The Mutant Related Crimes Division Ideals These officers are dedicated to protect, serve and uphold the law. They are just like every other police officer except their work lies primarily with the mutant cases. The MRC (pronounced “Mercy”) is a division of the police station where the detectives work to ensure that mutant cases are given special attention. These officers may be human or mutant, but all are dedicated to upholding the law when mutants are involved either as victims or as perpetrators. Their job is to give the mutant community a fair voice. This is why they are the ones called in when mutants are in trouble, as well as when mutants are running amok. The MRC Full Time Detectives. These detectives are full time investigators. They are called into case involving mutants, whether they be in trouble or ARE the trouble. Full time detectives are usually the first called into duty whenever the MRC is contacted. [/a] [/ul] InternsUsually those seeking to be detectives must either spend a minimum of 1 – 2 years in uniform before they can apply to be a detectives. These officers are still enforcers of the law but do not know the ropes or have the connections that more seasoned detectives do. They normally will get the smaller cases and can tag along with full time detectives on the larger ones. There are three routes you can take: 1) Join the NYPD as a beat officer. After a year, if your character’s track record makes them stand out from the herd, they can be given a shot as an intern detective on the Mutant Related Crimes unit. Prove your stuff, and it won’t be long until you’re accepted by the old timers. Using this track, your character will gain the NYPD Faction status immediately as they work their way up the ranks. (Your character must be at least 21 to be a beat cop; this is the minimum age to join the NYPD.) 2) Join the X-Men, and be deputized for police work. A year of deputy work assisting the police can stand in for a year of beat cop work; your character can then join the MRC as an intern, like in the first option. (Your character must be at least 21 before they can begin their internship.) 3) Make a character who already has a cop background. They can either be a beat cop who’s just climbing up the ladder to the MRC, or a seasoned vet transferring in from another detective unit elsewhere in the city or country. While this is the quickest way to join the MRC, please keep in mind that the Mods will judge how well your character would fit in at the MRC before accepting it. This route is recommended for second/third/etc characters whose players have had time to learn the ropes at MRO and research how the current MRC Detectives handle their threads. (Your character must be at least 23; older is better, for realism. In RL, it usually takes several years for a beat cop to move up to Detective.) 18th Precinct The Mutant Related Crimes Division’s main space of operation is inside of the 18th Precinct. It is a standard police building with little else different. It swarms with police officers and detectives all the time so it is a fairly secure place to be in. Their receptionist, Cynthia sits at behind her desk, answering and transferring calls, and behind her is the entry way to the MRC Division office. A side wall is lined with wanted posters of known mutants at large. Inside this main division office there are several desks in which the detectives sit, work on and research cases. In the back there is a weapons cabinet should the detectives need extra firepower. Also in the back there is a staircase that leads up to a second floor landing. Here there are more offices and also a room that holds several bunk beds, should detectives need to spend an all-nighter down at the precinct. Down another hall behind the officers desks are interrogation rooms. Also there is a staff kitchen/break room where detectives can have a break, eat a snack, or converse near a water cooler. Basic Security Building: Areas with special security measures: Containing Mutant Criminals Keeping a mutant under arrest takes a bit more work than it does with a mere human. As such, the MRC has a few special precautions at its disposal. - Power Restraining Collars/Bracelets. Also known in the mutant community, not-so-affectionately, as "shock collars." Developed during the Mutant Registration Act of 2007, the shock collars/bracelets are designed to send a friendly surge of electricity into any mutant that uses its power, shutting down their ability before it has an effect. Collars/bracelets automatically trigger when a mutant ability is used, though they can also be turned on and off by remote. Note: Collars/bracelets are only used with mutants whose abilities present a strong threat to themselves or others. A mutant who was shop-lifting? Not likely to be collared when he's brought in. One who just assaulted someone using his power? Much more likely. Collaring/braceleting is a matter of officer discretion.
- Containment Cells. The MRC has a limited number of cells designed to keep mutant powers under warps. For all intents and purposes, these are especially durable solitary confinement units. Used for only the most dangerous of mutants, or in lieu of a shock collar for mutants with an "always on" or electricity-based type of ability.
Criminal Element Like any law enforcement institution, the MRC is there to uphold justice and peace. But even though this specialized police force has done its best to capture and bring perpetrators to justice, new criminals pop up and old ones find ways to keep coming back. The MRC keeps in regular contact with other police stations across the city, always ready to answer the call if any of their stars from the “Most Wanted” lists have been sighted. Current Most Wanted These criminals are considered armed and extremely dangerous. No police officer is advised to attempt to bring them in by themselves. Always call for back-up.
