The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Aye, used to joke I was the holy child born again.” he said with a little grin, ”Mother used to joke I’d get the same fate it I kept up with the blasphemin.” his tail flicked behind him. While watching the Princess in the snow study the gift then him.
”Doesn’t really feel like a birthday ya know?” he shrugged, ”Only thing I usually did was call me mother. Kinda hard to do that and I don’t really want to get creative with the ways to call her.” he said yawning again.
Sitting upright and pulling himself through the window and leaving it open he hoped out of it and landed on the snow next to the princess in a loud crunch. ”Sides, got no one to celebrate with.” he yawned and stretched again this time getting his wings involved, knowing the Princess’s fascination with them.
He hated hearing those words. They were ones of comfort but hearing the words sorry never helped the shifter much as a kid and now they just made things awkward for him because his first response would always be. ‘Not yer fault.’ He knew that would not help in this situation so he only offered a little forced smirk. ”One of the bad parts of getting older I suppose.” he knew his mom wouldn’t be around forever she always had health issues ever since he could remember.
”Didn’t need to.” he said with a shrug, ”Almost didn’t get ya one till I realized yer one of my only friends ‘ere. That and after the other night I was feeling like ya earned it.” the memory of the other night and being so close to the Princess now started another round of purrs from his chest.
”Don’t worry, didn’t break the bank or nothing I might have had most of it in me possession already so.” he smirked and turned over letting out a yawn in the sunlight. ”Cake was more of a tradition with me mother than the holiday. Today’s also me birthday.” he said lazily.
”Not an airline, ya want snacks bring ‘em yerself.” he said trying to not laugh at the comment. ”How about ya just keep yer balls to yerself?” he smirked.
”No animals here mate, least they didn’t have any when I was here. All the ‘animals’ are just mutants like meself. They can shift of have physical mutations. Princess’s call ‘em Gorgons.” he said absent mindedly as he recognized an older face behind the register while her eyes looked a little glazed over it was still her.
”Heya Mabel, been a few years eh?” the old woman with pointed ears perked up a little when she saw the shifter. Her accent was close to Carrick’s she was from Ireland as well. Cork but still Ireland. “As I live and breathe. Carrick me dear boy how you doing? Ya haven’t aged in a day.” The older woman looked back to the other woman behind her said something then kicked the door open.
“I best be the first one ya said anything to. Come ‘ere boy. Give old Mabel a hug. Been shy of a decade?” she frowned and as she brushed past Zek and picked Carrick up in a bear hug. While the woman was older she was as strong as a bear. She lifted Carrick with ease. “Nothing but skin and bones. Have ya been eating?” she looked over to Zek, “Has he been eating?” she looked back to Carrick who she was squeezing still, “Light as a feather! Whatever ya want on the house fer me favorite boy. How have ya been? Yer mother how is she?” she asked slowly setting Carrick down.
”I’m good Mabel, I’ve been eating. Mother’s been better. She’s dead. Last year.” he frowned slightly and then felt another tight squeeze as the elderly woman picked him up in another hug. “Poor dear.” ”Whatever we want?” Carrick asked with a mischievous grin.
“Within reason, I got a business to run and I remember how ya could eat pounds of the Elephant ears. Care for some Cinnamon bums?” she asked with a smile before heading back into the food stand. “Fresh out of the fryer!”
Carrick walked away from the cart with an armful of food. Fried and non and looked to Zek, ”hard to believe I wasn’t the size of a house with her fried foods. Six?” he asked nodding his head, ”Got some time then.” his tail thrashed behind him as he started to bite into one of the elephant ears he was holding.
”Staying away from the fire breather, last time I seen him he almost set me wings on fire.”
Kronia sounded like a good time. He thought of the Halloween parties he had been to and how much fun they were. Servants got free reign. It felt weird when she when she mentioned she had servants but then again. She was a Princess after all.
He stopped purring and looked upwards at the sky, ”Only when I think bout her. Usually we’d spend the day decorating a small tree we found. She’d spend the day baking me a cake and then we exchange gifts. Wasn’t much never was. Didn’t have a lot… but ya never realize how much ya miss someone when ya can’t call ‘em.” he said his voice broke slightly before he cleared his throat.
”Oh… before I forget.” he said snapping his fingers and then pulling himself up reaching into his bag. ”Got ya something, nothing special but I wanted ta get ya something fer Christmas.” he grabbed the small package from his bag and then resumed his position hanging upside down.
”Hope ya like it.” he said offering up the brown construction paper wrapped gift. It was a small frame he found, two tickets from their first ‘date’ fanned out in it. Like he was it wasn’t much but he figured she should open something on her first Christmas. ”Don’t have to open it now.” he said with a little upside down shrug.
He smirked a little at her response, ”That was the Spanish version. Probably like two hundred versions to it.” he said lazily. The sun was hitting his back while he laid out the window. It felt nice the purring continued despite his blue disposition. The princess was around.
”Ah, that would explain it.” he said noticing her pulling the cloak tighter around her. ”Pulling off the look though.” he offered before averting his gaze from her at the question. ”Nothing wrong with the blues.” he said trying to remember what he was playing before being startled.
”Christmas is a family holiday, depends on the family?” he asked giving a grin before rolling himself on the sill till he managed to be looking at the princess from upside down. ”Normally I’d phone home. Almost forgot there’s no one to answer. Least no one I want to talk to anyways.” he explained.
”Take it ya don’t have this holiday back home? Anything similar?” he asked knowing that they wouldn’t have the same holidays.
The strumming continued till he spotted some movement on the other side of the window. If he had been just been staring he would have seen her before she had approached however when she knocked on the window he jumped up fumbling his guitar in the process.
>>>"Happy Christmas?"
Catching the guitar by the neck he looked back to the Princess and smirked, ”Feliz Navidad!” he replied. His smirk was a short one however there was a little purring that echoed from his chest when he saw her. After the other night he had been wanting to see her but didn’t want to seem too desperate, be it from nerves or the cat in him.
”Were you not sure if you wanted to it to be happy? How you doing today love?” he felt like he was yelling so he unlocked the window and opened it. While he wasn’t smiling the purring continued. His tail far less expressive than usual.
Laying closer to the window sill he poked his head out the window so he could talk to her. It was then he was seeing what she was wearing. ”Not cold are ya? Don’t really looked dressed for snow.”
”uuuuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkk.” Appearing in a flash the smells were the first thing that assaulted him then the daylight and then the sights. A few things reminded him of when he was younger but he got an uneasy feeling he couldn’t explain. Motion sickness.
”Mate, ya got ta warn me before ya do that. Could have just as easily flown here and saved ya cab fair. I’m dropping ya next time we fly. See how you like it.” Carrick said with a smirk patting Zell on the shoulder before yelling. ”I’m home!” he jumped up and down free of the ankle his wings opened then closed and he started to look around for familiar faces.
One thing about being ‘home’ was the need for comfort food which Zap seemed to be thinking the same thing. Carrick made a b-line over to the fried food vendor and got in line his tail flicking excitedly behind him. He hopped the Elephant ears still tasted the same. If not he was gonna have to complain to someone. You don’t go home and not complain to someone about something right?
”Did ya see any signs for what time the show starts?” Carrick asked his eyes darting from place to face to see what was different and what was the same. Too much was different, anytime he spotted someone carrying something there were no smiles. Something he didn’t like. Everyone here always smiled or at least they used to.
”Carrick?” he asked as she gestured to him. ”Well ya don’t speak it very well at least.” he stared at the girl with his tail flicking behind him the way a cat’s would when it was toying with its food.
”If you were trying to get me attention,” he said with his arms unfolding, ”Yer supposed to use less inflection. Less insulting.” he turned away from her so she didn’t go deaf and he inhaled and let out another roar giving him the last roar. He didn’t know why but he felt the need to get the last roar in. ‘Fight?’ his beast form asked in the back of his mind. He ignored it though.
”Also ya need to project it if yer gonna scare off any threats… you are?” he asked turning his attention back to her his mismatched eyes giving her a once over.
It was Christmas day at the mansion and while a good chunk of students had gone home for the holidays there were too many that didn’t. The shifter was tired and just felt like being alone. Despite this he forced a smile to everyone followed by any rendition of “Merry Christmas” till he started to repeat himself. It was time to duck in a corner somewhere and wait for the day to be over.
Normally he’d call his mother and he’d wish her a Merry Christmas and they’d talk and then she’d wish him a happy birthday and then they’d talk some more. However this year wasn’t like any year previous. This was the first year he couldn’t call his mom seeing as she had passed earlier that year.
He cried his tears already though earlier that day and when that didn’t help he punched his wall a few times putting a hole in it and when that didn’t work he flew. None of it lifted his spirits or distracted him from the fact that the one thing he wished for that year was the one thing he knew couldn’t happen. Carrick almost left a voicemail at home but knew that would lead to interactions with them. With her gone he no family, no one to call home to.
Hefting his backpack into the corner he managed to find a seat by the window looking out into the grounds that was covered in snow. One of the reasons flying didn’t help him sort his thoughts, it was too cold to be out their for long. So he resorted to the next best thing to help ease his thoughts, his guitar.
Looking out the window he started to strum the cords until his eyes spotted the reflection of the large Christmas behind him. The more he played the more his music started to sound like the blues.
There was an visual sigh of relief with his wings and shoulders dropping. He had a hard enough time ignoring his beast form with his constant yelling in the back of his mind. If the shifter was distracted… he didn’t want to think about it.
The shifter turned around when instructed and was told he could stay if he wanted to, ”A royal invite? Man, must be me lucky day.” he purred while he pulled his shirt tight to his body so he could button it some. His tail swayed behind him.
”Thank you… sorry again.” he scratched the back of his head. ”I can at least keep ya company till yer ready to sleep.” he started to purr it was a long day, however he doubted he’d be able to sleep after just what happened.
Carrick wasn’t sure he followed either this was a lot for him to think about. He didn’t like looking inward, it was loud there and he was afraid what he’d find. Usually he’d make a joke and deal with it another time, it worked so well so far right?
>>>"Carrick, I don't expect to be some kind of a god in bed. Because of my powers... anyone I go to bed with, I have to teach them how to do things anyway. And I don't think it's that hard to learn."
That was a comfort to hear. His tail flicked between them on the bed as he chewed over her words. At least this wasn’t the first time she had to walk someone through sex with her. Wait how many times had she done this before? Should he ask? ‘Mate!’ Carrick shook his head slightly trying to shake the voice of his instincts out from his head. He failed. The hand on his wing was unexpected and he felt the good chills all over. His other form silenced at her touch.
>>>“And if you scared me off, I would not have let you kiss me. I like kissing you. This is new for me too, I've never been with a..."
‘Gorgon’ he thought. Was that an issue for him? He looked to her knowing she was naked under the blanket. If it was he’d get over it.
>>>"... someone with a physical mutation. But I do want to try, with you. Not... right now, if you don't want to. But I don't think you should be embarrassed about it."
He’d be her first with a physical mutation? He looked at his wings and then started to purr again with a small smirk. His heart still racing from the situation. ”Ya like kissing me.” it wasn’t a question. While he was nervous about everything he still managed a sly toothy grin.
”Well, I’d hate ta disappoint ya futher.” he nodded and stood up with a sense of purpose. ”I’ll do it, on one condition. If something happens and I do start ta scare ya you gotta let me know.” he said puffing out his chest. ”M-Maybe not just tonight?” he smirked sheepishly.
”Kissing off the table now or” he pointed to the window. ”Did the moment pass? Not sure the situation…” his tail flicked behind him.
Carrick waited till Zek was up and moving before offering Zorro the steak, he sat like a good boy. He was the best boi now which meant Carrick was getting out of the mansion! He could hardly contain his tail as it flailed wildly behind him. ”Good boy.”
Zorro would get one of Sam’s steaks and Liz would have to deal with that headache later. All around a good start to the day, closing his wings behind him and looking to Zek he kicked his leg out for the ball of gold (non-cancerous hopefully). ”D-Did you plan it to fit on his neck?” Carrick pointing to the tether glad he didn’t have to explain why Zorro was choking. The day just kept getting better.
”Yes we are!” Carrick said kicking his leg out and scratching it glad for the freedom. ”No idea how bad I need this!” Carrick said running down the stairs.
‘Mate!’ Carrick ignored the voice again and shrugged. He was going to suggest kissing again but he was pretty sure that was something that she wouldn’t have gone for now that they were talking. Her legs disappeared under the blanket making it more obvious to him that now was not the time.
"Now you will have to explain to me what the matter is. Because I think it is... one of those cultural differences. So can you use your words, please?... Are you afraid you are bad at sex?"
”Me bad? Nah.” he said shaking his head trying to play it off. ”How high are yer expectations?” he forced an awkward smile, ”Kinda one of those cultural differences? Maybe? If me mother found out I came to yer room this late at night… would have gotten tanned good.” Carrick said his mother was an old fashioned Irish-catholic which was surprising because of who his father was. Maybe that’s why she was so strict? ”Great at repressing and drinking.” he frowned trying not to think about his mother right now.
”I don’t really want ta disappoint ‘nd have ya lose interest ‘cause I’m shite in the sack. Flyin in unfamiliar airs.” he thought more on it knowing he was talking too much now, ”Not entirely sure how the other mes would react either. Now that I think bout it worried I’m gonna scare ya off…” he said with a sigh.
The question he thought was obvious mainly because of how he was acting. The shifter chewed on the word for a moment then he nodded offering up a sly smile, ”Not the word I’d use, preferred inexperienced but yeah.” Carrick said hoping she wasn’t going to start laughing at him. With how she was willing to get naked so often so quickly and the way she talked about her body Carrick knew she was far more experienced and it was a little intimidating.
"Ruin what?"
She pulled the blanket over herself and it made it easier to look at her. The purring was done with for now and so was the deep voice of his beast form. Carrick sighed and then shrugged. ”Us.” while they didn’t have any sort of title attached to what they were other than friends Carrick found himself not wanting to ruin that either. He enjoyed bugging her.
"I mean... yes, it's kind of funny. I thought you've done a lot of this... being an entertainer and all"
”Well, I’m one of a kind then.” he laughed nervously.
>>>"But it's not like anyone does sex well right at the first time. Don't you people teach new partners what to do...? You wouldn't know, would you." "Well, I can teach you. And you can teach me."
She poked his tail, he looked up to her worry clearly on his face before confusion set in. ”Wouldn’t know, and ya seen me in class. I’m a slow study. Lot to take on.” he agreed before looking back at the bed. ”What now!?!”
Being so nervous about the situation Carrick was about to go into proper loogie techniques and what made the best kind before realizing the situation. He kept his mouth ajar though instead because that was clearly a better option than talking about spitting boogers. She was a Princess and naked.
>>>"Oh, stop blushing. It's okay"
She reached for his hand and when she found it Carrick held onto her hand and then cursed, ”Fer **** sakes.” he looked down realized that was a mistake then looked away from her his face even redder than before.
”I-I’m probably gonna be beating meself up over this fer the rest of me life… but…” he sighed loudly and inhaled a quite a bit of air, ”Got a confession ta make, earlier when I said I was a musician so I’m popular with the ladies, that might have been a stretch…never been with a woman before like this…” he gestured to him and her then the bed and then looked back at the Princess, ”I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, what do I do with me hands and is the tail gonna get in the way? he stopped and looked up as if hearing something.
Carrick’s mind had never been a quite place and for the first time ever it was deafening, ‘Fight! Mate!’ beast form wasn’t happy about the situation. ”And now the angry guy is mad at me. Keeps telling me to” he took on the voice of his beast form in his mind, it was low and rumbly like every breath he was on the verge of a roar ”Mate!”
Carrick put his hands in his head, ”I like ya Princess, worried I’m gonna ruin it.” he said honestly. She was naked and he was covering his face. The rest of his mind was silenced with another loud roar. ”Eejit.” Carrick said scolding himself.
