The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sarah walked as quickly as she could to the coffee shop she usually went to on her days off, if she didn't go to the park. She pushed some of her wet hair out of her face as she opened the door. As she entered, she tried to get as much of the rain water out of her hair as she could. She tossed her drenched hair over her shoulder as she waded through people to the counter.
"Hi, Jessica," Sarah greeted the teen at the counter. "Can I have the usual?"
The dark skinned woman turned around to watch the unusually large crowd. She knew that most of them were seeking shelter from the rain. The coffee shop usually only had a few people milling around whenever Sarah visited.
She couldn't really blame the crowd of people. The rain came at the lunch rush and people wanted to stay dry before they headed back to work. The twenty-three year old could pick out a few of her regular customers and some of her coworkers in the crowd.
When Jessica came back with her Caramel Hot Chocolate, Sarah smiled and paid the girl the correct amount, plus some for Jessica's college fund. With her drink in hand, Sarah looked around for a empty table. Luckily she found one that seated two that wasn't occupied.
Taking a sip of her drink, Sarah started to watch the people around her. 'Such a stormy day. I wonder when it'll let up. I might like this place, but I don't wanna be stuck here with all these people,'[/color] Sarah froze as she realized her thoughts.
"The rain is making me feel mean," she mumbled to herself.
With a sigh she started to watch the rain fall onto the window to her left. Her body was facing the door, but Sarah didn't want to watch people at the moment. Instead she picked up the forgotten newspaper off the table. Pulling out the needed portion, she started searching for a new job.
It wasn't that she didn't like her job. No, she liked her job just fine. It wasn't what she wanted from life and she did want to get paid more. She also wanted her Fine Art degree to get some recognition. Her waitressing job did not do that. She hoped she might be able to find something while she waited for the shop to loose the crowd.

Drew slouched his way through the line in the coffee shop. Not that that did much at his height but he slouched anyway. Not to be shorter but because he was tired and fed up and just wanted some coffee. His life had gotten a little too chaotic lately and he just wanted a brief rest with a nice black coffee. Eventually he got to the front of the line.
"Regular old coffee, the darker the better."
The barista, a gal named Jessica, poured him the coffee and handed it over with the smile that seemed mandatory for every Jack and Jill that poured caffeine for a living. He paid for the coffee and surveyed the store. It was busy today. In fact, if he wanted to sit he'd need to sit with a stranger because there were no more empty tables. If he hadn't been clutching a cup of hot liquid he would have shrugged. It wasn't a terrible fate. Maybe not long ago he might have worried.
So Drew picked a table at random, a little two seater. There was an attractive young woman sitting there but she was paying more attention to the help wanteds than to him, at least he thought. That was fine too. Drew was perfectly content to sulk over a bitter cup with a distracted table partner. Besides, maybe they'd both be dry by the time she looked up.
She noticed when the seat across from her was filled, but she paid the person no mind. She was more focused on the paper in front of her. Her uncovered hot chocolate sat near the middle of the table waiting for her to drink it, though she also ignored the liquid for the time being.
After mentally crossing out everything that didn't deal with art, Sarah was left with very little oppertunities. Actually, she had only two. One was to help paint a mural, but didn't pay a lot. The other was for identifying and confirming art pieces as the real deal. Both would not help the young woman. Sighing heavily, she reached for her drink.
Her hand bumped into her cup and started to tip. Putting the paper down as fast as she could, Sarah tried to stop her cup from falling but failed. The hot contents of her cup spilled from the open top.
"Oh dear," she gasped as she tried to keep some of the hot liquid from spilling. "I'm so sorry! I didn't even think!" More words of apology came out of her mouth as she grabbed the spare towel that was left out incase of spills.

When the hot chocolate spilled Drew was entirely unsurprised. He was in a coffee shop. Some was bound to happen. Frankly, as far as he was concerned, they were lucky it wasn't an alien invasion or broccoli flavored taffy monsters.
"Eh, it was inevitable. No worries."
Drew just moved away from the spreading liquid, glad that he'd managed to avoid something for once. It was surprising and cheered him up a little despite the ran and his mood.
Then he jerked forward as a laptop contained within a shoulder bag made contact with the back of his head. There's the old Leroy Luck. Drew was beginning to think it was absent today! The woman whom the bag belonged to was either in a hurry or rude because she didn't stop to apologize or even look at him. She just bustled out into the rain.
Drew grabbed his coffee and took a long draw of it. A split second decision sent him back into the line where he waited until he got to the front. Jessica was still there and thankfully also remembered the drink his tablemate had gotten. Walking back to his seat he placed the replacement drink on a part of the table that she wasn't mopping up. He'd made sure that Jessica had put a lid on this one.
Sarah smiled weakly as she tried to clean the spilled liquid. All the while she was berating herself for hitting her cup. She hadn't been so clumsy since she had started her job as a waitress. The first time she thinks about leaving and she spills something.
She continued cleaning up the brown liquid until she saw the man, whom she had thought left, sit back down. She stopped and looked up to see him place a drink on the table.
"Uh," she paused, "what's that?"
After she had spoken, the brunette realized how rude her words were. She busied herself with mopping up the last of her spilled drink before tossing the rag into the small bin next to the door to the kitchen. She had been coming to the cafe long enough to know what went where and who was working when. If this place had been hiring, she would have taken the job.

Drew smirked as she asked what he'd just sat down on the table.
"I believe its a paper coffee cup. At least, that's what it looks like to me." He couldn't help himself on that one. Drew picked up his coffee and took a sip. She'd cleaned up the mess in the mean time, fairly quickly too. Maybe she was a waitress or something.
"My name's Drew by the way. Might as well introduce myself since this place is so crowded."
In fact if it weren't for the sheer amount of people around he'd probably stretch out a bit. There were still a fair number of folks seeking shelter from the rain though so no comfort for Drew.
>>"I believe its a paper coffee cup. At least, that's what it looks like to me."
Sarah felt herself glare at him. Wasn't he master of the freaking obvious.
>>"My name's Drew by the way. Might as well introduce myself since this place is so crowded."
"Might as well," she mumbled. She sighed before introducing herself. "I'm Sarah, and I meant what's inside it. I didn't spill your drink. Or are you just addicted to caffeine?"
The rain was still falling, though it seemed to have slowed if only a little. The brunette spotted a few people leave, but the large crowd remained where it was. There were a lot of people in the small cafe. They had probably reached the capacity limit a bit ago, though there wasn't much they could do to stop people from coming in.
