The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Dahlia shrugged at Sky's question. Maybe there were other mutants like them and maybe there weren't. Dahlia hadn't met any but Sky yet. The complement turned her skin a little red but she tried to answer anyway.
"I don't know. There might be! I haven't met very many people in the Sanctuary yet but maybe they know of some."
Once they met at the bottom of the building Sky asked Dahlia to lead the way to the Sanctuary and Dahlia nodded. Since the Sanctuary was where she was living she'd love to lead her new friend there. Of course if the murder accusations turned out to be true then Dahlia probably wouldn't be staying there long. Murder was just wrong after all!
"Sure. It's not a bad place to live. Better than the streets anyway!"
And Dahlia silently added, I don't have to steal anymore if I live there.
It would be a little sad if the murder thing was true. Then again it would be just like a monster to live with murderers. So maybe if it were true then that was where she deserved to live? It was all very confusing and sad. Dahlia worked a little harder to smile as she thought about where she would go if she left the Sanctuary. After all, she just didn't know. Back to the streets probably.

Skydancer nodded at Dahlia. As much as she now wanted to meet other mutants with unusual appearances, it wasn't something that she was going to get her hopes up about. In truth, it wasn't something that she would really wish upon anyone else anyway, given how difficult it tended to make life. As neat as it would be to meet others, she would feel just as bad for their circumstances as she sometimes felt for her own.
"Almost anywhere has to be better than the streets," Skydancer answered, mostly managing to keep the bitterness from her voice. It wasn't a time she particularly cared to remember or ever return to. Whatever she was getting herself into with the living with fellow mutants thing, it had to be better than that. It was the reason she was investigating her options to begin with.
Dahlia nodded in response to Sky. Anywhere was better than the streets. Then again...
"Sometimes the streets are better than someplace though. It isn't great but it can still be better than some things."
The chameleon girl told herself that regularly after she'd run away. Being on the streets as a monster was better than being stuck in a home that didn't love her anymore. They were right not to obviously but it hurt anyway. And if she'd stayed they'd probably just fight even more about what had happened to her sister. Nope, for her and her parents it was so much better that she'd run away. Nice people like her parents didn't need to be associated with a monster.
Dahlia led the way toward the Sanctuary with her new friend in tow. They were going to find out the truth and if the murders were a lie then she'd take Sky on a tour of the place. If they were true then she'd be packing up her stuff and leaving! After a slightly longer than was wise for a cold blooded creature walk the two ended up at the gates to the Sanctuary. With a cheery smile Dahlia led Sky through them and into the building beyond.

Skydancer couldn't personally imagine a place that was worse than living on the streets so she just shrugged. Maybe if she was inducted into a slave household or something, but barring that it was hard to imagine a worse alternative. Not that it was an exercise she really cared to continue anyway, so she forced her mind away from such dark thoughts.
Skydancer happily followed her new friend to Sanctuary. It was such a good feeling to actually have a friend again and one that actually understood what it was like to be one of the freaks, too. She felt as if she might just be able to accept her life as it was now, since she now had a friend to help her accept it. Everything in the world was easier when you had someone who could relate to it too.
"This is some place," Skydancer announced, upon arriving at the gates of Sanctuary. The giant golden doors were more than a little impressive, that was for sure. Though it begged the question of how did a mutant homeless shelter afford golden doors?
