The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The shifter nodded as Ranger confirmed what he was thinking. Torture was more of his father’s thing. Carrick even when he was with them back in Ireland the parts he chose to remember, he remembered he didn’t have the stomach for it. At least mentally.
Carrick walked into the room behind Ranger and leaned against the wall just out of sight from the prisoner. Okay, this guy was pretty big. Whale would have been more adpt. At least the hands were enough to choke one. The shifter had an ear for language, none of the words Ranger said was a swear word so he doubted it was an insult. It was enough however to make Volkov less eager to speak to him. The shifter growled behind Ranger and stalked into view then just out of it walking around the table. ”Smell like shit.” the shifter said flashing his teeth. His canines were sharper than the average human.
”That’s the thing. Prisions they make everyone smell worse. You, I could smell ya before we got into the room. Imagine yer family smells something similar though. Ya know I can pick up a scent a mile away? Might take a little time but with the info we got on yer family... it wouldn’t be hard ta track any of them down.”
Carrick shuddered slightly his hands covering in fur as his fingers started turn to elongate stopping before they were fully shifted. His adreniline was pumping. ‘Kill’ he didn’t listen to the voice. The man before him could have crushed his beast form with ease. Not to mention Ranger would have put him down before beasty could have done anything.
There was a faint recognition in Volkov’s eyes as he looked from the claws to Carrick and smirked. “You think I should fear you?” Carrick flashed his teeth again, ”Ever hear of Eric O’conner? Beast of Belfast?” the man’s fingers flexed under the restraints as he pulled them slightly away from the table.
”He’s the reason there hasn’t been any Russians in Ireland in some time right? Me? Well, happened to be his son and let me tell ya, I learned more than I wanted from him. Like what a man like you can do in here while yer family starts ta go missing.” he growled his pupils turning to slits.
”And I wear them!” the shifter groaned suddenly feeling like he was getting teamed up on. ”and they are! Just don’t have the pockets required.” his tail flicked onto the floor in the path of the roomba.
”They were a moving in gift.” lied Carrick rolling his eyes and stifling another yawn. That was when the roomba attacked rolling over his tail. With a small howl the shifter jumped up into the air flapped his wings once and then landed grabbing onto his tail.
He was up now, also wondering why both of them thought he’d eat the steaks raw. ”They’re from Frosty the iceman.” the freezer had a few more bags and if all worked out he’d intercept the next delivery. While he couldn’t see the look on Sam’s face when he didn’t get his shipment of meats, eating them was just as enjoyable.
”Meant fer cooking.” he flashed a bird at the roomba and walked into the kitchen holding his tail still feigning that it was injured.
Carrick watched the pineapple vanish behind Praxi’s dress and the shifter squinted. ”Did you get taller?” before walking past her into the kitchen.
”Morning beautiful.” he going in for a kiss on the cheek for the princess. ”Steak n’ eggs... is that not a thing in Atlantis, poor girls.” he asked going through the cupboards for a frying pan. His tail flicked behind him as he went through the lower cabinets.
Carrick liked cooking, it reminded him when he was younger and when he used to do it with his mother that was years ago though and since then he had learned to fend for himself. Either by stealing the ingredients or buying as little as possible.
So when Praxi mentioned a free meal all he had to do was cook he was all to willing to take orders as she read the recipe. When he found out who else he was making the food for he decided to make something else, just for a laugh.
Sam’s expensive steaks in the form of breakfast burritos. Not just any breakfast burrito, Jorge’s breakfast burritos. It wasn’t exact but it reminded the shifter of all the free meals he used to get when he raided the watermancers fridge.
”Allegedly,” Carrick corrected as he walked into the room behind Praxi. ”Allegedly they were his. If he wanted them he wouldn’t have left them in the school before it was destroyed.” the shifter wanted to see the look on his face when he figured it out.
”man! Birdcat Man!” he said in a mocking tone sticking his tongue out when Praxi wasn’t looking.
”And I brought my appetite!” the shifter shouted as he placed a bunch of tinfoil wrapped steak breakfast burritos on a table already biting into one. His tail flicked behind him as he leaned over everyone's shoulder as they prepped their meals. ”Great idea frosty! Love me a free meal!”
His purring continued, even if the princess wasn’t standing near him. His tail flicked in her direction as she walked away and back into the kitchen. The warmth of the sun was too good to get up. Even if it sounded like everyone was up now. Thanks Roomba. Meaning he was now as well.
The shifter smirked at the comment, ”It was never a secret.” he yawned stretching his arms but still laying in the direct beam of the sunlight. He liked clothes but with his mutations it was impossible to keep any article of clothing in one piece. ”too constricting.”
The sound of the former faculty member was getting closer.
”I thawed some steaks if any of you want breakfast.” he said yawning again. His wings opened further as he spread out trying to get the most sunlight.
It was early. Dawn brought the cities morning and the warmth Carrick had been waiting for since he crawled in through balcony doors an hour before. It was Saturday morning. Meaning no interning just recovering something he needed to do considering another fight he had gotten into thanks to Zek.
He’d see what was left of his guitar later the sun was coming up. His bronzed wings glowed in the morning light along with his pasty back. The shirt he had worn the night before was lost in a shift, or by Zek sometimes it was hard to tell. Most of their escapades traversed the city which was why the shifter usually kept spares. Blame the clones another thing he had to deal with.
The shifter was out before the sun started to warm him. Purring loudly he slept while his tail flicked on occasion behind him.
In the kitchen the mansion’s Roomba blared to life and started to clean up the dirt Carrick brought in on his bare feet. Revealing everything had done before falling asleep including thawing a bag of steaks that read “Sam’s. Don’t touch!”
The portal opened before them and like so many times Carrick trusted that Zek was sending them right were they needed to be. This time in a pool. The water extinguished his wing and he bobbed to the top of the water in zek world. “Dropped me phone!” he dove back down as all the water vanished. The stadium returned to normal.
After a wardrobe change and a quick dry off he checked his wing and decided that it would not be too difficult to fly with it. “I’m thinking a bat.” the shifter said opening his locker removing the ash baseball bat he had used a few times to fix problems. A tooth was still lodged into it. He looked to the sledgehammer and shook his head knowing that with mom and the X-men around they’d frown upon that much violence.
“They set me on fire.” he said now in dry clothes waiting for Zek to open the portal and get on his back before flying out. The shifter was pissed, in fact now he was doing everything in his power not to shift. None of his forms liked being set on fire, they took it personally.
It wasn’t hand to hand combat training. That was all that mattered. He was tired of going home aching from S.U.P.E.R. training. FInally he was in the field... in the one place he joined S.U.P.E.R. to avoid. Prison. The place always had negative connotations for him, his brother, uncles and father all spent time in and out of the place what’s more it was often small and crowded which was the real reason he feared the place.
Carrick’s tail flicked as a metal detecting wand went over him and the first pocket set off the device. Looking down he pulled a flask from it, one he had sentimental value with. Followed by a some keys. Another second past and then the all the other pockets started to set the device off. ”Ya know... best I just empty the pockets.” Ranger said no weapons.
A deck of cards, some loaded dice, a gemstone small and flawed diamond some smoke pellets and a handful of flash paper and a lighter. He looked to the guards and then put the diamond back into his pocket. ”I’ll hold on ta this, but be back fer the rest.” he looked to the flask then to the guards. ”I know how much is in this.” before he trailed off behind Ranger.
”Not a fan of Russians?” he asked as the guard started to explain the metal wing of the prison they were about to enter. Was this where he would end up if SUPER decided he wasn’t worth it? Part of him shifted his eyes to Ranger then the guards. Was this all an elaborate set up to get him into prison? Might be easier than drugging him.
Taking a breath he did his best to calm himself and the screaming in the back of his mind. Something other than the prison was scaring his beast side. The flight or fight mentality was screaming to throw a fist and book it.
>>> “ALON. Aluminum, oxynitride. Like I said, this was the metal wing. That’s transparent aluminum. Three inches thick. Half that will stop a .50 BMG. This way.”
”A big gun!” Carrick said to Ranger looking for the nod of approval to show he was learning. Despite hating guns and how loud they were. Unfortunately he still hadn’t gotten his. Not that he wanted it.
”I’ve seen this before, can’t actually hit him right?” Carrick said to Ranger nodding his head, ”I’ll play worse cop! Hopefully this guy isn’t a total bore.” his tail flicked behind him as he jumped once then twice to get into character.
The shifter wasn’t really worried about where he would end up sleeping. If anything he could just shift and the Gryphon would make nest. Those weren’t the worst places to wake up. Minus the bones. Reaching over to the bar top he grabbed another pair of shot glasses and raised them echoing the cheers.
Carrick gave Kimberly a small nod even though her back was turned. Part of him was glad she wasn’t a giant anymore. The building wouldn’t have housed her. ”Or the best? Only lost a building right?” he asked out loud trying not his recent homelessness harsh the party.
”Wait... what?” Carrick finished his drink looked from the Praxi to the Princess confused by her question. Had he moved in with Amythest? His guitars were there, a change of clothes and a toothbrush. He had. His face turned red.
Clearing his throat and trying to play it off, ”Nah, just messing with ya. Course I’m coming home. Home is anywhere you are, darlin’” he bumped his hip into the princess a little minimizing the space between them.
The Irishman chuckled, ”Whoa....” his smirk was from ear to ear as trying not to give the princess too hard of a time for her offer. Considering how far she had come Carrick was impressed. ”Looks like Praxi’s moving in with us.” he said wondering what the rent situation was like.
Looking back to Praxi, ”It’s settled! Streets are no place fer a warrior. You’ll be staying with us! I’m sure there will be plenty of room, look how tiny she is! Carrick said raising his hand from where his friend used to stand to where she was now.
”A fleet?” the shifter set his shot glass down and he rolled his eyes to Praxi. ”Yer making me sound like a ride service.” the words failed to describe how it felt seeing a bunch of himself flying about. The shifter only felt that once before, the first time he went into Zek world but those clones of himself always seemed... off.
”Parade. It was a Parade of Carrick’s” he corrected Praxi then smiled back to the princess when she said she could use more of him. He wasn’t sure why she would have needed more of him but his tail perked up behind him. ”Awww. Knew ya liked me.”
”Pfffttt admirable. Can’t describe a warrior that way!” Carrick disagreed to the word again not that she wasn’t but it didn’t catch the attention the way it should have, ”Fierce! She was fierce!” he smirked to Praxi and winked, ”She took on that giant beasty all by herself, part of her training though init? She’s an X-person after all!”
”Shame ‘bout the mansion though. Might be sleeping on a lot of couches.” Carrick looked over to Zek who was handing out snacks. He could set up his hammock again in Zek world that worked well before.
”Ladies, if Zeky offers ya a snack say no...” he looked back to the princess, ”Especially you.” he didn’t elaborate. He was sure the princess knew enough about the man from all of his stories. The man rarely cleaned out his snack pockets.
“Carrick!” a doppelgänger shook another Carrick’s hand as they were now mostly clothed. It took some time to sort out who left there clothes where but the fight was over and mom said she was buying drinks to celebrate. It was enough for any Carrick to put their differences aside.
All except for two.
“She’s my girlfriend I want ta call her! the other Carrick rolled his eyes and pulled the phone out of reach. “Shut yer face the phones ringing!” Carrick with the phone kicked his mirror image and spoke, “Hey love, sooo were fine.... but.... the mansion is gone. Saved the day naturally... get off me!” “Hey darling, were ya worried bout me?” the other Carrick said loudly climbing on Carrick’s back. “fancy a drink? Say I earned it!” “We! Now give me the phone I want ta talk to her!”
---
It took some time but when he got into the place of business mismatched colored eyes lit up at the neon signs and all the stages. Clearly it was the first time Carrick ever remembered being in a strip club but the stages were enough to decide that this was a magical place.
>>> "To the responsible use of magic!"
The shifter raised the shot glass and cheered throwing a scraped up arm around the princess before knocking one back. There were a few cuts and bruises visible. He'd heal though, he was immortal after all. It was worse before the shift back into his human skin. “And free drinks! Thanks mom!”
“Shoulda seen it! There were dozens of me. It was... majestic.” he said recounting to the princess.

The shifter chuckled at the word ‘soar’ when he started out if was far from soaring. Getting thrown off a cliff into the cold ocean waters was great motivation. At least that was when he learned how to use backdrafts and eventually flying. Nothing like proper motivation. ‘thanks Da’ he thought to himself while maintaining a smile.
The smile faltered slightly as Cesca recounted why she was here. To make her own way, which was why Carrick determined most people came to the city. It was easy to start over here. ”’suppose we can! My rates aren’t cheap though.”
A tail flicked and he took a sip of his drink trying not to let the feelings Cesca had wash over him. Despite playing aloof, Carrick at times was quite sympathetic. ”Lot easier ta start over here.” Carrick agreeing winked and smiled. ”Didn’t know that Cesca but I’m enjoying this ones company.”
”Ta new beginnings!” he raised his glass and then looked to Jonas.
”What about you? Sothern accent....” he adopted the thick accent he associated with Ranger, a supervisor in S.U.P.E.R. who enjoyed ‘training’ him mercilessly with what Carrick called affectionally ‘beatings’
”I don’t think I hear a Texas accent. At least not one I’m ‘amiliar with.” he talked slower trying to get the words out with the twang of the lone star state. At least he thought it was. Ranger often found it funny.
“I’m Carrick O’Conner and I am live streaming the fight! Mystics approached and are attacking me home! @!@>!ing Bigots. Hope y’all like the content and subscribe... Be great inspiration fer a song!” the shifter said holding the phone in front of him as he shifted it up towards his partner in crime.
“Say hi Zek!” he then turned it to a few people who were trailing him in the air. “These chuckle @#$#s think they can compete with me in the air. Kids... don’t try this at home!” he’d splice some sound in later but turned his flight pattern into a dive. It was enough warning for Zek, the man had been flying with him for a few years now. He was busy however dropping a car or something else heavy as they flew overhead.
Mismatched colored eyes focused on a plant grabbing some people before he was distracted by an explosion next to one of his wings. “Taking fire.” he said calmly as he maneuvered away from the people chasing him in the air. The phone remained in front of him facing backwards.
Flashes of light exploded near his wings as he started to make his way for the trees. It was his home, he had flown this path thousands of times they had not to mention there was a plant chick grabbing everyone in sight. Before he could make cover for the trees his wing was clipped by an explosion. It was small but enough to set a wing on fire, “@!#@*er! Going down! Zekky! Need a portal!”
“Man! Bird Man!” Carrick chirped into one ear while being on the other line with the princess. About to comment on the woman’s behind he thought better of it. She was here helping the mansion, his home and he didn’t really want to get an earful from a any of the parties listening on the other end.
>>>Charge their stronghold!!!
It was announcement. One that told everyone that they were about to attack Carrick’s mismatched colored eyes shifted the grounds for any commotion. Turning his head he looked to the street leading up to the entrance. There were people.
“Nah, nothing yet love-” he said talking to the princess only to stop mid sentence, “the it was when a giant whale appeared out of thin air. “nix that, they brought a whale!” he did not elaborate, “Call ya back!” he didn’t know what it was like sitting on the other end of the line as a battle was starting to rage around him but would apologize later for the abrupt hang up.
A flash of light nearby and Carrick’s flight response was stopped short when Shin appeared riding.... what the hell was that? “What is that?” he asked aloud having never played pokemon. “Was gonna do it before ya asked me!” quipped the shifter as he was never a fan of taking orders. Even if it was not one. Watching the glinting shardmancer fly away Carrick looked back to the woods where a few bright flashes were going off followed by the percussions of the grenades.
“He did say hunt!” Carrick smirked and leaned forward making a b-line for the woods seeing as a whale was a little out of his weight class.
”Hmmm?” Carrick looked curious at Jonas who had a question for him. The shifter smirked when the question was posed and he looked back to his wings and feigned surprise. ”Oh yeah, I do have wings!” he poked at them for a moment and then fixed one of the feathers that needed adjusting so his wings looked the way they were supposed to, Majestic.
”be a **** life if that was all they could do for being so grand.” One of his wings opened and he flexed it a bit to show off more, ”Nah, I can fly. Pretty well too.” Carrick said hoping this wasn't going to turn into them asking him to do flight maneuvers. Sure they were going to get a show when he left but he hated performing without the proper stage. One that he set up, which he planned on doing anyways.
”It is.” he agreed. ”Especially in the city, wouldn’t be able to get around otherwise. Cars...” the shifter shuddered and he tried not to think about how uncomfortable it was being cramped in a car with wings like his.
Sitting across from Jonas, Carrick sat down, movement from his wings and tail happened on instinct. ”Thanks fer noticing!” his tail swayed behind him, ”Performer by nature, took me years ta figure out how to use it the way I do now. Same with the wings, didn’t really have anyone ta show me how ta use ‘em. Had ta figure it all out on the fly.”
He took a sip of his drink. Not sure if he should comment on Cesca’s remark, but because he was Carrick he chose to comment, ”I travel, book me a weekend and I’m sure I can liven it up.”
Carrick flew overhead of the mansion higher than the snow reached which was nice, he didn’t want to be bundled up. Not that he was going to willingly fight just that when he shifted he didn't’ want to have to replace all the clothing. They were going to attack the one place the shifter called home. It was where he grew up, where he met the princess and where he hid his treasures.
A small, flawed diamond sat in his pocket, one he fumbled with regularly as he kept eyes on the grounds. “Nah, nothing yet love. Still don’t know why we’re all here. Can always rebuild ya know? Hold on, frosty is chirping in me other ear.”
A trail of slime stood out as he spotted his friend moving along the grounds. The glowing green was the next thing he noticed. “All clear up here frosty, tell big green ta dim the lights.” before talking into his other call, “Just glad yer not here. Hopefully it won’t be as bad as they say it will be.” the shifter said ignoring the voice in the back of his mind that screamed for a fight. “Cut the snacks zeeky, yer getting too heavy.”
