The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Why can’t it be both?” Carrick quipped flashing his pointed canines in a smile still folding his arms and flapping in the air. His tail flicked out behind him the way it does for a cat that is toying with someone. ”Oh, well that’s good. This here be mutant country.” he didn’t respond to big bird, it should have been an honor but Carrick had too many tendencies to do bad to be compared to him.
”Thanks,” Carrick added squinting his eyes to the man waiting till he was getting into his car. ”But it’s Bigfoot. If it was Canada it’d be a Sasquatch.” reaching into his pocket and removing his phone he raised his phone to the man’s vehicle and snapped a photo ignoring any of the repercussions.
People didn’t like getting photographed unless they wanted to. This time would probably be no different. Something about the man seemed off, so Carrick figured he’d piss him off before leaving.
The car engine roared and Carrick plugged his ears, his already sensitive hearing being an issue. ”****” he shouted flapping away, ”That’s a obnoxious overcompensation!” he chuckled to himself flapping a few more times before flying off back into the woods in search of the other mythical beast. Maybe his hearing would be back by then.

The thief’s eyes shifted from one point to another, he wanted the photo someone would pay money for it. Not Zek... but someone. Carrick had seen the shows, thought they were ridiculous but now would keep that secret with him to the grave now that he caught a glimpse.
The man spoke and the shifter eyed him curiously for a moment, that didn’t track. Carrick would have seen or heard him, smelled him at least in the woods while he was rushing over this way. Especially since he was on the lookout for the out of focus missing link. Not only that but for the man to be at the car before him. Either he could teleport or he was fast, like run faster than he was flying, fast. It had looked like he was leaving too. Big men like him didn’t move that fast usually.
His tail twitched behind him as the wings kept him off the ground, ”No disrespect?” Carrick questioned focusing on the tall... very tall man. ‘Fight?’ Ignoring his animal instincts he raised an eyebrow, ”Why would it be disrespectful?” Carrick then took the opportunity to mess with the man, it was clear he was a mutant or rather a ‘Gorgon’ as his girlfriend used to say.
Over acting the look of shock and disgust with the experience he had been accumulating for years, ”I’m sorry?” he folded his arms while still airborne flapping a little closer,”All mythical creatures mutants now?” he asked wondering if he should have shifted and really given the man a mythical show.
”Is it bad ta be a mutant now? So much ya got ta apologize fer it after?” he said his Irish accent seeping out of every word. Again, Carrick had perfected the act. So much so his fake irritation was alarming his animal like instincts even more. ‘Fight!’
”Heh no body.” he chuckled at the joke himself before shaking his head, if he was drinking anything he would have given Zek a spit take, ”20 ta 30 percent!?!” he asked aghast by the offer, ”I’d say 18 is being generous, not like you’d have trouble fitting it anywhere!” Carrick said gesturing outwards to... well everything.
The padlocks appeared and Carrick grabbed one to fumble with it and by doing so shifting his attention and position closer to where the lock was locked down. ”You can’t have nice things because their fragile and neither of us are skilled at keeping fragile things.” he said humming and pulling out a lock pick from his pocket. Yes he always had one nearby, just like his flash paper and guitar pick. Never know when you’ll need it.
The low ball joke got another chuckle out of the shifter as he looked to the icecream machine, ”Best kind of discount, though I’d have trouble moving something like that.” he smirked, knowing why he was friends with Zek. The thief loved the randomness he got with Zek.
”Guitars.” he summed up waving his hand, ”Never can last too long...” last one was stolen, the time before that was used as a weapon and the time before that... well shifted forms can’t play guitar. ”Saving a bit as well...” Carrick said chuckling now at the joke forming, ”Fer college.” he started laughing more at the idea of schooling after school.
”Got enough here.” Carrick said recalling the other Zek’s, ”Whole stadium worth... Can you make more mes?” he asked thumbing his chest wondering if Danger Room Carrick’s were the only ones who were impossible to control.
The shifters eyes moved from whiskers to bigfoot. One kept going, if it wasn’t for actually seeing the silhouette briefly or the branches and bushes moving Carrick would have been content to follow whiskers from overhead. He shouted and continued”I’ll bring ya a chicken carcass darling! I owe ya!” his tail flicked excitedly behind him throwing off his flight patterns a bit.
”Gonna make me rich! Buy all the shoes I want then!” if he didn’t spend it all on food, or guitars first. Clothes often didn’t make the list which was why a few of his toes were exposed to the cool breeze from flying. Socks didn’t last long. Besides, these were lucky socks.
Continuing on the path he got a little more altitude just to make sure he could see his target... well it would have been easier if he could actually get a lock on the big beasty. ”Come on! I just want a photo of ya! Slightly out of focus is preferred otherwise they won’t believe it’s you!” he shouted out hearing the echo.
Clearing the trees he spotted the road and glided down calling out so someone walking to their car door, ”Aye, mate! Did you see a bigfoot!?!” Carrick spotted the outfit and the gloves... was there going to be a dance off? Why did he not know about this?
”No? No one wants to man up? Take the blame fer the loss of me shoe? I only got one now!” Carrick growled and struggled to take it off and throw it at the empty pit where the smell started to fade from hoping it would hit whoever was there moments ago. Maybe they were invisible? No? The shoe hit the ground with a soft impact and he roared in anger.
”Now I have none! Fer **** sakes! Got to buy a new pair now!” shaking his fists to the sky Carrick was about to head back to the mansion to write a new song about his problems. Just what the world needed. The idea actually brought a smirk to his face. That was until he heard the growl of a big cat, and the sound of foliage moving. A lot. Some thing big was moving away from him.
‘Chase!’ the voice called out in the back of his mind and Carrick’s vision seemed to gloss over for a second as he had to investigate what the sound was. As he flew over the trees his eyes darted around for movement till he saw a big cat. Whiskers. That was the name Carrick had given it why? Because it had whiskers. Obviously. He had never come into contact with it, well he didn’t his Gryphon form did and they had a mutual respect to stay away from each other. Too large beasts, apex predators. No reason to fight, why bother?
”Whatcha chasing!?!” Carrick called out barefoot and flying knowing Whiskers wouldn’t answer. His eyes continued to move in front of the cat till he saw movement, it looked like a bush. Carrick gasped, Zek was right... there was a bigfoot near the school. ”Nu-uh!” he said allowed as he followed overhead. His shoes could wait. He needed a photo of the creature.
The chair vanished as it hit the ground in a flash of light, one that caused the shifter to avert his gaze. Enhanced vision and bright lights didn’t mix well especially in the dark. Thankfully it wasn’t in the dark so he only had to adjust for a second or two before diving back into his ice cream.
”Bit flashy.” he smirked nodding to the chair and then sitting in it after touching it once making sure it wasn’t going to vanish on him. ”Nice little trick though. I know who ta talk to if I need ta hide a body or some jewels.” he chuckled not being serious about the first one. He hoped he wouldn’t need to hide a body. Not again.
”What, don’t have any of the cash left over from the charlatan of a rapper?” he asked smugly. ”Spend it on an ice-cream machine?” he asked looking back to the device and topping off his frozen snack. Thinking about his own hoard and how much he had there. If only he had a reasonable fence that stopped giving his name out to those mystics.
”Could make it though right? Ya make everything else right?” he said swatting at the stuff on the desk knocking it off the table just to have it flash back to where it was seconds ago. ”Eh Danger Room is alright.” he said waving a hand with melted ice-cream on it.
”Hard to get the other mes to do anything though. Hardly realistic.” he joked, ”and I thought ya kept me around because you can’t fight or fly.”
The Irishman reluctantly went to go check out the other explosion. His school was also the headquarters for the X-men and half of his teachers were on the team of course he had to go check it out. Maybe get someone snapping a photo of him pulling someone out of a car. ‘Sorry I didn’t turn in my homework, I was saving someone. Oh, sure I’ll turn it in tomorrow.’
Even some of his friends would have given the shifter a hard time if he didn’t go make sure no one was in danger. ` ”What I get fer free room and board.” Carrick sighed to himself suddenly smelling the familiar burning smell of the drone. He looked back to where the drone was still smoking then the direction of the other explosion.
Did someone kill two of their own drones? ”Eejits. Least I know who to go to fer a new pair of shoes.” he chuckled to himself and few off towards the other explosion flying high above the trees to get a better look of the situation if he needed to he could always call someone from the mansion to help out. They loved helping, for free! Carrick didn’t understand it too much but knew he probably never would.
”Ah **** it smells!” Carrick shouted as he covered his nose the closer he got to the point on the hill where the smoke and smell was coming from. Carrick slowed as he got closer and looked around for any sign of anyone. ”Ah... I’m not gonna gave ta go in there am I?” he whined to himself knowing the smell was going to take forever to get rid of.
Carrick slowed as he lowered and approached the site. ”Someone owes me a pair of shoes!”
With the clowns gone Carrick was able to focus on other things like the fact that Zek was hiding a gem like this to himself for a period of time. Like... why ball him at all why not just send him here? He would have much rather been here than in a place that he couldn’t remember. This place had... Carrick eyed the zeks in the crowd then decided that this place had some cool stuff. A decent crowd would have been at the top of his list but he knew how hard it was to impress the ball boy.
The golf cart appeared and Carrick hopped onto the vehicle glad it was an open one. Sure he could have flown but why not experience everything this world of Zek’s had to offer. Even in Zek’s world he still felt off in enclosed small spaces.
The portal behind them closed and so did the feeling like he should be running or fighting now he was just focused on his hunger. Looking down to where the knife wounds were closing up he started to realize he was hungrier every time he was injured. Maybe... just maybe...
”I’ll take it!” he said distracted by the ice cream machine. ”So is this where ya go when ya aren’t starting trouble?” he asked realizing he knew little about his partner in mischief. Maybe it was for the best? Carrick turned under the ice cream machine and poured some into his mouth and then threw some sprinkles in there for good measure before feeling the brain freeze.
”What ya don’t have a fully staffed kitchen?” he asked finally after the dessert melted and he swallowed the contents before getting a cone and filling it. ”Seems ya got enough workers.” he said smirking then realizing they were all Zek’s much like his danger room clones he doubted they’d be easy to direct.
Carrick looked to his very much old naked self and tilted his head at his girlfriend who was piloting the body. Clearly off put by the whole shift thing. ”Bout as weird as bleeding rubies.” the former Irishman said lifting his forearm and palms up to her so she could examine the damage she had accumulated during the fight.
”Alright love?” he asked her very much aware his former body was stark naked and covered in blood in the middle of the city again. She couldn’t fly nor did she have the foresight to pack a change of clothes before they left the mansion. Carrick wouldn’t have had the need to shift against his brother he knew enough about fighting and his brother to know how to fight him however in this form he was glad she was here.
”Ya did great princess, who knew you could fight?” he said giving her a thumbs up and then looking down back to eyelevel with where he and Rhia were. ”Good fer you.” it was his body so he didn’t think much of it other than to stroke his own ego before he cracked a smirk then looked back to Rhia. Who quickly averted her eyes.
”What never seen wedding tackle before?” Carrick asked trying not to laugh at the concussed woman, ”Nothing to be ashamed about.” if he was in his own body he might have felt a bit more embarrassed because Amythest was around. Even if she seen him naked a few dozen times he still was awkward around her. OId habits.
”Wasn’t too much fun was it?” he said wishing he had a tail so she could see how annoyed he was at the situation. ”Gave ya a warning about him.” he said standing and offering the woman a bloody ruby encrusted palm to help pull her up. ”Can’t or won’t?” he asked looking back to his body who was naked. Carrick could have just flown away with Amythest in control that wasn’t a possibility. They needed open space for her to figure out how to fly. Here would be an accident waiting to happen.
”**** sakes...” he huffed. ”Stay here.” he told his body then looked to Rhia, ”Don’t go anywhere and keep an eye on her will ya?” he thumbed towards his body. ”And keep yer eyes focused upwards. Normally ya got to pay fer a show.” he said smirking as he walked back towards the bar entrance.
Even if they were kicked out they could have an apron or some article of clothing for his naked girlfriend. At least that way he wouldn’t have to explain to the moms why he was arrested for being naked in the streets.... again.
Carrick’s foot touched on the drone and he felt the thing drop out from under him and nose dive towards the mansion grounds if it wasn’t for his wings moving on their own from instinct he would have went down with it. ”What? Aye! I’m not that heavy!” everyone was a joker now these days!
The shifter was determined though, the thing was shiny. New looking. It had to be expensive no doubt one of the mansion kids had daddy dearest purchase it. All the more reason to go after it. ‘Prey! Chase!’ the thief’s instincts told him to chase after it and while he normally tried to ignore said instincts this was a slap in the face. Most of the kids knew to let him know about drones so he avoided them. Good luck if he was in his Gryphon form.
While his new toy was fast Carrick closed the speed pretty quickly and tried grab onto the thing making sure to avoid getting caught up in the propellers so he lodged his feet on the bottom which in turn caused them both to roll a bit into the air. His wings snapped open and the drone began it’s decent again pulling the shifter along with it.
”Come on! You’ll be put-” he turned his arm as one of the blades cut into it causing a small gash, if he left it there it would have been a lot more painful. ”Mother *******” he shouted in the air letting loose with the hand but still holding onto the thing. Blood sprayed in his face causing him to close his mismatched colored eyes for a moment. The propeller kept rotating and dragging them down.
”I was gonna put ya on the highest shelf!” his vision came back when he opened his eyes again, pupils turning to slits as everything in him screamed to kill said prey. Unbeknownst to Carrick, his shoe lace got caught in another propeller pulling his foot closer to one of the wings. Who needed to tie shoes when you flew everywhere?
”Hey! Leego!” he shouted to the device as he tried to pull his foot free the shoelace bound the wing and started to cause the thing to drift further away from the mansion slowing their decent as Carrick fought against it. ”Stupid! Piece of-” before he could fight any more with the thing he noticed how close they were to the ground.
‘Flight’
”I know!”
‘Prey’
”I ****ing know!”
‘Danger’
”**** ******* ***** *****” Carrick decided last minute to kick his shoe off and abandon said drone as it barely clipped the wall and crashed into a tree beyond it. The thing impacted with a crash and started to smoke instantly the air was filled with a pungent fragrance and he felt his stomach turn as he flapped a few times getting his bearings and raising himself in the process to escape the smell.
Now with one shoe he glided in the air. ”****ing rich kids.” he grumbled wondering why they wanted to smash their toy instead of try and buy it back from the shifter. That was when he saw smoke in the distance.
”The **** is going on today?” he said curious and now distracted from the fact that he just lost a shoe.
Bronzed wings warmed by the sun stretched out over the mansion grounds, the winged shifter hadn't flown this high in a while. For one it was cold and for two he hadn’t wanted to until someone asked him how high he could fly. To Carrick that was a challenge, an answer he had to figure out so he could brag about it later. ‘Can you fly that high? Can’t even fly? Shame.’
He already bragged about being the fastest flyer in the city, the race against Raine didn’t count, she just falls. It wasn’t that impressive everyone did it. Not everyone could fly though so it was important to test his limits at least when he wanted to. When Maya asked him it was just a bother.
Unfortunately for Carrick he didn’t have any way to measure how high he was other than the reference of the school and the roads and the houses. His enhanced vision made most of them pretty clear they were small to say the least from this height. The Irishman was circling now without realizing it over the school gliding on the winds until something caught his attention, ‘prey?’ his other forms instincts told him to investigate.
Investigate he did, and it was a good thing too! Someone in the mansion was flying a drone... in his airspace without paying him not to mess with it. That was dumb. The only thing that got a free pass was the mansion jet. The nerve of some rich kid. The shifter scoffed as he flew lower till he was eyelevel with it making sure to catch the cameras attention. Carrick waved cheerily then gave the finger.
”Yer flying in restricted airspace! I own it!” he shouted knowing no one could hear him. Sometimes he just liked the sound of his voice. ”I’m gonna steal ya and hold ya for ransom now! Ya look expensive! At least a few guitars!” he lowered a bit then pulled back catching the wind sending him up as he ready to pounce on the flying vehicle. Surely it couldn’t hold his weight.
Showboat wasn’t the worst name he could have been given in that moment so he just smirked and took off to the front of the mansion being careful to avoid the Sam the iceman as he leapt up and slide towards the city. It was a very inefficient way to cover ground. Couldn’t even compare it to flying.
Ignoring the ice slide still in existence he grabbed Himari’s backpack carrier he had when he was flying around the little black cat figuring while it wasn’t air tight he’d still be able to carry Praxi and her gelatinous form around the city without her getting smaller. What happened when she lost pieces of herself!?! Carrick started to imagine a tiny Praxi and chuckled at the thought. Adorable, that’s what she’d be.
When she arrived with the bag inside of her he looked at it then tossed the carrier/backpack off into the bushes. Not wanting her to think he overthought it because... that wouldn’t be cool and well Carrick had an image to maintain. It’s why he was able to garner the attention of a princess putting him in this situation to begin with.
”I know.” he said smirking. Everyone wanted to fly. Carrick only took those that were doing things for him flying. That or if he was close to them and there were only like... two people currently in the mansion he’d fly for free. ”Playing it cool.” he said smirking then thumbing behind him. ”n-Ice.” word play.
”So I’ll pretend yer not enjoying the flight then?” he asked curiously his tail flicking behind him as he gave her a toothy grin.
Lifting and studying the bag he stretched it a bit then out his teeth on it, mostly for a laugh but he was curious about it. ”A date,” Carrick said lifting the bag and looking under it, ”A ditch date. Ta be more exact,” he elaborated further, ”A ditch date ta go shopping fer holiday gifts.”
Last year Amethyst and him got closer around Christmas. They even kissed. His first one since Liz that he remembered. The shifter started to purr for a second thinking about his first kiss with the princess then he cleared his throat playing it off.
”Need a woman’s approval, an Atlantean one ta be more exact. Never know what ta get someone that has everything, or can buy anything. Never had that growing up so fer me it’s easy ta shop for. I’m but a simple Irishman. Ames on the other hand... mystery.” he said smirking trying not to make eye contact when he talked about her because he could feel his cheeks warm up. Against popular belief the shifter did in fact blush.
”So I figured I’d take ya out, buy ya lunch and you can give me yer opinion on stuff Atlantean women find interesting. I know yer from two different worlds but, it’s a bit closer to hers than mine.” they were born on the same... continent? Island? Maybe he shouldn’t have skipped geography.
”Can ya breath in this?” he finally asked opening the bag for her to get in.
”Back up love.” he said to his beast form girlfriend who was starting to sniff Rhia who was now just coming too. ”Boundaries right?” he asked repeating something he always tired to think whenever he was in that form. Beast form and Gryphon form didn’t care much for personal space. Everyone should feel blessed just being around him. Something that might also be Carrick’s way of thinking.
She opened her eyes and Carrick debated another slap... just to make sure.
”He wasn’t driving.” Carrick said ruining her joke. ”At least I don’t think he was. After ****in himself and getting chewed up by this handsome devil he ran off with his nonexistent tail between his legs. He’ll probably heal up and call da. Just be happy ya didn’t switch with him. He would have probably tried killing ya.” Carrick said as his smile faded.
”How ya feeling blondie?” Carrick asked holding up his middle finger to her, ”How many fingers ya see?” he asked now smirking. If she had a brain injury she could always go see Doc right?
”Pretty sure you owe us one now...” he said lowering his finger then pointing to his worst form and the body he inhabited. ”Saved yer life. Even after ya swapped us.” he said bragging.
Usually he checked back pockets for wallets and other things people genuinely wanted to keep save. Carrick however would have never been able to find this. Even if he did he wouldn’t know what to do with it... actually... Carrick threw his hands up and waved to all the other Zeks in victory. Of what he didn’t know but knew he liked the attention of large crowds even if they were Zeks. The shifter hoped they were more entertained than Zek normally was with his antics.
”Mate... you know how to put on one hell of a show!” the shifter said ignoring the holes in his hands that were currently closing up as he waved knowing a majority of them were ignoring him. Carrick followed the wave then saw the sky writing wondering how high his little portal world went and instantly wanted to test his flying in it to see if it was like flying in the outside world.
”Is this where I go when ya ball me!?!” he asked curiously never able to remember it. Maybe with this many Zek’s and the lack of attention they were giving him specifically he tried and blocked it out. Carrick looked around for some balls to juggle, with a crowd this big he wanted to get them to cheer for him.
The flashes of golden fireworks distracted him for a few moments before he looked to Zek, ”Mate, I’m always hungry.” not as much as Zek apparently but the shifter was a fan of ice cream. ”Always got a sweet tooth. Lead the way!” his tail twitched behind him as his pupils opened up more revealing how excited he was to explore this place.
The beast form nudge his hand and he looked at the nails on it feeling weird it wasn’t covered in fur at the moment. ”Whose a good girlfriend? You are! Yes ya are!” Carrick patted the beast on the head and scratched behind the ears glad it wasn’t trying to flee. Maybe she did have some control over the shifted form.
Carrick was kind of jealous. It took him years to try and control the creature he shifted into and the princess seemed to have it down enough to not run and maul someone. He wouldn’t talk later. It only inflate the princess’s ego.
”Oh **** that’s right, blondie.” Carrick sighed and snapped his finger. ”You stay close to me, eh?” looking to beast form and trying to make eye contact. It was unnerving being on this side of the shift knowing how unpredictable it could be. That was when he thought of it. The only thing that helped him control the angsty beastie, and he happened to be piloting it.
”Come ‘on.” he reached down and grabbed it’s hand holding it in his. ”It be great if ya could shift back fer me.” he batted his eyelashes a little bit then leaned into the beast form. ”This form is great but I's so loud, yer other form might deal with the sounds better.” he said trying to flatter the creature as they walked over to the limp form of Rhia. He was still a little mad at her so there wasn’t really a rush.
Once they got closer to the limp form of Rhia he bent over and slapped her face a bit. ”Oi, wake up.” he looked for signs of injury around her head hoping he wasn’t going to have to call his moms to report a dead body. Where was his phone?
