The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"Koga seems like a good person. He's the one who really helped make me feel welcome here."
"Well, that needs to change" Maya smirked. New students were coming in almost every day, and eben though she was a Mansion greeter, she was having a hard time keeping up with all of them. It was not like anyone was unfriendly to them, they just.... tended to be a bit lonely until they made some friends.
>>"The classes leading to a future thing is something I still have no idea about,"
Maya nodded. She knew that feeling. The girl seemed interested at her mention of a team though.
>>"What team would that be?"
"Umm." she considered the answer for a moment, tilting her head as she looked at Skydancer. Oh well. if she did not find out here, they would sure as hell tell her at the Sanctuary.
"It's the X-men. Some of the students who want to use their powers to help people are allowed to train and join the team. I'm one of the team leaders."

It was nice to have someone who seemed to care about whether or not Skydancer felt like she belonged. It wasn't that anyone had been actively mean to her or anything, she just hadn't met many others that lived there. Aura and Koga she supposed she could consider friends but not really anyone else and Aura lived in Sanctuary, not the Mansion. Saph had been nice enough to bring her to The Mansion, but she didn't think she could quite consider him a friend.
"The team sounds interesting," Skydancer replied thoughtfully. She knew there was something about the place, something that was hidden and this had to be it. She had felt that way since the first day she came there, that there was some ideological war going on and that one day she'd be forced to pick a side. It was something she originally wanted nothing to do with, something she was afraid to be pulled into against her will, except that now she wasn't so certain. Things had changed so much in such a short period of time and now...she almost felt like she wanted to pick a side because it might just be the right thing to do.
"How do you help people? I mean, its possible to help people without actually being a part of a team, right? Or is that against the rules or something?" Because that would really suck.

"Well" Maya thought about that for a moment "The police tends not to like vigilantes and masked superheroes going off on their own. Our team works with the NYPD, helping out when mutants are involved and the police can't deal with the situation alone. We also help out whenever our special... talents are needed. We were in Hawaii a while ago, evacuating an island."
And that went just splendid...
"... anyhow, we train to use our powers the best we can to help out when we are needed. And because the police knows about us, we don't need to do the whole masked hero thing."

"There seem to be a lot of masked heroes running about," Skydancer spoke, mostly just thinking outloud. She remembered Saph in his vigilante getup and then there was the one who had rescued her from the M addict, though she had never gotten the guy's name.
"Seems like it'd be useful to have actual legitimacy though. I mean, if you're trying to do the hero thing, of course. One man's hero is sometimes another man's villain otherwise."
The possibility of becoming a vigilante was yet another thing Skydancer never thought she'd have to consider. Life sometimes took unusual changes. "So how about you, do you enjoy being part of the X-Men?
