The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He had an accent... and a guitar.... was the mansion trying to replace him as the best exchange student ever? No, Carrick was one of a kind and the man before him was waving his phone around and not a steak sandwich. Carrick took another bite, ”Awww, was hoping fer a good show.” his wings and tail drooped a little when he realized it was just someone showing up for the first time.
>>> "I am not a pretty bird,"
Mismatched colored eyes shifted over to the African Grey that he knew as Nico, Lizzy’s feathered shadow and shook his head. ”Awww, don’t say that. Yer the prettiest!” knowing compliments got him nowhere with the bird. Even when he and Liz were dating Nico wasn’t really a fan of his, and that was a decade ago.
”Careful mate, that there is a teacher.” he said with a mouth full. ”’used ta be fun but then she got older. such is life though.” he didn’t make eye contact with Lizzy it was still awkward. At least on his end of things. How do you go back to being normal around someone who once meant so much? Avoidance was his usual answer, along with smug comments and some attitude.
”Ya sure ya want to? I mean, there are other schools.” he said with another bite, ”Ones that get blown up less often.” he said smelling a fresh coat of paint somewhere in front of the building.
>>>”Surely you’ve all been waiting to roll out the red carpet for the lead singer of ‘Atticus and the Inferno.’ am I right?”
”Can’t say I have. Fun name though!” he said looking down at the lack of red carpet. He played in a band as well? His tail perked up behind him as the camera caught his image and he gave a mock bow opening his wings and tail. Never fully understanding social media nor having the attention span for it he was always a fan of getting out there. ”Hey! Hey!” his free hand reached up behind his ear and pulled out an ace of diamonds. A simple trick, and yes. He usually had some card up his sleeve just for this instance.
Another bite and he spoke, ”Carrick O’Conner! Lead singer of....” he looked around for some inspiration for a band name but found little in the form of inspiration. Liz was there and so was her parrot Nico, along with an assortment of other critters his other forms would normally call a snack. ”The snack pack?” he then shook his head. He didn’t have a band, normally he joined other ones to help when they were missing a vocalist or a frontman.
Why was he here again? He wondered silently as he bit into a steak sandwich the steak in question was elk and it was paired with a large tomato, some cheese and lettuce all wrapped up in some kind of artesian bread. Basically it looked like something from a cartoon, but it was different. He was eating it which made it even more reason why he was at the mansion.
This place had it all! Security, free meals and a place he could sleep when he was trying to avoid seeing the princess due to a black eye or a broken nose. A place he could rest and heal before going back to his new home to get lectured about how he needed to be more careful.
The little whistle from his nostril was the first obvious reason he was there followed by the slight angle his nose was at. The sandwich was what he distracted himself with, he took another big bite and walked down the halls without much purpose. His tail flicked behind him as he walked batting the end of his slightly beat up guitar that hung on his back.
>>>”Oy! Come on then!”
His elf like ears perked up and he started to walk to the source of the yelling. Was it a fight? Who was it with? He didn’t recognize the voice but he could hear it full of confidence. Was he the one he was going to bet on? He wasn’t a student anymore so he couldn’t get detention for gambling at school right? How much did he have on him?
>>>What's this about a star pupil?"
”Graduated already...” he said with a mouth full of a very expensive meal. ”But I’m here. Where is the fight?” Carrick asked looking from the new comer to the ex and her assorted animals. If he wasn’t already eating his stomach would have growled at the site of the cute little critters.
Were they going to fight? Carrick looked from Lizzy to the newcomer sizing him up and down. ”Got... ten on him.” he said confidently with less food in his mouth. Not because he didn’t think the newcomer could win against Lizzy but because Carrick wasn’t sure if he had the money. His nose whistled slightly as he reached into his back pocket to find his money clip.
”Well I had an excellent teacher!” life. Life was his teacher. He wouldn’t give Lizzy credit for teaching him anything other than about heartbreaks. The mask slipped on and Carrick’s stomach churned at the smell of... was that fish or sour cream and fish? Gross. ”Smells awful.”
The clothing wasn’t too bad of the fit. Between his tail and wings he stuck all the extra appendages under the clothing. The tail wrapped around his stomach and was by far the least noticeable. The wings though made him look like he was wearing padding. Lots of it. Shoulder pads included. ”Ryan Rivers... think this is a fake name.” Carrick said eyeing the badge for any more information. There was an I.D. number as well but that was more than a few digits so he stopped memorizing it in song after four. Instead he was already creating a backstory for Rivers in his head.
Carrick eyed the animals while he awkwardly kept pulling his shirt back down to cover his back still humming the lyrics quickly improvised song and backstory. ”Lester... is that his name or one you gave him?” looking to Lester, ”I’m Carrick and I do like warm bugs, better than cold ones.” he said knowing far more about the subject and how they tasted than he’d care to admit.
----
”Look, I can call ya Carrick or Lester.” the Irishman said as he trudged through the landscape. The fortress wall revealed itself the closer he got. Would have been easier and quicker to fly but that was part of the issue. They were looking overhead. So if that was the case... ‘Beep’
The flashing green lights on the console mounted to the wall signaled he was good to enter as the door unlocked with a loud ‘click’. ”Well that wasn’t too bad.” Carrick said as he pushed the door bundled in his disguise and entered the facility.
With magic being readily available I was thinking maybe some beings from other realms/planes might try to explore our world. Maybe some gods that left when magic did and now that magic is back they think they can waltz on back into our lives as if they were always there.
Maybe some monsters that want a change of diet?
Could always recycle some old plots. Been a minute since anyone got into a fight with some robots. Maybe the stalker bot that started the last registration plot booted back up?
”Says you.” Carrick said sniffing and blowing a snot rocket to clear out any blood that was in there. ”It’s the money maker. I’m dating a princess, can’t be having a broken face all the time.” while he knew he was a fast healer the headache from the lecturing from the princess was not something he wanted to deal with. Nor Praxi, she too had been a bit more concerned for the shifter’s well being as of late... it was... also a headache.
”Well they still have walls surrounding them right? Wouldn’t be too hard fer Mom – I mean Sabine and the rest of our crew ta close the place down and start getting control right? If anything I’d use it as a distraction ta get me pasty @$$ outta here.” the shifter never understood this. One of the reasons he was glad he parted ways from the family business.
”S&&& circus!” Carrick said following behind Ranger, he was more than willing to let his on site supervisor handle the next beating, Carrick was just an intern after all. ”All clowns, no show. Who do ya think the ring master is?” he asked curiously knowing all too well there wasn’t going to be any cotton candy or popcorn for this.
Carrick walked to the edge of the hallway to see a bunch of men in orange jump suits cheering all looking up to a few people standing over them on a walk way holding a few terrified guards. The prison guards were cheering as one of the guards was pushed from the walkway. ”Boss, throw me!” it was the only way Carrick would make it in time.
It was like eating octopus. Live octopus. Carrick didn’t know why he thought of it but he had a brief flash of an eight tentacle creature thrown up into the air and snapped up with ease. Was that a memory from before his de-age? Huh, he didn’t think he remembered anything from then. Maybe it was all a dream instead of a memory.
A boy ran towards them, one that didn’t matter to the shifter as the food was placed before him. Well it matter if he tired to take the food. A large bronzed wing blocked out the vision between the boy and the food deposited on the floor. Carrick didn’t plan on paying for it, nor sharing... it was a gift. Shin was paying for it all.
>>> “Got to hand it to you, Peter. You and your friends always save the day. Eat up. You’ve earned this.”
There was an aggressive trill from Carrick’s beak, mis-matched colored eyes squinted in his direction and a talon reached out to the food and pulled it closer away from the newcomer. This was his.
>>>> “That usually works. Guess we have to take the last ones ourselves.”
Another chirp, this one more aggressive as he nudged a bowl towards Shin. He wasn’t moving yet but was about to get up now that the food in front of him was gone, consumed quickly so no one could steal it. It wasn’t as fun as hunting for it’s meals but being served felt... right. A table knocked over as Carrick’s massive lower half stood up and turned towards the sound of someone screaming. There was more food attacking someone.
The exchange didn’t help. He wasn’t a turtle. If anything he was a cat, however in this instance he didn’t land on his feet so maybe less cat and more... ”Har Har Har! Ya been waiting ta use that one?” Carrick asked trying to push the behemoth who was limp on top of him. The man was heavy, and wow... he smelt bad. ”Uggghhh.” Carrick said trying to hold his breath as he pushed with all his might.
The weight was lifted, or rather rolled... why didn’t he think of that. He was pushing up... it didn’t matter it was done with and the smelly guy was off of him. Carrick took a whiff of his clothes and shook his head as if the scent was stuck to him now. Great. ”I mean, a shell wouldn’t suck.” he said thinking about a better comeback and coming up with nothing.
”I’ll let you take lead next!” Carrick said touching the spot where he was punched. He tapped his nose and winced, a little blood forming taking away the smell of awful body odor to copper. ”Don’t think it’s broken...” he said looking for a reflective surface and touching both sides of the nose. It hurt. Besides he figured he did enough to get the approval from Ranger, if not approval at least a nod one that said, ‘Don’t worry, partner. I think I can rustle up a raise fer you on you’re next paycheck.’
”How long ya think they planned this? the shifter asked blowing a snot rocket containing a little blood off to the side of the hallway. ”Doubt these guys knew about it.” his foot might have found it’s way into the side of the guy that punched him in the face one more time as they continued onwards.
The rumbling continued through the exchange. Carrick never had a girlfriend like this... well he had Liz years ago but that didn’t count. The way he felt for the Amythest was... different more intense. Like he needed her. So when Kyle started to flirt with her the shifter was doing everything in his power not to let one of the other forms influence his choices. They were far more territorial.
“Whoa,” Kyle said mocking a bow. It wasn’t as rehearsed nor as sassy as Carrick’s but that was the last straw. Kyle would pay. “A pleasure Princess, and welcome!” the college student’s smile widened as Praxi wrapped around the princess and faded while he looked back to Carrick. “Well it seems your friend knows where the good parties are! Welcome! I’ll be in later if you want a tour of the place. You two could check out my room, where the after party normally is. Room 304.”
The shifter smirked mischievously making a note of the room number. A look that if either one of the people he arrived saw knew he was already plotting something. ”Aye, been here once or twice and yer parties are always the best. See ya around Kyle!” he said with more inflection on the man’s name. The growl didn’t subside until he entered the building, glad for Praxi diffusing the situation before it got any worse.
When they entered Carrick turned to the girls, ”Oh one more thing, don’t take drinks from random people...” he said as he spotted someone walking around with a tray of Jello shots and snagging a handful for the group. ”Welcome ta college loves!” he said doing the exact thing he said not to do and took one of the shots and kicked it back then offering the rest to the Princess and Praxi.
Carrick was laying on the floor now partially on top of the three inmates as a tiny bit of smoke filled the air surrounding them. He rolled and crouched low finding the first person he could hit and pounced bringing a knee into the part of the jaw. At least it felt that way. Carrick’s vision was blurred as well but it wasn’t the first time he fought with obscured vision.
There was a groan from one of the people he kicked. “What was that!?!” “I don’t know!” cried another. The third didn’t say anything now that Carrick was on top of him. Kicking off the downed inmate like a springboard he leapt onto the next one who was busy pushing himself up from the ground. ”Hiya!” Carrick said with a greeting forcing the next one into the ground his face met the tiled floor and then went limp.
The shifter shouldn’t have said anything, it was all the third needed to find where to throw a punch. Right into Carrick’s face causing him to roll backwards. ”Ow!” he grabbed his mouth and looked at his hand which now had some blood. ”You punched me!” he said surprised.
The smoke was starting to dissipate the guard was scrambling to get away, he was terrified. This was what he was trained for but still wasn’t ready for a full blown prison riot. He decided then and there he was going to quit his job after this. Carrick could smell it through all the body odor. Fear. ‘Hunt’
The shifter’s eyes narrowed into slits more, ‘Fight!’ his aderniline was pumping which was good, otherwise the shifter would have never been able to hold onto the burly inmate who punched him. His back was turned and Carrick leapt gabbing hold of the man’s back and held on as he flapped his wings forward trying to disorient the inmate so he would release the terrified guard. “Let go!”
”Make me!” Carrick said climbing up the man further until he could place his arms for a rear naked choke. From there Carrick pulled and pulled until the inmate went down... by falling backward. ”Awww ****” the shifter said as he was now pinned on the ground. ”Little help?” Carrick asked flailing his wings and tail.
The flight over the city was cold, his pasty exposed legs reflected the light pollution now that it was evening and he was resisting the urge to dig into the backpack that Praxi was currently inhabiting for the flight. It was the same one he had for Hymori but with Praxi’s ability to change shape it made it easier for him to fly two people. ”That’s the place!” Carrick nodded and turned a little so one of the windows on the backpack was pointed to where he was looking as he circled above.
It was a fraternity house with some Greek letters. None of them made sense to the shifter but he also never bothered to learn them despite the amount of times he had attended college parties. ”Figured you two would fit right in!” Carrick chuckled as a gust of wind sent a chill down his spine. They landed in front of the building and Carrick set the Princess down first followed by setting his backpack down and opening it for Praxi.
It was a toga party. Well at least that was what the flyer said. The mismatching colors of people getting creative with curtains and bedsheets made it clear that they would have the most authentic attire. Did his current tunic count as one? Was a tunic a robe? Did it matter?
”Ladies shall we?” Carrick asked as he tossed his backpack into the nearest bush along with the remaining contents inside in case they got into any trouble, it was habit now to travel with at least one pair of underwear along with a few random ‘tools of his trade’.. It was habit now for him to be somewhat prepared when he wasn’t traveling with Zek.
His tail draped behind him as he sauntered up to the cue line as people were handing over ID’s to someone who was already clearly inebriated, they were in the right place alright. “Nice costume.” he said half heartedly as he looked to Carrick’s wings. ”Thanks! One of a kind mate!” he said gesturing to the tunic Amethyst had given him as a gift oblivious he was speaking about his wings. ”Little breezy but it’s a nice fit. Makes shifting a bit easier!”
“Yeah sure go on....” Carrick looked to the door then to the two he arrived with making sure not to get separated. The rotating lights and loud music was calling to him though... well at least the lights. The music he’d have to adapt to.
“Whoa... Hey.” Carrick’s attention turned away from the door as the doorman realized the pair he was traveling with. “I’m Kyle. Never seen you before.” the guy said as he was now ignoring Carrick completely to make eyes at the princess. There was a small rumble in the shifters chest as he growled glad the music was more than likely drowning the sound out.
It shouldn’t have worked. In theory it was great but in practice... Carrick had seen it all go wrong before and unlike those times... he had Lizzy here instead of Zek, or Ranger. So not only was he surprised when it worked but there was a smug look when he landed on the guy in surprise collapsing him to the ground and smashing his face into the snow. He was cold and still naked and now on top of a guy who was struggling but he was smug about it.
”****ing told ya it would work.” Carrick said eyeing Lizzy from her hiding spot amongst a dense set of bushes and trees. ”Happens all the time in the movies!” he said pointing to the breadcrumb trail of clothes he littered out moving away from where Daddy Frost was being held captive... or dead. Carrick wasn’t willing to rule the second one out until he saw him.
”Only surprised that there isn’t...” pointed ears twitched to a branch breaking from the direction goon number one came from. The thief’s wings snapped open and he flew off shivering and waiting for goon number two to approach the clearing.
“Where did you go? I don’t know the area as well as you!” the guy called out muttering under his breath wondering if this was the best career choice. ”Surprise.” Carrick replied landing on the second one ripping off the ear piece and grabbing the communicator before he could call for back up.
A few punches with a closed fist to the face and he was down and bloodied. He wasn’t particularly worried if the man survived or not. He was alive now and if he’d wake up before any of the beasties that Lizzy was talking to smelled the blood he’d be alright. That and hypothermia.
”Look I was right again!” Carrick said smugly wondering how he was going to get the uniform on over his wings.
”I know!” Carrick shouted back. His eyes darted out in front of them adjusting to the dimmer light the further they went from the place they escaped from. ”I listen to the boss that pays me! It’s part of the job!” Carrick said bitterly as he was having a conversation with someone he didn’t care much for. At least anymore. The only reason he didn’t say anything about the team was because of the boss man scared him.
”Then stop going! We’re not going back!” Carrick said looking back noticing a few more nocturnal creatures flying behind them. ”Stop that! They’r gonna lead them right to us!"” Carrick said diving lower into the pines. If they were going to make it back to the mansion in time he was going to have to shift. Even then it would be him diving constantly to build up enough speed. Would Liz survive it? He never went that fast with anyone riding with him before. She’d be the one he was willing to test it on though.
”I know he’s powerful! Not an Eejit Lizzy. They are holding him up! They spotted us and got the drop on him. They know we were coming and set a trap. Ya think I don’t know the situation? They are holding their own against him. Ya think we got a shot right now? We don’t. I’m immortal it’s true.” he said lowering himself into an open spot amongst the trees and landed.
Lizzy was the first to be set down. Carrick’s feet landed next and he was already taking off his shirt in the fridged night air. ”Why am I the voice of reason here? Yer supposed ta be the smart one. Frosty is smarter than us right? He’s the one with the plan? Well they got him and I like living me life above ground.” his pants were off next and he shoved them into the bag he had slung on his back.
”I don’t think he’s the type to go down easily. Enough rumors around the mansion. I doubt this is the first time he’s been in a situation like this. So love, unless ya got a plan behind those blonde locks I’m gonna do what he told me to do and get help.” he was naked now. His feet were cold. Thankfully there was enough tree cover around them to block some of the wind.
His hands were on his hips and he waited for a moment for her answer. He didn’t like leaving someone behind. Especially the man who was always willing to throw the shifter a job or a gig.
This wasn’t how he was expecting to spend a Saturday. He cancelled a date to be here. Thankfully the Princess was understanding... well at least for her. The shifter grunted slightly as he reached for his ex and pulled her up as his wings compensated for the additional weight of another person. ”Back there.” Carrick said flying away from the trouble as ordered. ”Was I the only one listening!?!?” he said with some panic given the situation and the fact that he was only have listening to Frosty the boss man.
It was like getting hit with a pop quiz in one of Lizzy’s classes where he didn’t know any of the answers. It was a feeling he didn’t like. One he was glad to verbalize, ”I can’t be carrying yer team Lizzy! I’m not a pack mule!” he shouted as he flew over wintered landscape. Rolling hills of fresh snow climbed outward the higher he went.
”I don’t know! All I know was he told us to bail and get Gawain! I’m just following orders! He signs the checks! Sam... not Gawain... wait who does pay us?” he thought out loud hoping she had some idea. Lizzy was a teacher. She was on the payroll already... unless she was double dipping... could he get a job teaching? It had to be easy right? Hand out papers, books and tests it had to be easy right?
There were a few more loud commotions behind them as another pillar of ice upended one of recently constructed towers. Carrick didn’t slow though, boss said go so he was going.

”It’s a trap! Fall back plan. Liz, you’re in charge. Get out of here and back to the mansion. Gawain will know what to do” there was sound of commotion in the background. He was fighting someone or shadowboxing. Carrick was only partially listening as he stared into a high power spotlight that flashed on from one of the watchtowers. ”****ers!” Carrick shouted interrupting Sam’s orders to the rest of the team.
Another grunt from Sam as a gunshot echoed from where the icemancer was. ”Kid you alright?!?” there was a momentary pause as Carrick dived into a cloud blinded for a moment until the cloud cover bought him enough time to recover his sense of sight. He stopped flying forward for a moment to respond and lose his tail of light. It kept moving forward and he asked, ”Yeah, they saw me.... but just ta be clear... ya want us to leave you here go tell the rest of yer teammates that you got caught.”
His eyes scanned the grounds of the small and obviously no longer abandoned fortress. How did no one see anyone? He should have seen them. Sam should have sensed them and Lizzy... this was clearly her fault. ”Carrick. Shut up and listen. You. Two. Go. Home.” there was more gunfire and grunts as Sam’s line went dead. There was also flashes on the other side of the compound as members opened fire where Sam was. Pillars of ice erupted and mist started to cover that section of the yard.
Carrick high overhead followed a few clouds as more beams of light illuminated the sky. ”Lizzy, get ready fer a pick up!” Carrick said into his ear wondering how much he was getting paid for this ‘easy’ mission. Did the X-Men have hazard pay? Should he have negotiated his compensation? It was odd they never asked for a routing number.
He spotted his ex-girlfriend and former teacher in the snow where they left her. ”So glad we brought her along...” he muttered loud enough to be picked up by anyone listening on the comms and then dove as more lights filled the sky.
The Irishman hated wearing suits. Even when he was ‘in’ character. In fact that was the only thing that was keeping him from tearing off his clothes and flying out the nearest window. It was a party of smug elites . One he wouldn’t typically be caught anywhere near. However the idea of a free meal and free booze gave him enough reason to tag along with Zek. That and the possibility of everything going sideways. It was... expected now whenever he hung out with Zek. It was rarely boring.
His tail shifted uncomfortably under the suit jacket as he cleared his throat. ”I should say... the drive in to this dreary city best be worth it.” his hair was slicked back under a magical top hat. The jet black cane he wielded wasn’t the disco staff, a last minute discission to prevent them from being bared at the door. Well it would have... if they took the door. Someone was nice enough to leave the balcony windows unlocked. No party was crash proof when it came to the two of them.
Reaching up and grabbing an oyster he took a bite. ”Hardly any sand. Lovely.” Carrick said drawing out each word the way he would imagine an old timey rich person would. He snagged two more ignoring his wings as someone bumped into one of them. “Heavens!” the woman said as she realized what she bumped into. “Watch where you move those thing.” before rolling her eyes and whispering “I’m surprised they let it in.” to her date for the evening.
Carrick smiled ignoring the comment and tucking a bracelet into his side pocket before saying, ”Aye he has just as much right being let in as you!” he scoffed and then looked to the woman’s date shook his head then turned to Zek. ”Don’t let it bother ya mate. Is that... bacon I smell!?!?” his tail perked up behind him which got a few more looks.
