The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was another painless shift, the singing helped gave him a focus other than the pain. So when someone hit him on the rear he didn’t immediately turn and attack. Instead he started purring his slitted eyes turning to big round discs under the influence of the charmer’s ability. The singing. The guy who hit him left. That just left him, his new mate and someone who needed to die. The shifter debated attacking the man in the cowboy hat but instead was distracted by his tail. He could always kill him later. If he wanted.
Carrick’s beast form batted at his tail then stopped when the singing changed. His eyes glossed over again and he did as he was told which was to go back to his cage for now. Normally he’d fight, or run. He didn’t like cages but the singing... Carrick went belly up when he rolled in the hay. Till his time limit hit and he came to.
“Carrick?” ”Me?” he woke up naked again with another loin cloth near his head. He was in pain but threw them on and searched for the voice. It was Tiny. In a cage? Tiny never did cages. In fact he fought like hell when Carrick was given a cage instead of a trailer when he first joined the circus. They were both small, Carrick didn’t get the difference. “What happened?” Carrick stood and shrugged his nostrils smelling of smoke he should look for the source.
“Why are we in the cages?” Tiny asked his hands turning a hue of grey as he put his hands on the bars. He was sweating profusely when he bent the bars. “We’re men! Not animals! We don’t do cages!” he said almost trumpeting the louder he got.
”No.... we don’t...” Carrick said looking around the more he thought about it. The singing died down the more he looked around. His friends. They were in cages too. ””Let! Me! Ou- hey darling!” the singing got louder again and his and Tiny’s aggression died down. His eyes glossed back over and he started waving to the charmer. “Now, now boyssss!” her tongue clicked or flicked out of her mouth. Carrick couldn’t remember just that she was the most beautiful.... voice he had ever seen.
“We got to get ready for your next performencessss.” she chided as she pointed Tiny back to his cage. Once worked up Tiny pulled the bent bars back into place and waited for further orders. Carrick purred loudly.
“You big ssssstrong boysssss got a sssshow to put on. You do well and I’m all yourssssss.” she touched each of the bars of Tiny’s cage as she passed. Another fellow animal shifter stuck his snout out of another cage when she passed. There was some whining behind the cage door and she patted the snout.
“You boyssss do your besssst to get the highessst numbers okay? The more you get the more I’ll ssssing for you.” she lied. “Carrick, Tiny. You boysss ready to put on a show?” she sang. There was a click and the cages opened.
“Yeah!” Tiny’s eyes glossed over exited the cage and he stood proud. “It will be the best show ever.” he said confidently exiting the back area and entered center stage. Carrick’s eyes glossed over as well again continued to purr as he waved to the charmer. ”This one’s fer you love.” he said as he started to shift again. ‘Mate!’ shouted the beast’s voice in the back of his mind followed by ‘Fight! Kill!’ Carrick continued to purr as he walked with swagger following Tiny out to center stage.
There were less people this time but that didn’t matter to Carrick, he had a plan. Shift fight and win. Then he could go back to living happily ever after with whatever her name was. They’d make beautiful music together.
Words exited a loud speaker as Carrick started to shift. Beast form responded with the call as he let out a roar and started pulling his skin off to make way for his furred form. "Sorry kid! She's mine!” ”F--ight!” Carrick roared forming his first actual words in this form. Carrick lunged as Tiny started to shift as well into his Elephant form.
The rings were smaller than the shifter remembered or he got bigger. Either way the rings would still be on fire. When they lit Carrick’s Gryphon form hesitated and shirked away from it but was reminded he had a show to put on. The singing was the first reminder the gasps and cries of excitement was the second and then there was Larry Zoo. Someone Carrick was beginning to think wasn’t all there. Or he forgot who he was riding. Either way one of Carrick’s forms would be having a word with Larry if there was another... The Gryphon let out a loud screech hoping to deafen Larry Zoo.
The shifter was a showman however and this was his world so when he felt the spurs he flew as high as he could while spinning until he was at the highest point he could fly. Carrick backflipped in the air and then started his quick descent to the ground hoping Larry Zoo and his spurs were afraid of heights and was to stupid to hold on. He wasn’t.
Before he hit the ground Carrick snapped his wings open zooming through the first ring. A feather caught fire and fell off before it was a problem. Larry Zoo pulled on Carrick’s neck practically choking him as he tired to stay as close to the body as possible. His cowboy hat didn’t make it. Smacking the top of the on fire ring the hat fell behind as Carrick barrel rolled through the second ring slowly building up speed as he started zooming through the rest of them.
“Dumb beast! My hat!” muttered Zoo as he kept hold on Carrick’s side with the spurs. One thing you don’t do is insult the ride. His Gryphon form loved attention and had an Ego that put Carrick’s to shame even with knowing he was performing the Gryphon’s tail thrashed behind him. One more time... if he did something one more time...
They were close to the last ring on fire, only a few feathers were singed that was fine. He could clean them later. What he couldn’t do would be take back the last stunt he pulled as Larry Zoo decided another kick would encourage more speed. It didn’t. Carrick arched his back at the last ring sending Larry Zoo face first into a flaming ring of metal. There was a loud clang a shriek from Carrick’s Gryphon form and then a falling Larry Zoo who was fumbling at his face and trying to kick a steed who wasn’t there.
Carrick could hear the audible gasp from the crowd as Larry quickly fell to earth cursing behind a bloodied nose. The shifter sighed and adjusted himself into a dive. Before hitting the ground Larry was caught in one of Carrick’s claws then tossed upwards on to his back. “Ka-ill you.” he said as he landed holding his nose on Carrick’s back. The crowd erupted in cheers as Larry Zoo threw his hands up in the air as if it was all part of the show.
Circling the center ring Carrick spotted his target and snagged the cowboy hat before landing. Larry waved his hand about and Carrick with his claw tossed up the hat trying to catch it on his head. Larry Zoo responded in kind by kicking him once and catching his hat. The lights dimmed and Carrick and Larry ran off from the stage as the lights dimmed.
---
“I don’t care who that thing thinks he is!” shouted Larry when they were behind the curtain and the next act was on. Larry was yelling at the woman with the beautiful voice and Carrick still in his Gryphon form decided to go over and giv him a piece of his mind. He gave Zek a look like, ‘Can you believe this guy?’ he looked to his bloodied sides and gave a sharp chirp. ‘Spurs!
His body felt heavy, was it a half hour already? bird like beak gave another sharp chirp and he started to alter back to his humaniod form. His sides were bloodied and he was sweating heavily. His body felt like it was on fire.
”**** you Larry Zoo, come at me with spurs again and I’ll make ya eat ‘em.” Carrick said as someone tossed him a blanket. He heard the singing again this time louder like before when she was near. Hiss heart started to race a bit and he looked up to the singer she was.... average looking. The Princess was far more attractive by comparison. Not that anyone would compare her.
”Will ya sing fer me again?” he asked breathing heavily feeling his body go heavy as the woman smile nodded. “We aren’t done yet.” before Carrick started to shift again his vision went dark.
After the roar people dispersed around him. His heart rate was pumping and his more feline features started to accentuate. Tail trashing behind him like he was studying prey he turned his head to the first person who approached him. It was Juniper and his pupils refocused on her. She was asking him what was next. The growl that started to rumble in his chest died down. ”Don’t know. Does he even know?” he asked grabbing the nearest robe. His eyes shifted towards Juniper but with everyone naked around them he couldn’t make eye contact.
‘Fight?’ the unwelcomed voice asked confused at everything going on. ‘Flight?’ Carrick wanted to leave and he looked around for a way out. Juniper could walk him through walls but could they fly out of a sewer? Was Carrick a bad friend for wanting to leave Zek behind? ”Leave?” he asked his voice still having a hint of a growl behind it.
”Eejit...” he muttered as he looked to Zek moonwalking towards them with the staff he had been working towards. ”Can we go now? Not really my kind of party.” he said looking anywhere but at people.
”Worst party ever...” he said offering the robe to Juniper, ”Love, hold this fer me?” he asked as he looked back to Zek, ”Too late fer book club? One of ya make the exit and I’ll take us out?” he asked already deciding to shift welcoming the pain that was associated with it.
Letting out a painful roar he started to pull his skin to make way for the fur. At least his Gryphon form wouldn’t be distracted with all the naked people. Juniper hadn’t seen his shifted form yet so he reluctantly counted on Zek to explain what he meant.

”Sounds... boring... and wet.” he said a little confused, was Iceman into anime training? He wondered if he could ask to fly in an altered gravity field then decided it probably be more work than fun. He had flown against the wind before it was the same right?
She agreed with him but he didn’t really feel like she sold it. He folded his arms while still in the air his tail flicked in her direction not sure what to make of her. Other than she couldn’t really fly. Even with her powers. Not fly like he could at least. She was another grounder who could experience a form of floating.
”I can do that too.” he grinned smugly, ”It’s called waving.” he said still flying. ”Ya going to the danger room now?” he asked curiously.
”Could always tag along. If ya want to fly.” he said lowering himself, ”I can take on students.” he didn’t know if he could teach her how to fly seeing as she didn’t have wings but he wasn’t going to tell her that.
”Told ya. Any chance ya get gift eh?” he chuckled and started purring before giving her a once over. ”Ya look beautiful.” he blushed offering her the plastic dipped roses. ”Sure ya would preferred something a little more extravagant. But... eh night’s still early. Might surprise ya still. Who knows. ” he said stepping into her room and looking for his jacket and guitar.
”Got a jacket?” he asked looking around till he spotted both of them in the corner by his usual entrance. Walking over to the window and grabbing his jacket, ”Or a blanket. Bit cold out but I got some ways ta keep us warm.” he flashed his teeth in a smile and threw the jacket on after unbuttoning the wing slots. It wasn’t his best jacket but considering there’d be a little flying he thought he dressed up enough.
His tail flicked behind him as he threw his guitar on his back, ”Pretty sure I’m gonna ruin this holiday fer ya. Any one after this night is gonna be hard ta follow. Really outdone meself.” he said thumbing his nose and sticking out his chest confidently.
”Didn’t eat right?” he asked hoping she didn’t. He did mention there would be food. Carrick was sure not to explain much more than that. Walking back to the hallway. ”Got a little flying to do, unless you’d rather walk. ” he grinned.
Carrick hated dressing up. His bow tie reminded him of a collar that was too tight. His tail and wings kept fighting the suspenders. His shirt felt tight to his shoulders and pulled his sleeves tight around the wrists. He grumbled and fought the urge to just flex his scrawny arms and rip the shirt. She told him she liked it when he dressed up so here was looking like a man in a with wings and a tail that was visibly uncomfortable. Maybe if he was lucky one of his other forms would tap in and rip it all?
Speaking of uncomfortable. Carrick eyed the sheen on the now plastic roses. He might have bought a favor from the mansions plastic manipulator to make the roses he got for the Princess last forever. He didn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing but he thought of it on the fly and ran with it. Two diamonds well spent at least he thought so.
Until he started to over think it again. ‘Mate!’ ”Yeah, usually what happens now. Constructive criticism would be helpful now boys. Nothing?” he asked to himself before he felt an overwhelming source of pride. Gryphon approved so it was enough for him.
Carrick hated using doors but knew she appreciated it so he knocked on her door instead of the window. It was Valentines day. Not something he normally cared about other than the occasional gig but now he thought ahead and got a girlfriend... well they haven’t discussed what the were really but Carrick was hopeful he has been spending the night a few times a week at least so she had to be interested right?
Gifts went out to the moms, flowers and a note thanking them for keeping him out of jail. He recalled it was an important date to his real mom. It didn’t feel right not giving them flowers. The nervous shifter hoped the Princess didn’t relocate his guitar. Today was a special day. Even if he didn’t give the details about the date to her just that it was a holiday designed to spend money on the each other..
Why was he up this early? His tail thrashed behind him as he stumbled down the hallways barefoot. With a hand he pulled up his ratty jeans. His other hand brought up a tall mug of coffee he blew on it and took a sip. It was dark in the mansion, given the night before and his powers it was too bright, hence his sunglasses. He was hungover and found himself in the Princess’s bed again which was why he probably smelt like her perfume. He sniffed arm and started purring, yup he smelled like her.
Why was he walking into the danger room? He eyed Satan waiting for him. Must have been a great... he got paid for the gig last night as well. It was a good night! Why did he have to die. Granted he wasn’t too surprised he was being greeted by the devil. He didn’t say anything but walked closer and sipped his coffee.
After a moment he snapped his wings open and mocked bowed one he used when putting on a show for the Princess. ”Lady in Red, got to say I wasn’t expecting ya fer a few years at least.” he stood tall and folded his wings behind him taking a sip of his coffee.
”If were about ta duel fer me soul I want a guitar of gold.” he sipped his coffee. ”I’m just gonna need ta grab me guitar first.” he said smirking. Why did someone sign him up for this?
Zek was a clown. Never a more perfect role ever existed for someone Carrick knew. He seemed to have perfected the role since Carrick last saw him. ”I know him.” Carrick said pointing out Zek in makeup as he dodged a leg sweep. “Yeah? Who cares?” said a stage hand who was busy moving something heavy behind him. Obviously not interested in a stirring performance or talking to someone in a loincloth.
“Carrickkkkk.... time to get ready... oh and here...” the charmer handed Carrick something that looked like breakaway for a horse but it had something resembling a ball gag to it. ”That’s gonna be a no for me love...” he said missing the rest of Zek’s performance wishing he could see the rest of the show. ”Not really me thing... We can try at some point. We don’t like the whole leash thing.” it restrained the neck and it didn’t let him move which was important while performing.
“.....” the charmer hesitated her forked tongue flicking at him. He should have done what she wanted. It was working so well before right? “.....jussssst don’t talk when you ssssshift....” The shifter smirked, ”Careful darling, yer starting to sound like an Ex.” he laughed and then took a few steps away from everyone behind the curtain.
It was a quick and painless shift which was weird, normally he could feel them. This one seemed almost peaceful. Maybe it was the singing. The glassed eyed Gryphon hopped in front of the curtain and lowered as was requested by the song. Someone hopped onto his back.
The Ring Master cleared his throat and waited for the spot light to turn on him before speaking, “And what a bunch of rambunctious Rrrrrrrrapscallions!” he turned quickly brandishing his cape the spotlight turning a hue of blue as fire erupted up from around him. He twirled his mustache a bit as he spoke to add to his character.
“We spread the word this was a show to remember, we have some... creates nay beasts, fearsome yet beautiful forgotten by time and trust me... they are all very real...” the flames behind him died down. Grabbing his hat into a bow and lifting his cane. “I give you the last of his kind, a creature straight out a fairy tale... The one and only Gryphon!!!!” the spotlight died down and he vanished into the darkness hoping Carrick still remembered most of his stunts. The boy was always unpredictable at best.
Carrick’s large form folded it’s wings and snapped at the person riding him. They had spurrs. What a @@@@. His bird like beak opened and he chirpped once before hearing the singing again and his eyes glossed back over. He was performing. He almost forgot.
Spurrs aside Carrick lowered and let out a loud roar before charging out feeling the spotlights on him. Once it was following him he snapped his wings open mid run and leapt into the air belting out a screech and turning while the rider hang on. His heart was racing, he could hear the ‘awe’ , some were screaming ‘look’ while someone Carrick was tempted to dive bomb called him a ‘fake’. This was what he lived for, an audience.
The shifter ignored her need to correct his English, he spoke it, read it and could write it.... okay he was pretty sure he could still write it no problem. He hadn’t picked up a so much as an eraser in a week it was a point of pride now and he hated to ruin the streak.
”Oh you dated her too?” he shook his head, ”Man, it just keeps getting better!” he rolled his eyes and threw up his hands. Nothing he could do about it now. ”Wise and nobal... sums me up just right.” he said puffing out his chest and putting his hands on his hips giving him a ‘Peter Pan’ look when he flew.
He was going to ask about the maze more and who was dumb enough to try and keep someone in a maze. They always had a way out, up. He was going to but the comment about her shooting caught his attention. ”Ya dense?” he asked grinning, ”It’s a school... fer kids! Whatare ya? Me father?” he asked shaking his head, ”Bet they were pretty upset. Was it the iceman that caught ya? Detention or his ‘training’?” Carrick used air quotes. Punching and kicking wasn’t exactly a punishment. Only if he was forced to do it sober.
”Oh?” he got distracted by her next comment about wanting to fly. ”Ya sprout wings?” he asked knowing that they were the only way to ‘fly’. He circled her over head and laughed, ”Does have it’s advantages, bit annoying flying over shiny stuff though.” he said tapping the side of his eyes.
”Not supposed to use the Danger Room fer a bit, they said I made too many of me and they were a pain to get rid of.” he said smirking spotting a squirrel in a tree across the grounds. His stomach growled at it then he looked back to her. ”Not my fault people can’t handle that much perfection.” he said. He couldn’t either. They were @@@@s.
The shifter gave a little nod when she started laughing, ”Yes?” he answered shrugging shoulders mid step not giving her the whole truth. ”Used to. Then I used to be only human to.” he said looking back and watching his tail making sure it looked right with the rest of his dancing. ”I’ve ripped enough pants in me life not to worry too much about it. Most people are gonna gawk at the Irishman whose got wings and a tail. Figure I’d at least give ‘em a show! Just ideally I don’t rip the pants.”
”Hop’nhead?” he said looking back to her quickly eyeing the steps his body still keeping pace but his movement rocking a bit while he studied. He raised his eyebrow, wondering if he could do something with his wings if he was supposed to break it up a bit.
His tail flicked behind him, ”Feet together, hop, bro/chick/whatever, what, ****” he said counting the steps. Then responded with a little wave of his hand, ”Me? Never, was taught ta flush.” leaning back and then jumping his wings opened slightly and then snapped them back in mirroring his feet as he hopped.
He grinned rocking his shoulders a little more gave a nod to Raine, ”Like what?” he smirked then mocked a version of the face she just gave him. He attempted the change she did a second before but it was thrown off from one of his wings trying to keep pace. Carrick dragged a foot in response trying to compensate for his wing slowing him. He laughed keeping his hands above his elbows he was learning and he was having fun.
”Step n’ touch!” he announced going back into the dance. ”Didn’t know I was learning from a pro, fer how long? What night! Hit a party got some handouts, then I actually learn something I can use in the real world!” he said snapping his fingers rocking back and forth. There was no shame on the dance floor.
”Help yerself, to the booze. Been wanting a top hat since before the wings, so it’s spoken for.”
Was someone telling Carrick he needed to take breaks from being productive? He flashed his pointed teeth in a grin and then agreed he needed to take more breaks. ”Ya should have a conversation with me teachers then.” he said with a little laugh his tail flicking behind him as he was still trying to figure out how Xavier was flying without wings.
Carrick’s body bobbed up and down as Xavier rotated midair. ”So if I give ya a fiver you can fly between me and whatever else you want? Or would I be carrying you around as well?” he asked wondering if it was similar to Raine’s powers. ”I’d win in a race...” he said puffing out his chest a little bit. While his human side and beast side didn’t really care who was the fastest flyer in the city his Gryphon form demanded everyone knew. So said the annoying voice in the back of his head.
The Irishman grinned more when it was clear that it was going to be a never ending process for Xavier. What was the story about the cricket pushing a bolder up a hill?
Carrick gasped, ”Ya got permission to Jaywalk!?!” he tried to look offended. ”and a trainee no less. Some could argue yer abusing yer power.” Carrick shook his head and flapped twice till he landed back onto the ledge where he sat again.
”Second time around’s a bit easier even got me a girlfriend this time around.” he had one last time but this time around he was almost ninety percent sure the Princess wasn't going to take off like Liz did. She even told him as much. ”Rules pretty much the same too.” he said kicking his legs back and forth over the ledge. ”Makes it easier to ignore them.” he smirked.
After some intense hoping around he could feel his toes again, unfortunately that meant he could also feel the toe he stubbed earlier. The shifter’s mismatched colored eyes fixed on the toe then to the voice of the woman behind him sitting and eating while he was busy putting on a show. How long was she there? Was he just that oblivious to the world around him? Shifts had a tendency to put blinders on everything after he woke up in a strange place having no idea how he got there.
>>>"Rough day? Sleeping inside is usually a better idea then sleeping outside."
He overreacted and hopped back it was part of his character ”You have pink hair!” he said fighting the urge to point. ”Sorry, I thought we’re just stating the obvious today.” he smirked and looked down at himself in his ratted jeans, bare feet and dirt over his person. ”I mean, I woke up... that’s a start right?“ he said confidently until he looked around then decided to pinch himself for good measure. Usually his dreams involved the Princess more in some capacity and less... he sniffed the air, fish... usually in involved no fish.
”I even have a bed inside. Yet fer some reason, a dirt nap sounded more comfortable.” he sighed and shrugged his shoulders. His other forms all had their own thing and he found it was easier to let them do what they wanted. It made the voices less, noticeable. His sniffed the air again and progressed further into the kitchen.
Walking past the pink haired girl he looked at the food his stomach growled, ”What’s fer... breakfast?” he asked knowing it was well past that time of day.
Carrick grinned and nodded to the gems scattered around them raising an eyebrow. ” Well looks like I'm on ya then.” clearly proud of himself. His tail flicked behind him.
”Still sure I was looking out for ya on the first one. Second one I went willingly. Otherwise I’d risk ruining the date. Got me first kiss from ya that night.” he said bragging and pretending he didn’t almost have a panic attack. He studied her for a moment trying not to think about how dumb he was before. This was awesome.
”Moooost of the time I don’t get brought in fer questioning” he made sure not to say kidnapped. She wasn’t wrong but he didn’t want to admit she was sorta right. ”Usually I get meself out of situations without too many lumps.”
>>>"You are past the point of pet. People don't usually sleep with their pets."
”Had to make me stand.” he said flashing his teeth in a grin then lifted his chin, ”Cages n’ collars not fer me.” he looked down at her hand when she scratched his shoulder and started purring his face turning red.
”That an invite?” he chuckled, ”Or is it back to class?” he added pulling the blanket over them.
”That’s right champ... clear the evil... get the poison outta ya.” he said giving himself a pep talk. The shifter dry heaved in the corner of his cage where he already spewed from earlier. ”One last show... then ya can sleep it off...” he caught a wiff of some garbage or a porta-john. ” Oh that’s the on-hurrrrrrphhh!!!!”
A few minutes later Carrick stood wiping his mouth on his arm shaking it off. ”Like a champ.” he took a pull from the cigar and exhaled trying to get rid of the taste of vomit. He looked back at the food wondering if he should scarf some more before he went on. “O’Conner, sssssssoooo nicessss to meet you, heard sssssooooo much about you.”
The shifter looked to the vomit again and then inhaled through the cigar the ashes turning into a bright cherry red as he pulled. ”Sssssssorrryyyyy. Have we met?” he said trying to be funny as he sighed and turned towards the voice. The singing he could be heard again in the background and he ignored the woman with a weird lisp. It was closer now and he wanted to see who was singing because... what a voice.
Mismatched colored eyes fixed on the woman from last night the one who sang and the one whose voice he had been hearing in the back of his head. It was so beautiful even his beast form questioned it, ‘Mate?’ It also happened to be the source of the woman with the lisp.
Carrick was hungover and pretty sore from the night before but he turned on his swagger leaning into the bars his tail flicking behind him. He purred forgetting she had a snake like tongue that flicked at him, ”Been thinking about that voice all night, love. Hands down the best voice I’ve heard. Care ta sing ta me again before I go on and turn up the wow?” the Tarzan loincloth really help him pull off the confidence and the whiskey.
“I do need you at your bessst.” she said as she stepped forward into the light. The woman was wearing the same thing as last night which wasn’t anything to outstanding and her scaly complexion reflected the light as she got closer. He eyed her tongue flicking at him again and his pupils rounded and then glossed over. The purring grew louder from the shifter the closer she got. His eyes met her cold snake like eyes and he smiled flashing his pointed canines. She wasn’t normally the type of woman he went for but he seemed enamored. He was in love.
The snake lady opened her mouth and began to sing, “I need you in the besssst ssssshape tonight. You’re going to make ussss ssssoooo much money.” The shifter crouched down to get closer to her. ”Anything fer ya love, just name it. I’ll give ya the sun yer name till me dying days. Just... don’t stop singing.” she gave him a wide smile glad mutant hybrids were so easy.
She unlocked the cage and Carrick dropped the bottle of whiskey and the cigar into the pile of hay below him zonked out of his mind. He was in love what did he care? The shifter hoped out of the cage and followed the love of his life to the door into the big top. “You’ll know what to do when you go out there. Just put on the besssst ssssshow you’ve ever done and I’ll ssssssing to you. All you want.” she said smiling more while her tongue flicked at him.
”Sure thing.” he said lifting his thumbs up now concerned for his cue. The singing still giving him a stupid grin on his face.
In the big top another ringmaster walked out, one Carrick didn’t recognize. “Ladies and Gentlemen.... Welcome to the best show. Where all our performers are up for grabs....” the lights dimmed and the music started. Meanwhile Carrick clapped like an idiot waiting for his cue the singing still echoing in his head.
No one was that good. No one. The shifter didn’t trust it. All of his life he had known good people even those people would occasionally keep the money or let the doors shut. Xavier had an angle. Carrick wasn’t sure if he cared enough to figure it out yet.
The shifter’s gaze turned from Xavier’s not wanting to make eye contact for long. Was he challenging him? The voice in the back of his mind stirred, ‘Fight?’ Carrick ignored it like he always did. Fighting up here and with someone in the mansion wouldn’t help anyone. That and the guy was easily a twice the size of him. At least that’s how he felt.
Time... Carrick had more than most, having deaged he got a do-over on a lot of stuff. He however thought he could always use more so he could enjoy the little things, like sleeping on the grounds watching the clouds overhead next to the Princess. His tail flicked and he fought the purr that started to echo from his chest as he focused on the golf clap. At least Xavier knew a good show when he saw one.
”Oh? Something we have in common then!” he grinned his face turning a little red at the thought of her.
The shifter watched as Xavier vanished and Carrick looked over the edge following suit and let gravity take his legs over the edge. The shifter rolled off the building and snapped his wings open and flapped a few times so he could see Xavier lounging in the air. ”Ya know, some would argue yer wasting time with stunts like that.” he moved closer in the air and waved his hands behind and under Xavier to see if there was anything holding him up. Years of working at a circus made him skeptical.
”So how’s it work then? Ya touch something and ya float around it?” he smirked, ”What happens when the building changes due to renovations?” it was pretty common in the city. Carrick looked out and could see at least two cranes in the skyline.
