The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Basically," Shin started innocuously. "I'm a psycho."
He spent one suddenly-sleepy moment staring at Andrew, then stopped himself, pressing his fist into his bowed forehead with an embarrassed sigh. "Sorry, psychic. Psychic. I'm a psychic. I always get those two words mixed up." They were so similar. Silly Americans, with their 'ohs' and 'icks'. Couldn't they have made their language simpler, and avoided all this psyching out? "I can make triangular barriers with my mind, and use them to make shapes, both complex and simple. I can cut things with them, and," He smiled sleepily. "Because of how my powers work, they've also boosted my mind and my eyes, to help me calculate distances, angles, and crunch numbers. Math."
There. That had been far easier than he'd thought. He could cut people with his mind, and speak like a calculator. Why, that wasn't scary at all. Why had he been worried he'd have overspoken about his power again?
"Wanna see me do something~?" Shin asked dreamily.

For one brief moment the mood in the kitchen turned from casual to creepy. Until Shin corrected his error from 'psycho' to 'psychic'. There was a large difference between the two, though Andrew was willing to bet they weren't mutually exclusive. There were probably plenty of psycho psychics out there. Andrew tried to wrap his mind around the explanation. Shin was a walking calculator that could make sharp triangles? That was as plausible as anything else so Andrew accepted it.
"Sure."
It would likely make a lot more sense if Shin demonstrated. Andrew grasped the concept well enough but he just couldn't picture it.

What to demonstrate with? Shin pondered for a second, then decided. "Alright. This one's something I just figured out a short time ago. So far, I've only shown it to Kealey. Pay close attention." He held up his hand in front of him, training his eyes to the palm. Triangular pupils focused.
Slowly, tiny white triangles appeared, falling over his hand like snow flakes. They collected, formed the basis of the glove shape, and locked in place. Starting from the finger tips, down to two inches past the wrist, the glove formed. Thirty seconds later, there it was. It looked simple. It was boundlessly complex.
Shin looked to Andrew, holding up his hand. "Glove made of razors. I can also make a sword."

Ok now that made sense. Andrew watched as triangles formed around Shin's hand until his hand was covered in a mutation made white glove. That had to be a useful power. It definitely had its upsides at least. He gave a nod.
"Looks useful."
Plus ten times cooler than his own mutation. No, make that fifteen times. Not something he was going to admit to the other man because honestly, he had probably already wondered what use Andrew's powers were. Andrew glanced over at the oven timer. They still had some time left to kill. Apparently letting your social skills get rusty didn't just magically disappear when you were forced into socializing again because Andrew had no clue what to say.

"It has its uses," Shin replied, dismissing the glove. He flexed his fingers for a few seconds, testingly. Yeah. It was definitely an interesting feeling. He'd have to practice picking things up with the glove off the hand, from a distance. That might be cool, too.
Shin glanced up at Andrew, suddenly remembering he was still there. "So. You want to give me a bit more information about yours?" He asked. "Or is there something else to talk about... hmmm..." His voice dropped a bit. "Don't suppose you watch Sailor Moon..."

Andrew's shoulders rose and fell in a shrug.
"Not much else to tell. If I say the words 'I promise' in conjunction with an action I can take or not take then my power takes effect. I get a reminder of the promise in the form of a black tattoo-like band on my left arm. Then I'll feel compelled to complete the promise."
Andrew stopped to take a breath. His long explanation was longer than Shin's.
"If there is a time limit on when the promise needs to be done by then the compulsion will get worse over time until the promise times out. No benefits for keeping promises but the amount of punishment depends on how important the promise. Some just get headaches and others leave scars."
Andrew glanced over at the oven timer again.
"It could even theoretically kill me if I made a promise that was important enough and broke it."
The whole thing was delivered in a dull voice. He didn't even feel that bad of a twinge of fear when he finished. Maybe he was getting used to this. A smile of sorts crossed Andrew's face at Shin's last comment.

"Wow," Shin said, and he meant it. "So, if I asked you to promise me you'd take at least one breath in the next minute, you'd have to take at least one breath? And you'd get a tattoo? I see." He wasn't joking or teasing about the one breath thing. It was just one example that had popped into his mind.
Andrew's power was definitely interesting.
And he hadn't seen Sailor Moon. Well then. He'd just have to explain what he'd been leading towards.
"There's a character in it named Tuxedo Mask. He wears a black tuxedo. My ultimate goal is to make something like that, and wear a tuxedo made with my mind. There's a bit more to my powers than just... cutting and clothes, though. I can also make walls and platforms, and lift things with my triangles... and my eyes? They see the world in a grid. It's a bit like the Matrix... or at least a simple sheet of graphing paper."

"Yup, pretty much."
Shin seemed entirely sincere when he gave that example so Andrew had to guess that he wasn't joking. It was probably the first thing that came to mind. At least it hadn't been something ridiculous like finding and kissing a pet spider. Shin went into an explanation of why he'd mentioned the show and gave a few more details about his power. Jeez that was a useful power. Andrew was spared answering by the buzzing of the timer. The cake and brownies were done.
Andrew stood from his seat at the table and hurried over to the oven where he silenced the infernal buzzing noise and grabbed a pair of oven mitts. In short order both baked goods were out on the counter cooling. They'd come out wonderfully but Andrew hadn't expected any different. Maybe it wasn't the manliest hobby but he was good at it thank you very much. Andrew grabbed the icing and a spatula and offered them to Shin.
"You want to ice the cake?"
That way he could claim he'd helped in some way if Kealey asked.

Andrew asked if Shin wanted to do something, and Shin nodded. Why yes, he would like to help somewhat, so he could say he'd done something tonight. That it was bake, or help bake, goodies for his girlfriend? Why, that was icing on the cake.
Shin moved to the counter, and got to work spreading the icing on the German chocolate cake. "So, how are we going to do this... do you want to take yours while I take mine? I kind of want to surprise her with this tonight." An idea he'd thought of while waiting for the baking to be done. "I'll tell her you did the baking, don't worry." Shin smiled slyly. "I just think she might appreciate a midnight snack."

Hmm. Andrew wondered if him taking the brownies to Kealey tonight was such a good idea. If Kealey were sleeping it would be a lot more forgivable for her boyfriend to wake her up than some guy she'd just pulled into this place not too long ago. But hey, Shin knew her better than he did. Heck, she might not even be asleep yet.
"Sure, but could you do me a favor? Don't tell anyone else I baked this stuff. Kealey is fine, she already pretty much knows about it. I'd just prefer other people didn't."
Two people in the mansion knowing about his baking was plenty by Andrew's book.

"You have my word," Shin replied, raising his arm in mock salute. He lowered it. "Though, you know, this is really a good thing... I know a lot of women who'd kill to have a guy that can bake. It isn't unmanly. Why, my friend Aurum bakes, and he's one of the manliest guys I know!" Shin smiled a 'paid for by the committee to make Aurum look good' smile.
"Anyways," Shin picked up the cake pan. "I'll take this. You can bring her the brownies tomorrow~ Thanks for the cinnamon rolls~"
Smiling brightly, Shin turned and made his way out the door.

Despite what Shin said Andrew was glad he'd agreed to not say anything. Andrew just nodded to Shin as he said what amounted to a goodbye and departed with a smile. Andrew stuck around to do some final clean up. All of the baking implements were washed, dried and put away. The cinnamon rolls found their way onto a platter on the counter with a glass dome over top to keep any wandering bugs away and keep them fresher. Once the kitchen was all tidy Andrew left for his room to get some sleep. Hopefully the students that got up early would enjoy the cinnamon rolls.
