The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mina had spent some time observing the Black Horse pub where the cop Ryan Doyle tended to spend some time. That took up her morning and afternoon. Tomorrow she'd actually visit the place to start her revenge. Now she wanted to unwind. She needed to be clear headed before starting in on her revenge. So Mina had gone back to her warehouse and changed into a more club worthy outfit consisting of a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, black stiletto heel boots, and a white spaghetti strap v neck tank with a very low cut to the v. This was of course followed by heading downtown, picking a club at random, and heading inside.
Once she was within the halls of pulsating lights and pounding beats she made a beeline for the bar. The woman wanted a couple of drinks in her before she headed out onto the dance floor to mingle with the throng. While she sat at the bar she glanced through the crowd. It was mostly people younger than her: scantily clad girls that were probably either barely out of their teens or pretending to be older than they were and young men hoping to score with said scantily clad girls.
Mina didn't really judge them for it. How could she when she spent so much time at the same game? They were simply younger players and as a rule tended to be much more clumsy about it. With a smirk, Mina downed what was her third shot and headed out onto the dance floor. She'd mingle, dance a little, perhaps catch a few eyes, and then retreat back to the bar.

Of the throng, Ashton was not one of the many trying to score with new players. He was looking for female accompaniment of the older, more mature variety, potentially interested in long walks on the beach, romantic candlelit dinners, and whatever else he had to lie about to get them interested in his face. Luckily, it wasn't like he had the world's most unattractive face. It looked like the crowd held several others of equal, or lesser, attractiveness, to snag his attention. He thanked his lucky stars for good genes.
Women were dancing, and he was mingling. A smile here, a grin there. Someone much younger, and more attractive than him swooped in to steal a woman he'd had his eye on. Ashton cursed good genes.
For the moment, the good detective retreated to the bar. He needed a drink, and perhaps, the bar would no longer be overpopulated by too-young ladies sipping drinks with fake IDs? He hated having to nudge the bartenders and point to the drinking age signs, and/or liquor licenses, and surreptitiously flashing his badge.
On the way to the bar, Ashton stopped. His eyes settled on a pretty little thing in a V-neck top and stiletto-heel boots coming his way. Correction: Coming the way of the dance floor. His ego wasn't THAT huge. She must have wanted to dance. Well, then. Mentally adjusting his schedule for the night, Ashton moved to intercept. He smiled at the minx, and said "Care to dance?"
On the way to the dance floor she was intercepted by a fairly handsome man. He was well dressed and had a charming enough smile. On his invitation to dance Mina eyed him up and down, not bothering to hide it completely. It wouldn't be obvious to the people around them that she'd just given him the once over but he'd notice if he wasn't totally oblivious. Mina then turned her own version of the charming smile on him.
"Oh I don't know...why should I dance with you over any of the other men in this place?"
Mina rather wanted to hear what he'd say. Not that she wouldn't dance with him. He was handsome enough and dressed in such a fashion that denoted some amount of disposable income. Of course that could always be a ruse. A lot of the men in these places would do such things to get a girl to go home with them. It was what made them so easy to toy with when she felt like it. This was just for her own amusement before she set about taking her revenge on a certain Ryan Doyle. After all, she wouldn't get to do things like this during that little scheme. She'd be obliged to play the good girlfriend.
That was going to be a pain but worth it in the end. For now though it was time to have what fun she could.

Oh, she was good. From the obvious 'checking out' to the demeaning question. Somehow, Ashton got the feeling she wasn't one for long romantic walks on the beach. The charming smile stayed put.
"Well, I asked first." He said. Then added, politely. "Come on. Dance with me. Then, I can buy ya a drink."
He played her game, all smiles. That was how you usually handled a tease.
Mina's smile twisted into a smirk. He could handle that much huh? The smart aleck reply coupled with the offer a drink was enough to sway her opinion in his favor.
"Alright, let's see what you got."
She snaked an arm around his arm and cozied up to him all nice like. Then it was off to the dance floor.
"So, got a name?" she asked en route. It would be nice to know the name of the first guy of the night. There would likely be others. There usually were. Whatever happened with this guy was...irrelevant in the long run.
Mina could respond in any number of ways. She could give him her actual name, a generally bad idea for any number of reasons. Or she could make something up. That would work well enough. However Mina decided to go with a name she'd used before and would be using when she took down Ryan Doyle.
"Sarah."
She matched his cool smile with one of her own and then they danced. It was a fast paced song and Mina found it was easy enough to move herself in accordance with the beats. She had little experience with this sort of dancing. She knew the more formal dances backwards and forwards. However at bars and clubs she stayed clear of any dancing for the most part. She was usually content to fritter away her time at the bar, buying drinks and flirting with rich looking men.

Sarah. The name was noted and filed under 'H', for Attractive. Because she was Hot.
The song was fast, the kind of thing one could really move to. And so, they did. Proximity. The heavy drum of the beat that made the heart pump in time. These were things he noticed, as they danced.
As the music finished, Ashton addressed her. "Now, about that drink."
One dance was plenty. Now, it was time to talk over the pound of the music, and a nice martini. Or whatever drink he felt like buying that might not quite remind him so much of the slickness of James Bond. Although, one had to love Bond.
The dance was over sooner than one would think and Ashton was suggesting they head back to the bar for the drink he'd promised her. That was fine by Cosmina. This sort of dancing could be fun but really wasn't her thing at all. Linking her arm with his once more she smiled at him widely.
"Lead on Ashton. I could use a drink after that dance."
Having no real preferences Mina didn't really care what drink she had. Her only requirements were that it be alcoholic and that it not be too cheap.

To the bar, to the bar, to the bar bar bar, they went. Ashton, ignoring any hint from that comment that his dancing might have been anything but super.
He slid onto the bar stool, and looked to the barkeep. The detective held up two fingers, then looked to Cosmina expectantly. "Lady's choice."
The bartender looked to the woman, also. The faintest hint of a smirk touched on his lips as he awaited her order.
Mina took the stool next to Ashton. Apparently he expected her to make the choice. She grinned a little bit and shrugged.
"Whatever's good. Bartender's choice."
Of course, being a bartender he'd have his preferences but by and large she expected he'd go for something expensive since she'd just given him free rein to do so. While she waited for the bartender to do his thing Mina turned to Ashton.
"So Ashton, tell me about yourself."
What lies would he come up with? It didn't truly matter to her, considering she was only out to have fun tonight, but again she was curious.

Bartender's choice. Ouch. Ashton didn't look the bartender's way, but he felt the guy's smile widening. She'd just given him free reign to buy something expensive. If this had been one of his regular haunts, the bartender would have known better. He would have been familiar with what kind of drinks were appropriate to make a cop buy for his gal pal, and what drinks weren't. He'd have been familiar with the art of not swindling an officer of the law.
Sarah gave him an out. "I'm in the NYPD," Ashton said. He could hear the gears in the bartender's head grind to a halt. For a moment, the bartender stood there, thinking. It looked painful. Then, he decided on something fair.
"Rum and Coke," the bartender said, passing out drinks to the customers. Sarah and Ashton.
Ashton smiled. "What about you? Where d'you work?" He asked.
She had made the bartender's day with her statement. Mina's taste for the expensive had made many a bartender very happy. However Ashton's response to her question gave the bartender a pained look. Mina sympathized. He'd essentially just snatched money out of the man's hand. However, what were the chances that she'd run into a cop? It amused her in a way that she was using a persona that supposedly had a thing for cops and she ran into one the day before she embarked on her little quest for revenge. Still, she did need to see if it was believable.
"A cop?" Mina showed him a very pretty smile, "I like cops."
The bartender settled on rum and coke in the end. Mina sipped at the drink when it arrived before answering Ashton's question.
"I'm an accountant. I work for a well off old couple that pays me to keep their finances in order."

The accountant lady liked cops. Well, who didn't. Ashton didn't smile at the revelation. The smile was already glued to his face.
"Sounds interesting." He joked. "All that math."
Ashton had never been a math major. He'd never been into all those crazy symbols and numbers. Accounting was the kind of job one didn't ask about. What was there to say?
"So, what d'you do for fun, when you aren't balancing books?" Ashton asked.
