The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The design looked really cool. It was original, and creative, and it combined symbols that were entirely his own. Gawain was impressed. This Ravi guy might not have been very friendly, but he was very good at his job. And friendliness took second place to talent when he was about to pay the dude for engraving the design on his skin for eternity.
>>”Alright, then. Ready to go?”
"Yup." Gawain sat back down, bracing himself in a comfortable position to make sure he would not wince or wiggle. The closest think he had ever done was sitting still while being stitched up; he had some experience. He wanted the tattoo on the shoulder blade that was not marked by the shattering glass - shaped scars.
>>”So what made you want to get a tattoo?
"Well... my look is not exactly constant" Gawain smirked as Ravi started working "I wanted something that was distinct... something that was personal. Especially now that there are body doubles walking around for everyone from the other side of the portal..."
Kalos would not stop petting the shirt. She was completely in awe. Maya chuckled at the site; seeing someone appreciate small everyday things with such wonder was kind of amazing. She had a suspicion that some people would turn Kalos into a lucrative business of inspirational posters...
>>"Seeeequins. I love them. Are sequins alive?"
"No" Maya laughed, shaking her head "They are just... um, tiny pieces of plastic, I guess, sewn onto the shirt. You want one?" she asked, nodding at the shirt. It seemed comfortable enough, and they had it in Kalos' strange size, give or take."
Regina ex machina. The queen showed up in a royal (and royally pissed) fashion to save the day, and Mirror was glad to see the remaining mutants drop and be hauled away. Catching a glimpse of the woman trapped in the ice just in time she went in to bring her out too; she did not put up a fight now that all her allies had been arrested. She did not deserve to die in the ice. The queen could have killed the rebels too, but she was wiser than that. Maya sighed as she finally relaxed, and her wounds started hurting.
>>”Your Majesty. Thenk ye sae much fur steppin’ in. We—”
>>”Extend no thanks, Lodestone, please. If my kingdom were in order, this would not have happened.”
"I'll say it anyway. Thanks." Maya smirked, walking to join Becca as the queen turned to address the scared children.
>>”I am sorry, my children. Atlantis has failed you. I am still failing you. But we will continue to work toward a home where you may all be safe and happy. Until that day comes, go with my blessing and seek refuge with the X-Men. I have the utmost confidence they will watch over you in America as they have watched over you here today.”
Well, it looked like they were taking a bunch of Atlantean kids home today after all. Maya looke at them. Everyone at the Mansion would have their hands full, but for a good cause. And from a quick head count, she could tell they would all fit into the Jet, which was a bonus. Most of them seemed eager to go. Maya was glad that instead of running away from a mob, they got a hopeful goodbye from their queen. She was the symbol of a better future to come.
>>”Ye know, naethin’s sexier than a heroine. If ye wanted tae make a move oan a Queen, noo micht be a guid time.”
"Yeah, because hitting on the queen is totally appropriate right about now" Maya muttered back, giving her teammate a smirk. "Talking about heroines... how the hell did you throw stuff... nevermind. I'll ask later. Let's get all the kids in the Jet, shall we?... Where's Praxi?"
>>"well, yeah, but there is always a first. I don't think I'll fail it, I'll just make like... A B or something when it should be an A."
"Tragic." Maya smirked. She knew that B was equal to failing to some people; she had never been one of those people. She was not dumb, but she had coasted by comfortably, passing classes just so that she did not have to do homework anymore. But art? She could fail art, and live happily...
>>"I can't afford a camera that would take really good photos. But I think I'd be better at that. But, that's not what Mr. Holloway is wanting us to do, so I dunno."
"I'm sure he'll have some photo assignments later on. You'll make up for lost points, him?" Maya suggested, before eating another bite of cake. Heck, she was feeling herself get fatter by the minute.
>>"But... Look at the icing design on those cakes and cookies? I consider that art! I'm great at it there!"
"Maybe you should do an icing portrait of me" Maya grinned "If Nate doesn't like it, he can still eat the cake..."
>>"My pleasure, truly. You are more than welcome to call me Gwen or Gwendolyn."
Oh, good. Gwen was gonna be easier to remember.
Gawain wondered how often people spotted her. She was walking around in an outfit that was historical at best. Not that it wasn't elegant, but it probably invited staring even for people who would not have recognized her by face. Or by eye color, which was truly memorable.
>>"Quite. My exit and run away from the train is apparently on this 'ViewTube.' It's... Interesting. I am a bit surprised the government has not gotten to me or something."
"I am too." Gawain nodded. It had to be the rip, still being an all hands on deck situation. Otherwise, people would have been all over this. Leave it to a dimensional portal to trump time travel on the news cycle... If she just got some modern clothes, she would have been fully invisible.
>>"Yes. I need to update my wardrobe to this timelines customs... Tighter dresses, blue jeans, shirts. I need to let go of these, quite literally, old things."
Gawain chuckled at the pun.
"Well, if you want... I can help you with that. I mean, I'm sure your friend does too, and I don't want to intrude or anything. But, once you got some modern clothes... contemporary I mean, modern's a relative term... I mean, once you have that, people will at least bug you less. And if you wanna wear the old ones, you can always get a job doing what I thought you were doing... Which would be awesome, by the way, learning about history from someone who wasss.... I'mma shut up now."
Maya looked a little sheepishly at the two girls as the transformation completed. Her clothes were a little loose, and she was obviously not wearing a bra, with which the two girls obviously had no problem. Go figure.
>>"Well, that's a trick you should have pulled out earlier sweetie. I'm sure we'd both have been more amenable to you like this."
"Oh, so girls are okay but guys are not?" Maya arched an eyebrow. It was a weak argument, given that this was a women's dressing room... but she was a little loopy from the shifting still.
>>"You need some water or something after that? Can't imagine it's the most comfortable experience."
"Yeah." Maya nodded. A drink sounded nice. "I usually do this while asleep, but... I guess it's later than I thought."
Someone else showed up with a bottle. Apparently it was time to drink something stronger than water? Maya was not sure it was a wise idea, but she didn't really have a clear out either.
The man threw a fireball, and Maya dodged. The projectile got dangerously close to the icemancer, who yelled something none too kind. If the fire melted the puddle, they would be one person down, permanently... the fire guy yelled back, then switched tactics, trying to charge Maya to burn her up close. Maya did not like that one bit. Mostly because the flames were so blinding up close that she had no view of Becca, or the building. She felt exposed. Someone yelled, and something crashed in the background, which was probably Becca fighting, although it lacked the usual metal clang. The guy managed to singe her arm, but Maya shifted out of the way and then aimed a kick at him, something that made him stagger back for long seconds. Enough for Maya to face her next opponent...
... and then everyone paused. Smoke came out of nowhere. Was that another demigod? Someone's mutation that was supposed to...?
Maya glanced around to see if Becca was still on her feet. If the smoke was hostile they'd need to face it together...
>>"Oh... I apologize, my name is Gwendolyn Theodosia White."
"Nice to meet you, Miss White" Gawain nodded with a smile. She definitely had a 19th century name. He'd probably think of her as Gwen.
>>"Do you know Charl- I mean, Charlie Sinclair? That's my friend who's helping me. I don't know if you might know her?"
Gawain shook his head. Big city. Even mutants did not all know each other; or the name did not ring a bell, in any case. Still, it was good that someone was helping her. It would have been dreadful for someone her age to have to get along on her own...
>>"Yes, it is not quite the safest place but I imagine most places are not. Sometimes governments make good decisions, sometimes they do not. Usually they do not."
"Yeah tell me about it" Gawain muttered with a sigh "You had a lot to catch up on... and being on the news is probably not easy either. Do people recognize you?... I mean, because of the dress..." he added, pointing out her 19th century outfit.
It was true that Celeste could probably use self defense training, just like all other mutant kids at the school. Maya was willing to sign her up for some classes, too. She could take extra, if she wanted to try out for the team, or take up martial arts as an elective. But she was in too deep the arts class to switch. She would just have to make the best of it.
>>"Well, I think it'd be easier for me to get a hang of... I actually signed up for a training class which so far has been going at least a little better than art."
"Oh come on, no one's ever failed art" Maya grinned "Not under Nate, anyway. You'll do your best and you'll be fine. Or maybe you can try some other art form, if sketching's not your strength. Like, photography? Collage?..."
Things were happening faster now. The ice mutant and the malleable lady were out of commission, and Becca had taken care of the earthbender... but there were more than those came from, and they all wanted in on the fight. Someone had to be a telekinetic, because random crap started to fly at Maya's face; garbage, bricks, pieces of firewood, whatever was movable in the area. Maya ducked and dodged, as she caught glimpses of Becca fighting two other people. One? Two. Crap. Teleporter.
"Watch ou..."
There was a cry from a child, and Maya's insides froze. And then Praxi was suddenly in the fight, and Maya managed to catch a flying brick out of the air. The telekinetic was distracted now by the glob of slime that was Praxi, creating some kind of an energy field and lifting her off the ground. Maya saw red. Lots of red.
"Alright, that's it, palytime. Is. Over." she growled, as she threw the brick, with frightening accuracy, at the telekinetic's head. Back to sender. The woman was too distracted by trying to crush a child, so it was only fair that she caught the projectile straight on the forehead, and was immediately out cold. Praxi plopped down on the ground.
"Back in the house, now!" Maya snapped at her, before she turned to her next opponent. The guy had flames engulfing his hands, but at this point, she was too enraged to care. "BRING IT, DOUCHEBAG!"
Okay, so they had shoes and a pretty yet questionably useful dress. That was not going to make a wardrobe for Kalos, as much as she loved them. Maya looked around, wondering where to go next, but ultimately left the decision up to the coral girl.
>>"Let's go see the headless children. I think I see short clothes last time."
"Oookay" the mirrorwalker smirked, and they walked back to the 'headless children' together. Kalos moved around, examining colors and designs with critical eyes. Maya had to give it to her, she knew what she wanted and what she did not want. She was not going to accept outfits solely based on functionality.
And then she found the rainbow shirt.
>>"Whaaaaat is thiiiis?"
Maya laughed at the reaction. Kalos seemed to have found the Holy Grail. She poked at the color-changing sequins in awe.
"Um... they are called sequins?" she ventured, still chuckling "Do you like them?"
As much as Mirror had no talent for art whatsoever, he loved watching other people work on it. There was something mesmerizing about artwork appearing out of thin air, and turning into something beautiful right in front of his eyes. And there was also something about the look on artists, the intense concentration and the movements, that made the process quite the spectacle. Gawain watched and sat in silence as Ravi worked on the design. Whether he disliked mutants or not, he was definitely in his element when sketching.
>>”How’s this?”
Gawain's eyes lit up as he saw the design.
"Yes. That. I want that." he grinned. It was original, and pretty, and would look great in color. "They were not kidding when they said you were great..."
Celeste kept working on the portrait, but she was apparently not getting much enjoyment out of it. Maya sneaked a bite of cake while she was looking at the sketch instead of her. She chewed quickly.
>>"I think I'd rather be doing trainings in the DR instead of art, honestly. I don't know how to fight fight but I'd rather learn that than make a pretty picture. I'd probably be at least slightly better at punching someone."
"Well... martial arts are arts too" Maya flashed a grin at Celeste "But they are not exactly easier to learn..."
Sure, Maya could teach just about anyone how to punch properly, and how to defend themselves from an unarmed attacker. But anything beyond that... was a lot of practice and hard work, and at some levels, even talent. In some ways easier than art, but harder in others...
She seemed to find the idea of actor working for museums, pretending to be what she actually was, rather amusing. He didn't blame her. It was a fun job to do, but no one could do it as perfectly as her, since she was the real thing. Maybe she'd consider it as a career option?...
>>"Well, in this time, that is probably the only thing I would be qualified to do. So much has changed since the 1860's... The television box, radio, planes, this internet, automobiles, even bicycles have engines on them. It is amazing what man has done - and also what horrible things it has done."
"Yeah..." Gawain sighed, thinking over all the pages of the history book since the 19th century. "It has been quite a crazy century..."
It had to be tough, finding out about all that after jumping ahead in time. Gawain was sure that if he did the same, he'd be reeling too. Humanity was not in the business of getting better exponentially... And that was all a culture shock issue. She must have had practical ones too. Where did she live?...
>>"I do, thankfully. I don't know where I would be at without her. Probably lost, hiding, or being experimented on by the governments of the day, maybe?"
"Good that there is someone helping you." Gawain nodded with a smile "I'm a mutant, so the government experiment thing... totally valid. Plus New York, as amazing a place as it is... is not exactly the safest.."
Dumb. These people were dumb, hateful, and vindictive, and on top of all of that, they genuinely believed that they were better than the gorgons... and yet they went out of their way to punish those who they believed were less fortunate. It was disgusting all around, and Maya was really, really glad she would get to punch some of them in the face.
Not that it was going well so far. The woman could apparently manipulate the malleability of her own body; her punches and kicks were hard, but Maya only found soft spots on her, and did not do any damage at all. And then suddenly, the ground got slippery under them. Maya ducked a punch, slipped, and fell flat.
>>”Oh no, Mirror. Ice everywhere. Whatever sha ye dae?”
Maya grinned. Okay, so maybe the fall was a blessing in disguise. It would leave a bruise, but it also gave her an advantage. Maya reached up, grabbed the woman by the ankle, and pulled her into the reflection. Before she had time to react, Maya popped out of the ice surface a few steps away, and tripped another demigod.
"Okay here's the deal. The ice goes away, the person in the ice goes away. Otherwise, she'll be out in a day or so. I'd keep that ice puddle fresh if I were you." Maya told the ice elemental, who was clearly surprised "Any questions? No? Good. Who's next?"
