The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He had a plan. A bullet-pointed plan.
Learn to use a gun.
Learn more.
Get good.
Figure out how to make his power work more like a gun.
Own.
Somewhere in there, he had it in his head that he would also work on shard armor. Because hey, in the line of police work, power-based body armor was always worthwhile, right?
An easy first step on this plan was getting someone in the know to help him out (because he had a feeling the redhead he had been planning on asking just might hate his guts). To that end, he called Jorge.
"Hey, Jorge? It's me, Shin. From the X-men. I was wondering if you could help me learn some basic firearm skills? And then, maybe some advanced?" Yeah. This plan would go smooth! Like a baby's rump.

Jorge
Jorge got some strange calls in his time. But this one…it had to take the cake.
>> "Hey, Jorge? It's me, Shin. From the X-men. I was wondering if you could help me learn some basic firearm skills? And then, maybe some advanced?"
An X-Man wanted to learn to use a gun? For some reason Detective Cervantes always thought that they were above that sort of thing. Or at least rather used their powers. But for whatever the case, Jorge was glad that Shin had called him. At least he was not going to just snag up a gun and tote it around, pretending that he knew what he was doing.
Too many people like that run around New York.
Jorge strolled into the mansion, nodding to the guard that had let him in. He had become a frequent visitor in the past year, because of Gemma, and the security all knew who he was.
Dressed in his favorite bomber jacket, black shirt underneath, and blue jeans, he maneuvered towards the entrance to the underground levels of the mansion. He had remembered the path well. When Ghost, another member of the X-Men, had trained him when his powers started to evolve, she took him down to their training facility. Someplace they had called the Danger Room.
Silly name, if you ask him.
But Jorge went along with it. Now he was headed there again to meet Shin. As he descended down towards the facility, he could not help the thought that flew from his lips…
“God,” he grumbled, “I hope he got pants that fit.”

As Jorge entered the Danger Room, Shin turned. He smiled at the man.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice. And thanks for helping me out last time. Worked like a charm." He'd gotten pants that fit! It had been amazing. Still was, actually.
"I've gotten to the point in my training where I learn to use a gun, but... I'm still having troubles understanding it all. And I was also thinking of figuring out how to do something with my powers sort of like a gun... although with less stopping power, of course..." Because obviously, shooting diamond-hard balls of teensy tiny triangles had less stopping power than a metal projectile launched by the force of a small explosion towards easily-torn chest flesh. "I'm looking for help. Was wondering if you wanted to do a few DR sessions."

Jorge
He found the Danger Room easily enough. It was not hard to forget a place like this, especially considering the amount of training that he and Ghost had done that day. Thankfully he found Shin already waiting for him.
>> "Thanks for coming on such short notice. And thanks for helping me out last time. Worked like a charm."
And with pant’s that fit, no less! Thank the lord.
“Glad I could be of service,” Jorge said with an appreciative nod.

Jorge nodded. So the kid wanted some of the basics of firearm training. He should have been learning that in the academy. Wasn’t he supposed to be a cop in training? Oh well, it never hurt to get some extra practice in, especially with someone who knew what they were doing. Not that Jorge was egotistical, he just knew how to handle a firearm with some precision.
“Actually sounds good. I don’t mind showing you the ropes,” he responded with a smirk. “We can start with some basics and then see what you can do with your powers from there.”
He did have a vague idea of the kid’s abilities. He witnessed him use them once but that was it. Something with psychic diamond shards or something. How in the world could he make that work with a gun?

"Alrighty, sounds good."
So far at the academy, they had shown him... well, pretty much everything he really needed to know to use a gun. Yet, he still didn't get it. There was just something there... maybe Cervantes would be able to explain it better.
"I'm ready to start when you are." Shin gave a curt nod.

>> "Alrighty, sounds good…I'm ready to start when you are."
Jorge nodded.
And so the lesson began.
Mentally he smirked at himself. Throughout this lesson for the X-man, he was reminded of his training session with the young Russian woman by the name of Sveta. He was teaching Shin the exact same basics that he had taught her that day. How to stand, how to hold the pistol, warnings about kickback and aim and such. Though the young man was already in the academy, he had asked Jorge for help because he was having trouble with the basics, the mechanics.
The detective was more than happy to help him to deal with that. On top of shooting lessons, Jorge gave the man some basic knowledge about the mechanics of the gun. How its built, how to take it apart and clean it. He even, while the pistol was taken apart, allowed the man to take a close look at it and explained to the best of his ability how each of this made up the whole.
Time passed, more quickly than the detective thought it would. Shin made a good student. Once they were done, Jorge paused and took a step back from the man.
“How you doing? This, helping at all?” Jorge asked.

Somehow, something about the way Cervantes taught connected with him. It might have been the examples, the seeing, the telling. It might have been a large number of things. But basically. "Yeah. It's helping." Shin said. It was helping a lot.
They'd already done a bit of shooting practice. The danger room's target range was set up. His aim wasn't perfect, but he was getting better. So... all that was left was testing that other thing out.
Shin looked to Jorge. "Should we try the power experiment, now?"

>> "Yeah. It's helping…”[/i]
Jorge saw the look in the man’s eyes and he really did seem like it was finally getting some of the mechanics down. He was not one hundred percent surprised. The academy can be a little tough when people aren’t prepared for it and they don’t always go into a full breakdown on how things are used. Their instructors were a little too preoccupied with getting more bodies out there to enforce the law. On top of that the kid was an X-man, maybe they didn’t want to fully disclose to him what they would to others.
But during their session the kid was getting it. His aim was a little off but he was making was quick progressive which the detective saw as extremely useful. Maybe he would make a good officer after all.
>> "…Should we try the power experiment, now?"[/i]
“So long as you think you’re ready. We’re working on your comfort level here, okay?” Jorge said encouragingly. “So what is it that you want to work on first?”

"Well." Shin said. He held up his right hand, pointing the index finger and curling the rest, like a gun. His brow crinkled as he focused. Slowly, very slowly, tiny triangles appeared in the air around his finger tip. As he watched, they coalesced into a sphere. The sphere was round and rough, like a ball of crumpled tin foil, and it gave off a light glow.
Shin looked to Cervantes. There was sweat on his brow. "We could start with target practice for this. Last time, I tore a path through a wall."

Jorge asked the question, and he received the answer.
>> "Well."
As he stepped back he watched as a sweat broke across the X-Man’s forehead while he concentrated. Before the detective knew it, he spied that small triangles of color began to suddenly form in front of him. They collected, amassed and formed themselves into jagged sphere that floated gently in front the young man’s fingertip.
That was definitely a…colorful, yet deadly look projectile.
>> "We could start with target practice for this. Last time, I tore a path through a wall."
Jorge nodded, sincerely impressed. He glanced over to the target practice they had already done. He was still continuously surprised at the things this Danger Room could conjure.
“Alright, well, you’ll have to make some compensations when you’re using your power instead of an actual firearm. But first, take aim, remember everything I taught you about your stance and posture, and take a crack at it.” he said encouragingly. “We’ll see if you need to make any changes.”

"Okay," Shin said.
Hunkering down, he turned, shoulders and arms locked ahead in a pointed posture, aimed to ease the recoil while holding a gun. If this even had some recoil.
Part of him wanted to just fire it Spirit Gun style. That was likely the best posture, anyways. And quicker on the draw, too.
He took aim.
Shin fired.
The recoil pushed his sneakers across the floor.
Shot went wide. The recoil had thrown him off. By several feet, actually. And now, his shoulders hurt.
"Sheesh..." Shin sighed, rubbing his neck. "Maybe that posture doesn't work so hot for that technique."

>> “Okay,"[/i]
Jorge stepped a bit back and watched the kid.
But as Jorge stood there, he watched as Shin took a stance, if he wanted to call it that, raised his index finger with the ball made up of razor sharp triangles, and take aim.
3…
2…
1…
Jorge blinked at actually jumped slightly at the kickback from that power! Part of him truly didn’t think that it would have been able to be fired with that kind of force. After all there was no visible combustion for him to see. But he didn’t know the finer aspects of Shin’s power.
Apparently it packed a punch.
>> "Sheesh...Maybe that posture doesn't work so hot for that technique."[/i]
Jorge shook his head. “Obviously not. Do it again, if you can, keep your legs strong and loosen your arms a bit. Don’t keep them rigid otherwise it’ll throw your aim again…”
This was going to be an interesting training session…

Shin took all of Jorge's tips... and he ignored them. Obviously, if this weapon were anything like a Spirit Gun, which was nothing like a real gun, then it wouldn't need any special body bracing to reduce recoil... and if it did, that was largely to look cool.
Shin took a pose with his side towards the target, aiming his arm and his gun hand finger. He focused and created another shardy ball. It gave off a light blue glow, and it. Looked. Awesome.
When it was ready, he fired the shot. It took a whole lot of focusing and brow-creasing. And when he shot it, it pushed him back a bit with a lovely ounce of recoil. It was much better this time, though.
Shin mused to himself as he took a second to catch his breath. "I'll bet I could use that recoil for something, too..."
The shot had even hit the target, just shy of the center. Nice.

Jorge stepped back as Shin began to regain his stance…though by apparently ignoring everything that he had just suggested. Jorge shrugged. This is the realm of mutant powers, not firearms, so the dynamics would be different. If the kid felt like he could handle it from here on without his advice, he would let him. After all he knew his what his powers were like far better than Jorge ever would.
Juuuuust in case though…he slid behind the kid to catch him if he managed to fire whatever that sphere of energy was and end up knocking himself back onto his butt.
But it apparently wasn’t needed.
Jorge narrowed his eyes as suddenly that sphere of energy flew off again. There was definitely power behind it and, on top of that, the kid managed to even hit the target.
>> "I'll bet I could use that recoil for something, too..." [/color]
He smirked and nodded. He was definitely impressed.

"Let's... try that a few more times." Shin decided.
So, they did.
He fired until his arms were black and blue (not literally). Then, they were done.
"I think that's about enough for now. Thanks."
He'd originally wanted another training session for the cop, but now... now he felt exhausted. They could save that for another time. He wanted to nap.
