The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam smirked and shrugged slightly at the nonexistent boyfriend and the comment she made about Sam off handily asking about him. ”I don’t know what your talking about, this is strictly police business…” Sam said coyly made mental note that she was single and he could act accordingly. Sure if she was spoken for he’d flirt with her but now? Sam smirked as he looked away from her, and to the waitress who was now standing somewhat impatient next to their table even though that she had just arrived.
Waiting to comment on her experience with being in front of the barrel of a gun before Sam looked to Cosmina and gestured towards her letting her know that she can order first, ladies first and all that. Once Cosmina ordered, Sam ordered a pint for himself and then looked back to his witness, ”She seems a bit put off…” Sam said scratching the spot next to his patch a habit he had developed recently when he was tired.
”So what you were saying about being in front of a barrel before?” Sam asked as he placed his hands on the table before him as he folded his fingers together and he leaned in slightly to the table as his good eye was fixed on the woman before him, ”call me curious…” Sam said as he smirked slightly in her direction, ”Your not your every day girl are you?” noting that most women he rescued would have started to scream and or start to cry and go into damsel mode once the gun was pointed.
Mina obliged Sam's disavowal of any ulterior motive in asking about her nonexistent boyfriend with a laugh. In all likelihood he was simply determining whether or not it would be appropriate to pursue her beyond mere flirtations. Mina decided not to make a retort to that statement. He ought to know quite well from her laugh that she thought he was lying.
Sam gestured for her to order first and so Mina did. She selected a random beer from those on tap and that was that. She did note though that the waitress seemed a little annoyed. Mina shrugged it off. If it was going to be trouble it could be dealt with later. Sam had also noticed it, since he commented on the fact.
"So she does."
In response to his she smirked briefly.
"Just that I've been there often enough to know not to freeze up or panic."
He then accused her of not being an everyday girl. That truly made her laugh. A long joyous laugh that held nothing but amusement at his statement.
"What was your first clue?" she grinned widely, "I've been in my fair share of scrapes."
Not that most of them had put up a decent fight but then again she generally caught them entirely off guard.
"What about you? You hardly seem...inexperienced."

Sam tried not to let out a single chuckle as Cosmina asked about him, ”It’s kinda my thing, some people work in an office all day others in a car, and then there’s me, I save women who don’t need saving apparently.” this time he did let out a small laugh at his own comment. Shifting his gaze away from Cosmina only for a moment he noticed that their waitress was coming back in hand and an even more sour look on her face, she was clearly irritated now and didn’t bother trying to show it as she set the drinks down in front of them and walked off into the back kitchen.
Sam blinked and then looked to Cosmina and shrugged again, ”…Any who…” Sam lifted his drink and took the first sip and then set it down, ”My first clue you sat on your car hood, most woman don’t do that when a gun is pointing at them.” Sam smirked again and then shifted his eye briefly as the front door opened and a few men walked in with just as sour looks on their faces as their waitress. Making note not to comment this time however Sam looked back to Cosmina and refrained from staring seeing as one of the men who just entered was on a wanted poster in the police station for car jackings.
Just his luck, he tries to get a little police work done and then the bad guys show up. Just his luck it seemed. Taking another sip of his drink and then focusing back on Cosmina as the men who just entered sat down at a table near by Sam asked, ”So, your line of work calls for you to be in a fair share of scrapes or is it more of a hobby?” Sam asked curiously as he could feel the eyes of the four men that just walked in.
Mina took a drink when the clearly angry waitress brought them their beverages.
"Sounds like an exciting line of work."
Mina listened as Sam told her that his first clue that she wasn't a normal woman came when she'd sat on the hood of her car instead of panicking. If that was the case then a normal woman must be boring. At least his definition of one anyway. As Sam was talking a few men with a similar expression to the waitress walked in the door and sat nearby.
"More of a hobby I'm afraid."
Mina gave a glance at the men and then returned her gaze to Sam. Yes she was lying again. Cosmina Stanton wasn't a mercenary. She probably had a normal job in a bad neighborhood and as a result ended up in bad situations one after another. Cosmina Stanton was a normal woman made tough by bad luck. She'd be an excellent guise for this particular meeting. Mina lowered her voice so that it wouldn't carry beyond their table.
"And by the looks of things you'll have some work to do in a minute or two."
Best not to tip off the angry looking group of fellows that had walked in that they'd been noticed. Of course Cosmina refused to let Sam have all the fun. At least one of these fools was going to learn not to mess with her .

”A hobby?” Sam said with a smile enjoying this little game of round about answers they have been giving each other, ”If that is a hobby your occupation must be fascinating.” Sam said nodding his head slightly as the air around them got a bit colder as he was activating his sixth sense feeling all the body heat in the tavern. Some body signatures stood out a bit more than others.
A grin directed towards Cosmina formed when she commented, ”You mean you aren’t going to need me to save you?” Sam asked shaking his head, ”Gathered as much…” Leaning in towards the table and placing his hands in the center of it he leaned over his drink and waited a second to see if Cosmina would play along or sit back.
”I recognized one of the guys when he walked in, similar crimes to our friend that we left with the police couldn’t be found anywhere… drinks with a beautiful woman, and a possible lead on the chop shop!” Sam’s attention shifter while one of the waitresses walked over to the table where the new comers had sat down. Picking up his drink he took a long draft and decided to play the waiting game, knowing that if they did happen to see his show from earlier with one of their friends they would be acting soon enough.
Mina returned Sam's smile with a wider one of her own.
"Oh indeed it is. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world."
She felt the temperature dip a little after she said this. Sam must have been using his mutation for something. What she didn't know. Mina chuckled at his next set of comments.
"I can take care of myself well enough. You just see that you don't get that handsome face cut up. I'd hate to see it damaged."
Sam seemed almost happy by this turn of events. One of the men that had strolled in was a car jacker like the fool that he'd seen to out in the street. Apparently getting a lead in the case was icing on the cake for him. Mina simply grinned and leaned in as he had done a few moments earlier. It seemed they were waiting for the volcano to erupt as it were. Whatever was going to happen would happen soon.
"I must admit this is probably one of the most exciting rounds of drinks I've had."
Not counting any drinking on the job to maintain cover of course.

Sam’s smirked remained on his face as he reached up and touched his chin, ”Please, this is the money maker, the last thing I need is to get it cut up.” Sam’s tone was mock and his voice was low as he waited for things to continue behind him. All it took was some patience and eventually things would progress to the point where he could act and then arrest the thuggish looking guys that just entered the bar.
”Stick around, I’m sure this will be a memorable evening for you I like to think I keep things interesting.” Sam said as he gave Cosmina a small nod followed by a tilt of his head and quickly closing his eye hoping it would be obvious he was winking at her. It was defiantly still very difficult to wink, often it looked like Sam had a nervous twitch but with all this banter he had with Cosmina he had a feeling she would know what he was doing.
Reaching for her hands and clapping one hand on hers Sam reached for his drink and took another sip noticing the sudden change in the positioning of the body heat. It seemed they were getting up. No longer sitting Sam didn’t move from where he was sitting only straightened up releasing his hand on Cosmina’s. It seemed they bought his supposed distraction. Taking another sip from his mug Sam didn’t react when the biggest guy who was walking closer quickly shifted his wrist and pulled something from his pocket.
Another few steps and Sam closed his eye and lowered his mug not really showing he was aware what was happening. The largest man swung and Sam leaned to the side of the booth and saw a small metal ball attached to an extendable black baton followed by a large fist swing over head. Even if he had the wall of the booth behind him if he didn’t duck he would have easily been knocked out.
The baton continued to swing till it hit the wall next to him. Reaching up as the hand was attempting to recover from the swing Sam’s hand reached up and latched onto the fist. ”Looks like things just got more entertaining for you!” Sam said directed towards Cosmina as the other figures started to make their way towards the isle where the booth opened. The hand Sam was holding onto struggled as Sam remained latched onto the hand attempting to remove the weapon from the brutes hand.
Sam kept up with her banter as he had been doing since they'd met in the street. The money-maker huh? She smirked a little and reached over toward him to run a finger along his jawline.
"Well then we'll just have to keep it safe tonight won't we? I think I could manage to protect you."
Mina took another drink of her own beer. A memorable evening huh? Well it was already off to a good start. He'd taken her for drinks and now they had the promise of a fight looming on the horizon. It was much more entertaining than other outings she'd been on. Sam put one hand over hers for a space of a few moments before removing it as the men finally began to move. He'd noticed them, Mina was sure of this as she noticed his back straighten. The job he did of acting as though they hadn't alerted him was admirable. Likewise, Mina kept her own face smiling and her eyes directed toward Sam.
When the baton swiped through the air and hit wall Mina was on her way out of the booth. Sam could handle the baton waver. She'd take the other two that were approaching. They were the more immediate concerns than the one behind them. All told their attackers numbered four.
Since it was near at hand the closest to her, a burly man with a mustache, got a face full of beer from her mug. Cosmina followed this with with a sweep kick to the man's shins. There was enough power behind it unbalance him and allow Mina to put him on the floor with another kick.
"You do know how to show a girl a good time! Though you might want to pick someone tougher next time!" There was a grin, wide and playful across Mina's face as she taunted Sam, "I'll try to leave another one for you once you finish with him!"

It was funny when she joked she would protect him he thought it was just that a joke. He had no idea she would actually take anyone down or willingly charge towards the other three men. Figures most if not all the women Sam met were anything but typical she seemed she would be added to the ranks of abnormal. Smirking Sam twisted the wrist of the larger man with the baton and he dropped it. The baton landed on Sam’s chest and he shifted so it would continue to roll onto the floor.
Now it was his turn to act. Paying attention to the man whose hand he had in his grip the one eyed ice mutant noticed Cosmina had already swept a man off his feet with a kick. ”Trying, doesn’t seem to mean much…” Sam said as he threw the burly mans hand into the wall of the booth. He let out a cry and attempt to free his wrist from Sam’s grip but failed. Another throw into the wall Sam followed his action up with little icing on the cake. Not aware of what Sam was doing the man shook quickly trying to free his wrist but again failed. His wrist was trapped to the wall.
Sliding out of the booth and to his feet he shifted his attention for a moment to Cosmina who was already on her next target, the first one didn’t seem to give her much of a problem but then again he doubted most of these men could give her much of a problem. Turning his attention back to the first one Sam stepped a few times towards him and threw a fist to the man's stomach trying to knock the wind out of him. Unfortunately for Sam the thug wasn’t fazed by the punch, instead he threw his free hand in Sam’s direction. The large hand came down and missed as Sam stepped out of the way then jumped back to his former position pushing the other hand to the back of the booth.
Another quick activation of the mutation and his other hand was trapped. Struggling more now the man attempted to push off the booth with one of his feet but only managed to get that one stuck as Sam iced that one over. Turning his attention away from the first thug Sam ran over to the man that Cosmina had knocked down and proceeded to freeze his limbs to the ground so he couldn’t escape. ”I best be careful, you might sweep me off my feet.”
Mina spared Sam a glance and grin. He seemed to be doing well enough for himself. The moron that had started the fight was already pinned to the wall courtesy of some ice.
"I can't help it if they are all too weak to provide a challenge for me. They just need to get better or learn not to pick fights they can't win."
Mina selected another combatant and turned her focus to him. He was much more wary than the first. It was one thing if they thought they could catch her and use her as a hostage or other such nonsense. However she had just demonstrated that she was in fact dangerous. The man that she had easily put on the floor attested to that. He wouldn't be getting back up either thanks to Sam. That ice power of his was coming in handy. She smirked at his comment.
"I'll be careful then. Wouldn't want you to fall too hard."
That said she lashed out at her selected victim with a series of three kicks. The first and second didn't connect but he could not dodge the third and Mina's foot connected with the man's stomach. He retaliated by swinging at her. Mina simply ducked under the punch. Such pathetic fighters these fools were.

”I’m sure they were banking on catching me off guard and the fact that I was alone…” Sam said finishing the freezing on the first man Cosmina knocked down while his back was turned to her. Despite where he was looking his sixth sense still made it possible for him to see everything going on around him. Cosmina and he her new dance partner and then the guy who was attempting to rush Sam from behind with his arms out attempting to tackle Sam to the ground.
Sidestepping and leaving his currently iced over foot at the last minute Sam managed to trip the thug who managed one more step before he tried to upright himself and crash into the wall. Letting out a small chuckle Sam grinned and shot a quick beam over to his hands freezing him to the ground, which meant there was one left by his count.
Not turning around yet Sam watched Cosmina attempt to knock him down with a kick to the stomach. Unfortunately it didn’t have enough power behind it but all in all she was a pretty skilled fighter and she wasn’t lying when she said they weren’t much of a match for her. ”Takes a lot to make me fall!” Sam retorted back quickly.
Sadly he had to end it soon because odds were someone or something was going to get broken most likely by Cosmina because she seemed far more skilled even if she didn’t have the power she managed to dictate the fight by moving. Turning on his heel and slamming a hand on the ground unleashing his mutation the tiled floor they were standing on iced over quickly. A few steps and he was ready to catch Cosmina if she was about to fall cause the last thing he wanted to do was sweep her off her feet.
Mina grinned wider at his assessment of why their attackers sucked quite as much as they did.
"Then they are as stupid as they are bad in a fight. There is no such thing as overkill."
Of course she tried to avoid using a lot of force in a fight simply because it tended to be expensive. However expensive was a small trade off in exchange for the assurance that someone she'd killed would stay dead.
Mina recovered quickly from ducking under the punch, using the opportunity to abuse the man's midsection some more with a punch that landed just below his ribs. He in turn attempted strike her with a knee to the face but Mina was very well versed in kicks due to her savate training and simply blocked it. She then used his knee as leverage to return to a full standing position quickly.
Most of Mina's attention was on her fight. It wouldn't take too much longer to wrap up. The man was wearing down and barely looked like he could throw a punch. That was her in opinion very sad. His girlfriend or boyfriend must have been very disappointed. Mina was about to say something to that affect when the floor iced up beneath her feet. Another display of Sam's powers. Mina knew better than to attempt anything on the suddenly slick surface. Even with Sam behind her, something that cause Mina to smirk, she didn't want to leave an opening for her opponent. While Mina remained in a ready position and did nothing the goon attempted to attack. He overextended and lost his balance. After a few precious moments of comical pinwheeling with his arms he fell flat on his face.

All were down now all except Cosmina something he hadn’t been expecting and at the same time wasn’t surprised she would be the only other one beside him to be on her feet. Grinning and looking over to the guys on the ground Sam shifted the ice on the ground covering the tile to shift and move towards the thugs that were now beaten down.
Now covered in ice Sam sighed and stood up straight and placed his hand on Cosmina’s back, ”That was impressive!” Sam said as he nodded his head, ”Whoever taught you how to fight did a good job!” removing his hand from her back Sam walked over to the biggest guy who was taken down by Cosmina. ”Guess I got to call this in…”
Sighing and turning to his new friend Sam shrugged, ”Afraid we might need to cut tonight short, I need to wait around again and I’m sure you have some other places you need to be other than waiting for me to get off work.” then again he never really did get off of work.
”Gonna be a lot of paper work…” Sam said placing hands at his hips and turning around to face Cosimina, ”and I hope I see you again, it was defiantly a interesting time,” Sam said offering his hand in a handshake towards Cosmina waiting till she shook it.
A lazy shrug was Mina's response to CS's compliment about her fighting ability. The fight was over, the thugs were down, and now as he was in league with the cops he had to call it in. That was fine. She'd be long gone before the cops showed up. Twice in one night was too much chance. There was no saying that the next bunch that responded wouldn't be the ones that had responded to the theft. It was a very minor chance but Mina hadn't lived this long by taking those chances without knowing more. As such she preferred to get out of there.
"I have a good teacher who has had plenty of experience in fighting. He's served me well."
Thankfully Sam was quite willing to allow her to leave. He was right in surmising that she wouldn't want to want until he got off of work.
"It's alright. The chance to fight along side some capable back up was well worth the trouble of putting a few fools on the floor."
Sam extended a hand for a handshake and expressed an interest in seeing her again. She suspected he would see her again. The question was would it be over a dinner table or the barrel of her gun? Having fluid alliances tended to see to it that a person she had fought beside one day frequently ended up dead by her hand the next. She grasped the hand that was offered.
"Oh I'm certain we'll meet again."
As Mina made to let go and walk away she felt instead Sam tug her toward him. She would have been as idiotic as the men they'd fought if she didn't realize what he was going to do. Therefore she allowed the ice wielding mutant to kiss her and returned it with interest. He was after all handsome. If he got too clingy or caught on to her business then she could simply kill him or make sure that he didn't see her again. Upon parting from him she withdrew a small business card with the number for one of her non-business cell phones on it and pressed it into his hand.
"In case you'd like to try this again some time."
With that Mina sashayed out of the bar and headed toward her car, bathed in the red and blue lights that indicated the arrival of the police.
