The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

This was boring… Carrick’s mismatched color eyes shifted around for something more interesting that the paperwork before him. Pulling a pencil from his pocket he started to twirl it in one hand between some fingers. It didn’t matter that it was broken cracked in half from being in his pocket the second it broke apart from the twirling Carrick just put it back together.
”Seem a bit too excited about that, boyo.” Carrick said looking at his paper again and writing his name. That was at least a start. Probably more than he did in the past few weeks other than a few exams that he came in to do so he wasn’t failing the class completely. Last thing he needed was his mother or father getting involved.
A bird was starting to be drawn in the corner as he continued to talk to Alex, ”Take it yer one of them braininacs that only enjoy themselves if they are stuck in a shitehole such as this?” Carrick said not looking up his feathers on his wings ruffled as he shrugged his shoulders.
His name was Alex and he was still smiling when he saw Carrick meaning either his appearance and reputation didn’t bother him or the kid was too new to know much about him. Either way Carrick saw this as a fresh start. The lips moved to cover his teeth as his tail went from flicking to more of a sway. He looked down at the hand that was offered and while he normally didn’t shake strangers hands unless it was to lift a watch Carrick reluctantly shook the guys hand but he pulled his hand away a quick second after he shook it.
”Sure…” Carrick said still finding it hard it was nice to meet anyone in a forced setting such as this. Looking down at the paperwork at his station Carrick glanced it over quickly then looked around from station to station hoping he’d catch a glimpse of Liz, someone he knew moved away. ”New are ya?” Carrick’s fingers started to tap on the table before him.
Everyone was pared up and he half expected to have the same thing happen before when Liz first walked into the same class as him but he looked behind him and no one was there. It seemed the class had already started. Carrick’s multi-colored cat like eyes roamed the classroom till he spotted someone writing on some paper by himself. The guy almost looked happy doing that kind of busy work. A low rumble in the pit of his throat voiced his irritation with a low growl. Two students closest him jumped from surprised before they realized he was there then went back to their work.
His tail flicked as he slowly walked towards the kid. He was probably younger than Carrick but he was taller and a bit skinnier than Carrick. The shifter’s wings made his shoulders and legs a bulkier than most kids. ”Bloody bajanxed this class is. Can’t leave no matter how hard I try.” Carrick said rolling his eyes and looking at the white board that had biology written on it. He hadn’t tried since Liz left and when she was here he didn’t even like trying then. It was just easier to focus on all the crap the professor spat out.
”Must be the new bloke they put me with.” Carrick said his tail flicking behind him in irritation. More likely he was the only one left seeing as most of the other kids liked avoiding him now. Carrick flashed the kid his fang like teeth then slapped his hand on the table top. ”Name’s Carrick.” he said not offering him a hand or much of a smile. It was clear Carrick didn’t want to be here.
”This is stupid!” Carrick moaned as he walked down the hall to his science class one he didn’t attend in a while. He had been there a few times this semester however it was more to just pass an exam then sneak off after a bathroom break. His grades have all been just barely passing meaning he was doing something right. His parents were just happy he was attending classes again, it was better than him missing out on an entire semester after Liz left.
Classes, especially science class, reminded him of her. Which was the reason he liked to avoid them. He didn’t like thinking about her or the fact that she left the school after an incident during the riots that caused him to maul a bunch of people. Carrick still avoided that topic as well. Caused him to get moved to his own room, a much smaller one that he hated even more than living with Clyde. Cramped spaces weren’t really for him.
He held a piece of paper that said he got a new lab partner one that was supposed to help him learn more than he already had. His old lab partner ended up getting a new one because Carrick didn’t show to do any of the lab work. This kid was new supposedly or at least newer. Which meant he wasn’t really aware of Carrick or if he was it was probably stories how he could turn into a monster and eat people. That was partially true but the winged thief didn’t appreciate that kind of bad publicity. Not that he cared though, because everyone was stupid here. Everyone but Serena and Eve really, and maybe Kait.
His tail flicked behind him with irritation as he walked into the lab looking for the kid that was alone to be his new lab partner. The only reason he was here was to tell his teacher, parents and Eve he was attempting to get better.

Carrick chirped in response again as he flapped his wings a few times slowing down so she could actually enjoy some of the flight. Lifting his head up he tried to let her know he’d go easier on her for now. If anyone besides Carrick actually studied the way birds fly when they keep there head up they don’t plan on doing anything crazy. Carrick liked to think they learned that from him.
In all of his excitement however he forgot to mentally keep count of how long he was shifted and that familiar nagging sensation told him to start heading back. They have been airborne for some time. Luckily for him and Eve both they were already en route back to the mansion it’s just he wasn’t in a hurry that was until his tail started flailing behind him. Carrick’s neck twitched in response to his tail. If she didn’t like the way he was flying before he doubted she would appreciated falling from where they were due to him shifting mid flight. Something he had never successfully pulled off.
A small series of concerned squawks was all the warning he gave her before his fur under Eve and the feathers on his neck started to bubble and contract in a continuous motion. A continuous and rather painful motion. The question now was could he make it back?
Nothing really stood out; nothing seemed to change here at the mansion anymore occasionally you’d get a hallway or a classroom blown up. Usually due to a mutant losing control or on a rare occasion when a winged mutant starts a fire by mixing chemicals you normally shouldn’t mix (after learning from a certain blonde). With a yawn and looking downwards to see if any of the classes managed to make it outside.
A few kids or maybe a few teenagers were walking the grounds aimlessly; they were bigger than ants only because Carrick wanted to be seen. The winged shifter enjoyed the attention, if people weren’t marveling at his beautiful wings then he wasn’t showing them off enough. A blue eye and a green eye shifted from one person to another as he lowered himself to the ground a bit. Wondering if any of the people he spotted were one or two of the few ‘friends’ he had left at the mansion.
‘Nope’ Carrick thought as he flew over the pool admiring his distant reflection. That was when he noticed someone in the pool and underwater. Now Carrick could swim and he was pretty good at it even if he was a third cat, however he’d much rather stick to flying.
That being said Carrick noticed that the figure at the bottom of the pool had been down there for a little longer than someone should have been. With a dive Carrick folded his wings and brought his arms forward to break the water as he entered it. With his eyes open Carrick saw the figure and let out a muffled yell revealing his elongated fangs and his initial shock.
The sun poked out behind the tree that blocked his window causing him to roll over, sighing as he did and wiping the sleep from his eyes he slowly sat up. Bedhead was an understatement his hair was elevated on one side and he could feel it, like it was weighing down on side of his head. Running his fingers lazily through it pushing some of it down. Looking over at the clock and realizing it was close to noon he groaned slightly and thought about what he should do.
Class had started and while he should go his mismatched colored eyes shifted over towards the window where the tree was. It was a beautiful day outside and while he could practically hear Liz yelling at him and lecturing him about how school was important she wasn’t here anymore. In fact he tried to forget about her, she left without saying much. Rightly so, thought Carrick as he walked towards the door pulling the first shirt he found on the way to the window. Maybe it wasn’t clean but he slipped his wings through the slits all the same. Not like anyone could smell him where he was going.
The window was already open and so he jumped through the portal into another world forsaking school yet again. School would be there tomorrow the weather however was fickle and often changed. Some days were better for flying than others. Today was one of those better days.
Fully extending his when he jumped he caught the air and flapped his wings lifting him up higher and higher. Turning away from the directions of the class rooms he headed to the backyard where a pool and the fields were.
Carrick’s long ears twitched and rotated slightly to hear Eve speak and when the shifter comprehended what she had said Carrick’s shoulders shrugged causing his wings to lift again and then down. He didn’t know lion’s couldn’t purr. All he knew was he could and seeing as his tail looked like similar to a lion’s he just assumed when he shifted he became part lion.
Slightly embarrassed he was doing it in the first place, he didn’t do it often but when he realized it wasn’t appreciated he made sure to stop. A small chirp and Carrick reared back and then did a flip then a barrel roll reversing direction back towards the mansion. He knew the flip would scare her and he did it fast enough so even if she weren’t holding on she wouldn’t have a chance to fall.
Still gliding however the rooftops became closer and closer along with the people, the cars and pretty much every other insignificant thing in the city.
”Ya can say you didn’t but you don’t have any proof you didn’t do ya?” Carrick said with a sly smirk one that has been on his face most of the day even if Clyde had been annoying him. ”Listen here whistleblower, you tell on me I’ll deny it. You don’t have any proof and proof is everything isn’t it?” he put the emphasis on the insult whistleblower hoping that Clyde would get the point. Carrick doubted it though; kid wasn’t as smart as he pretended to be.
”Look, if ya gonna be a lil baby about everything maybe you should find a different room to go to eh?” Carrick asked his foot kicking another ball of paper towards the other bed that wasn’t Carrick’s. It rolled and stopped in the middle of the floor and Carrick smirked, ”I don’t need no Debbie downer here messing up my room. Sides, I already ‘ave a roommate.” Carrick pointed to the tree that was right at the window. ”Don’t think he’d appreciate having a scam artist sleep in his bed.” Carrick said knowing full well that Kai wouldn’t be coming back.
Everyone was stupid that was what the winged mutant had decided as he kicked a can further from the garbage can. He was bored to put simply and no one at the mansion was fun anymore. He didn’t have a roommate, (Kai was the one he was upset about leaving, not the nasally tiny pipsqueak) his girlfriend, or rather ex-girlfriend had stopped talking to him after the riot incident where he apparently mauled a few rioters when he lost control of his shift. From what he could tell his shifts had become less sporadic and more controlled, at least he thought so.
Occasionally he’d wake up to a room with garbage and week old pizza decorating the walls and floor. That was a little more normal than the claw marks and chewed up pillows. Kids had a tendency to ignore him now and take him even less seriously than before. He was pretty sure he flunked out of school at this point unless it was summer break. Liz normally kept track of stuff like that. He didn’t like to bother with it. The echoes of a tin can being kicked again was silenced as he came to a busy intersection where pedestrians and cars went by oblivious to anyone or anything around them.
Pickpocketing was something he had grown slightly tired of but occasionally there was that one person who may notice and start a chase. Chases were entertaining. He’d run till he was bored with it then fly off dropping the wallet with the I.D.’s and the family photos and the credit cards. Only keeping the money or the occasional subway gift card. Those were easy to get away with using, anything else was always too much work and he knew some kids who had gotten into some pretty big trouble for using stolen cards.
By now he was pretty well known with the police, Jorge had kept him out of trouble when he could and the staff at the mansion were pretty well at giving him detention or signing him up for community services. Only he was getting older and it was harder and harder for them to say ‘this is the last time’.
Carrick had a feeling he was going to get kicked out soon but that didn’t matter. They were all stupid. ”Cafflers and Eejits.” muttered the winged shifter as he lifted a wallet from a middle age man when he stopped at a light. His golden wing helped him cover his hand movement, helping him go unnoticed. Well as unnoticed as a kid with wings, a tail and pointed ears could go.
The beast looked up through a blurred image after the hit and he collapsed face first. Cat like slits in his eyes shifted to the ball behind her and his claws reached out trying to grab it however he didn’t have the strength to continue. He wanted his mate, he needed to protect what was his but he couldn’t and the last thought of the beast before his claw dropped was ‘flee not alpha’.
Once the beast closed his eyes his body started to shift and ripple till a naked Carrick was laying on the concrete bound by the snares that once held the best. His body was bruised and battered from the fight his shifted form had gotten into, but that wasn’t all that remained. Slight alterations to his physical make-up, his teeth still remained slightly pointed, at least more so than normal humans and his ears were more angled almost elf like.
Carrick tail was almost stepped on, he let out a small snarl then grabbed his tail as it whipped to his hands and he held it close, ”Ohi! Whachit!” if she actually stepped on it he had a feeling them sneaking around probably wouldn’t have happened after he woke the entire second floor with one of his roars. Carrick let the questions hang for a second before he responded.
Once they got to the second floor Carrick apologized for his little outburst. ”Sorry… hurts like hell when someone steps on it.” Carrick said making sure to keep his tail more elevated when they were walking on the stairs. ”But, I’m not sure taking it apart will work. You’ll see when we get up there. I didn’t see any screws when I looked at it but then again I never go up there to just look at it. Usually I’m running up there.” Carrick said shrugging. Alright so he never bothered to look to see if a screwdriver worked he was more focused on the ink that sprayed.
”Lock is for turning off the alarm and turning it back on. A few of the teachers, carry around a set of keys for the school. One of the keys works on da alarm meaning you can come and go when ya please and won’t have to worry bout no alarm.” Carrick said shrugging, ”If yer any good ya should be able to turn it off with the picks right?” Carrick asked his tail twitching as he was about the head to the third floor stairs when he spotted some older kids in the hallway kissing. Carrick stopped short on the second floor staircase and then held a finger to his lips then silently stepped to the third floor stars and proceeded.
Carrick tried his best not to think about the kissing it only made him think about Liz.
”Blackmail?” Carrick asked laughing, ”Maybe you aren’t such a boyscout then!” Carrick said clapping his hands. ”Maybe they don’t but I’m sure they don’t want me to go anywhere else.” Carrick mused walking over to his bed and hopping on it kicking his feet back as he looked at Clyde staring him down.
”How do you think I managed to stay here for so long? I pay to stay here and get an education.” lied Carrick his parents paid for him to go here but Clyde didn’t need to know that. Clyde also didn’t need to know that Carrick was skipping most of his classes due to them being so boring. He was much happier flying.
”Sides, you really want to try blackmailing me?” Carrick asked knowing full well this would only piss off Clyde more, ”You took the money as well. So if I’m a terrible human being what does that make you?” Carrick smirked his tail twitching with annoyance.
Carrick was already moving toward the stairs and nodding his head, ”Why I suggested it wasn’t it?” Carrick shrugged his shoulders, ”There is a lock and key thing attached to the alarm system so I figured if there is a lock to pick you might as well try it.” Carrick flashed her another grin as he nodded again, ”Not sure how much help I’ll be red not the best at picking locks though if you want to demonstrate reckon I might be able to pick it up. I had a few people try to show me a few years ago but now that I actually have a reason to learn.” Carrick started to laugh and quietly clapped his hands together.
”What maintenance closets ya talking bout?” Carrick asked pointing down the hallway towards the teacher’s hallway, ”The one by the profs offices, and the one down this hallway or we talking about one of the two on the higher floors?” Carrick asked pointing to the general direction of each one as he said them. He had explored a few rooms out of boredom the maintenance closets were relatively easy to remember where they were seeing as he hid in them a few times when he was running from the bigger kids or the hall monitors.
”Whatcha thinking? Duck tape over the ink spout? I tried it,” Carrick said smirking mischievously, ”Sprays enough ta the point of leaking everywhere instead of spray. Might be best to tap a rag to it though.” Carrick said thinking his tail twitching behind him as if he was chasing a mouse. ”Somebody always comes to reset it any time it goes off too.” Carrick said, ”Tried to tape the door open and that didn’t last long.”
”Steroids? You mean there is someone here who thinks that’s a good idea. Probably a jock…” Carrick said nodding his head as he was running through a list of faces he had run into and almost got shoved into a locker from. ” Yeah, now that I think of it there are a few guys that get that roid rage.” or just bad tempers. Carrick didn’t know which and didn’t really care. People he didn’t like could do whatever they wanted. As long as it didn’t bother him none.
”Naw not the offices, though I do here some teachers have a few things they keep in their desks that they don’t want in the general public. But no.” Carrick shook his head, ”Ain’t what I mean. I was thinking the roof access. It is unlocked but there is an alarm that goes off whenever it is pushed. Meaning…” Carrick looked to his clothes to see if there were any left over from the last time he pushed the door open. Staring at his flannel he scrunched his nose upset there weren’t any signs of the bluish black in.
”Stuff stains yer skin and yer clothes.” Carrick nodded, ”But if I could figure out how to turn it off it be a breeze to get in and out without anyone finding out I’m sneaking off. They locked my bedroom window too but.” Carrick shrugged ”I might have ‘sleep flown’ through it.” Carrick said throwing out some air quotes.
