The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Generally Leon's 'gifts' brought him nothing but grief, such had been the story of this life since he sprouted poison spikes and a face even a mother would hate. Still, he had to admit that in this case he was glad he could smell a lot better then before, as he could smell breakfast all the way from his room. Despite his hesitations about getting close to people, he never passed up a meal when he could, enough years of having to scrap by on what he could grab left him more then willing to take advantage of the mansions hospitality when it came to food. He woke up early before any of the other students could fill the hall, drawn by the scent of bacon and eggs cooked to perfection. They could be burnt for all he cared, the point was it was warm and in quantity. He made his way down to the kitchen quickly to beat any morning rush.
He could smell something else, something sweet, and he recognized the smell of pastry. If there was a pie there it would be heaven, he hadn't had anything like that in ages. He opened the door slowly, hearing someone else moving about, he wanted to make sure he didn't run into anyone, even if he was slightly excited by the prospect of food, his sense of caution was always tugging at his mind.
He peered in through the gap, and saw the girl over at the counter cooking, from this angle she looked normal, and he hoped he wouldn't scare her. Looked like it was a bit early for pie, but he could see the bacon and eggs off to one side. He double checked his bandages to make sure no quills had broken through, then slowly opened the door all the way, hunching over to get clearance and he padded in.

Leon lay on the floor of his room, trying to get comfortable. Honestly, sleep should have come easily, the dorm carpet was soft compared to the streets. Maybe it was just the change in scenery, he hadn't really slept in a room for years. It felt unnaturally quiet without the sound of cars, music, and yelling that came with the city ambiance. He supposed he would eventually acclimate, but right now it just made him nervous, out of his element. It didn't feel like he was settling down just yet, his body wasn't relaxed enough. He gave a short annoyed huff before getting up. Maybe a walk about would help. He hadn't really explored the mansion that much, with all the people in it he was afraid to go walking about during the busy hours of the day, but evenings it was a bit less active. He grabbed his jacket from the back of his chair, pulling it carefully on. It already had a few holes where a few of his spines had pierced, but it was the best one he could find at keeping his quills covered up. He double checked the bandages around his tail, even though there shouldn't be many people, he didn't want to lose a stray spine on the carpets for someone to step on tomorrow and end up hospitalized.
He quietly opened his door, slipped out and started walking, his padded feet hardly making a sound. He looked around, despite it being dark, his eyesight was pretty clear. The layout and decor reminded him of how rich these people had to be, else they had some majorly generous donors keeping this place looking like a palace. Well, at least in his view. It was easy to call it a palace when you really didn't have anything to your name for comparison.

Mutations
Mutation description:
Manticore physiology:
Leon’s body has a greater muscle to bone ratio, resulting in enhanced strength. Leon can, under optimal circumstances, lift about a ton for short periods. His skin covered in fur, providing some resistance to cutting, as well as insulation against cold. His hands and feet have retractable claws, capable of rending flesh. His spine is more flexible and has extra vertebrae and his tail provides more balance, making him agile for his size, and able to twist himself in the air to right himself, as well as bend forward enough to curl into a ball. His physical senses are also enhanced, allowing him to track by scent, as well as see in low light conditions. Leon has three rows of razor sharp teeth that line his mouth, and a jaw that can dislocate (which is a very disturbing sight). His bite strength is comparable to a lion’s. He is capable of standing or walking on all fours.
Several rows of barbed spine-like hairs run the length of Leon’s back, from the base of his neck to the tip of his tail. When Leon is agitated, these spines tend to stick up. These spines are sharp, and can easily pierce human skin, in which the barbs hook on and the spines break off, growing back in about an hour. However, these barbs contain a toxic venom which attacks nervous system and skin cells, and is extremely painful, enough to cause a person to go straight into shock. Left untreated a person can die, but the similarities to snake and spider venom is enough to where the most common anti-venom are an effective treatment. The 'tuft' of his tail is a bundle of quills, however, these ones are not venomous, though they are still barbed and painful. Due to his venom, his immune system can handle poisons and toxins without issue.
Strengths:
Leon is physically strong agile with many natural weapons at his disposable in the form of his claws, teeth and spines. His spines also makes close combat risky, as his venom can easily incapacitate an opponent, and kill them if not treated.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
His height can make navigating smaller spaces difficult, and his tail makes conventional furniture uncomfortable. His spines also tend to stick into things he sits against.
His fur can be uncomfortable in hot weather, and while it provides some small resistance from cutting, it is still just fur and a sharp enough blade can still cut it.
His venom can also be denatured with extreme heat (such as red hot steel, roughly 1200 degrees Fahrenheit), thus if the barb is removed and the wound cauterize, it can neutralize it if done immediately before the venom spreads.
His sense of smell can be thrown off by especially strong or irritating scents.
His hands and feet are an awkward combination of human hands and lion’s paws, while able to use them for most everyday tasks, it makes fine dexterity difficult.
Leon has a low level of animal instincts, while not strong enough to manifest in his behavior, it does cause some low-level reactions to certain stimulus, for instance his quills rising when he is agitated. However, nepetalactone and actinidine have a strong attracting effect on him, and have a strong euphoric effect that pacifies him.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/Stamina/Flexibility)
Able to lift 1 ton in optimal conditions, can run roughly 50 mph on all fours, though only in short bursts. Above average agility and balance.
Fighting Style:
Leon doesn’t really have a fighting style, in fact he does his best to avoid combat altogether due to his fear of killing someone with his venom. As such he will look first into ways for retreat. If forced into a confrontation, he relies on his strength and claws first, using his teeth to intimidate rather than to injure. If forced to, he will try to use the non-toxic spines at tip of his tail, though this is generally a last line of defense, as he could easily accidentally hit with his poison ones.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons:
Generally avoiding combat is the best way to avoid fighting, but it leaves him in a bind when he does have to defend himself, and his reluctance to use his abilities to their full potential limits his effectiveness, and often makes him a liability more than an asset in a fight.
History Of Your Character
Leon was growing up a normal kid who loved sports and the outdoors, which lead him to joining the football team in high school. He had no real goals yet, though he day dreamed about joining the big leagues as teenagers often do. With practice and determination, he could have possibly stood a chance, that is until his life screeched to a standstill. During a game, he was dog-piled by the other team, and when it did, his abilities manifested, causing him to grow fur and spines, teeth and claws. Half the people on him were pierced with spines, and his new appearance threw everyone into a panic.
Those he had poisoned ended up in the hospital, leaving Leon with the guilt in addition to his monstrous appearance. His parents, usually proud and supported, couldn’t even look at him, and he heard then arguing and fighting over what to do about him. Suddenly he was an outcast, the school wouldn’t allow him to return due to the incident, and protesters began gathering outside his house, throwing rocks and bottles and calling him a monster and a killer.
It was too much for Leon. He climbed out the back, jumped the fence and ran, disappearing into the night, and never looking back. He took to covering himself up, wearing a hood and wrapping his spines to prevent accidents, trying to hide himself away from the world. He lived on the streets for a few years, keeping to alleys and avoiding people and stealing food where he could. Even then he couldn’t avoid conflict, he was obviously a mutant, which drew attention from the wrong crowd. In such cases he would run, though more than a few times accidents occurred, cementing in his mind how dangerous he was to be around, and how much of a monster he was.
His presence in the community gained some notoriety, and eventually a group of fed up anti-mutant individuals decided to go out and put an end to him, using previous sightings to prepare for his quills with protective clothing. He managed to chase him down and corner him, but before things came to blows, a police car drove by, scattering the group, and Leon managed to escape, but ran into another group of people who had apparently been looking for him, who were offering a place where they may be able to help him with his 'gift'. Still shaken from his experience, he agreed, not wanting to stick around with people wanting him dead.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Stumbled on it while looking at marvel based rpgs. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No Sample RP:
Fifteen… Sixteen… Seventeen… Eighteen… Leon counted as he wrapped the bandage around his tail, binding the barbed spines tightly under, hoping that they wouldn’t pierce it again, though by now he knew it was only a matter of time. He wished he could just cut them all off, but they always grew back no matter how often he did, and thus he bandaged them time and again, the counting of the wraps becoming a mantra in his mind. He tied it off, his tail flicking back behind him across the bed. He didn’t use it to sleep in, despite how soft and welcoming it looked, but he knew his spines would get caught in the material, aside from making it like sleeping on a bed of spikes it would also poison whoever slept in it next. And whoever changed the sheets. Honestly anyone entering his room was risking their life, one broken spine, that was all it would take. Maybe he should check again just to be sure.
It beat the alternative, he could only imagine what would have happened if another one of those mobs had come looking for him. At least he had a roof over his head and three square meals a day, and that was more than what he could ask for. He didn't know where this would lead, there wasn't anything that could be done to make him any less dangerous to be around, but at least he could keep himself away from people who may want to take a swing at him, which was a plus he guessed. He walked over to the door, opening it a crack to look out into the hall, looking over the pictures and potted plants, obviously indicative of these guys being loaded. There were worse cages out there.
