that fuel their primary emotion like an addict seeks a drug. Thus, Moti behaviour can be rather impulsive.
- Reabsorption- Linc has to physically touch a Motus to reabsorb it and fully regain control over that emotion again. He cannot reabsorb a Motus without its consent or unless it loses consciousness.
A Motus loses consciousness naturally in two ways; either Linc's original body experiences a surge in that specific emotion again OR the emotion is stripped away from the Motus, by whatever means. They can also be forcefully made unconscious.
If the Motus is injured in any way, Linc reabsorbs whatever pain the Motus experiences. If emotional or mental, then the pain directly translates. If physical, Linc does not absorb the physical wounds but experiences the pain as if the wound did happen to him.
Duration: Linc's energy level at the creation of his Moti is the maximum energy his Moti can exhibit at any given time. If Linc is fully rested when he creates a Moti, so will the Moti be fully rested. Moti cannot revitalize themselves any more than the state at which they were created. This initial energy level is the maximum time a motus can maintain consciousness. Once rendered unconscious, a motus must rest for at least one hour before regaining the ability to move again IF it has not been reabsorbed by Linc. The longer a Motus lives, it becomes less and less able to stay conscious.
Once fully depleted of emotional energy, the Motus essentially exists as a corpse until it is reabsorbed by Linc or deteriorates. On its own, a Motus turns to dust after 24 hours after its initial creation.
Cooldown- Just as Moti are unable to revitalize any more than their initial energy reserves after creation, Linc is also unable to naturally restore his energy if Moti exist simultaneously. They all experience a slow energy decay. Thus, Linc must reabsorb all Moti in order for his metabolism to return to normal.
Reabsorption of Moti includes an integration of all their sense stimuli, thus Linc experiences an overload of information every time. Linc can absorb one Motus at a time and takes a minute for him to regain his senses/move again after doing so.
After reabsorbing a Motus, it takes an hour for him to create another Motus of the emotion.
If a Motus dies (is unable to be reabsorbed at the end of 24 hours from creation), Linc loses the courage to use the emotion (and create the Motus) that died for the next 24 hours. Linc is furthermore unable to reintegrate a dead Motus’ memories with his.
Nullification- If a Moti were to have their x-gene nullified (i.e. walking near an adapted), it would immediately be knocked unconscious and unable to act. If Linc were to have his x-gene nullified, he would regain the ability to experience all of his emotions again. This would knock all Moti unconscious and prevent Linc from reabsorbing their bodies until he walked out of nullification range. This would also prevent him from forming new Moti.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Linc is of average strength. He runs at the speed of a fit athlete. He also has solid reflexes as a result of his training.
Fighting Style: Can swing a baseball bat but rarely starts fights. He is also a blue-belt in Kung Fu, meaning he is trained in advance strikes and self-defensive combinations, but has little practice sparring.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: He has little combat practice outside of his dojo, but he wouldn't be afraid to use his skills if need be.
History Of Your Character
Linc was born on his grandparents farm, which his father, Carter, inherited from his grandfather. His family was the typical church-going, corn-farming, sport-loving Ohio family. Linc was born at a healthy weight and has a brother that is older by a year. His mom, Anna, was an expert marksman and top-rate chef. His dad was a huge fan of baseball in addition to being a hardworking farmer.
Linc didn't live a normal life, as his parents lived in the same house, but occasionally had lovers come and visit. His mom would have a boyfriend here and there, and his dad a girlfriend, despite being married. Their parents agreed that it was alright as long as it didn't disrupt the working of the farm.
Linc went to a public school for all of his childhood, where he learned how to write a five-paragraph essay, how to dissect small animals, and how to get girls' attentions. Linc would hangout with his older brother Abraham and their friends, finding ways to have fun in town. Everyone in his hometown knew each other on a first name basis. Linc and his brother eventually earned the nickname, the Barrow Brothers, as they used to wheel each other into town on a wheelbarrow and on their way to and from school. Linc did fairly ok in his academics. He wasn't the brightest and wasn't the worst. His brother, however, flourished. Abe had dreams of going to a university in New York, and Ivy League was always on the tip of his tongue, ever since they stumbled into a guy from Brown University that spoke like a character in a novel during one of their trips to town when Linc was in fifth grade. Linc didn't care about what he'd do after highschool, as long as he was close to his brother. His brother was Linc's superhero, and he was his sidekick. The two were inseparable.
Having multiple lovers in the same house led to many dramatic and tense days in the McKeller family. Once Abe reached puberty, his mutation developed alongside his deep voice and facial hair. Abe's mutation kicked in during a fight that his parents had in the living room. Linc and Abe were playing checkers, and drowning out the shouting in the background. But when their dad barged into the room and grabbed a broom, Abe shot up and ran to his dad, who was cursing and yelling at him to move out of the way. Abe ran up and hugged him, and his dad dropped the broom and calmed down in an instant. Then, Abe picked up the broom himself and stormed outside the house, running to the stump where they chopped logs and started hacking at it with the broom. The broom was reduced to a pile of splinters.
Abe had the ability to absorb others' emotions, and it augmented his abilities when he did so. When Abe calmed down, he told Linc to swear never to talk about it.
Over time, Abe learned to hone his ability and used it to decrease the tension in their household whenever it arose. He relied on Linc to watch him and make sure he didn't do anything too stupid. Linc taught himself how to immobilize and knock out his brother, whenever he absorbed too much emotional energy, but made sure only to do so in the room they shared so his parents would not find out. One time Abe went too far, and absorbed so much emotional energy from his mom that she entered into a month long depression. His dad finally figured out that Abe was a mutant and took him out of school, for fear of him attracting too much attention. Abe was in his sophomore year of highschool. Linc was a freshman.
This ruined his brother, and Abe went into a chronic depression that struck fear into Linc. The night his dad took Abe out of school, he got into a heated argument with his dad. Linc watched his brother absorb his dad's anger and knock his dad into the kitchen table, rendering him unconscious. As Linc stormed out of the house, fear gripped Linc and he ran after his brother. Before Abe could leave, Linc threw himself at him. Abe had absorbed too much anger and Linc had difficulty holding onto to him in order to subdue him. His heart lurched with fear at what his brother might do if he left the house and somehow made it into town.
Linc felt the fear throb against his chest until he felt what was like a giant pin, stab into his back. All his fear seeped out of him, and an extra pair of arms wrapped around Abe's neck putting his brother into a choke hold. Linc blinked at a face that was a perfect reflection of his, with the exception of the clone's quivering lip and terrified panting. Linc lunged at Abe's feet and brought him crashing to the ground, while his clone struggled with keeping Abe pinned down. In a fit of rage, Abe grabbed tightly to the clone and grabbed onto its neck. The clone's face lost all color as it lost oxygen, and it finally went limp. Linc could sense the emotional energy of the clone seep into Abe, as he absorbed its emotional energy. Abe's grip then slackened and he shot up off he ground, his hands on his head, and his mouth spouting words of fear and terror. Linc smiled wearily, realizing that somehow Abe's anger had been replaced by fear, subduing his rage. As Abe cradled the clone's limp body in his arms, Linc reached out and held the clone's hand. A gushing sensation rushed through his limbs as the clone was reabsorbed. The feeling of Abe's hands around his neck remained, and Linc fell to the ground, gasping for air. The image of his brother sobbing hysterically as he hovered over his slowly fading consciousness was the last image he registered on his mind of that night. That was the night before his thirteenth birthday.
After that night, Linc watched as his brother lost his humanity and sanity, piece by piece. Their parents had taken a few days to wake up from their emotion-drained comas, and Abe swore not to use his mutant abilities on again. Linc agreed to not talk about that night to their parents, and Abe pleaded to Linc not to talk about having mutant powers ever. Linc promised. Then Abe asked him to do better in school, since he would never have a chance like he would. Linc saw the pain in his brothers eyes whenever he talked about his broken dream of attending an Ivy league school, and on behalf of his brother, he took on that dream himself. Abe helped him out by teaching him how to study, by writing his essays, and by absorbing his emotions whenever they got out of hand, despite his promise not to use his abilities again. Linc hadn't yet figured out how he created his clone, but he deduced as much that it was his emotions that had something to do with it. Abe took up smoking, drinking and other coping mechanisms to keep himself sane as he carried the emotional burden of them both. Linc hated having to watch his brother cope with his emotions and work so hard on his behalf, but he could never express his emotions for fear of his parents finding out.
The two continued their high school years with Abe bolstering Linc's grades, whilst being stuck at home working the farm, and Linc living a life of academic success at school. Linc refused to interact with his classmates, however, to keep his emotions in check. He grew rather lonely. He also feared his classmates figuring out that he was a phony, and that he was only the star of his class because his smart brother was helping him. His brother never allowed him to feel this fear, too, often leaving Linc at the border of depression. The Barrow Brothers avoiding going to town, with the exception of Abe who went only to steal his fill of tobacco. Coming home to his brother grew more taxing for Linc as the days continued. He always smelled, was always in a bitter mood, and he sponged whatever emotion Linc felt in order to keep the secret.
Abe continued to feed off Linc's emotions and Linc continued to live the hollow life of a fake academic genius. It was around this time that Linc took on the hobbies of photography, cooking and Buddhist meditation. He meditated so that during the hours he wasn't with Abe, he could keep his emotional state to a minimum. Abe continued to keep an emotional monopoly on his parents, breaking his earlier promise, and fell deeper into his addictions. All Linc could do was watch. This life continued until Abe disappeared a week before Linc's graduation.
He simply left. Linc had a strong intuition that he was headed to New York, but the sudden disappearance of his brother threw him into disarray. The emotions that Abe siphoned off him, now had no outlet to escape to. Linc had been accepted to Columbia University and planned on getting his undergraduate in journalism, all under the direction of his brother, but the night before his graduation, Linc's sadness, fear, and anger at his brother's betrayal got the best of him.
The morning of his graduation, Linc was found in his room covered with bumps and bruises, a broken rib and a couple lost teeth. He spent time on his own, and decided that there was no reason to pursue his higher education anymore. His parents grew so mad, but were more disheartened at the loss of Abe to be harsh at Linc. The emotions that had been siphoned from them also returned, and they all had forgotten how to control them.
Linc spent the whole summer after graduation, working at the farm, trying to find reasons to move to New York. His parents sent parties out to search for Abe, to no avail, so Linc was going to do so himself. His photography teacher heard of him declining Columbia and asked if he wanted to work for the photography studio he was going to start in New York. With his parents hesistant approval, Linc found an apartment in New York, New York and settled in by himself.
He spent the last three years focusing first on his job as a professional photographer, keeping an eye out for word about his brother as he took on various jobs and created connections with different personnel. He also worked on his Buddhist meditation and enrolled in Kung Fu classes. Now his goals are to find higher avenues to work as a photographer, to get more information on his brother and to seek guidance on how to hone his mutant abilities.

The smell of stale donuts and day old coffee wafted out of the staff lounge.
Who on earth bought donuts? Linc peeked into the peach-walled room, with black and white photographs taped onto the ceiling tiles and opened cans of Mountain Dew scattered on the round table in the middle of the room. Beside the cans and crinkled, used napkins was a huge box of Dunkin Donuts. It was cracked open, just enough so Linc could see the powdered donuts on the right side and the frosted donuts on the left. From his vantage point of the staff-lounge door he could see that the box was full. Untouched. Pristine. A trap.
Did Jianey put that there? Another trick of hers? It obviously wasn't Kendall. He hates sugar. And Peter is vegan so he'd probably find a made-up animal product that went into making the sprinkles. It could have been Peter though. It would not be strange of him to buy something just to shame us about it. But a whole box?
Linc stared long and hard at the box, taking a step toward it before recoiling back. He turned off the lights and put his hand in his pockets. He was going to wait this out. All that sugar was bad for him anyway. He stood there and folded his arms before sighing a deep, dangerously irritated sigh. Linc wiped his crusted eyes before he was interrupted by a cough.
"Oh, Linc! You're here early. What's up? Saw the lights and thought some idiot kept them on overnight." A short blonde man with oval-shaped glasses and a deep, bearded chin walked past Linc with his Adidas back pack, wiping a napkin across his nose. He coughed a deep phlegmy cough that Linc tried to ignore.
"They were off. Someone may be playing a sick joke, since the coffee maker was used late last night. It stinks like the rear end of a coffee bull, so someone has to have stayed late. That ain't nothin unusual. But on the table is a load o'litter and a full box o'doughnuts. Untouched."
"Aww, Linc. You shouldn't have." As soon as doughnuts were mentioned, the blond's blue eyes sparkled like an ocean. He dropped his phone on the table before running to the lounge.
"I didn't, Irwin. Swear, I didn't."
Irwin went up to the doughnut box with his grubby hands and reached in, without a napkin or any decency. He stuffed a strawberry sprinkled donut into his mouth, whole and entire, and licked his lips. Linc closed his eyes and started to breath in and out slowly, letting all hints of disgust flow in and out of his body.
Linc opened his eyes to Irwin's frightened face, as he began to choke. Crumbs flew out of his nose. The doughnut splattered onto a Mountain Dew can, a sloppy mush of saliva, dough and mucus. Linc walked forward and covered his face with his palm. A plus side of keeping his emotions in check was knowing how to control animal impulses. However, in contrast, it almost made him barf to watch others act like animals.
"They're freakin' dry!" Irwin cleaned off his tongue with his fingers, and spat the rest of the doughnut into the trashcan. "Who the heck would sell that crap?"
"You're a pig." Linc blinked at Irwin and spun around, leaving the sounds of Irwin spitting profanities and gargling tap water. Then followed a sound of heavy coughing that turned into hacking. Linc turned his head back around to watch Irwin fall to his side, his hands folded over his stomach and the water in the sink still running.
"Irwin. Irwin? Get up. Irwin. You have no sense of humor, so stop it." Linc called out to the man. As soon as Linc got to his side, he noticed Irwin's face turning a shade of orange. That was not normal.
Poisoned, stale doughnuts? Now, that was a new.
