The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Carrick’s jaw dropped slightly while his eyebrows shot up. For the first time that evening Carrick couldn’t control his reaction. His tail flicked first then he tried to form the words but failed to as Sabine went into more detail about what her title involved. It seemed like a lot she thought so too apparently.
Having enough sense the shifter kept his mouth shut till the ‘big boss’ finished explaining what SUPER was all about and how they were there to help mutants like him they worked with HAVEN, the place that had that pool party that he didn’t get an invite to but apparently everyone else in the city did. He tried not to take it personal.
”Sorta like at the mansion.” he said summing it up. He already had the option to train there as well but that didn’t mean he had the proper motivation. It seemed now he didn’t have much of a choice however, the alternative didn’t really seem like an option. Even though he hated class.
”I like the sound of Asset though.” he said finally his tail flicking behind him as he thought more on it. ”Sounds important, better than Agent.” he flashed a smile showing off his pointed canines. ”This will really piss off the old man, better than the alternative right?” he looked to Pippa for conformation. He trusted her so far and it hadn’t come back to bite him yet.
Carrick leaned forward in his seat to match Sabine, the big boss. ”Do I get a gun?” he asked raising an eyebrow. He wasn’t sure how he felt about guns but never had an interest in having one. They were loud and someone with his kind of hearing it would be a pain.
The shifter chirped and purred, ‘I don’t think I can fit on any electronics. Maybe the old tube televisions but I haven’t seen any of those around in a long time. All about the windows though.’ he tried to explain as he watched Hiyori look at him lazily. Did he look that out of it when he was ready for a nap in this form? Carrick doubted it he could only look majestic.
He chirped a question when she curled up and closed her eyes mentioning about naps, ‘Only fluffy because of the wings right? Was that a fat joke?’ he waited a second then looked back up at the sky. ‘Joke’s on you. It’s gonna be a short one. Carrick couldn’t recall if he told her about the time limit but figured for now this was alright so he decided to enjoy it as well feeling the sun warm up his body as his eyes started to get heavy.
It wasn’t long before his eyes snapped open and he let out a loud chirp. ‘Time to change’ as gently as he could in a hurry shook his wing out from under Hyiori before running back into the bushes the change starting before he was fully hidden. Some yelling and screeching later he removed from them buttoning up his shirt like nothing happened. ”Pleasure sleeping with ya. Always forget how great naps are in that form.” he said before he laughed, ”One hell of an alarm.” he yawned and stretched.
This was stupid. Kids were stupid. The shifter was technically a kid still but even he wasn’t that dumb. It was a quick rescue that left him drenched and yelling at a few girls who thought it be hilarious to scream shark by being chased by a kid who had a fin. They were all friends and there was no danger. The shifter set them down by the fire that was on the beach and made a joke at all their expense and how they owed him one. They offered to have him party with them ‘at least’ so he dry off. One of the girls was looking at him the way Juniper was earlier, which reminded him about her.
It took a few seconds but he made it back to Juniper who didn’t move. Shirtless and wet he landed from where he took off. ”Didn’t know ya played, love.” he grinned. ”Sorry about that. Bad joke gone worse but everyone is alive.” he opened his feathers a little turned away from her shaking not only his wings but his tail as well trying to get any excess water off. Unfortunately the pants stuck to his legs and he’d have to deal with that for now.
”You up fer a little fire on the beach? The ladies who suck at practical jokes have one going and yers truly got an invite.” he said leaning over and grabbing his shirt. ”Up for a lift? Hope ya don't mind though. I'm a bit wet.” he asked throwing the shirt over his shoulder flashing a grin.
”Trouble isn’t really the word I’d use. Trouble only happens with you around. Trouble’s only when ya get caught.” he said smirking. ”Unforeseen circumstances.” he finally said trying to find the right words. ”All depends on how I react to them I guess.”
”and what should I have just let the guy fall from the building? Why was he even in a burning building in the first place is beyond me let alone jump from it. They didn’t have wings and I did figure I’d help him out.” he chuckled. ”Perfer if I ignored ‘em?” the shifter claimed to be a lot of things. Hero wasn’t one of them. Good Samaritan, maybe.
”Not sure, just been circling the grounds till you decide you want down. Baby steps.” he smirked, nodding his head down to the snow covered pines and grounds below them. It looked almost like a picture. Then there was the skyline of the city off in the distance illuminated by the sun that slowly lowered to the horizon in the distance.
”Also, I figured ya liked trouble seeing as yer sweet on me.” he smirked and felt his ears getting warm now that he was thinking about how close she was to him.
Juniper smiled and Carrick returned it not sure what she meant by anything. ‘Mate!’ yelled the familiar voice in the back of his mind. It sounded more aggressive to him than usual as if the first shout wasn’t loud enough. Carrick took another sip from the bottle then his face started turned a shade of red when he saw what she was doing.
His voice cracked, ”O-Oh!” he said breaking a guitar string. He looked down welcoming the distraction wishing there was another one. Something to distract them from what she was suggesting. Carrick was flattered and flustered at the same time so much so his feathers ruffled out a bit his smile turning more awkward.
Someone shouted something off in the distance Carrick practically begging for it picked up the shouted words no problem. ”Shark?” he asked allowed hearing another shout. His pointed ears twitched a bit at the sound of another shout. ”Fer **** sakes, there’s signs all over the place. Why would anyone be swimming?” he stood up and grabbed the bottle took a long drink and removed his shirt. The process took longer than he wanted but so was the curse of the wings.
Taking to the air towards the water where his vision zeroed in on a few kids swimming in the moonlight. Someone was pale enough to reflect the moon. Or it was a moon. Where they naked? He was gonna be upset if he had to pull some naked people from the water again.
The shifter scrunched his nose at the question trying to find the right way to phrase it. ”Oh... that...” the purring stopped when he thought on it slightly embarrassed. ”Sorry, been happening more lately, I can turn it off no problem I don’t even realize I’m doing half the time.” he said not really concerned as to why he was purring more. It might have been related to the Princess. Carrick wasn’t going to be the one to point it out.
”I’d definitely be having more fun with this.” the shifter flashed his teeth in a smile and adjusted his fingers under her not really paying attention to where they were and what they were holding on to.
”Sometimes I joke the wind is too bad and then stop flying for s bit. Or I’ll start getting creative with how I fly. Like rolling, or flips. But this is supposed to be fun fer both of us and if I ruin this ya might not want to fly with me again.” he was on his best behavior it seemed she knew how to motivate Carrick.
”Only dropped someone once and didn’t try to catch them but the guy was on fire and he landed into water.” he said turning slightly letting the wind hold them up. ”But in me defense the wings aren’t fireproof and it would have been hard flying anyone if they erupted in flames.” Carrick smirked.
”Do what on purpose?” he asked as he made an effort to hold the Princess as close as possible. He would have claimed it was for warmth but his face might have stayed a bit redder than usual.
”Fly?” he asked curiously. Not sure what she was asking. Half the time he purring he wasn’t aware he was doing it. Especially not now. He was more focused on her than he was himself.
Carrick slowly flapped his wings raising them higher into the air making sure to watch her reaction so she didn’t panic. ”Yer not afraid of heights are ya, love?” he asked curiously. ”Nothing wrong with it. Like I said, won’t drop ya.” he said with a small chuckle. ”I kinda like ya.
The shifter nodded his head, ”Good motivation not to then.” he flashed his teeth in a smile. Watching her wrap herself in a cloak he suddenly wished it was warmer out. Easier to convince someone flying was great when there wasn’t snow on the ground. At least it wasn’t windy.
She held her arms open and Carrick laughed, ”Don’t make it awkward?” he asked trying not to laugh knowing full well he was usually the awkward one. Carrick approached slowly then scooped her and opened his wings with a big grin on his face. ”You’d be warmer if I shifted so yer gonna have to get close.” his face got a little red as his purring continued.
Carrick pecked her cheek with a kiss and snapped opened his wings thrilled for the opportunity. With a jump and a few flaps of his wings they were in the air. For the first time Carrick wasn’t temped to fly as fast as he could. ”Let me know if we get too high, love.” he said honestly. Not even thinking of his hand placement.
”Where we going?” he asked glad for the for the distraction again his mind only focusing on where they were now going and what she was going to give him as a gift. The shifter followed the Princess once again, sipping his hot cocoa till they got to the mansion door. She grabbed her cloak and he just followed her back outside wondering why she wanted to go back out. She was cold right?
Carrick noted the smile and got nervous.
>>>"This is a special occasion, so you better make the most of it."
Something suddenly seemed off with her.
>>> "You can take me flying."
The Irishman waited for the punch line expecting a joke or something the lines of ‘got you.’ So he stared at her not sure what to do or say just looking skeptical. Then it all clicked, it wasn’t a joke right? ”Hold up? What!?!?” he asked trying to hide his excitement. He started purring at the idea and his tail swayed excitedly behind him.
The shifter jumped and spun opening his wings kicking some snow dust up in the process then landed and tried to act nonchalant about the offer. ”I mean.... it’s a pretty good gift...” he said still purring failing at hiding his excitement.
”Promise I won’t drop ya.” he said giving her a sly grin.
Carrick was laughing the longer he played and the more Juniper managed to remember all the words he might have started playing too fast at first but looked back down to his guitar and focused on playing to her lyrics so he didn’t throw off her spitting out the lyrics. He was impressed so much so he’d gladly bring Juniper along to get some people pumped at bars. She must have been a blast at parties.
His tail swayed behind him as he looked back up when she dropped some lyrics he wasn’t familir with. Was she free styling? The shifter looked from her back down to his guitar then stopped, ”Smash?” he asked looking horrified at first then held his guitar closer. She didn’t mean smash his guitar right?
”Ya mean the video game?” he asked reaching for the bottle. Looking around confused. Did she have the system nearby? ”Hiding it under yer sweater, love?” Carrick smirked taking a long sip from the Rumqeila bottle. ‘Mate!’ the voice called out again in the back of his mind. It was then Carrick was starting to put everything together. There was no way they could play the game on the beach.
The shifter looked around confused like he was missing something. It was just the pier and then on the other side down a ways was a small fire. Meaning it was even further away.
”Modern ones aren’t too bad. Like the beats. Not really the lyrics.” he said grinning to his guitar still strumming some chords. His toes dug into the sand as he rocked a bit more to the music now that he had a shot or two in him. ”Hard to compete with the classics though.” he smirked.
”Makes ya sound like a spirit or a demon.” he laughed a little at her summoning comment. ”Honestly I was just trying to summon a pint or a drink, had no idea it came with company.” he paused, ”Not complaining mind ya. Always up fer some company.”
The shifter eyed her toes when she wiggled them at him and he looked back to her raising an eyebrow and smirking, ”Good thing I’m anything than boring.” he quipped back opening one of his wings to show them off. Carrick liked the attention and knew that people always liked looking at his wings. He got lost in them often enough. His tail flicked a little sand towards her.
”Gold, eh?” he laughed, ”first time anyone said that about bumping inta me. But I’ll take it.” he grinned at her compliment. He smirked back and returned the wink still in his ‘entertaining’ mindset now that he had a captivated audience.
After her pull from the bottle he reached out for it again. ”Hmmmm...” trying to recall the song. He didnt’ know how to play it with the guitar yet but he smirked at the challenge.
”Not much of a dancer, but let’s see if I can remeber the lyrics. Might need a bit of help with this one.” he said as he started playing it was slow at first but he recalled some of the words. ”Oh-ho, Sweat baby, sweat baby sex’s a Texas drought, me and you do the kind of stuff that only Prince would sing about.” he trailed off for her because he was still trying to remember the rest of the lyrics. Oblivious she just made a pass at him.
When she laughed and pulled away his face started to heat up. Was he reading things wrong? Did he wait too long to kiss her since the other night? A million thoughts went through the shifters’s head except for the one thing he needed to hear, ‘chill’. Instead he got the loud, ‘Mate!’ from one of the other forms.
>>>"I know what you are getting for your birthday."
”Oh?” he asked clearing his throat and pulling away quickly drinking the hot cocoa in hopes to make his failed attempt to kiss her less awkward, it was still hot and he burned his tongue a little and stopped nervously chugging his drink.
”Well, coming from you I bet it’s gonna be pretty extravagant.” he sheepishly grinned. Maybe a new Guitar? A large Amplifier to make more noise than he was already capable of. Those sounded nice.
The shifter shrugged, it could have been. He knew he’d probably be less awkward than he was now with certain things if he was as good as he was younger than he was now with music. It definitely would have gotten him the good kind attention earlier.
When she got up he followed her out his eyes following her as they walked into the living room. His gaze went over to where he was earlier when she first got his attention from the other side of the window and then he noticed she was already dangling the mistletoe over her head. ”Not bad.” he smirked.
He didn’t know if he was intimidated by her attitude or experience but he hesitated for a second when she dangled it. His eyes fixed on her and he returned the smile and then took a few steps forward. ”Form’s a little off.” he lied as he leaned in to kiss her. ”We can work on it though.”
He almost forgot who he was talking to when she tossed that back at him. He choked and started to laugh before he took a sip which was good. It just meant he wasn’t going to be shooting Hot cocoa from his nose. It probably would have warmed him up faster though but the thought didn’t sound too enjoyable. ”Well enough.” he lied. ”Might have gotten a few. I wasn’t the talented musician I am now.” he said with a smirk.
>>> "We do"
They did. He already asked that question. He was looking for that sweet topic change and it seemed it failed to appear anything to distract him from thinking what he was thinking. He sipped his chocolaty drink followed by a tail flick. ”It’s uhhh... better in person.” he said with a nervous smirk.
”Think I saw some in the living room near the tree...” he looked down to his drink and then raised an eyebrow, ”.... want to go take a look?” he asked with a smirk.
The flash of light prior told him that Zek won another prize, ”Wasn’t too hard then, eh?” Carrick asked rifling through the wallet pulling the cash out. Less than he was expecting maybe the guy was pissy because his daddy didn’t love him enough. Carrick smirked, ”Off to the big top!”
They passed by the firebreathers and knife throwers on the way to see a little of each unfortantly for them everyone was packing up because they were about to be in the show. Everyone he knew seemed happy to see him except one of the firebreathers, it might have had to do with Carrick’s snide comment, ”Yeah, got about a foot taller, whose the shrimp now?” Carrick apparently wasn’t over almost getting set on fire all those years ago. People forgot that feathers are flammable. Carrick didn’t.
When they arrived at the big top the smell of hay, fresh dirt and fried foods lingered in the air. Carrick was home. Other than his stomach growling he was at a lose for words recalling all the fun he had under this tent... okay maybe not this exact tent but the setting seemed right.
Nostalgia hit him like a brick. Wait more like a slap. The shifter stumbled forward when a large hairy man without a shirt slapped Carrick on his back. He stumbled forward and was brought back to the here and now. “You come back to the big top and you don’t come even come say “Hey, I’m doing well. Sorry I didn’t call after my mom passed. I apparently don’t look any younger.” he sighed and brought his hands up in defense when Carrick snapped around his eyes turning to slits.
”Fek off!” Carrick growled as he turned and spotted his old friend Tiny. It was an Ironic name. His real name was Tim but he was seven feet tall and the circus’s strong man so everyone just called him Tiny. Upon realizing who had hit him Carrick’s mood turned and he started grinning and jumping up and down swinging at the guys hands. ”Hey ya giant **** sorry about that. I’m good. Here fer the show to watch this time. I don’t need ta steal the spotlight from ya now. This is pal. Ze-k.” he said thumbing towards Zek before standing up fully again his tail swaying behind him.
Tiny looked to Zek then nodded his head then looked back to Carrick as the lights started to fade, “You two stick around after the show. We need to catch up half-pint.” ”Come on’ least a full pint now.” he grinned and nodded his head. ”Long as yer paying fer the drinks.” the shifter turned and went towards some seats making sure not to sit in the first few rows. That was the splash zone.
”Tiny was like the cool uncle I never wanted.” he explained as he found a seat.
