The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Agnes sighed as she stood in the lower levels of the mansion. Her back resting back against the smooth, cool wall of the hallway, she turned and glanced at the large door that led into what she had learned was called the Danger Room. It was a great place to practice one’s powers and not have to worry about damage to the rest of the school. The Danger Room could apparently take anything that was being thrown at it. The runaway was thankful for that, especially judging from the type of training that was going to be going on today.
With a sigh, Agnes gnawed on her bottom lip. So far still no Sveta. She hoped everything was okay.
Dressed in a pair of baggy black sweat pants and a blue sweatshirt with the Xavier’s Sister School insignia on it, she crossed her arms over her chest. Her dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail while her blue eyes had searched the hallway doors for any sign of other students or staff.
Agnes always felt funny about being down here by herself. She knew that she couldn’t get into the Danger Room without a seasoned staff member so she always felt like a truant when she was down here by herself. After all, she did not have permission to be down here by herself, but Sveta said that she would meet her. But…where was she?
She cleaned her short nails as she thought silently to herself. Agnes had offered to help Sveta with her powers since her blonde friend had been trying to figure a way to get some control over them. She couldn’t blame her. After all Sveta’s powers didn’t allow her to get close to anyone because just being near her gave them the coffee jitters. Agnes had on more than one occasion felt that. Especially considering that Sveta was her best friend.
But there was another reason why Sveta wanted control…she had a boyfriend and he was a mutant. Agnes still tried to wrap her mind around that one, but this guy apparently made her happy. Happy enough to want to actively seek to control her mutation.
With such an honorable reason such as that, why wouldn’t Agnes volunteer to help her? Besides, Agnes had been affected by Sveta’s touch before so she knew what to expect. Not that it would be easy, but at least in the Danger Room there’s be some kind of control. She wanted to help her best friend in any way that she could.
Resting back against the wall, she sighed as she reached up and smoothed her hair back against her head, adjusting her ponytail.
“Where are you, Sveta?” she mumbled to herself began to idly kick the wall with her running shoe clad foot…
Sveta ran down the hallway towards the DR. She almost forgot. She had so many things on her mind... past, present, and future... that she almost forgot she promised some practice to Agnes. She did visit the Mansion that morning, but she was soon distracted by her thoughts... When she finally remembered, she threw on some training clothes and sneakers, and ran.
She saw Agnes standing in front of the door, and skidded to a halt, panting.
"I'm sorry" she said with an apologetic smile "I just... had some stuff to do. Sorry for being late."
The DR door slid open. Sveta had special access - she couldn't run any of the training programs apart from the basic one she used before, but right now, that was not the point. The point was Agnes and her powers, and how the DR could contain them in case they went haywire. Sveta wes determined to learn how to control her ability, and Agnes thought the same. It only made sense that they should work on them together...

Agnes found herself lost in her own thoughts as she stood there, leaning back against the wall and trying to make head or tails of what happened to Sveta. She was sure that she was fine, but did she really forget that they were going to be practicing today? Agnes toyed with the idea of calling her, but the nearest phone was upstairs and if she walked upstairs, she could miss Sveta. At least that is what she assumed. She knew her luck. The second she would leave her post, Sveta would appear and they would continuously miss each other in such a manner.
So, still locked in dilemma, she stood there and stared ahead, the world disappearing before her eyes. She began to hum to herself as a song slowly found its way to her lips…
“Baby, baby, baby, ooh… “Baby, baby, baby, noo… Baby, baby, baby, ooh… I thought you’d always be miiiine…”
Suddenly she paused and licked her lips distastefully. God, was she REALLY just humming THAT song? That damnable Justice Beaver song? She hated that song with a passion and yet it just was so damn catchy that when she least expected it, it managed to lodge itself into her brain. It was to the point that she was halfway through humming the song before she realized what it was she was doing. That was definitely not cool.
She was going to kill Sveta now…
Then Agnes looked up and saw that familiar mass of blonde hair waving through the air as Sveta ran with everything she had directly towards her. Agnes pushed herself off the wall just as Sveta came to skidding halt right in front of her and panting…
>> "I'm sorry…I just... had some stuff to do. Sorry for being late."
Agnes smirked as she uncrossed her arms from her chest and nodded.
“It’s okay. I’m just glad you didn’t forget me. I probably would have waited here until there was nothing but a skeleton left,” she giggled. She could never stay made at Sveta. She then followed her friend into the Danger Room, curious as to what this training was going to result in. “So, is everything okay? You seem a little…exasperated…”
That could have simply been from the running, but she asked, just in case…
>>“It’s okay. I’m just glad you didn’t forget me. I probably would have waited here until there was nothing but a skeleton left. So, is everything okay? You seem a little…exasperated…”
"I'm fine" she waved; it was either that, or explaining the whole thing, and she was here to train. Bad enough that she arrived late, she didn't want to spend the rest of the session with girl talk, as fun as that sounded...
"I just have things on my mind. I'm okay." she smiled, and she meant it, it was nothing she could not deal with...
"Ready?"
The door was closed, the lights were on; the DR was safe. Sveta stood in front of Agnes, pulling off one of her gloves. She was going to start slow; the point was to keep her powers in check and touch Agnes without boosting her powers. She knew she was not going to get it right at the first try; but you have to start somewhere...

>> "I'm fine…I just have things on my mind. I'm okay."
Agnes arched a brow but she said nothing to antagonize Sveta. She really did seem like there was something weighing heavily on her mind but the runaway did not want to force her to talk about anything. Instead she merely nodded her head and decided that it would probably be best if she simply kept her mouth shut. Though she did hope that Sveta was okay…
“Well…if you say so,” Agnes said with an understanding nod. Sveta would talk to her whenever she was ready. Until then, she needed to be a friend and respected her space.
They walked into the large and empty space of the danger room and immediately Agnes remembered the last time that she was here with Gawain. God she could have killed him. Sending an army of hungry zombies after her was just plain ridiculous. She hoped that Sveta did not have anything like that planned for her.
>> "Ready?"
Watching her take off her gloves, Agnes took a deep breath. This was really happening. Sveta was going to intentionally touch her and try her damnedest to keep from making her powers go haywire. She prayed that she be able to. But…she knew that experiments like this would not work on the first try…
She hoped someone had bug bombs ready upstairs.
A resolute nod and Agnes smiled at Sveta as she rolled up her sleeves.
“Okay…” she said while taking a breath. “Let’s do this…”
>>“Well…if you say so. Okay…” she said while taking a breath. “Let’s do this…”
Sveta smiled at Agnes. She was not entirely without worries about this training, but just the fact that Agnes was here made her cheerful anyway.
"All right, dis is how it works." she said, standing in front of her "I am going to touch your hand and try to not boost you. You be ready; when I pull back my hand we will see if I did right or not. If not, it is your turn to deal with the boost until it wears off. Den, we go again."
Reaching out, her fingers hovered above Agnes' hand for a moment before she placed them on her skin. She counted in ther head - one, two, tree - focusing with all her might on keeping her coffee buzz in check. Then, she pulled her hand away to see how she did...

Agnes sighed. She was trying to mentally prepare herself for what was to come. She knew all too well what it was like to be touched by Sveta. The last time she was in a room full of bugs and she was connected to each and every single one of them. Would the same thing happen now? Was the Danger Room secure enough to keep out the multitude of bugs that were attracted to her? What about the mansion in the above levels? Would they get the brunt of this damage?
But she had to stop questioning herself. She was doing this for Sveta. If Sveta could be brave enough to risk touching another mutant to train, Agnes herself could be brave enough to deal with her own boosted powers.
>> "All right, dis is how it works…I am going to touch your hand and try to not boost you. You be ready; when I pull back my hand we will see if I did right or not. If not, it is your turn to deal with the boost until it wears off. Den, we go again."
Agnes nodded. She understood and she was ready.
She winced, almost as if expected Sveta’s touch to burn. Of course though…it did. The second that Sveta laid her fingers down across her skin, Agnes counted down to three. For a second a momentary second she had hoped that maybe, just maybe Sveta was doing it! That she was controlling…but then her whole body felt like it was vibrating.
Even after Sveta’s touch was gone, Agnes shook as she tried to force her powers down, to keep them from getting out of hand but it was quickly proving to be too late. She was holding her breath but she knew that if she opened her mouth she would keel over. Instead Agnes’ finally just gasped as she suddenly felt herself connecting with hidden insects all around the mansion and in the dirt that surrounded the Danger Room’s exterior.
Scuttle…Scuttle…Scritch…Scratch….[/b]
She could hear all of them, each and every one was trying to claw their way through metal in order to get to her. But Agnes ground her teeth and closed her eyes, desperately trying to maintain some kind of control…
Sveta watched Agnes struggle with her mutation with a tiny frown on her face. She could kind of hear bugs skittering and buzzing around, out of reach... buteven without that, she could tell what was happening. That was Agnes' power acting up. She counted slowly in her head. It did not have to last long. Two minutes later, it was slowly starting to wear off; Sveta did not move, allowing Agnes to concentrate on keeping her bugs at bay. In the meantime, she focused on trying to pull her aura back to herself; imagining it as a bubble that was becoming smaller and smaller around her person. Finally, after three minutes, things were back to normal. Kind of.
"Well... that did not work" she noted, even though she did not need to "Want to try again?..."

Agnes struggled to try and not vomit. She could feel the bugs inside of her chest suddenly skittering out of control, wanting to be free, wanting to awaken and swarm about her like the family they wanted to be. But Agnes fought it and she fought hard. The whole sensation was utterly mind-blowing and the runaway couldn’t the twinge of fear that tickled her to the depths of her soul. What if she couldn’t stop it? What if the mansion was overrun with the bugs now?
But she had to focus, it was hard going though.
She felt like her mind was a ping pong, flashing and connecting to various insects that were all around the outside of the danger room, trying to creep inside. The scratched and skittered about as they tried to find some way in. Agnes could hear each and every single one of their voices, all of them calling to her, wanting to join the Queen’s side. And for a second, the tiniest and most animalistic part of her mind wanted to urge them on. She wanted them at her side, she wanted to rule over them…but she fought it off.
Tooth and claw, she fought it off until finally…three minutes were up.
Agnes gasped as she lurched forward, the feeling fading until finally she began to feel like herself again, only tired.
>> "Well... that did not work"
“Obviously,” Agnes replied with a tiny smirk and nod. She breathed heavily as she straightened herself up.
>> “Want to try again?..."
She knew that Sveta was concerned…but Agnes wasn’t going to quit on her. Gently she nodded.
“Yeah,” she replied as she wiped the beads of sweat from her brow. “Let’s go again.”
Agnes was not giving up. Controlling all the insects was probably a lot harder on her than she showed; but Sveta was not going to make her look weak by saying they should stop. Agnes knew what she could take, and Sveta was nog about to give up yet either.
"Okay" she nodded, reaching out again. Her fingers hovered over Agnes' arms while Sveta closed her eyes and focused on her powers. She was trying to calm the buzzing that she constantly felt; she was trying to keep it contained, much like Agnes must have been keeping the bugs in her chest cointained, even if they were trying to crawl their way out of her mouth. Sveta imagined keeping her powers in the form of bright energy within her body, within her chest, under her skin.
Then, she touched her fingers to Agnes' skin, one, two, three, and pulled back, opening her eyes.

Agnes paused as she watched Sveta agree to continue their training. Her mind disconnected with the rest of the insects that were outside but she knew that they were there. They had pressed closer the second that Agnes’ powers had been boosted. They knew where she was now, even if they were not within the distance to her powers. Another boost was bound to drive them absolutely bonkers to get to her.
But she could control this. She knew she could, she had to.
Taking a steadying breath she held out her arm and waited for Sveta to touch her skin. Eyes closed, she winced briefly as she her friend finally reached out to touch her skin.
And Agnes didn’t feel nothing.
She cautioned opening her eyes as she saw Sveta’s hands on her skin and then step away. Agnes blinked as she looked down to her arm. Nothing! She didn’t feel the buzz! She didn’t feel the insects outsides, she felt absolutely nothing.
“S-Sveta! I…I think—“
She paused as suddenly a trembling began to overtake her body. She tried to act unfazed by it but she quickly failed. Before she knew it that familiar shuddering happened throughout her body and Agnes ground her teeth and closed her eyes as tightly as she could. Again it was happening, again she could feel her powers absolutely going haywire, again she was connecting with the mass of insects that skittered and scratched outside of the Danger Room walls, even louder now.
Agnes gasped as she clutched at her chest, balling herself up as she fought to keep the struggling insects inside of her body.
Sveta smiled back at Agnes when nothing happened, her heart beating just a little bit faster at the hope of success. Could it really be that easy? For either of them?...
>>“S-Sveta! I…I think—“
Of course not.
Sveta's smile faded as Agnes started to struggle with the insects inside. She took a few steps back, wrinkling her nose. Maybe three minutes was too much. She should have done less. Even though she almost had it... she suddenly felt sorry. Agnes looked like she was in a lot of pain, keeping control like that.
"I'm sorry." she muttered, counting seconds.
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Agnes cringed as she felt her mind connecting with the multitude of bugs that were struggling to get into the Danger Room. Their skitterings could be heard so loud now, at least to her, that is slightly made her skin crawl. She couldn’t imagine what would happen if they all managed to get in, especially since this was the second time that her powers had been boosted. For a moment she let fear overtake her and Agnes gasped as the buzzing in her chest intensified to the point that she nearly released all her insects at once.
But Agnes managed to stave it off, though the process did leave her exhausted.
>> "I'm sorry."
The apology fell on deaf ears. Only because Agnes was trying extremely hard to hold the insects back. She knew that if she opened her mouth to speak they would all come flooding out. She could hear them, thumping and beating at the insides of her chest, wanting to be free, squiggling and aching to burst out from their prison and break out into the world.
But she held them back.
For three, grueling minutes, Agnes held them back.
When it was finally done, Agnes breathed a small sigh a relief. She breathed heavily, and slowly straightened herself up even though her knees were exceptionally shaky. Sweat dotted her brow as she turned up her blue eyes to see Sveta standing to the side, looking mournful and disappointed.
“Hey,” she smiled weakly. “Don’t…start getting down…now.” She gulped as she straightened up took one more breath before she finally looked calm. “You’re doing so good! You almost had it that time.” She nodded encouragingly as she rolled up her sleeves. “Come on, again.”
>>“Hey... Don’t…start getting down…now. You’re doing so good! You almost had it that time. Come on, again.”
It felt like an eternity until her powers wore off again. Poor Agnes seemed to be struggling to keep the insects in check. She could only guess what the Danger Room looked like from the outside. People would have a fit if they saw...
"Are you sure?" she hesitated, looking at her; she caught her breath, but she knew that the past few minutes had strained her. She looked sure, though. For her own sake, or Sveta's, she was not sure. Probably both.
"All right. I'll make it shorter." she promised.
Closing her eyes, she focused on her powers once again, just like she did before. She imagined her aura around her as a shiny bubble, and tried to pull it back to herself; it was not easy even to imagine it, ever since she found out about it she always imagined it the same way. She bit her lips and focused on the image and what she was doing with it; when she felt like her powers were trapped under her skin safely, she reached out, and touched Agne's hand with her finger. Just once.
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Agnes sighed as she managed to straighten herself up. She was still a little tired looking but she knew that she wanted to do this for Sveta. This was her friend, after all, and what else was she there for it not to help her? Damn though, the Russian’s powers did back quite a punch. Agnes could feel her stomach twisting and turning from the sensation but as it began to settle, she knew that she wanted to continue. Sveta looked upset, and cautious, but Agnes was not going to let her get angry with herself for this.
>> "Are you sure?"
Agnes looked utterly exhausted but it was obvious that she was hellbent on this. She nodded firmly and with a set look on her face.
>> "All right. I'll make it shorter."
“Okay,” was all Agnes said as she braced herself again.
She held out her arm and waited for Sveta to touch her. They had to keep practicing, they just had to. She had to believe that they would eventually get it. There was no way that Sveta would be stuck with her powers in such a way the rest of her life. That was not how it worked. She deserved a chance to control them, the same way Agnes did, the same way a lot of mutants did…
A single finger was placed on her and Agnes held her breath…
