The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Eventually Mina came back to the point where she'd first approached Deven. Interestingly enough he was there, and seemed as though he was waiting. He'd had enough time to get cleaned up during the time she'd been busy. Mina pulled up to the curb and parked. She was out of the car and approaching Deven with a smile moments later.
"Well you look better. After escaping from the hospital I admit, I expected worse."
Mina stood quietly for a moment, noting the envelope he held. That she reckoned held her payment.
"What's in the envelope? If you don't mind me asking."
Hopefully it sounded like polite interest. If not then it didn't matter too much. She didn't need to try and fool him any more. He'd promised her payment and a life debt. Mina wasn't about to let those go. If she had to persuade him to see things her way then it was no matter to her at all.
Deven saw a nice car stop in front of him and a good looking woman walk out of the car, he addressed a very nice smile towards her. Letting out a chuckle as she let out her comment about his looks and he smiled to her. ''Well, let's say I like to be eye pleasin' ya know? And you look fine yourself, I'm glad I get to meet you under better circumstances. My name is Deven, glad to meet you'' He was polite but not very official, he knew she wanted to get down to business, but he was the kinda guy that appreciated to get to know better the person who actually saved your life for a hefty sum, those kind of people were always good to have around.
Seeing as she diverted her glance towards the envelope he moved it and put it into his back pocket giving her a smile. He'd hear her out and shake his head. ''No no no, this is not enough for your payment, I won't be satisfied giving you only this, it would be impolite.'' He motioned his hand towards the bar 2 blocks away. ''I live on top the bar, your full payment waits for you there, but to give you a taste of whats coming your way'' He took the envelope again, and handed it to her, it was sealed shut but if she decided to open it, there was a debit card in it and other papers.''The account linked to the debit card is under the name of July Summens, you've got her passport her Social insurance number, the account is empty, we'll get to that once we get to my apartment.'' He started walking, thinking that there was no way in hell she wouldn't follow him. ''I'll be truthful, I saw the look in your face earlier on, and the fact you came back here for the money and life debt mean's you're not our ordinary woman who works in an office.'' He glanced over his shoulder and smiled. ''Working in a bar does have its advantages and debts are to be taken seriously, but secrecy is even more important, I'm sure you understand.'' He motioned with his hand the sidewalk, offering her to walk with him to his apartment for the rest of the payment.
Apparently his smart mouth wasn't just a product of blood loss. It continued in his sensible state with more coherency than earlier. Mina smirked slightly and then drove her features back to kindliness. The expression didn't last as he explained the envelope. Instead her normal smile appeared on her face in place of the kind and gentle version of a minute previous. She wasn't dealing with an ordinary fool. This one at least dabbled in her world and knew how the game was played. Well, that was fine. She dealt with these types regularly. He'd show his hand in time and Mina would decide how to deal with it.
However, he was playing with a professional and she just couldn't resist commenting after he finished talking and motioned toward his apartment over the bar.
"Seems like an awful lot of trouble to get a girl to come home with you. You sure spending that much on little old me is worth it? Even for a life debt?"
She was content to allow him to know about his supposed debt. He was treating this transaction in a manner befitting such things. Meanwhile, she tucked the envelope into her purse. It was useless without the rest of the payment and he'd made sure she knew that. At the very least she was going back to his place. Mina smirked to herself as she walked alongside the man she'd saved a few hours earlier. He was making tonight very...interesting.
Deven was a smart person, he knew what he wanted and he was trying to get the first piece of the puzzle in place, smart thing to do indeed. The man had his eyes locked on her face, noting her every facial reaction making sure he could try to guess what was behind her motives so he could get to her efficiently. She lost a smile for another smile, she understood his plan as he wanted her to understand his point of view, and to make sure she knew she saw the profit in it all. Deven was in fact 'one of those guys' but on the opposite he wasn't -with- those guy's he was the one man, standing alone in the middle trying to make his way to the top with his little bar and his business.
A smirk emerged on the side of his mouth, slowly turning into a large smile. ''Hell, every man has his methods doesn't he?'' A slight part of his plan was uncovered, he did like her a little and wanted to learn more about her but that game would be for another time. ''As for the life debt, we'll save that for walls without ears.'' He was being pre cautious a smart move.
He made sure she knew he was serious, and very serious at that. Part one of his plan had worked just fine, she was following him to his place and they could speak business there, he knew no one would eave's drop there and her payment was waiting for her in a neat suitcase.
On a casual note, since they were walking, he smirked and asked her out of no where. ''So, what's your favorite drink hmm?''
She matched him smirk for smirk as he countered her comment.
"Yes but the ones that lure women with money are generally sad, pathetic little men."
There was room for a shot at her in that comment but she refrained from following it up to see if he'd be foolish enough to take that bait. If he did he was either an idiot or simply failed at reading people. He had some intelligence at least. Sensitive topics were not to be discussed in public. That much she approved of. They walked a little further before he opened his mouth and asked her a question. Mina merely grinned at him.
"I don't have one. I just order whatever strikes me."
She said nothing of the fact that what struck her was always the most expensive thing the place in question offered. Not that such drinks were as a rule better. In fact she'd drunk a lot of high priced swill over the years. No, it was simply a quirk of hers.
"What about you barkeep? Any favorites?"
Might as well keep the conversation going. The more she knew about him the quicker she could decide if her was interesting enough to continue associating with or whether she'd cut her ties once she'd been paid. Not that his favorite drink would tell her anything important. That would just keep things moving.
Decided that staying polite was a good idea, he kept his smirk up before tossing yet another witty comment in her direction.
''I like to be the exception to those kind of rules''
He hoped he didn't go over any border, he just enjoyed teasing woman and making them feel the way they liked. He wasn't the kind of guy to say no to a woman who asked with a smile and a please.
Opening walking up to the doorman, Deven looked at him with a smile and the doorman answered with a chuckle, the idiot had thought the wrong thing once again, oh well he was there for his muscles in any case. Holding the door open for the woman to walk in Deven said ''Don't mind him, his mind is always in the gutter...'' He said rolling his eyes, not that he was any different but he knew where to put his priorities.
Hearing her question out he pondered for a second and replied on a whim. ''I do like Bloody Caesar alot but that's just me, want one?'' He looked at the guy behind the counter and made sure he'd give the lady what she wanted. Deven walked behind the counter, once again opening the door for the lady as he turned towards the wall and slid the wall revealing a door which seemed to lead to the second floor. Reaching the top of the stairway he ultimately opened the last door that led to his room, and strangely no sound from the music in the bar could be heard, after the door closed behind the woman.
The room itself was pretty bare, a bed a tv a pile of movies and an Xbox, a punching bag in a corner, a window in the other, no clothes to be found on the ground, he was an actual clean guy, beside his bed remained a closed door. In the plain middle of the room just about 2 meters from his bed a table was there, he took a chair and sat down, giving a look at the door making sure it was closed. ''Alright, let's talk, I'm sure you're not one for complete trivialities and frolicking.'' He took a gulp of his drink and let her begin the conversation from where she wanted.
He erred on the side of caution in the matter of the comment. This was a smart move. Not particularly interesting or exciting to Mina but smart none the less. Deven apologized for the bouncer at the door, whose mind he claimed resided permanently in the gutter. Mina simply grinned at him.
"What's the harm in a dirty thought now and then? Probably makes standing at the door a lot less boring."
They went behind the bar and up some stairs. Mina didn't bother ordering anything from the man at the bar. She wasn't thirsty at the moment. No she ascended the stairs and paid careful attention to her surroundings. Being as she always noticed anything to do with sound her senses alerted her the moment the door shut. His room was very well sound proofed. Mina filed that away at convenient for a number of purposes but not relevant at moment. He invited her to speak once the door was shut . Mina strolled over to the bed and sat down demurely on its edge.
"So talk. It's your life, your life debt, and your money we're discussing."
At his angle he'd be able to see the sheathe that held her knife. Mina knew this but did nothing to correct it. By now if he hadn't surmised that she was dangerous then he would need to learn quick. She kept her eyes and smile on him as she awaited his response.
Deven chuckled as he sat down to reply to her comment about the doorman. ''Well I suppose you are right but his thought was out of place and he prolly thought you were something I'd rather not name...not that I use those kind of services...on another note, you're money is under the mattress.'' If she'd lift the mattress at this point she'd see a place specially designed for such a purpose in the base of the bed, subtle and efficient. ''Include's a total of twenty thousand dollars.'' That, was pretty much his saving for year's but he didn't say anything, he tried to make it appear as nothing, of course he still had a few thousand left hidden somewhere but he decided that twenty grands were worth the effort she had given. ''As for the life debt, I don't think your life is in any kind of danger for the moment but I can offer multiple things. Leave you my phone number call me whenever your in need, until I die or I save your life. Now I found out that I can do pretty messed up things that I can't understand yet. Something else I can offer, I run a business and you dont seem like the kinda woman that's anywhere near needing any help. I noted that you like money alot, and with that briefcase I believe you can see I have the kind of money to pay for alot of things. I run a business where people sometimes need to disappear, or I need them to spill out information, that kind of business alot of people can handle. I could, make you work, find you alot of jobs where I would pay you big time until death or I save your life, but of course I'm always open to your point of view, if you have anything to say, I think both parties can end up on the winning side of this.'' Deven waited for her reply, he tried to explain everything as clearly as possible. Taking another gulp of his Bloody he set the empty glass aside and waited.
Mina left the money where it was at for the moment. No, what needed her attention more at the moment was Deven. Her eyebrow rose upward as she rose from the bed and strode confidently over to the table. She leaned across the table to stare him in the eyes. A finger darted forward to collide with his chest.
"And what makes you think you'll do any better than any of the other information dealers I work with?"
To say nothing of the contacts she'd made on her own back when she'd first started. Mina had impressed the right people and that spread by word of mouth. She had enough work to keep her busy and comfortable. And say nothing of it was what she did. Mina wanted to see what he could do without that tidbit. Deven would have to talk himself up more than that if he was going to catch her interest.
As Mina saw it, she had no need for a new broker when her current ones worked so well. He was just a mutant with an unknown mutation promising her things that she had no way of knowing if he could deliver on. She waited to see what his next tactic would be.
Deven looked at the woman, she let the money where it was, meaning he had interested her in a way, he hoped it was the good way. He looked at her walk towards the table and his natural smirk rose back to his lips. Her Finger darted towards his chest and he didn't move an inch, to protect its body the mutation created a blade under his shirt, not that he controlled it, so in the long run she poked a blade that was stuck to his chest. ''What in the hell?'' He said looking at his torso as he didn't control any of this.
''Information dealer's work against one another, soon enough they'll be in my web of information, and with people like you, I'll remain out of theirs, plenty of offers will rise against me, and I'll keep offering you double what they offer, if you see where I'm going, You'll be paid twice to give me the information about who wants to kill me, by them, and double what they offer.'' Showing his true colors he smiled wickedly for a second before going back to his usual smirk.
Deven was really messing with the pyramid and shit would hit the fan, meaning that there would be contracts against him for sure, when you mess with this kind of people, you better be ready to have mobsters against you. Turning his smirk into a smile. ''Besides, I bet the other dealer's don't have a life debt to you, meaning I'll never put up anything against you, but they can if you get in their way.'' Deven was explaining his point of view, he knew that this woman, was the first thing he needed if his organization was to get any serious, he had alot of stuff ready, he needed the quick start.
Instead of his chest she ended up poking a blade. Well that told her his mutation at the cost of a tiny cut that was perhaps the size of a paper cut. A bead of blood welled from the opening in her flesh and Mina brought brought the injured finger tip to her mouth and sucked the blood off of it mostly on reflex. Judging by his reaction he had no clue how his mutation worked. She chose not to comment on it. Mostly because she had no wish to enter a conversation about mutations at the moment. Instead she thought over his offer.
She'd be an information source and likely a threat to any that would oppose him. In exchange she'd be paid well and he claimed that his life debt meant that he wouldn't sell her out. Mina doubted that highly but decided not to voice that opinion either. It was a good offer, though she didn't like the way it was made. His assurance was somewhat grating, as though he knew what she'd say and knew what to say to get her to agree. It would be beneficial to her, for now. Plus, he was still quite mortal. It wouldn't be too hard to put him down if she decided to do so.
"Ok. I think we can make that deal."
Mina turned and retrieved her money from where he'd indicated it would be. Of course she counted it thoroughly too. If he was offended then he'd just have to get over it. That was Mina's way and not even the most powerful crimelords of the city had broken her of it.
Deven really couldn't control any aspect of his power at the moment, but right there, he had a thought of how it worked, she wanted to poke him, he didn't know how hard, wanted to protect himself but didn't, so his body thought of another way, he had to work on that after she had left.
He kept his glance on her as she cut herself, a frown appeared on his face as he shrugged. ''Sorry...I really didn't mean that'' And infact he did. He would be sad if she told him she wasn't fine with the deal but she accepted non the less, end's up better on his end, he would get his henchmen and she would get her money, all was well.
''Well, let me know how to reach you and I'll give you your first assignment'' He smiled taking another small yellow envelope. ''Alongside half the payment of the said assignment'' Another smirk appeared on his face, he loved being right and she probably knew it by this point. In the suitcase she picked from under his mattress was stacks of 100 dollar bills, each stack holding 1000 dollars, for a total of 20 stacks, he didn't rip her off on the first payment, would be a bad thing to do. ''Future payments will be done on miss's Summen's bank account, I hope you don't mind.''
He confirmed that he had no idea how to utilize his power when he apologized. That gave her something of an idea of his current abilities. The blade hadn't been that sharp. She'd simply been unlucky enough to poke the very point of it fairly hard. On the bright side he probably couldn't call them up at will yet. However his power had demonstrated that it or rather he instinctively protected himself. Deven asked for a way to reach her and Mina smirked. This guy was a lot more her speed than the last one she'd given her number to. Mina opened her purse and pulled a card with a cell phone number on it out.
"Here."
The card was laid on the table. It was devoid of her name or anything but the number. She used these for her clients as well. Since he was technically a client he would get one. Maybe eventually he'd connect her with Mute by way of the card. That wasn't something to worry about though. He probably already had a fair idea of her profession. She'd just have to kill him before he could tell anyone else Mute's identity. Mina hadn't avoided the police all this time to be done in by Deven. The money in the case was all in order and he told her that any future payments for jobs would go into the bank account that he'd given her the information for.
"What's one more bank account?"
Mina had many of them and in fact had a couple that were entirely legitimate that she used solely for cash for stock market transactions. Being a woman that cared about her finances like she was, Mina preferred to have her bases covered should jobs dry up for a time. Between the money in her accounts and the income from her stocks she'd have plenty to keep her for some time if that occurred.
Deven was a quick man not to be compared with anyone and everyone. Deven move his hand forward to take a look at the card and add the phone number to his cell phone while making no comment about the missing name, smirking he up Miss Summens in his cellphone. ''Well Miss Summens, it's been a pleasure doing business with you.' He gave her a smile, not that he thought she bothered about it at any point but he was being polte. He reached for a case in his back pocket and sprung a card from it, leaving her his number and full name. ''You know its always a good thing when a girl give's you her number on the first date.'' He'd chuckle and smirk waiting for her comment.
''One more or one less, as long as both of ours go up.'' He smiled shrugging as his phone started to ring. He opened it. ''I hope this is really important, no? Good bye'' He closed it, trivial matters weren't of interest at the moment. Deven had his own few, and his steady income of money from buying and selling shares on the market, he delved in alot of things to keep money rolling, when profit was there to be made, he was there.
Mina took the offered card and proceeded to add the information to her work cell phone. She kept her work and personal business separate. It was simpler that way, even if her personal phone only got calls every so often. At the comment about getting her number on the first date Mina moved in very close to the man.
"This wasn't a first date. In fact it wasn't even remotely close. If this were a date, then chances are good there would be less clothing involved right about now."
She winked at him and gave him back the personal space she'd taken. Without missing a beat, Mina moved on seamlessly into responding to his next comment.
"True. The number doesn't matter so much as the direction they are headed in."
She chuckled at the fate of whoever was on the other end of that phone. It amused her somewhat that he wasn't even willing to spend half a second listening to whoever that had been. His business with her was apparently more important. That pleased her.
