The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain explained what the Danger Room was. A glorified training room and gym according to him. Andrew wasn't prepared for what he saw though when Gawain opened the door. For a moment or two it seemed as though Sam wasn't there and they'd have to hunt him down somewhere else. Then chaos erupted in front of him. Sam, the same man who had been so effective in the alleyway that day, was plummeting to earth. He was clearly in some sort of fight and it was nothing Andrew wanted a part of.
Frankly what he was seeing was some scary stuff. Andrew would have been dead a hundred times over in just the brief glimpse they'd caught of the fight. If this was training Andrew didn't want to see a real battle. He glanced over to Kate to see what she was thinking of this and what he saw made him push his own trepidation aside. She was even worse off than he was. Her eyes were squeezed shut and her hands over her ears. Lord she looked terrified. Andrew slid an arm around her shoulders. He leaned in close so his words wouldn't be too loud.
"It's alright Kate. Sam's fine. Crazy I think but fine."
Though Andrew personally didn't see how the man had survived that fall and the subsequent actions. Either his mutation included a lot more than ice or he was some kind of uber commando. He was going to be working for that guy, if the interview went well. Andrew forced himself to calm down and put any doubts he had aside. Kate needed help right now more than he did. Besides, Sam or Gawain one would explain shortly. At least they'd better.
Well, Gawain was wrong. Sam was in the danger room, getting his ass handed to him by a bunch of holograms he had no doubt designed himself. That's gotta hurt.
"Showoff." Gawain muttered with a grin as the X-boss landed and made a friggin' crater in the ground. Boy was that a neat visual effect.
Angua, on the other hand, did not enjoy the show; ears flat and tail between her legs she backed out of the danger room, barking at a high-pitched voice as she retreated.
>>”Gawain! Who are you with?”
"Yo, Sam, ya're scarin' the kids." Gawain said as he walked into the Danger Room, sidestepping some spiked Red sent his way.
"If ya're gonna get kicked into next week at least ya could've made the enemy look hotter..." he smirked.
"I am hot!" Red interjected
"...and smarter."
The sonic boom got Gawain from the side; he flew quite a few feet before he flipped in the air and landed on his feet, tircker style.
"Sam, there's a new girl lookin' to talk to you. Couldya just, y'know, freeze them?" he asked with a grin, nodding towards their opponents.

Boomer closed the distance and opened his mouth fast and inhaled, however before he could get a boom off Sam ducked and sidestepped to his back, the effects of the three on one perks still giving his body a bit more speed than three he was practicing with. Sam was currently under less gravity than the others, not only increasing his speed but his power as well (reason he didn’t get hurt from the impact). Turning around once at Boomer’s back Sam grabbed onto the back of his head and turned his face towards Red who was coming in fast.
Unable to control once charged Boomer fired off a boom and red went flying in the opposite direction. Kicking Boomer in the back of the leg Sam threw a knife hand to the lowered neck of Boomer and he went down fast. Jumping back (far normal than should have been possible) Sam landed a few feet from the three that just arrived. ”Right on time Gawain!” Sam said with a smirk that turned into a more serious look when he turned his gaze to Andrew and the young woman.
”Can’t pause the simulation unfortunately, not till it’s over! Which is why I’m glad you’re here!” tapping Gawain on the shoulder than turning slightly throwing Gawain towards the center of the danger room. Gawain under the effects of the session bonus on the user should have flown further than possible ”I can however tag a person in to take my place…” Sam laughed slightly, [”Your it!”
Looking back to the young woman and Andrew with a smile on his face like this was all part of the daily life in the mansion Sam looked to Andrew first and extended his hand, ”Pleasure to see you again Andrew, I take it we can get you working here?” Sam asked expectedly before turning to the young woman, ”and Gawain tells me your looking to talk to me? What can I help you with?”
>>It's alright Kate. Sam's fine. Crazy I think but fine.
Kate barely heard Andrew over the sound of her own beating heart, but once the word fine registered in her head she looked up quickly and saw that he was right. Sam was not only still standing but was back to fighting.
She watched as things moved quickly. She figured this must have been what watching an action movie must have been like. He moved around quickly dodging and out smarting his opponents.
Would Kate have to learn how to do this at this school? Could she learn how to do this?
Sam seemed to glide around the floor before stopping only feet from them.
>>Right on time Gawain! Can’t pause the simulation unfortunately, not till it’s over! Which is why I’m glad you’re here!I can however tag a person in to take my place…Your it!
Kate watched wide eyed as Sam threw Gawain into the craziness. She looked back and forth between Sam and Gawain a little surprised the adult would do such a thing without a second thought.
>>And Gawain tells me your looking to talk to me? What can I help you with?
"Um..." Kate took a second to regain her composure, "Yes.... I'm Katherine Stanley Finch-Hatton." Kate offered Sam her hand.

Sam just flung Gawain into the middle of that chaos. Andrew wasn't even paying attention to the individual movements anymore. Sam and Gawain seemed pretty comfortable with it so he tried not to be too worried. However it was difficult to reconcile desire not to worry with what his eyes were seeing. Andrew just wasn't used to seeing people in danger like that. Even after what had happened with Mittens, or perhaps especially so, it was harrowing. However his boss was here and paying attention to him now so Andrew suppressed his nervousness as best he could. Sam offered him his hand and Andrew shook it firmly.
"Nice to see you too Sam. That's right, I had a good think about it and decided to take you up on that job offer. If it still stands that is. Well that and a certain blonde empath dragged me here."
Andrew gave a sort of grin and left the talking to Sam and Kate. This was about getting her settled in after all. He stayed attentive to the fact that Sam was right there but let his mind wander a little. He'd take a look over at Gawain now and then to see how he was doing and then focus back on the conversation in front of him. Maybe they could get the question of Andrew's employment taken care of once Kate's sign up was dealt with. That would be good. A steady source of income would be nice.
>>”Right on time Gawain! Can’t pause the simulation unfortunately, not till it’s over! Which is why I’m glad you’re here!... I can however tag a person in to take my place… Your it!”
"Aw, Sam, come ON!" Gawain groaned as he was tagged, and thrown into the battle "That ain't fair..."
And that was about all he could manage before he became occupied with saving his butt from being kicked by a bunch of holograms in front of a girl and the new guy, which, let's face it, would have been pretty embarrassing. So, Gawain did what the program was designed to make him do. He kicked @ss.
Let's give the newbies something to stare at.
(OOC: you can skip Gawain from now on. He's quite busy collecting bruises. )

Hearing Gawain’s cries about it not being fair Sam smirked and shook Andrew’s hand firmly before smiling at the news of Andrew taking him up on his offer for a job. Upon the mention of a blonde empath Sam nodded his head briefly and added, ”I’ll have to thank Kealey then,” Sam said as he turned to the young woman who was still giving off more body heat than everyone in the room combined.
Wincing slightly Sam severed his control with the temperature due to the young woman who offered him her hand having such high body heat signatures. ”Ahh!” Sam said taking the young woman’s hand and lifted it and bowed and in the process kissed it. It was something he figured was needed seeing as she was probably used to it from the way her mother make her sound. After he kissed it he smiled and shook in a more informal shake before he let it go. ”Miss Finch-Hatton, I finally get to meet you!” he took a step back and took her full image in with his good eye and smiled, ”Your mother made you seem smaller…” they way she made it sound wasn’t to reassuring she was very… Adamant on making sure Sam or at least another member of the mansion attended to almost every odd request Katherine would make.
It was something Sam didn’t think much upon because even if she lived the life of nobility or a bum she would be able to fend for her self soon enough. Watch out for boys, make sure she was safe and make sure she had her own room with her own thermostat. Most of the other request Sam had either forgotten or ignored because she was after all a teen. ”I’ve heard a bit about you from your mother, your room was already set up and you have your own thermostat.”
Pausing and looking to Gawain who seemed to be handling the session quite well Sam called out, ”Up the level of intelligence and mutation!” he turned back to Andrew and Katherine, ”Now shall we go to my office and get you both situated, Andrew if it is alright with you I want you to join us so you can see what exactly you’d be helping me with." Before they could respond however he walked towards the danger room exit, ”Gawain is a big boy, he has dealt with far worse!”
>>Miss Finch-Hatton, I finally get to meet you! Your mother made you seem smaller…
Kate looked at him a little confused. Why would he think... Then it dawned on her. Her mother must have put so many restrictions on her that he has just assumed she was a small child with a lot of problems. It was just perfect that the apparent head of the school thought she was a child or a girl who most certainly couldn't take care of herself.
>>I’ve heard a bit about you from your mother, your room was already set up and you have your own thermostat.
"Fantastic, thank you." Kate put on a smile but was absolutely livid. Her skin started to heat up and was putting out almost all of it's 200 degrees. For some reason when she got mad all control she had over her body temperature went out the window. It was like the fire in her ignited flashing in her eyes and heating up the space around her. She was like a walking space heater when she was upset.
>>Up the level of intelligence and mutation! Now shall we go to my office and get you both situated, Andrew if it is alright with you I want you to join us so you can see what exactly you’d be helping me with. Gawain is a big boy, he has dealt with far worse!
Kate didn't even think about the boy they were leaving behind and the danger he was in as she followed Sam out the door. She was to mad to think about anything other then the necessary.

So Kealey would be getting thanks for dragging him to the mansion. Andrew smirked a little and then watched Sam greet Kate with a slight bow and a kiss on the hand. Was he that smooth with all women? Andrew just gave a mental shrug. So his boss was charming, so what? Sam and Kate talked a little bit and it became clear that Kate's mother had made her seem younger than she was. That didn't appear to sit well with Kate at all. She smiled and responded but her tone was slightly off. Andrew didn't envy the English girl's mother the next time they talked.
Once the pleasantries were taken care of Same headed for the door. They were heading to his office to get this whole thing finished up. Andrew glanced over to Gawain but he nodded in the affirmative when Sam asked, or told, him to come along. Before Andrew could say anything Sam turned for the exit with a statement that Gawain could handle himself. That didn't seem likely, considering the mess Sam had made. Maybe everyone here was just that good.
Kate followed Sam without even a glance at Gawain. Andrew gave the mirror walking guy a wave and followed them. Sam had said he'd be seeing what his work would entail. Missing that would not make a good impression. That and Andrew was curious. He was curious about his job, which hadn't really been explained other than saying that he'd be Sam's assistant. He was curious about Sam too. Andrew didn't know the man all that well. One meeting wasn't really conducive to knowing much beyond someone's name.

Even if Sam didn’t have any eyes it would have been obvious how upset Kate really was. The temperature around her and by variation within a few feet from her started to heat up to the point where Sam thought it be best to position himself between her and Andrew. Exiting the room and entering the hallway Sam activated his own aspect of his mutation to cool the area around him and Andrew, even though he wasn’t right next to Andrew the cold would still reach him and help counter act Kate’s ability. Sure it wasn’t as cold enough to fully nullify the heat she was giving off but it was enough to keep Andrew from burning.
”Ah, Miss Finch-Hatton I’ll have to ask you to tone it down a bit, I don’t want Andrew getting a heat stroke followed by hypothermia, I have high hopes for him and it would be a shame for him to get scared off.” with that he decided to take the stairs back to his office instead of keeping Andrew in an enclosed space with both Kate and himself. Sam could handle it as well as Kate but Andrew, he doubted his mutation of keeping promises could keep him from one extreme to the next.
After Sam reached the first floor he pushed open the door out into the hallway and walked to his room, first thing was first paperwork always needed to be done and seeing he had his new assistant it was time for Sam to get the ball rolling. ”Andrew, you’ll essentially be my assistant. Seeing as Tricity is so busy with everything I have to do some of the paper work, nothing along the lines of grades or schooling but just the residency information and a few other smaller things…” he left some other information out stuff that might in fact scare Andrew away.
Walking over to his desk and sitting in his chair Sam opened up the drawer and pulled out the residency information he had partially pulled out and placed it on the desk, ”Have a seat.” Sam said pointing to the chairs across from the desk from him. ”First thing is first, Kate you have some information to fill out on this sheet and I want you to be honest, focus for the most part on your mutation and what you can do. Your mother told me a bit about it but I have a feeling you know more than her seeing as it is yours.”
Sam looked to Andrew, ”You’ll be helping me get new residents situated in the mansion, includes tours, paper work and people skills.” Sam smiled, ”You’re a nice person and we need nice people to work as greeters.” sliding a pen across the table to Kate with a smile he sat back in his chair, ”Tell me about yourself, I want to hear it from you. Not your mother.”
>>Ah, Miss Finch-Hatton I’ll have to ask you to tone it down a bit, I don’t want Andrew getting a heat stroke followed by hypothermia, I have high hopes for him and it would be a shame for him to get scared off.
Kate looked at him confused before she realized the temp change around her. She hadn't even noticed she was doing it though in her defense her mother made her do that all the time and she never seemed to notice then either, "Sorry," She lowered it to a normal level and started to shake form the cold around her, which in turn made her raise it again. This time to something much less dangerous for the people around her. They may feel a little warm, but nothing that would hurt them like all 200 of her degrees would do.
>>Andrew, you’ll essentially be my assistant. Seeing as Tricity is so busy with everything I have to do some of the paper work, nothing along the lines of grades or schooling but just the residency information and a few other smaller things… Have a seat. First thing is first, Kate you have some information to fill out on this sheet and I want you to be honest, focus for the most part on your mutation and what you can do. Your mother told me a bit about it but I have a feeling you know more than her seeing as it is yours.
Kate took the paper and glanced it over as Sam addressed Andrew.
>>Tell me about yourself, I want to hear it from you. Not your mother.
"I guess I could start with explaining my power." Kate thought for a moment to find the best words to make others understand something she tended to show instead of tell, "I guess I should start with the simplest way to explain before I get into all the specific details. The only way I know how to describe it in the least words possible is for me to say that I am a being of elemental fire, but that really isn't true. I am not made of fire. If you were to X-ray me you would see what you see on every other person in the world, bones and organs. The only real difference if my body temperature, as I believe you have noticed Mr. Johnson. My body temperature is believed to be about 93 degrees Celsius or 200 degrees Fahrenheit, just below the boiling point. Dr. O'Donnell believes that it could even raise more as a get older. He thinks that is has never stopped rising, just slowed dramatically much like the growth of the human body, and before you ask, I was born with a high temperature and it was rising until a few years ago. The fire didn't come around until I was 10. For my father it didn't happen until he was shortly 13," Kate looked from Sam to Andrew and paused so it could soak in. There was still much more but people could only take so much at once.

As Andrew followed Sam and Kate from the Danger Room he noticed two things in quick succession. First, it was really hot around Kate. Not in the sense that she was really good looking or anything, she was but that wasn't the point. No, it was more temperature that he was thinking of. Something had likely gotten her riled. Then as soon as he noticed it it cooled down some. The cool that was countering Kate's heat seemed to be coming from Sam. Well, the man was an ice manipulator so it made sense.
Sam asked Kate to tone down the heat for Andrew's sake. What he noticed more was that Sam said that he had high hopes for him. He did? Really? Andrew wondered why but he didn't question it.
"A little extra heat isn't gonna scare me off Sam."
He'd been much scarier things than a heat wave since he'd last seen Sam. Once they got to Sam's office and the man had sat down he explained Andrew's job. Essentially was an interesting word to use. The way he let the sentence drop after 'and other things...' made Andrew wonder if he wasn't trying to hold back some things. That was fine. Once again, a lot had happened since he'd last seen Sam. Andrew wanted to believe he was stronger than he was when he met Sam. He took one of the seats across the desk from Sam, so as to not be standing.
"Not a problem."
It seemed he'd also be working as a greeter. That coming on the day he'd essentially greeted Kate was just amusing. Andrew was fine with it. If Sam wanted him to do that then he'd do that too. He'd be busy but he could do that. All in all the only thing about the job he was curious about was what those 'other things' that Sam had mentioned could be.
When Kate spoke up with details on her power he soaked them in. If he was going to be greeting people then he'd have to get used to hearing about other people's mutations. It was an interesting subject in either case so once again Andrew didn't mind too much. Take Kate's mutation for instance. He'd heard a little about it earlier in the kitchen but this was pretty interesting. That was one insanely high body temperature but it made sense for a fire elemental. She'd likely explain more but just that alone was an interesting thought.

It seemed Kate didn’t have a problem going into detail with her abilities after all Sam knew he wouldn’t have had it any other way either. Her mutation, her gift was just that hers and while her mother seemed to know a lot about her daughters mutation it seemed Kate had more details. The fact that she called a being of elemental fire interested him in particular. Nodding his head silently Sam remained quite for the most part trying to compare everything Kate was telling him to what her mother had told him.
Other points of interests he had was the limits she was aware of how hot her body could get for example. Something else that made him lose his straight face during her explanation of her mutation was the fact that the more she explained her powers the more and more she was starting to sound like him when he was her age. Not the same experience of course she came from wealth and a cushy life as far as he could tell, he on the other hand had to fight to survive, he was thinking about her mutation.
The only difference she was fire and he was ice. Something he thought was a little funny. So funny in fact when she paused to let all the information soak in he let out a quick laugh and reached for a pen and wrote down something on a piece of paper to reminded him to keep an eye on Kate’s progress at the mansion.
If she was just like him only the opposite in regard to her upbringing and mutation she would start growing just like him. When he started to age he noticed his abilities grew exponentially to what they were when he was a kid. Things he couldn’t have dreamed up when he was a kid was as simple as waving a finger now. ”Interesting…” Sam said as he closed his eye for a second and then lifted his head from his paper and looked up to Andrew and Kate.
”Andrew one of your jobs is greeter is to think up ideas to help accommodate individuals like Kate here, for example her mother made special request that her room have it’s own thermostat so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable with the temperature of the mansion.” he looked back to Kate and smiled, ”Continue…” he said holding off his individual comments about his and her similarities in mutations till after she was done explaining all she knew.
>>Andrew one of your jobs is greeter is to think up ideas to help accommodate individuals like Kate here, for example her mother made special request that her room have it’s own thermostat so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable with the temperature of the mansion.
Of course her mother had already made outrageous requests. This one may have been more convenient but she really could have lived with a bunch of space heaters in her room instead of having it be heated separately.
>>Continue…
"Gladly." Kate smiled at him and contemplated where to go next, there was so much to tell and not a lot of time to do it in. She hadn't slept in about 24 hours and could feel the tiredness threatening to attack at any moment, "This time I think I am just going to keep going and tell you all the things I can and cannot do. I am sure my mother told you a good number of my restrictions, and I am also sure that she may have over exaggerated some of them. I can assure you that I am more than capable of managing them on my own. I have lived like this for more than most of my life, I know exactly what I have to do to keep myself healthy and well. Even though I can manage myself I am sure you want to know just in case," Kate examined Sam’s face to see if he believed her based on what her mother had told him, “I told you about my unusual body temperature, well with that comes an intolerance to cold. What feels comfortable for the average person feels cold to me. I am actually not comfortable unless it’s about…38 degrees Celsius. I’m not sure what that is in Fahrenheit, but it is bloody hot for most people. I generally have to wear sweaters year round and can’t go outside once it gets below a certain temperatures; Back home that meant staying in from mid October to the end of March at least. That was more for my mother then me though. I am going to try and go outside while I am away from Kirby Hall until I can’t anymore. Once it gets to be around freezing temperatures I will retract inside for the remainder of the winter, only going out when necessary,” Kate choose to pause here and let the first part soak in. There was still so much to tell and she didn’t want to overload them with too much at once, “Next would be food. I eat about 5 or 6 meals a day, usually more. I have an extremely high metabolism and my body burns up food very quickly and I find myself hungry only a few hours after eating. I find that I tend to eat something close to 8 or 9 meals during the winter with the added use of body heat. Feeding food to myself is kind of like feeding a fire I suppose. Hmmm…I think I will save the last one for after I tell you the practical applications of my mutation,” Kate began moving to take off her gloves, "I had a science teacher who thought it best to explore exactly what I could do with my fire ability. It was a summer long experiment of sorts. We discovered that I could create fire," Kate formed a softball sized ball of bright white fire into her now glove-less right hand, "and as long as it is attached to me in such a form I can control it," Kate lifted her left hand and used it to make the fire swirl and move in her hand. Kate almost seemed to be doing the action as absent mindedly as someone could stir a drink, "It is much like moving and controlling a limb really. It's an extension of my own body, therefore, when it is detached I can no longer control it," Kate took a deep breath and blew out the ball like candle on top of a birthday cake, "Most of the summer was spent exploring that part of my power. We only briefly touched base on the other half in the heat of August." Kate paused again to recollect her thoughts, "As I said earlier I would describe myself as being a fire elemental and this part is why that can be true. I have the ability to release a being made of complete fire from my body. I myself have never seen this being, as I pass out as it is released. My teacher however described it as being cold and calculated. He said it seemed to be devoid of my heart and love for things. It didn't even hesitate to burn down one of my favorite places on the Kirby Hall grounds. We actually released it a couple times over the month of August, each time with the purpose of releasing more energy. We found that it loses heat like a star based on how much energy is released, and the more energy it releases the longer I am asleep after it is gone to regain the lose. This energy it produces seems to be my life force; my teacher even speculated that if the flame ever went out completely before I could regain the energy I may die. As you can guess, energy if very important, I think that may be why it builds up like it does. The last restriction I have is a need to release the excess built up energy. If I don’t find time to do this every day, it will release on its own and no one wants that. My fire tends to be at a temperature close to 1500 degrees Celsius and therefore is very destructive when left to its own devices,” Kate took a deep breath as she came to the end of her speech, “Well that is everything. I hope it answered any questions you had, but I would be happy to answer if you have any more.”

Andrew gave a nod. There really wasn't much for him to say or do at the moment. He was watching Sam to learn what he had to do and he was listening to Kate to learn about her. That was about it. So that was what Andrew did. He figured he could likely come up with solutions for things like Kate's temperature sensitivity. Once that information was filed away under 'things I have to do in my job' Andrew focused on Kate and listening to her go into great detail about her powers.
It was a shame that she couldn't control fire that wasn't touching her. Though that made him wonder if she could get the fire back under her control by touching it again. It seemed likely but you never knew with mutations. You'd think that he would be able to force others into keeping their promises like him. Most powers did have an upside and a downside. That would have been an excellent upside to his power. Yet he couldn't. All he could do was be forced into keeping his own promises. Andrew barely avoided having a good old fashioned sulk about it by reminding himself that he was on the job or at least at an interview.
The thought of Kate passing out and releasing a being that was devoid of her emotions seemed more than a little frightening. Especially when taken in conjunction with the fact that she could die if that being was doused. To have something that dangerous and different housed within her must have been quite a burden. Once Kate wrapped up Andrew glanced at Sam. He wondered what his boss would think of it. The man was still one big question-mark to Andrew and he didn't expect that to be cleared up anytime soon.
