Alister slipped into the professor's office. He had a small window of time between classes and the time that a certain unicorn would come for his own unscheduled appointment.
Dr.
Edward Shaw looked up over his spectacles at the young man in sunglasses who was obviously only about half the age he needed to be to legitimately wander the halls of this university.
The young seer cut right to the chase, “You don't know me, and won't like the fact that I'm a mutant, but my abilities are both useful and interesting, which you will find to your advantage so you will work with me.”
The doctor with the
scar that ringed all around his jaw pursed his lips thoughtfully, allowing the young man to continue his speech.
Alister continued, knowing that giving this man this much information and this much power was a gamble, but if he wanted to stop Sebastian and save the world, he needed to make it. They could deal with the repercussions later.
“A man named Sebastian, who is a
student of yours, has started his own church, a rival to your own Church of Humanity.”
Dr. Shaw couldn't believe how much this young man knew about him. It was almost as if they had a
hundred conversations prior to this one, and Shaw himself could remember none of them. The boy knew
too much, and yet, he had been right in his first statement, Shaw
was intrigued.
“In a few minutes the unicorn man is going to come ask you to help him turn someone into an immortal. You need to say yes, because helping him now will give you the key to stopping him later: unicorn blood You simply need to keep a little for yourself.”
“Why are you telling me this, boy? If you know so much, you know that I am no friend to mutants.”
“I'm a seer. Believe me when I say for the whole world's sake, Sebastian needs to die. It's the only way,” Alister was confident in his plan now. It had taken weeks of searching, but he had finally found a path through the future that had a chance of not ending in complete and utter destruction and death, though he had to make this deal with the devil in order to get what he needed.
“What's in it for you?” The older man was skeptical.
“I need a vial for myself,” or more precisely, someone he knew needed it.
“Just one?”
“I'll only need the one of
that and...,” there was a pause, he was pushing his time here, as he knew he would. Sebastian's footsteps were echoing down the hallway. “Excuse me, but we will have to continue this conversation at a later date.”
Alister ducked out the door leaving a somewhat confused college professor, medical doctor, and secret leader of one of the most sinister mutant hating churches in the country pondering what it all meant. He didn't have much time to ponder before another unscheduled, but no longer unexpected, visitor stepped through his open doorway.
It was a unicorn man, here to ask him for help turning someone immortal.
Imagine that.
