Roxy had a stick. A big stick. Roxy was a very proud German Shepard dog with a big stick.
Sara had pockets. Pockets and a proud dog with a big stick.
Sara and Roxy were out on the outskirts of the mansion grounds enjoying the cooler snap in weather. Summer was just starting it's transition into Fall. So it was warm enough to walk around in light cloths still, but the breeze was cooling things off that norms wouldn't get over heated by just moving around.
Roxy's stick was so long and large that she had to carry one side, and drag the heavier one across the dirt as she trotted and paced a short distance in front of Sara. Tail sweeping the ground behind her heals as she looked for the perfect place to lay down and chew.
Sara's hands were in her pockets as she walked. she was holding a ball that she figured she'd trade Roxy for the stick with in a little bit so the dog didn't get splinters in her teeth. There was currently a lot on Sara's mind. Like the problems that had recently went down with Hunter, and her own ties to the Kabal. Weather she should do what Sam had been asking her to do and join the X-team. Too many things to think about.
How could walking a dog get so complicated?

The day was one of those warm overcast days that was so common in early fall and Amber intended to take full advantage of it. Rarely was she able to go outside safely during the daylight, especially during the summer when it was all bright hot weather. But on overcast days like this one, as long as she remained carefully covered, it was safe for her for as long as a couple of hours. She didn't want to wander too far from the safety of the Mansion, of course, just in case the weather changed suddenly as weather sometimes had a tendency to do, but there was plenty to do around the school and she didn't mind too much. All that mattered was being able to go outside like a normal person. Well, mostly normal at any rate since normal people didn't have to cover every inch of skin when they went outdoors.
Amber went outside wearing a pale green veil and matching pale green robes. She really didn't have much of anything planned outside of enjoying the day and that was just the way she preffered it. Life, since becoming a mutant and joining the Mansion as a student, had become very busy. It was nice to simply have time to herself in order to enjoy life, nice also to stop brooding about some of the less posative parts of her life. Like angry mobs, for example.
Just as the thought passed through Amber's mind, she spotted a familiar figure. A figure much like a human hybrid with some sort of cat, running around with a dog who happened to possess a very large stick. Smiling to herself, Amber realized that she hadn't yet had the opportunity to thank Sara for saving her from the angry citizens of New York a few months ago when she was still learning about her powers and how to control them. She walked closer, standing just inside what she assumed would be the feline's line of sight and waited silently to be noticed.

It was Roxy that noticed the new comer first. and so it was Roxy that dropped the stick. Though only dropping the stick for a few seconds, and barked a hello. Then the stick was picked right back up. Roxy's tail swept the ground and she promptly dragged it over to Amber with the fashion that a dog saying 'I haz a stick I haz a stick' can do. Then in the last second as Roxy got closer to this new impromptu playmate she circled away. 'HA! You can no haz ma stick.'
Roxy's bark had drawn Sara's attention. Had she not been so deep in thought she would have noticed the girl before. "Don't worry. She's friendly." Sara said. "Is there something that I can help you with?"

Amber really did think the dog was adorable in the way that most pets were and she grinned back at it as it barked and, if it had words to speak, she was certain it would have been literally bragging about its stick. Dogs were funny that way and their lives were simple. She couldn't wait until her iguana Hades was large enough to bring for walks nor the reaction a 6 ft reptile was likely to get.
"I'm n-not sure that you'll recognize me," Amber answered the cat lady, "b-because I was kind of a dinosaur the last time we met. B-but you kind of saved me from the police and a bunch of angry people and I wanted to th-thank you." Thanking Sara had come out a little easier than thanking Shin had only a few days prior, thankfully. Maybe she was getting better at the whole gratitude thing.
