The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah that's pretty much it. Not something you want to happen in a firefight, though." Noel stooped to pick up the bullet, which was quite a task in the close space. She placed it in Aedus' hand before settling the spring and reattaching the slide.
"If you load the magazine right, it's usually not a problem. There's a trick to it..." Only this was where things were fuzzy. She hadn't loaded this magazine, but if she'd remembered, she would have seen it and been able to prevent the jam from ever happening.
But talking about revolvers was more important right now anyway. Aedus to the rescue. "Right. Out of bullets. Revolvers are pretty much... uh–" Well, the saying went that they were un-f**ck-up-able. –hard to screw up."
Was it a little hot in here? Noel gave her second clip a tap on the counter before she loaded it into the weapon, checked the safety and then offered it to Aedus handle first. "Want to try this one?"
Noel retrieved the bullet and he couldn't help but observe. He cleared his throat as she handed him the bullet. He might have to limit access to his memories if he was going to let his imagination run wild. She must have come across som
She gave him that look that had him so sure she was into him and he seemed to loose track of what was going on...right, magazine jam.
He swallowed hard and then nodded to the long haired brunette. "Sure, trade ya?' He offered his weapon in exchange it still had two slugs ready to go, the rest were on the counter. He waited for Noel to put on her ear muffs, tapped the safety and let loose a barrage of shots adding to Mr.paper's woes for the day.
He absolutely could not do the strait line thing that Noel had been doing his shots were more like a scatter fire, but then his mind wasn't all in the game now.
Why would his aim be worse with a semi-automatic? The revolver kicked a hundred million times worse. Noel figured bracing himself would help, but with the ear muffs no amount of shouting would convince him of that. So she had to show him.
She tapped his knee and then went down on one knee next to his position so that she could brace her elbows on the frame that kept the shooters from walking out onto the range. With the small space, they would be shoulder to shoulder but there was still room for aim.
Elbows on the wood. Aim. Two hands on the weapon. Aim. Safety off. Aim. Breathe out.
His finger froze on the trigger as she tapped his Knee while he was wasting bullets, he observed her positioning and took a breath kneeling next to her and attempting to get his head back in the game so to speak.
He nodded before placing his finger back over the firing mechanism. Deep breath and fire on release, He braced in the same fashion Noel had been and he sent a bullet chasing her’s. A pair of headshots rang through the building as the pair thwarted the paper threat once more. It helped quite a bit when you cared about aiming for a target.
“There we go, That’s much better.” Noel’s gun was infinitely smoother, and less exhausting. But he couldn’t help but feel like a gunslinger with that revolver in his hand. He clicked the trigger and there were no more bullets to fire. That was a sad use of a magazine. He raised the gun and blew on the barrel after the safety was on again of course..
He looked to Noel and lowered his arms Waiting to see if she wanted a go with the revolver. If not they might have been done with their firing range session. Where did they go from there? Pancakes, firing range…subway ride?
“There we go, That’s much better.” He actually started making shots that looked deliberate. And it was so not better.
With one bullet left, Noel was realizing that she was wishing that this... whatever it was, was not yet over. She changed her aim and took out paper man's heart. Aedus joked around. Typical Aedus. He was trying to keep the status quo because she had asked him to. Not because there was no chemistry between them. It would have been easier if there weren't.
Safety on.
"So..." She opened the cylinder to empty the shells out into her hand. Only one was still pipping hot. Juggling the casings helped her think about other things. "Did you uh. Learn anything?" Noel stood just to have an excuse to put some distance between them. Yeah. Gun. They still had to trade guns back. And hers was a loaner.
"Are you—" free for the day? No. Bad idea. Noel switched up what she was saying mid-sentence. "—we should probably uhm... do different things after this." She turned to hit the button to call paper man back in. He was hardly a man at all after what they'd done to him.
So hot, she handled his revolver with the same professional marksmanship she did her loaner. The way her jaw set and her lips opened slightly drove him wild his heart raced beating wildly in his chest.
She stood and he looked up admiring her form for a moment from a new angel. He came to a stand and Aedus wanted to kiss her; he couldn’t help himself, he wanted to plant a kiss on her stubborn pouty lips so badly. He cleared his throat. “yeah, of course I did, you are a good teacher. And the experience of having done it in a controlled environment was eye opening.” Aedus babbled. He watched as she bounced the bullets up and down and he swallowed hard.
He hit the safety and dropped the clip out the gun, how many times had he seen an action hero ignore the falling clip to shove another in. he checked the chamber just in case before handing the weapon over handle first.
“yeah, I’ve got stuff I have to do around the apartment.” He hadn’t meant to lie. “Sorry, stuff I can get done around the apartment.” That was the truth, there were plenty of things he could get done, any more important than spending the rest of the day with Ms.hard to get. Not likely.
“And that is why you stay on this side of the gun, Mr.Paper.” Aedus set the gun and empty magazine on the arm rest. Why was noel so damned confusing!? He could see it in her eyes.
Noel closed her eyes to get some space and considered the pros and cons of being in a relationship.
Pro. She wanted to. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone there to take care of her?
Con. Hormones. She wanted to remain independent. She might not remember why she wanted to. She probably only wanted to right now.
Pro. That might not even matter.
Con. She had things to do. She couldn't run around thinking about a guy all the time.
Except, She was already running around thinking about a guy all the time. Was that a pro or a con? This was getting confusing.
"Good job today." She just couldn't do it. Not now. Probably not ever. They'd already gone over this when they started the morning with their pancakes and talk of relationships. She didn't want to fall into greater debt to Aedus than she already was. "Be sure to tell your mom 'hi' for me, okay?" She pocketed the bullet casings and the empty clip and retreated from the enclosed space. She had to go return her gun, after all.
Aedus watched as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, was she as frustrated with herself as he was with her? The way her eyes flitted about under her eyelids said she was. She would open her eyes to find a smirk on his face that, unfortunately she would recognize on his face as the one he got when he thought he was winning. He might as well have said a matter of time to her point blank.
“Thanks for the lesson, you too.” He nodded, with his now smug expression. “I’ll make sure to do that.” He snatched up his now empty revolver checked the cylinder, just in case his distracted Noel left one in. he put his piece in his coat pocket and followed Noel up.
He seemed happy. Weirdly happy. Rather than question why Aedus was letting her off the hook, she just took it and ran. Literally. Up the stairs she went and to the front desk. She returned the weapon and clips before she gave Aedus a little wave.
"See ya around!" And she kept running. This time a bit more figurative than literal.
Aedus watched his heart run for her life. He couldn't explain why he was happy, but then who would he explain it to anyway? He wouldn't and thus he would just grin as he watched her braid bounce as she made her escape, He wondered when and if she would call him again.
He strolled along the sidewalk, talking a much more leisurely stroll through the world.
