The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Celeste watched Marisol's face closely at her informing her that they could be best friends. She was worried she may have stepped a line - what if Marisol didn't agree? Maybe Marisol didn't even want to be her friend? She had dumped a lot on poor Marisol pretty quickly... Several times in their friendship.
She watched Marisol's big grin and took a mental sigh of relief. She agreed. She was happy to be her friend. Celeste had a huge smile and put her arm in a half hug around Marisol and gently knocked her head on hers, "Good! I'm glad you think so. I don't have any best friends, either, but I couldn't think anyone else I'd rather be besties with." She squeezed her shoulder before letting her go. It was good she had someone to relay upon and she hoped Marisol knew that she would be there for her, too, "You know, if you ever need anything or anything happens, I got your back 110%." She gave the younger woman a smile. Celeste had been going through some stuff. Marisol, ever since she got here, had been a constant for Celeste. She had made it so much easier to get through. Celeste just hoped that Marisol would know she'd always be her friend and always be there for her own personal situations.
She nodded slowly and took a deep breath. That was fair. Give up her past, piece by piece. She could switch it later. No reason to rush and maybe they would reach out. Maybe. Plus, what if her sister needed her? If she ended up manifesting and her parents did what they did to her to Isabel, she'd need to be there for her. But that was a different time. And with that she nodded towards the worker. "Um, yes, please transfer my number. I'll keep it for now." Now it was just waiting for that to be completed - it shouldn't take too long but it gave her some time to think about the phone she was getting, "So... I've actually never had a smart phone before. Recommended apps?"
Celeste sighed and scanned the green park, appreciating it's beauty. It'd be turning into a bunch of colors soon as fall approached. That would make it even more beautiful. It was a good day to go through the park.
>> “Fighting poverty should be a key goal for any government, let alone humanity at large. You’re right that education helps to do so, The real problem is how do you actual feed the world, ensure a safe home, healthcare… And then make education readily available. You’ve got to promise survival and basic needs before many will worry about education.”
She nodded but smirked. It was getting better, but governments still weren't doing enough to address it, at least not globally. She didn't have a lot of optimism that the governments of the world would make it so people would be fed, have a home, and have decent healthcare. Heck, the U.S. couldn't even get it's people healthcare. That was one thing she missed about Canada - not having to worry about breaking a leg or something.
>> “The META bots are there for societal safety, but nothing’s perfect as we hear regularly in the news. I’ve had a few problems with them. Advanced should mean better at handling problems with less errors, safer standards, but I think we both know there will be more advanced dangers too. Knowing where they came from and who’s programming them is important"
She nodded. As far she could tell, Canada didn't have META bots. She wasn't even sure if other cities or countries had them. "It was an anonymous donor, right? Does any other cities or countries have them? They are very buggy... Does the police even know who did it?" She thinks she remembered noticing a police announcement that they did, but she honestly couldn't remember. She bit her lip as they walked, "And what about the rip? Do you have any idea what is going on the other side? What kinda timeline they have?" It gave her goosebumps to think there might be another her on the other side.
>> “And back to education, yes I think more schools like Xavier’s will come to be. It’s a matter of time. I hope more higher places of learning will cooperate to make that possible. Universities doing so is a start. Might I ask what you’re planning to study here?”
She nodded. That was good to hear, "Maybe universities will start setting up their own ones?" She turned a little red. When she first moved here from Canada, she had known what she wanted - but now that she was here and with all the changes, she had no idea what she wanted to do. "I... Originally, before I moved here, wanted to be a radiologist." She rubbed the back of her hair, sighing, "But now, I'm not really sure. I've thought... About a few other fields, but I'm not sure what I'd really fit into." She shrugged slightly.
Celeste thought today was going to be like any other day - she didn't work until the evening shift, she had a volunteer shift at the library at 2, and she had classes beginning at 10am. It was a bit early, but she had woken up due her usual nightmares around 6am. She spent her early morning mainly cooking some breakfast for her and Norma, studying for one of her upcoming quizzes, and bugging people through her new iPhone - even though they totally weren't awake. Marisol Cervantes and Jude were going to have lots of funny memes when they woke up. She felt bad for blowing their phones up, especially at 6:30 in the morning, but she hadn't had a smart phone before. It was a whole new experience to her. Browsing the internet, she'd already joined ViewTube (and watched some of Booker's channel,) got herself back into MyFace, she even decided to download Speedigraph and see how it was. She was a bit... Bored with it, though. But browsing the internet, taking all sorts of selfies, ShutterTexting, she was all into it.
At 7am, she decided to get ready for the day and by 8am, she had picked out a simple outfit of a pale pink sweater, a white shirt, and a light shade blue jeans with some rips in them. It was simple, comfortable, and business casual - kinda, anyways. She thought it'd be a fine outfit to wear to the library during her little shift. She peered out of her room, expecting Norma to be up by now but she hadn't heard a peep from her old roommate. That wasn't something she expected. Norma had a very set routine. Celeste tiptoed over to Norma's bedroom door and knocked softly. When no noise came from the room, she slowly opened it. Norma was laying in her bed, looking so peaceful. Too peaceful. Celeste perked a brow and ran over to her quickly and tried to read a pulse, she put her ear close to Norma's mouth and nose... But nothing. She had passed away. Immediately, Celeste dialed 911 who promptly came over.
The police asked her a few questions, mainly about how she had found her. The two police officers then informed her of the next steps:
"Well... We won't be running an autopsy because of her age - the paramedics already believe it was from either a heart attack or a stroke. We won't know more until they get her to the hospital. Do you know any of her family? She doesn't seem to have any records here of anyone. We'll put a missing woman report out but she'll be at the morgue until then... If no one claims her after a while, we'll have to cremate her." Celeste shook her head, unsure. Norma had never talked about her family. The police officer nodded, "Unfortunately, you're going to have to leave. This was her apartment and the landlord found out you weren't on the lease due to all this and he has asked us to escort you out. Do you think you can get all your things together in an hour?" He paused, clearly sorry for the now homeless girl, "I'm sorry about this..." He patted her shoulder. All she could do was nod and went to pack her things up. She had no where to go, but she'd figure it out... Somehow.
The younger police officer gave her his phone number and his address, if she wanted to bunk with him for a few nights - which was... Creepy. And didn't help Celeste at all given her situation.
Celeste was still in shock, really. She couldn't believe Norma had died. She couldn't believe she was getting kicked out literally a couple hours later. She couldn't even believe she had to dial 911 on her brand new freaking phone. She lost Norma, her apartment, and an entire day of school, volunteer, and work. Not to mention, a police officer pretty much just offered her a place to live, albeit for a little bit, for some booty booty. That was what it seemed like, anyways. Celeste packed her bags and head out the door. The police officer asked where she'd like to be dropped off and the only place she could think of was, of course, the library. Her refuge and her sanctuary from the world.
She sat in the chair in the library, her eyes watery. She had found the perfect chair and she moved it so it was away from most people and looked out a nearby window. She could see some of the people walking on the streets below, the large skyscrapers in the sky. Her eyes had finally betrayed her as she had sat there. She had picked up a box of tissues on the way over. She had already been through at least half of the box and her poor purse was fill of used tissues. Gross. What else was she supposed to do with them? She had no where else to put them. All the emotions hit home pretty quickly. She clenched the book in her hands, Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience. She wasn't even sure why she chose that book. She nearly chose the Bible, but that was just too serious for her. That made it all too real. She just sat there, staring ahead clutching the book, her suitcase in front of her. What was she going to do...?
Celeste appreciated the work some of these performers did. It was something Celeste never could do. They made people believe in something more than just the day-in-day-out life. It was something that made people want to actually live a little. Everyone was so use to a routine - wake up, work, bed, it was nice for her and others to get that little dose of mystery.
Celeste couldn't really believe her eyes as he performed a couple more tricks. How in the world did he do that? Honestly, if she wasn't a woman of some reasonable science, she'd actually believe he was magical. It wasn't something that Celeste had ever really even seen until now - her home town didn't really have that much of street illusionists.
>> "Thank you. You've been a great audience. And how about a hand for my wonderful volunteer?"
The crowd clapped and let out small cheers, heck even Celeste clapped. It was remarkable to see those kind of illusion tricks. She'd wager most of the people watching had never seen anything like it before, either. And Celeste was even a part of it. That was a memory all in itself.
Celeste nodded as he tapped her shoulder. Her role was done, it was time to leave. The rest of the crowd began to disperse and head their own ways. Some looked clearly depressed about going back to their usual way of life.
>>"Before you go can I have my watch back, darlin'?"
Celeste stopped on her heels and perked a brow. She looked towards him then pulled her wrist of her chest, before taking a look at his watch. She grinned wide and kept her brow arched, "Only if you tell me how you did that without me knowing." Ha! Blackmail! Blackmail that wouldn't work but for a single threat. She actually needed her watch to keep track of the time for her medication every 6 hours. But hey, he didn't know that.
Celeste watched Maya's face intently as she tried the cake. Upon seeing that she was actually enjoying it and not just lying to her, she nodded. Ha! But then Maya had to bring up the portraits.
>> "Draw me like one of your French girls? I mean, face is fine. If it helps you with the homework. Maybe, portrait with cake? Slice of life?"
Celeste laughed and walked over to her art stuff and grumbled under her breath. She turned back towards Maya and gave out an exasperated sigh. Although, she did end up laughing at Maya's 'slice of life' joke. That was pretty funny and she was a beautiful person, pie or no pie. Celeste chewed her lip for a moment, "Okay... I can, but... You have to promise you won't hate me because it's going to turn out awful."
Celeste chuckled at Marisol's confession about her food. She particularly loved how she threw in the whole 'cheat day' statement. Celeste was, at least for now, thankfully blessed with a pretty active metabolism - maybe it had something to do with the 5,000 rads booming through her body at all times? Who knew. In either case, she tried to make a mental promise to herself to not force Celeste into any food she was uncomfortable or didn't want to eat, so with a smirk, "Well.. I love eating and half the time it's not the best food... And I'm a bad influence with it but just tell me to shut up about it and I will." Hopefully Mari wouldn't ask her to diet with her because Celeste just wasn't sure if she had it in her - she'd be more than happy to exercise with her. Well... So long as it's not dancing, at least.
Celeste was so glad Marisol came with her - honestly, Celeste knew this would be much more painful if she went by herself. She knew she could do it by herself but it was really nice to have a good friend with her. That is really what Marisol has become. She and her have only known each other for a little bit of time but it feels like they connected almost instantly that day when she first showed up in the diner. They were definitely good friends, probably on their way to best friends. Well, at least that is what Celeste thought. She'd never thought of herself as having a best friend before - lots of friends, sure, but a best friend, someone she could rely upon? That wasn't something she had planned. It was something she hoped for, of course, and here it was - developing before her eyes.
She smiled, "I think we're pretty good friends! Maybe even besties!" She semi-joked, gauging Marisol's reaction. Maybe that was overdoing it a little bit? Either way, she meant it. She thought they were good friends, well on their way to become best friends.
She nodded as she listened to Marisol explain the difference between them. And then her little extra piece of FaceTiming. Celeste figured she'd get an iPhone anyways - she had always liked them a bit more, plus she really liked that rose gold color they had. She thought it was a beautiful phone, "Well... iPhone it is, then!" Once she found a worker, she began to get her information entered so hopefully she could do a payment plan. Luckily for her, she was eligible for it with a small down deposit. With that out of the way and some more paperwork, it was time to make the decision: should she keep her number or change it? "I can change it, later? If I keep the one I currently have? Or is it stuck for like ever...?" The worker shook his head, "If you want to change the number, just let us know. We can change it."
She looked over to Marisol, her expression clearly looking for her opinion. She trusted Marisol's judgement - ultimately, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. It was really pushing off the inevitable - but what if...?
Celeste couldn't help but laugh at his comment before nodding, "Imagine me robbing a bank. Hands up! I'm rad girl, the evil irradiated villain. I'll make you all throw up!" She paused for a moment, considering how awful of a villain she'd be. She shook her head, "Yeah, that's never going to happen." finished putting away her binder, pencils, and colored pencils into her book bag and stood up. She slung it over her shoulder and slipped her purse on her shoulder too.
>> ”I think you’ll appreciate your choice. You just have to make it through the semester and girls like Mariah first, and I’ll do what I can to help make that easier.”
She nodded more seriously. She thought she would appreciate the college choice, too. But he was right - she had another 3 months left of Mariah. He offered to help her so she gave a smile and nodded. At least she knew Mr. Holloway had her back if something did happen with Mariah. And maybe Mariah would have some type of epiphany and realize how much of a do**che nozzle she had been. Maybe.
>> ”Alright, Celeste. I think I’ve kept you here long enough. But if you ever need to talk, my office hours are posted on my door, which is always open,”
She nodded and checked her watch. Yikes. She probably had kept him way over time when he should be at home. She nodded, "Thanks, Mr. Holloway." She went over and gave him a quick, friendly hug, "You're a awesome teacher, by the way." With that, she left the room to finish up her day.
She grinned and grabbed a plate from one of the cabinets. She cut a slice from each of the cakes she currently has and offered it to Maya, "Try these. They should be amazing."
>>"God, no. I suck at all that. But I make a stunning nude model?"
Celeste perked a brow and laughed, "Alright, Rose, I think all he's looking for is the face but if you want, we can go all the way." It would look awful, but if that is what she wanted, she mine as well take a model while she could get one. She bit her lip for a moment, in thought, and finished her current bakery project. Slipping it into the oven and putting the timer on, she nodded towards Maya. "But uh... Only if you have time and stuff."
Celeste honestly couldn't wait to pass by the food court - she was really craving a cinnabun and some ice cream now. Luckily, Celeste was blessed with a high metabolism so food didn't effect her too much. And she loved food in general. Celeste could smell the food from the other customers of the mall. Man, that cheese steak sandwich looked really good. She shook her head, though, because he was doing a very bad job at eating it. Passing by some of the other stores, Celeste sighed. She really needed to get a new laptop - she missed playing games. It was a good distraction and actually let her relax her mind. Reading books was amazing, but they were really intense sometimes.
>> ”Definitely sounds like worst case to me. So disappointing,”
Celeste laughed and nodded, "It is a travesty. Anyways, what kinda food do you like to eat? It looks like you eat pretty light most of the time. I've seen your salads, little sandwiches, and some eggs before." She was trying to remember some of the other meals that she had seen Marisol eat before but was coming up on a blank really, "I mean, it seems pretty healthy. Anything on the dark side?" Celeste figured Marisol might be touchy on her weight, especially considering she was a dancer, but Celeste loved food. Hopefully, she wouldn't drag her into too much trouble.
Celeste hated the sob story she just gave to Marisol, but she didn't want to lie to her friend about her reasoning. It didn't 'really make much sense for her to be upset over losing something as small as a flip phone. Even Celeste realized how stupid it was, but it was just the feeling. Irrational, for sure, but the feeling that their was any chance of a relationship for her parents was suppose to die when she got rid of the phone - not because it fell into a puddle of water but because she chose to get rid of it. It was going to be her test for her new life - when things were finally settled, she could be done with Regina.
But life didn't go as planned, as usual. And Celeste should have prepared herself for the possibility of it breaking, so with a defeated look on her face, she accepted what was coming next - she had to get a new phone. At least she'd finally be in the modern world - smart phone, with apps, cameras, all that techy stuff. It was exciting if it wasn't for the rest of the details. She could get a MyFace, finally watch Booker B. Bookman ViewTube channel, maybe even try out that chirpr thing or speedigraph. Hey, at least she could get a ShutterText and use all the fun filters.
She felt Marisol's hand grab hers and give it a squeeze. It was reassuring and made Celeste smile towards her. Celeste already had a couple tears forming, partially due to the reality of the situation but to how Marisol responded to her. She didn't say they would reach out, she just said she was sorry and hoped for the best. That's all anyone could do, really. Hope for the best. She wiped her eyes carefully. She squeezed Marisol's hand back and nodded. "Thanks, Marisol. I'm really glad you were able to come with me. I'd probably a bit of a mess if you weren't, honestly."
She grinned and let out a quiet laugh before nodding, "Well, of course! There is no doubt about that." Celeste was lucky she had made such a good friend at the diner - and she was really glad her and Marisol had become friends when they did. All of this would be tremendously harder for her without Marisol.
Once they were inside the store, Celeste looked at the new Samsungs and iPhones and all in between. She really wasn't that sure to get, "Um... What do you recommend?" She asked towards Marisol, leaning over as she messed with a Samsung 8.
Celeste smiled. She was actually pretty happy in these moments. She definitely hadn't planned for the day to turn out the way he had, but she was really glad she showed up to the mansion today. And that he was there.
>> "I'll have to build up a tolerance somehow."
Celeste blushed deeply. She nudged him bashfully, "Well, you'll have plenty of time to build up that tolerance, then." Did he actually want to kiss her? Well, not now, but eventually? That was exciting and a little terrifying - when was even the last time she had kissed someone? She had to have been 16 or so. And that was pretty... Interesting experience, to say the least. In either case, it was pretty clear they liked each other - they had practically been fawning over each other since
>> "I think it's the little bacon bits. That's weirdly chewy. Or maybe too smokey? There's a hint of smoke in there."
She made a gross looking face towards the ice cream. It definitely wasn't something she would buy. It was definitely the bacon, at least in her opinion. Maybe it was both? Smokey and bacon? She shrugged, "I think it's both."
She smiled as she licked up her strawberry and vanilla, "It's super basic but it's delicious. Want a taste? It'll give you some more cooties, fair warning, though." She grinned and held it over for him, well, if he wanted to get rid of the smokey, bacon taste. Personally, she wasn't a fan the more she thought about it.
She stared at the guys running towards them. Was it only them or was there more? She felt like there might have been more but she wasn't entirely sure. She squinted to try to see their faces better but they were still too far away. She glanced over to the other woman, unsure of what she might do - was she a mutant? Celeste felt confident she was. What would her mutation be? Actually, she probably didn't even know if she was a mutant or human. With that in mind, Celeste quickly began to charge her arms as they lit up, sparkling in the light of the street lamp. She glanced over to the woman, "I can shoot them with radiation. It'll make them pretty sick." She was ready for a fight if need be. Celeste was really glad she had chosen sneakers for the day.
The men were quickly closing in on them - and she heard more footsteps from behind her. It looked like about 2 more were heading their way from the way Amber had come and 2 more were coming from the street across from them. This wasn't good - they were pretty much cornered. Celeste bit her lip. Even with her powers, she wouldn't be able to take 7 guys. She could probably get enough to knock down a few of them before they got too close to them.
Celeste rolled her eyes at his comment. Playthings? Was that really the best thing they could come up with against the two of them? Radiation girl and... Well, whatever powers the woman beside her had? A few moments later, the leader pulled out what looked like machete, he called out, "A couple sick muties from the mansion, eh?" As the rest of the men got closer, it looked like most had knives - except one had a shotgun. Celeste couldn't believe he'd actually brought a shotgun to a knife fight. How did he expect to not his friends when they were trying to shank her and the mysterious woman near her? Celeste aimed carefully and shot a single flare towards the man, hoping to whatever deity was there, that it'd hit him. They could fight a knife fight but a shotgun bullet isn't going to be good for her, the woman, or any of the bigots coming towards them.
And luckily, she hit him. He went down in fits of vomit with the shotgun hitting the ground quick. The other men apparently didn't seem too interested in the shot gun, but they definitely sped up. Celeste needed to recharge & fast. She looked over to the woman. Hopefully she had more combat experience than Celeste did - the only thing Celeste really knew how to do was whack people with rad flares.
Celeste was, to be frank, a bit nervous about the situation she found herself in - a magician or trickster or whatever they're called magic trick. She had never even seen magic tricks before, let alone been apart of one. The guy seemed friendly, though, so so long as he wasn't putting her in a box and cutting it in half, she was relatively happy about being part of the show.
>> "It's nice to meet you, Celeste. I'm Dan, and I'll be your friendly street illusionist today."
She smiled and nodded as she moved forward with his guidance, "It's a pleasure." So a street illusionist, that's what he was doing. Illusions. That made sense - probably more so than magic. She was glad she heard that before she called him a magician, honestly. What if there was bad blood between the two groups? Potential awkward situation. He also didn't seem to be homeless, or at least he didn't smell like he was homeless.
She held her hand out for him so he could drop the paper clip in her palm. She followed his instructions to the T. She made a tight fist and flipped her hand around. She nodded and let out a laugh with the crowd as he moved his hand up each forearm. That was a pretty funny joke too. Maybe a street illusionist comedy guy should be his official title?
She stared at his eyes and did her best to focus on the paper clip in her hand. She wasn't exactly sure how she was suppose to concentrate on a paper clip, but she was gripping it harder than usual.
>> "Turn your hand back over and open your fist."
Celeste nodded and slowly turned her hand over and opened her fist - it was gone. And it was in his hand. Celeste let out a small gasp. She shouldn't have been too surprised - he probably did tricks like this all the time, but it was still amazing to do whatever he just did. She gave him a little clap.
She grinned and nodded, "One more couldn't hurt." The crowd was dropping some money for him and practically begging for another trick.
She watched the boys reaction about her question. He had no idea. Which was fine, she wasn't entirely expecting an answer but she was hoping for something to trigger in his mind.
"Order up!" Celeste grabbed their food and took them to a nearby table, sitting his food down first and then hers. She took a seat and gave him a smile, "Hmm... Maybe you're... 13? Maybe 12. I don't think you could be 14, though." She really only had his height to go by - his current face didn't give much indication, at least to Celeste, what his age could be. She took a bite of her pretzel and gave him a smile, "Well, what do you want to be when you grow up?"
She nodded slowly, accepting Maya's unique term of her procrastination, "Yeah, I suppose you can say that." She sighed and rubbed her eyes and looked at her creations then to her homework, "I've been trying to finish that stupid thing. I'm literally copying it from a book. It just keeps turning out horrible." She motioned to a nearby trash can that was full of paper. Honestly, Celeste was eventually going to run out of drawing paper and she was a bit surprised she hadn't already.
She sighed and looked at her cakes and cookies, "Plus, I'm really good at this." She motioned towards all the sugary goodies. She looked towards Maya and sighed, "Are you good at artsy stuff?"
Celeste still had those moments of quasi-culture shock - how did she actually manage to end up in NYC, the cultural hub of the United States? It was the place of movies, good and bad. When she walked the streets, surrounded by skyscrapers, the feeling seemed to never go away. Maybe it was because her hometown didn't really have skyscrapers - they had taller ones, but nothing like New York Cities skyscrapers. Celeste really wanted to go see the Empire State Building, but she just didn't have the time. Work, volunteering, preparing for college, finishing high school, it was a lot of junk to juggle all at once for the teen, especially when she was also trying to cultivate friendships & lasting relationships in the big ole' city.
Celeste was trying to see over the guy, whether by standing on her tippy toes or leaning around but this guy was impossible. Every time she tried to get a better view, he got in the way. Luckily, she saw some of the tricks that were going on - something with a lighter, and wait, was that fire in his hands? She really needed to get a better view now because that was intense and crazy. Was this a trick or did this guy have some type of fire mutation? Then again, she did hear he did something with a coin and that had nothing to do with fire.
>>"Now I'm gonna do a teleportation trick and I'll need some help. How about you, luv? Don't worry, I'm not gonna teleport you."
At first, Celeste didn't realize he was referring to her. She was so busy just trying to see that she didn't even process his words until everyone turned and looked at her. She gave a sheepish grin when it dawned on her. Teleporting? Well, Celeste wasn't one to back down from anything, so she moved forward with some slight 'excuse me, please' to the people in her way.
She got up next to the guy and unsure of what to really do, "Uh, I'm Celestina. Can call me Celeste, though." She pulled some of her hair behind her ear.
