Warren sighed as he looked about the room, never had he been so nervous about anything. The black tailored suit was beginning to feel stuffy and the various tables seemed to be closing in on him, and why wear his palms so damn sweaty. Shaking his head he looked up to the cheap hand written banner that read “SPEED DATING” in large bubble letters. “Of all the things to get talked into…” he grumbled as he stared around the room. Initially this was supposed to be an in and out job, one man distracts while the other works the safe in the back, but of course something had to go wrong and his safe guy caught the flu, and Warren being a cheap opportunist wasn’t going to let his fifty dollar ticket go to waste (not to mention the free buffet).
So now he sat, dressed rather stylish in his Armani suit, and greyish dress shirt with matching black leather shoes. For once this was something he actually paid for and he looked good. His hair was freshly cut and trimmed along the edges, his face neatly shaven with a silver Geneva watch on his wrist. One would think he came to find love instead of playing a part; perhaps the dozen or so of deep blood red roses over played his part. As he worked to relax his nerves he glanced around at the quietly well-lit restaurant. It was nothing big or overly fancy but the establishment did have a dance floor room for just the speed dating group, allowing with space to house the regular guest. Each table was covered with white linen clothes and a small vase to house a single rose, not the quality Warren had dished out for but still a nice rose. Two vanilla scented candles were placed perfectly parallel to the vase in the middle of the table followed by a plastic number card and wine glasses at each chair. Off in the distance he could hear the sound of soft violins; he saw no live band so figured it was merely the speaker system of the restaurant soothing through the room. “This is nice.” Finally taking a moment to not panic and fully appreciate the setting. He flagged down a waiter that was passing by seemingly un-busy. “Yeah, I was wondering when the buffet would be available, I was hoping to eat before we started, you know fresh breathe and all.” The slightly feminine male spoke softly and slow like Warren was a child. “Mmhm, well sir the buffet won’t be available until the speed dating is completed. If you’d like I can get you a menu and-“ Lifting his hand Warren silenced the man. “No thank you, I’m good.” Warren got his answer and didn’t need to hear anything else, eventually brushing the waiter off with a motion of his hand.
“A few women talking my head off won’t be too bad; at least I get a meal out of it.” More people filled the area over time; eventually the open speed dating was becoming more congested. Separating the participants into male and female groups, the gong sounded.
