The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> “And hey, if it really bothers you, you can hang with me and my sister in and out of class. She and I will definitely keep you safe.”
Rebecca's ears perked up. "Ye hae a sister! Lucky! I've always bin an only child. Ah'm sure Ah'd loove tae meet yer sister." It was a curious thought though; how did mutant siblings work? Would her sister have a comparable mutation? Maybe something like spider silk-spinning? Such an interesting world she had been apparently born into!
Her pail running empty, she looked around for a hose or spigot to fill it. Realizing it as another opportunity to test her new sight, she closed her eyes and focused on the reverberating magnetic fields nearby. Besides the pail, the sheers and other nearby gardening tools, there was a small vibe nearby. She opened her eyes and approached it hopefully to discover the metal head of a hose.
As she refilled her water supply, she decided to learn a bit more about Agnes, stemming from their last topic. "Sae dae th' boys flirt wi' ye here ur dae ye hae someain of yer awn?" She hoped she was not being too intrusive. It was Agnes's personal life, after all. "Ah mean, you're certainly a bonnie gal."
>> "Ye hae a sister! Lucky! I've always bin an only child. Ah'm sure Ah'd loove tae meet yer sister."
“You already did. You said her name, Gina. She loves to meet everyone,” Agnes said with a laugh. “But she has yet to tell me about you.”
It was true. Gina was such a social butterfly and she so loved to be around the new students that she probably knew everyone at the mansion already, while Agnes herself really only knew a handful of the students. But that was not a fact that the runaway ever really held against her sister. She was glad to have someone that bright and happy in her life that she could call her sibling. Even if they were not really blood-related sisters, Agnes knew that deep down they sisters by choice.
Mutely she watched as the girl decided to move along to refill the watering pail. She was surprised since she had not told her where the hose was but for whatever reason she was just drawn to it. Agnes figured it had to do with the girl’s mutation and went back to clipping until she had finally was just about finished with this bush.
She had just one more pesky little branch that was throwing off the symmetry of the bush. But just as she reached over to clip it…
>> "Sae dae th' boys flirt wi' ye here ur dae ye hae someain of yer awn? Ah mean, you're certainly a bonnie gal."
CLIP!
“Oops!” Agnes had stumbled as that last question struck her ears. It caused her to lose focus and accidentally clip a bit deeper into the bush than she meant to. A large chunk felt off and made the lack of symmetry seem even more pronounced. “Aw man.”
She sighed as she stepped back to look over the bush. She would have to wait until it grew out or just re-clip the whole thing! But re-clipping would make it lose its pattern with the rest of the bushes. She sighed and just decided to wait it out. One tiny imperfection no one would notice, right?
She grumbled but then glanced to the girl, slightly blushing. Did boys flirt with her? Unfortunately, yes. Did she have someone in her life? Yes! But…how to tell her? Last time she met someone and didn’t tell them she was gay, Ami tried to hook her up with her brother as well as a random guy at the comic store. At least now she knew.
Maybe she should just nip it now and get it over with?
Still a slight blush on her very pale skin, the runaway smirked and nodded her head slightly.
“Umm..heh…yeah, I-I am seeing someone,” she said. “Which is partially why most of the boys tend to leave me alone now. That and I have been known to give a guy a pretty mean black eye.” She balled up her fist jokingly and fake punched the air.
Please don’t ask his name, please don’t ask his name… she silently prayed…

>> "Oops! Aw man!"
Rebecca looked back, her pail now full, at Agnes. Apparently the winged girl had mistakenly clipped the wrong part of the plant. She picked up the pail and hustled over. "Ah'm sorry! Did Ah distract ye?" The girl glanced over Agnes's shoulder. "It's barely noticeable," she consoled with a smile.
>> “Umm..heh…yeah, I-I am seeing someone, which is partially why most of the boys tend to leave me alone now. That and I have been known to give a guy a pretty mean black eye.”
Rebecca laughed at the show of force Agnes displayed. It was nice to see the girl had someone; Rebecca imagined it might be tough for some ignorant people to get past a visible mutation. "Ah'm glad Ah hae ye aroond tae protect me." She turned her green thumb to the attention of a new area of plants closer to Agnes. "Ah figured you'd hae someone; you're tae braw an' brammer not tae." She caught herself, realizing she was still using slang from home and hastily expounded. "Sorra, Ah meant nice and lovely. Ah keep forgettin' tae use th' right words."
"Sae Ah hope Ah git tae meet..." She thought for a moment before giggling. "Och right, ye havevnae said yet. What's his name?"
A sigh of relief did flash across her face. At least the girl did not ask about who it was she was dating. Though she had only faced any sort of closemindedness about her sexuality once, and it was mainly teasing that she quickly stopped with another well-placed punched, Agnes was not always the most comfortable talking about it. But she didn’t want to lie and spout of some random guy’s name either. The last time she did that the guidance counselor thought she had the hots for the X-Man Gawain. That was simply ridiculous.
So she opted to try and just let the matter drop. If she kept quiet about the issue and tried to steer conversation away then she wouldn’t have to talk about it or lie! Not that she was uncomfortable about the truth of herself. It was simply that she still did not trust people to be understanding. After what she went through with her last relationship with Rhythm and then with parents, she didn’t trust a lot of people.
But slowly that was beginning to change as well. It gave her hope for the future!
The girl moved closer to water more of the plants while Agnes busied herself with continuing her work on clipping the bushes.
>> "Ah figured you'd hae someone; you're tae braw an' brammer not tae…Sorra, Ah meant nice and lovely. Ah keep forgettin' tae use th' right words."
She blushed fiercely. Agnes was never good at accepting compliments; she still had a hard time with Jasmine doing to same thing. But she was getting better. Instead of fiercely protesting she simply blushed. Agnes was so easily embarrassed. But she smiled at the girl, (Whose name she REALLY needed to learn now) and nodded.
“Um…t-thank you.” she said with a small smirk.
>> "Sae Ah hope Ah git tae meet...Och right, ye havevnae said yet. What's his name?"
…
CURSE THE GODS ON HIGH AND THEIR HEAVENLY THRONE-FLATTENED BUTTS! Agnes thought fiercely.
Then she calmed and sighed with a chuckle. Of course that would be her luck. Then again, what was she to expect when talking with her fellow teenagers. Girls will be girls and relationships loved to be a topic of conversation.
No lying.
She squared her shoulders as she clipped another stray branch and glanced to the girl.
“Um…J-Jasmine. H-Her[/b] name…is Jasmine…”[/color] she said as she took a breath and waited for a reaction.

>> “Um…J-Jasmine. H-Her name…is Jasmine…”
"Uh? Oh!" Rebecca felt her face catch fire. She had jumped to what she guessed was the obvious assumption that Agnes's significant other would not be a girlfriend. She did suppose girls dating girls was more common here, and this was solid evidence toward that. New rule: no assumptions.
Unfortunately, the surprise of the moment had left Rebecca slack-jawed in response, which must have been very rude. "Ah mean, nae 'at there's anything wrong wi' 'at! Ah would still definitely like tae meet Jasmine! Your girlfriend. An' good fur ye! Ah mean, I've kissed a girl once, sae Ah know there's naething wrong wi' 'at!"
Okay, that last sentence made it clear that her rapid tongue was rambling because she had no clue what to say next. She took a deep breath. "Sorry, it's something Ah'm nae used tae, but 'at doesnae mean Ah care. It jist means, well, Ah wasnae expectin' 'at. Ah hope Ah didnae offend ye, Agnes. You're still great and nice and sweet." She was raised Christian, but her parents never taught her to treat someone poorly because they were different than her. She would treat Agnes the same way she would have otherwise.
Agnes nearly jumped due to the force at which the girl next to her jumped. Her exclamation, though surprising, was extremely funny. Agnes would have laughed out loud if it was not for the fact that the reason the young lady jumped was because of her. She was obviously just coming to the conclusion that Agnes was not dating a boy. And apparently that truth caused her to 1) send a blush through her face that rivaled the color of her hair, and 2) lose all control of speech.
She tilted her head as she looked more closely at the girl. W-Why was she just…staring at her? Instantly Agnes began to feel just a little self-conscious and averted her gaze. Was she wrong to admit the truth about herself?
The young redhead seemed to finally take notice and shook herself out of her temporary paralysis.
Agnes smiled, though it was meekly. She still could not bring herself to look at the girl. Agnes knew she should not have felt that embarrassed. The girl was incredibly sweet to her until right then so it was probably an honest mistake. At least she hoped that was the truth. If not she would have hated to have met this girl only to be judged because of her orientation. Agnes had her fill of close-minded people. She did not want any more in her life.
She took a breath and nodded, thanking the girl for her recanting but the redhead seemed unhappy with her and instead went on…
>> "Sorry, it's something Ah'm nae used tae, but 'at doesnae mean Ah care. It jist means, well, Ah wasnae expectin' 'at. Ah hope Ah didnae offend ye, Agnes. You're still great and nice and sweet."
The runaway stood there, crystal blue eyes finally trained on the redhead and watching her closely. She implored the girl’s eyes to tell her truth, to show her something, anything that would say that the girl was not really judging her. As she stared for a few moments before she finally just sighed and smiled with a friendly nod.
“I-It’s okay,” she said with a tiny shrug. “N-Not everyone, you know, is used to things like that. You didn’t offend me.” she smiled warmly. “And thank you, you’re still incredibly sweet and nice as well.”

>> “I-It’s okay. N-Not everyone, you know, is used to things like that. You didn’t offend me. And thank you, you’re still incredibly sweet and nice as well.”
Rebecca was still unhappy with herself for her reaction. Agnes was being polite, but she did not seem as comfortable around Rebecca as she did a minute before. "Good, coz whoever ye want tae loove doesnae change 'at ye an' yer sister ur th' nicest fowk Ah could hae met here." Strong, definitive assurance that lesbian Agnes was just as awesome as any other kind of Agnes.
She went back to watering the plants near Agnes. Cheeks still slightly pink, she recalled one piece of Rebecca trivia she tossed out in her rambling. "Ye know, Ah wasnae lying. Mah first-- well, mah only kiss was wi' a fitball teammate." She laughed at the memory of her awkward closed-eyes kiss. "It was truth ur dare. Ah blam a bus full ay teenage girl peer-pressure." Please jist laugh an' realize Ah want tae bond an' be friends an' stuff.
For some reason, even though Agnes was the one who liked girls, Rebecca could not stop wondering things about her. Were her lips as soft as Beth's? Did she think Rebecca was pretty? How rude! She has a girlfriend! That did remind her. "Sae does Jasmine go tae this school? Ah'm sure Ah'd love tae meet her!" She assured Agnes with a smile. If Agnes's judge of character was at all comparable to her personality, Rebecca was sure Jasmine would be amazing as well.
Agnes continued her work. Though she was not offended by the girl’s commentary, she was still just a tad embarrassed. She had seen reactions like that in people before and everything that the girl said was reminiscent of those experiences. They all have kissed girls before, they all have best friends who are gay, or they all fight for the movement of equality! But they were usually just empty words or were real-life situations that were merely played up for her benefit. Just because someone say a single episode of “Will and Grace” doesn’t make them advocates.
But, with a sigh, Agnes decided to not over think it. The girl was new to the mansion and she was sure that the last thing she wanted was to make enemies.
Clip…Clip…!
>> "Good, coz whoever ye want tae loove doesnae change 'at ye an' yer sister ur th' nicest fowk Ah could hae met here."
She stopped in the clipping and glanced over to the girl again. She smiled. She really did seem to be trying to make up for her foible. Maybe it was simply a silly mistake?
>> "Ye know, Ah wasnae lying. Mah first-- well, mah only kiss was wi' a fitball teammate…It was truth ur dare. Ah blam a bus full ay teenage girl peer-pressure."
She paused…
She blinked…
Then she laughed. Not a riotous laugh but it was a still a strong enough laugh to show that there were no more ill feelings towards the girl. Agnes knew the pressures of teenage girls. She remembered when she was still in high school her own group of “friends” tried on multiple occasions to make her do things that were not what she would normally do: ask boys out, try make-up on, flirt with popular athletic students that she had absolutely no interest in. Sometimes the pressure of the group can overcome the individual.
But as she mused about this, she could not help wondering what it was like for the girl. It was her first and only kiss and it was done on a dare? Was this how the girl viewed the entire kissing experience? Was it even good or just simply awkward? Wait…why was she thinking about this girl kissing?! And why were her cheeks still flushed? She blinked and returned herself to reality.
And just in time to see that the other girl had moved on as well…
>> "Sae does Jasmine go tae this school? Ah'm sure Ah'd love tae meet her!"
She shook her head.
“No, she goes to public school,” she smirked. “But, her younger sister comes here so Jasmine tends to visit a lot. That’s how we met,” she added with a grin. She paused in her clipping as she looked at the girl closely. Finally she just beamed. “Listen, don’t feel bad about earlier. What’s done is done, we can move on. Start fresh!” she stuck out her hand towards the girl with a nod. “My name is Agnes and it is lovely to meet a pretty young lady like yourself!”

>> “Listen, don’t feel bad about earlier. What’s done is done, we can move on. Start fresh! My name is Agnes and it is lovely to meet a pretty young lady like yourself!”
Rebecca smiled brightly at the idea of a fresh start. It was a nice way of getting all the unexpected awkwardness out of the way, because very often a person could be much more than her first impression. She shook Agnes's hand and nodded, "Mah name is Rebecca an' it's a pleasure tae meet a bonnie lass like yerself, Agnes." Did she mention her name in the first place? It did not matter now. Fresh start!
The last part of Agnes's sentence sank in a moment after everything else and Rebecca blushed, not uncomfortably, but instead unable to take a compliment. "Um, dae ye really think Ah'm pretty?" She smiled shyly, too humble to give herself that sort of credit.
>> "Mah name is Rebecca an' it's a pleasure tae meet a bonnie lass like yerself, Agnes.”
FINALLY… a name! Agnes thought. She mentally shook her head but she had to giggle at the idea. To have gone so long and still not get the girl’s name was humorous. But she was also not disappointed. It definitely was a pretty name and it fit the shy girl extremely well.
They shook hands and already Agnes was feeling like Rebecca would make an excellent friend. She was sweet, nice, and in a way, when Agnes looked at her, she was reminded of a flower. Rebecca had this sweet nature but at the same time she also looked so fragile and shy, as if the smallest of breezes could knock her over. But, she felt like that could not be farther from the truth. Though she was definitely innocent seeming, Agnes just had this feeling that she was probably stronger than she let on.
But she could not jump to conclusions. There was still so much she didn’t know about Rebecca, but she wanted to learn.
Hands retracted, Agnes smiled a little as she reached up and tucked a persistent strand of hair behind her ear again. Sometimes her hair really could get annoying…
>> "Um, dae ye really think Ah'm pretty?"
Agnes paused, apparently just slightly caught off-guard again. Inadvertently her insect wings fluttered nervously but she quickly regained her composure, and regained control of her wings.
Looking back at Rebecca she confirmed the girl’s question a quizzical look of surprise.
“Rebecca, o-of course you are! I mean, you have looked in a mirror, right?” she said encouragingly. She tried to keep talking so that she would not blush at her praise for the girl’s looks. She really did think she was attractive but that was not something someone said to someone else when they were in a relationship…right? Ahem. “I have a feeling you’ll be driving the boys crazy around here, honestly.”

>> “Rebecca, o-of course you are! I mean, you have looked in a mirror, right? I have a feeling you’ll be driving the boys crazy around here, honestly.”
The matter-of-factness of the compliment forced Rebecca to smile uncontrollably. "Ah'm nae sure about 'at... Ah mean, Ah'm covered in freckles pretty much evryplace. And mah eyes dornt match! They arenae nearly as pretty as yours. Plus!" She hesitated before complaining about her biggest complaint regarding her appearance, but she was already on a roll. She looked over her shoulder to her backside. "Well, Ah've got nae bottom!" Her cheeks pinkened with the admittance of her lack of butt. Her friends used to tease and say it was the reason she was so shy changing with the team.
>> "Ah'm nae sure about 'at... Ah mean, Ah'm covered in freckles pretty much evryplace. And mah eyes dornt match! They arenae nearly as pretty as yours. Plus!"
Another blush colored the insect-girl’s cheeks as she listened to the compliment. She had always heard that from people before, that they just loved the icy blue of her eyes but Agnes was of the notion that they were absolutely nothing special. After all, there’s a lot of people in the world with blue eyes, so what was the big deal? Normally she shrugged it off but the girl really did seem to admire them. For some reason this caused her to flush with embarrassment.
Agnes really, REALLY, needed to learn to take a compliment. But she had to admit that Rebecca really did have pretty eyes herself. She had never seen someone with two different colored eyes and for whatever reason Agnes just felt that it gave Rebecca a more exotic appearance. People went crazy for others who had exotic looks. At least that is what she used to overhear her own parents say.
That was why her parents tended to despise anyone who looked or acted “exotic”. Apparently they took people’s eyes away from God. She shook that memory away though. Now was SO not the time to think about her parents.
But as she listened, for whatever reason her imagination decided to go into overdrive. Freckles everywhere? Why was her mind attempting to imagine that? It was probably just a knee-jerk reaction but…still. That was indecent! Especially about someone she just met. And especially since she was already seeing someone…
>> "Well, Ah've got nae bottom!"
Blink. Agnes smirked but she did not laugh. It was not a cruel smile on her lips but as she tilted her head a little to regard Rebecca, she glanced, only briefly downward. Obviously she could not see that particular problem because Rebecca was facing her, but Agnes still found it humorous. She shook her head as she grinned just slightly at the girl.
“Rebecca, nobody is perfect. But, trust me, your…lacking a ‘bottom’ as you call it, is more than likely just a tad exaggerated. And besides,” she said with honesty tingeing her voice. “That does not take away from the fact that you really are beautiful girl. Telling you, the boys will be groveling at your feet before long.”
Besides, Agnes knew that Rebecca’s body issues were small when compared to other peoples. She felt her scars, especially the massive one on her stomach and sighed just a bit sadly. She knew she would never have a body like normal people. Her parents had made sure of that, which was why she had been branded and scarred so deeply. Definitely problems that were worse than Rebecca’s. But she knew better than to say that out loud. Instead she only smiled at her new friend.
She really was pretty, freckles, no bottom, and all. She hoped Rebecca knew that.

Rebecca laughed at the thought of being worshiped by the menfolk of Xavier's. "Ah'm nae sure about 'at. If th' dae, Ah'll jist keep ye close sae ye can protect me." She grinned, remembering Agnes's little show with a right cross earlier. "S'at alright wi' ye?"
She ran her fingers through her hair, tucking strawberry blonde locks behind her ear. Looking over Agnes, she was very thin, and her paleness rivaled Rebecca's, minus the freckles. It worked for Agnes, in Rebecca's eyes. Along with the wings and her striking blue eyes, it was like she was something magical, like a fairy. She found herself smiling, wondering if she would have to live with blushing around her new friend.
Rebecca felt her phone buzz in her pocket. "Ach, sorry!" She pulled it out briefly to see a text message from her father. "Hope you're making new friends! Remember to behave!" Oh, if her father could see her now, she thought with a smirk.
Before she put away the phone, she did catch the time. It seemed she had been out with Agnes longer than she expected. "Ah hink Ah am headin' in. Will ye come wi' me ur are ye nae done here?"
>> "Ah'm nae sure about 'at. If th' dae, /Ah'll jist keep ye close sae ye can protect me…S'at alright wi' ye?"
Agnes just snorted with a laugh and nodded.
“If that’s what you want, sure thing. The boys know better,” she said with a wink.
And it was true, she really did have a mean right cross. Just has a fella on campus named Gawain Morris. He’d never admit that he had deserved it, but Agnes begged to differ. Still, news like that cannot be kept contained and the even though the incident was over a year ago, people still remembered it. Which was good. Infamy sometimes had its rewards…
She watched as the Rebecca seemed to be lost in her own thoughts. But before she could say anything, suddenly there was a loud buzz. For only a moment Agnes thought that maybe her insects were beginning to get curious but before she could question it, her new friend found the source…
>> "Ach, sorry!"
Agnes just nodded that it was fine and turned to look up at the this area of work. With Rebecca’s help they managed to get a good portion of it done. That was excellent and definitely deserved a break. But as she mused about this, she glance up to see that there was low hang, dead branch sticking out of a small tree. She tried to reach up to cut it, but damned thing was just out of her reach. She hated that and grumbled to herself about it.
But Rebecca’s voice pulled back her attention.
>> "Ah hink Ah am headin' in. Will ye come wi' me ur are ye nae done here?"
She smiled. “Yeah, I’m nearly done. Pesky branch though. Just, on sec, okay?”
Agnes squared her shoulders. She was still working on her back muscles to try and get herself in shape for more flight. So far she could not get very high but just maybe today she could get herself high enough to grab that dead branch. It needed to be removed so it did not fall on some unsuspecting student’s head.
A glance to Rebecca and for whatever reason she felt just slightly embarrassed. Like she really did not want to fall flat on her face in front of her. She hoped she wouldn’t…
Clearing her throat Agnes took a breath and spread out her iridescent wings that glittered in the light. She flexed one wing, then the other and held her breath. Slowly before wings twitched and began to flutter. Slowly at first and then gradually faster and faster until a hum filled the air. The wings beat fast and gently, ever so gently, Agnes began to lift off the ground. Not very high but the it grew as her wings buzzed faster and faster.
Cautioning a look, Agnes peered up to see that the dead branch was within her reach. She was so pleased with herself that she managed to get even the scant four feet off the ground that she managed to get. Already she was getting tired though. She definitely needed more practice. So, reaching out, she plucked the branch from the tree and slowly began to lessen the wing beats until she finally managed to touch down on the ground.
Once feet touched grass, she allowed herself to breathe. Tossing the branch into her recycling bag, she turned to Rebecca and beamed.
Rebecca watched as Agnes focused on getting off the ground. It was one thing to talk about flying, but it was another to watch the girl fly. Her wings moved rapidly, vibrating with a constant buzz. She looked on mouth slightly ajar at the girl hovering before her, impressed.
Agnes returned to the ground with a perfect landing and asked if she was ready. Her eyes twinkling with intrigue, she exclaimed, "Yoo're absolutely amazin', Agnes!" She looked at the metal bangles at her wrists. "If Ah can learn tae lift mah weight, Ah'd loove tae fly wi' ye!" Thus far, she had been able to lift some metal chairs, and even a table by pulling at the metal legs, but her body was just out of her power. She could drag herself around, but so far she had only achieved getting off the ground for maybe a centimeter or two.
Realizing she was acting like a fan-girl, she reeled it back a bit. "But yeah, Ah'm ready tae leave. Want tae go tae th' common room? Gina said folk hang out there, right?"
She thought back to when she first entered the garden and Agnes seemed shy or withdrawn at Rebecca's reaction to her wings, and she reconsidered whether Agnes would want to hang out in such a public place. "Ur wherever ye micht want tae go. Ah'll follaw wherever," she added with a smile.
